The Winter 2006-07 Golfing Thread (GOLF)

markusantonius - 07 Dec 2006 22:35

Hi, guys.

Further to 5 enquiries re: past golfing threads plus 3 requests for me to start a new one, just thought I would get the ball rolling pre-Xmas as the long winter nights draw in. So, now let us talk amongst ourselves about ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING CONCERNING the wonderful pastime of: GOLF.

Herewith I start this in good nature to encourage "friendly banter" devoid of hostility amongst fellow golfers: whether they be Pro's, Category One players, average club players, high handicappers or even weekend hackers! Let's all have a friendly chat here...

EWRobson - 07 Dec 2006 22:51 - 2 of 152

Markus Don't think I want to participate. Still sulking - had to attend our prize winning ceremony: not only did I not win a thing but the wife won 3 trophies; only consolation was the reflected glory onto the coach! I did win a super hamper of goodies at the Club dinner-dance, but not for my dancing - in the raffle!

markusantonius - 07 Dec 2006 22:57 - 3 of 152

Is the Missus' handicap lower or higher than yours, Eric?

EWRobson - 07 Dec 2006 22:58 - 4 of 152

31! I wish she were that age with a figure to match! Also wish that was my handicap; would win a bit then!

markusantonius - 07 Dec 2006 23:25 - 5 of 152

Having participated in a staggering 73 qualifying events[!!!] last Summer, I eventually closed the Season out on 12. Feel very comfortable playing off this handicap, especially in matchplays (as Fliper will testify to!).

fliper - 08 Dec 2006 08:31 - 6 of 152

Eric , you should team up with your wife and win some prizes !

EWRobson - 08 Dec 2006 13:34 - 7 of 152

fliper: we have won several mixed matches and tend to come second in competitions. But hoping to clean up on the Kent mixed circuit next year!

Fundamentalist - 08 Dec 2006 13:57 - 8 of 152

Clubs have gone away here, prob wont see them again till end of Jan/early Feb when the through the night cricket finishes and the weather picks up

markusantonius - 08 Dec 2006 16:46 - 9 of 152

...and when we have our battle at The Wood, Fundy?!

fliper - 08 Dec 2006 17:04 - 10 of 152

Eric , markus has that problem (second) !

markusantonius - 08 Dec 2006 17:12 - 11 of 152

Not the last time we did battle, Fliper (the first time we had a wee wager on it!). Anyway what was the result, I can't recall exactly?

fliper - 08 Dec 2006 17:14 - 12 of 152

mam open 2005 , 2006 I rest my case !

markusantonius - 08 Dec 2006 17:16 - 13 of 152

Oh, those, I see.

EWRobson - 08 Dec 2006 17:23 - 14 of 152

fliper: I definitely advise against winding up Markus like a corkscrew. Better to take it out yourself and give him direct access to the liquid.

fliper - 08 Dec 2006 18:09 - 15 of 152

Yes , but hes on a winner with his t25 trade .

markusantonius - 08 Dec 2006 18:49 - 16 of 152

Actually it's T+20 on the one I think you are refering to, Fliper. But yes, still dans le bleu atm!

EWRobson - 08 Dec 2006 19:28 - 17 of 152

Come on, let us know what it is, even if not a golfing supplier.

markusantonius - 08 Dec 2006 21:11 - 18 of 152

Eric, you have mail, sir.

fliper - 09 Dec 2006 17:12 - 19 of 152

Cold day for golfing , tried a new driver today .

EWRobson - 09 Dec 2006 17:27 - 20 of 152

Lucky to be on the course, fliper. Tenterden closed for the weekend following heavy rain which I had thought was everywhere. Still, can concentrate on food and wine and... - yes Newcastle won today!

markusantonius - 09 Dec 2006 20:33 - 21 of 152

Do you mean one of those up 'n comin square faced drivers, Fliper? Played today (WL Match) and we were fortunate with the weather. However National forecast gives a "Severe Weather Warning" for Sunday.

fliper - 10 Dec 2006 15:18 - 22 of 152

Yes , I got a square deal !

safety - 10 Dec 2006 18:34 - 23 of 152

Played no golf for about 5 days, our course is unplayable which is not the norm but the rain seems to keep falling and has no where to go. Boredom has set in and I find myself bidding for golf clubs etc on Ebay which I don't really need. A lot of which will find there way to the British Heart Foundation Charity Shop.

markusantonius - 10 Dec 2006 18:37 - 24 of 152

Yup, heard that a golf wipeout was forecasted right across the NW coast for today - sounds like the weathermen got it spot on this time!

cynic - 11 Dec 2006 08:42 - 25 of 152

markus ..... let me into the secret; can find thread only via the link you posted me on AOL, but it seems not to appear on MAM page .... am i being unusually senile? ..... Meanwhile, golf continues on proper greens on my little course based in the middle of a housing estate .... similarly on my more local course where i have a W/L match this morning ..... P3 W2 H1 ..... 3 more to play; winner of each flight goes to k/o stages.

safety - 11 Dec 2006 10:22 - 26 of 152

cynic,
You are very lucky then, where do you play ?

markusantonius - 11 Dec 2006 12:32 - 27 of 152

Tizup there on my screen, Cynic! So what more can I say, sir? :o)

fliper - 11 Dec 2006 15:58 - 28 of 152

Played 14 sat and 18 sun , a little wet and cold .

cynic - 11 Dec 2006 16:44 - 29 of 152

it's all appeared now ..... clearly rubbed the magic wick!! ..... now P4 W3 H1 ..... crunch match is on 20th against other strong contender in the flight who plays off 8; as he has already halved 2 matches, a half with him will make me no worse than level with one to play in January.

safety ..... my local course is Temple, a picturesque and typically "English" course between Maidenhead and Henley ..... my other course is at the posh end of the spectrum, even if they allow tossers such as myself to become members

EWRobson - 11 Dec 2006 17:00 - 30 of 152

cynic and I thought Temple was posh given it was the home club of Henry Cotton. Played there in the summer in a charity day: didn't win but won a 150 voucher in the raffle and Mary got a nice pair of new specs. Challenging course: not that long but shots to green are generally very tight. Hate to think what your other course might be!

cynic - 11 Dec 2006 17:50 - 31 of 152

You are right that Temple is quite short but tricky ..... personally, i think it is the greens themselves that are difficult to read ..... anyway, having been until quite recently a "dead men's shoes" club, it has had a recent influx of younger members who play respectably or better, and thank goodness for that ...... subs are still very reasonable at around 1000 (i think!), and nor is the course over-run by societies ...... why don't you join?

EWRobson - 11 Dec 2006 18:58 - 32 of 152

cynic Would if I wasn't too far way: down in nether Kent/East Sussex borders. Not a bad choice for a moneyAM event; nobble the longer hitters like fliper and even test the short game of markus.

cynic - 11 Dec 2006 19:13 - 33 of 152

think i would tend to go for one of Harry Colt's courses for that

markusantonius - 12 Dec 2006 01:07 - 34 of 152

Eric, great players can adapt & improvise accordingly - it's a gift only the chosen few are born with.

safety - 12 Dec 2006 09:22 - 35 of 152

Cynic,
Is it The Temple Golf Club or Temple Artisans Golf Club.

cynic - 12 Dec 2006 09:26 - 36 of 152

It's one and the same ..... Temple is one of the few remaining clubs with an Artisan section

markusantonius - 12 Dec 2006 12:20 - 37 of 152

May have a break from golf now, I think? A tad too cold - even for me!

cynic - 12 Dec 2006 12:22 - 38 of 152

don't be such a wuss! ...... have already "inherited" soul* in his wheelchair so don't need another!

EWRobson - 12 Dec 2006 13:27 - 39 of 152

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Think I'll have a rest first though!

cynic - 12 Dec 2006 13:33 - 40 of 152

well tough couple of days ahead for me ...... golf midday tomorrow at "the course within the housing estate" and a golf memorial day for a now-deceased great pal of mine at the Knole (Sevenoaks) on Thursday ..... God bless mobile phones and connections to the office network from my home PC!

fliper - 12 Dec 2006 16:20 - 41 of 152

It would take some one special to get me on the course midweek in these conditions , ( low handicap attractive female )

cynic - 12 Dec 2006 16:21 - 42 of 152

and of course she would actually want to play with you ..... all in all, an unlikely combination

fliper - 12 Dec 2006 16:24 - 43 of 152

Yes , more chance of goo hitting 18p by xmas !

cynic - 12 Dec 2006 16:43 - 44 of 152

on the other hand, when i was last in S'pore, played with a young lady with looks and talent and conversational skills with humour ....... enjoyed being well thrashed!

fliper - 12 Dec 2006 16:46 - 45 of 152

Yes but , what about the golf !

cynic - 12 Dec 2006 18:57 - 46 of 152

totally irrelevant .... lol!

markusantonius - 14 Dec 2006 13:52 - 47 of 152

Steady on, chaps!

markusantonius - 16 Dec 2006 00:10 - 48 of 152

_

markusantonius - 19 Dec 2006 00:14 - 49 of 152

Still enjoying a total break from GOLF this weekend, myself.

Anyone else planning to hack over Yuletide, at all?

cynic - 19 Dec 2006 06:04 - 50 of 152

Playing tomorrow in key WL match, but fear the worst as am certainly not on form at the mo ..... must concentrate harder! ...... Thursday - cycling down to Bath with No 2 son for Christmas break! .... others have more sense and coming by car on Friday! ...... so no golf after tomorrow until NY Eve ..... unles i squeeze in a few holes or some practice between 27 and 31

fliper - 19 Dec 2006 17:16 - 51 of 152

Markus, may be up for a game or two over xmas break .

EWRobson - 20 Dec 2006 17:30 - 52 of 152

Winter league quarter final on Monday, 4BBB. Won 2&1 with better ball 49 points. I thought afterwards it was a bit unfair! Our opponents off 6 and 10 were bb one under gross so they didn't really have a chance! They won 4 holes, 3 with birdies. Semi final opponents off 12 and 15 so they have more of a chance! And they are talking about a full handicap difference (rather than 3/4) in January! Would vote against it as you need to give them some hope!

Eric

fliper - 21 Dec 2006 18:00 - 53 of 152

Not looking good for the weekend (fog) well i will be able to hit it out of sight !

markusantonius - 22 Dec 2006 01:11 - 54 of 152

You do anyway, Fliper!

OK, I'll be away over Yuletide. So herewith The Shark would like to wish everyone a very merry Xmas and a prosperous New Year!

All the best,

M.

Fundamentalist - 22 Dec 2006 11:29 - 55 of 152

To all the golfers, merry xmas and heres looking forward to 2007

EWRobson - 22 Dec 2006 19:57 - 56 of 152

Yeah, merry Christmas all and a prosperous New Year. Have a look at my post on ASOS (ASC) thread and give your reaction please to my proposed challenge - no, not golf, but CFDs.

Eric

fliper - 24 Dec 2006 14:32 - 57 of 152

Happy xmas to all , and good luck on the golf course in 2007 . (year of the shark ?)

markusantonius - 02 Jan 2007 17:01 - 58 of 152

Yup, I actually heard that from other peeps, as well, Fliper. :o)

Anyway to ALL: Let "bygones be bygones... and a clean slate" for 2007: -

HAPPY NEW YEAR to EVERYONE + HEALTH, HARMONY, HAPPINESS and PROSPERITY to ALL POSTERS!

EWRobson - 02 Jan 2007 20:18 - 59 of 152

Well done, markus. And so say all of us, and so say ...............

fliper - 03 Jan 2007 12:27 - 60 of 152

Markus , Horsley closed due to the wet weather .

EWRobson - 03 Jan 2007 12:46 - 61 of 152

A splendid start to the new year, fliper! We have a cross-country texas scramble to mark the occasion ending up with an 870 yard par 8! My partners didn't turn up so I played with three attractive lady members! Quite a respectable nett 28.4 (9 holes). Not amongst the prizes but the highlights were the kisses on the final green! Life in the old dog yet.

fliper - 03 Jan 2007 12:53 - 62 of 152

Lucky you eric , sounds like a good comp .

markusantonius - 03 Jan 2007 12:56 - 63 of 152

...a Category 5 comp.?

fliper - 03 Jan 2007 13:01 - 64 of 152

Sounds like the ladies were cat 1 !

EWRobson - 03 Jan 2007 13:02 - 65 of 152

Unfortunately, with a group behind, we couldn't dally enroute. Also two of the girls partners waiting at the final green who were mortified that we had beaten their score. Not the scoring I had in mind, though!

markusantonius - 03 Jan 2007 13:05 - 66 of 152

You sound just like a dirty ol' man, Eric!

fliper - 03 Jan 2007 13:09 - 67 of 152

Markus ,what did you say in post 58 !

markusantonius - 03 Jan 2007 13:25 - 68 of 152

"...HAPPY NEW YEAR to EVERYONE + HEALTH, HARMONY, HAPPINESS and PROSPERITY to ALL POSTERS!"

(Eric knows that Sharks jest a lot in the month of January!)

fliper - 03 Jan 2007 13:44 - 69 of 152

ONLY JANUARY !

EWRobson - 03 Jan 2007 17:04 - 70 of 152

Could just be younger than markus though worn from lifestyle + golf frustration.

cynic - 03 Jan 2007 17:41 - 71 of 152

but a great day for golf today! ....... mild, only moderatley damp underfoot, and a toughish wind ..... God bless mobile phones when playing midweek!

markusantonius - 03 Jan 2007 19:33 - 72 of 152

S'OK for some, Cynic - very wet 'n windy over here atm!

markusantonius - 04 Jan 2007 13:08 - 73 of 152

Cynic, Mobile phones are banned bigtime where I play pending severe reprimands for purportraitors! Thought this was fast becoming the norm these days especially in the clubhouse?

cynic - 04 Jan 2007 13:50 - 74 of 152

speaking on them is one thing, and i agree about 97% of the time ..... However, messages are silent .... as is my ring tone!

markusantonius - 04 Jan 2007 14:05 - 75 of 152

But still an unwelcomed distraction for some players, Cynic. On course: for emergencies only, IMHO.

cynic - 04 Jan 2007 14:08 - 76 of 152

only have with me when playing typical (un)friendly - e.g. midweek ..... and as phone does not ring, no distraction for others.

fliper - 04 Jan 2007 16:06 - 77 of 152

Its ok when you have a text telling you, your shares have just hit a new high .

cynic - 04 Jan 2007 16:13 - 78 of 152

unless you scream "Yippee!! just as opponent is taking 5' putt for the match!

fliper - 04 Jan 2007 16:15 - 79 of 152

On the putting , it gets easier after your 3rd putt !

bhunt1910 - 04 Jan 2007 16:16 - 80 of 152

Not a golfer myself - but spotted this on another site - and purely by chance spotted this thread. I believe the offer to be genuine - although I have not tried it out myself

18 holes of Golf at a choice of 30 top clubs only 3.95 or less delivered

Go to www.buyagift.co.uk and search golf, buy the "round of golf for one" for 7.50 and use discount code 953195 to get 5 off which makes it 3.95 with shipping.

This seems to be a pretty good deal to me. Go through quidco to get another 0.47 off, making it an amazing 3.47 for an 18 hole round of golf. Only conditions are after 1pm on weekdays.

And you can play at some great courses around the uk, voucher is valid for 10 months from date of purchase.

Hope some of you can enjoy this.

Baza

fliper - 04 Jan 2007 16:27 - 81 of 152

Yes , this looks great , only down side is its geared towards london area .

cynic - 04 Jan 2007 16:57 - 82 of 152

BB&O run a similar scheme, but i suspect other regions do too ..... try going to EGU website .... there may be some indications there

markusantonius - 07 Jan 2007 12:32 - 83 of 152

Only played once during the past 4 weeks. Anyone else braving the winter fairways atm?

cynic - 07 Jan 2007 17:36 - 84 of 152

moi! .... played in a stableford yesterday and got drowned, and again today when against all odds the weather was fine and warm ... shall be having a lesson on Tuesday and, all being well, shall be playing with my doc friend on Wednesday ..... Sunday will see the usual gathering on the course of our small school.

EWRobson - 08 Jan 2007 12:48 - 85 of 152

Had the captain's drive in yesterday preceded by Texas Scramble. Interesting format: 5 players, no constaints on how many drives but each player had to play 3 second shots (not his own drive). 5 vets but finished level par less one-eighth of total handicaps which was 11.5. Came 5th out of 22 which was good enough for a bottle of bubbly: well only 4 prizes but played with captain who wanted to present a prize to himself! Past captains had to putt out their year with a guttie ball and ancient hickory putter. Worst score had to buy the drinks: yours truly down in two from 10 yards of course so then proceded to take advantage of the free Winter Pims. Course only just playable but the rule was to use green mats 'through the green' which made a lot of sense.

Any news on the MoneyAM challenge? I hope its going to happen!

fliper - 10 Jan 2007 16:17 - 86 of 152

Most courses close due to wet ground , has anybody played at park hill at seagrave leic ? and is it worth a visit .

cynic - 10 Jan 2007 16:22 - 87 of 152

both my "posh" n "mortals" clubs are open and playing on proper greens ...... played (shit) this morning at "posh" and was amazed how dry the course wsa underfoot, n greens in very good order ...... bad fusarium in the spring is the great fear

fliper - 10 Jan 2007 16:33 - 88 of 152

Eric , not sure when bob c is going to start a new thread . I hope its on the investers thread . Cynic , you are lucky to get a game in this weather .

IanT(MoneyAM) - 10 Jan 2007 16:35 - 89 of 152

fliper/Eric,

News about this year will follow hopefully at some point next week.

Ian

cynic - 10 Jan 2007 17:20 - 90 of 152

just the one sharp 5 min shower .... other than that, totally dry and even sunny towards the end ...... Sunday was also dry

EWRobson - 10 Jan 2007 17:52 - 91 of 152

Ian: Many thanks for seeking to sort this out.

Eric

markusantonius - 10 Jan 2007 22:41 - 92 of 152

Midway through the Badminton Season so my clubs are hybernating atm. Hardly played golf at all < 7 weeks. BTW Shark is coming out of retirement tomorrow (part time job). Well, times are hard these days and, having weighed in at a disgraceful 14.7 stone on 1st. of Jan., was in serious danger of degenerating into a fat, old slob devoid of self respect! :o(

fliper - 11 Jan 2007 08:57 - 93 of 152

Get fit for the start of the season ! but will hit the driving range in march .

EWRobson - 11 Jan 2007 13:19 - 94 of 152

It takes the old stager(s) to give an example with correct weight for age. Finding that once a week golf is fine - playing as well as at any time last year. Mind. these little green mats help - and save the course.

cynic - 11 Jan 2007 13:54 - 95 of 152

weight for height is more accurate ...... 5'10" should be 12 stone from memory ..... only time i came across "little green matts" was playing on a dinky semi-shale course in Hatta (mountains in Dubai) where they were to protect your club!

safety - 11 Jan 2007 20:25 - 96 of 152

Was in Kuwait for 3 years and played off "little green mats" which you carried around the course with you, it wasn't to bad. Was a member at the Kuwait Oil Company Golf Club, you could thrash around all day and not lose your ball, (no grass). After playing in the desert for 3years I find I am brilliant out of "Bunkers"

markusantonius - 15 Jan 2007 09:23 - 97 of 152

Anyone play over the weekend? Many courses are closed over here atm - not played for ages myself. :o(

cynic - 15 Jan 2007 09:39 - 98 of 152

of course! ..... proper tees; proper greens

markusantonius - 15 Jan 2007 10:20 - 99 of 152

Lucky you, sir!

cynic - 15 Jan 2007 10:36 - 100 of 152

glorious golfing weather yesterday too ...... several lessons and lots of practice in store, time permitting, over the next 2/3 months, so that with luck (forlorn hope!) my game will show marked improvement over the balance of the year ...... certainly last year's concentration on shots around the green has certainly paid off, though it took a long time to start paying divis.

markusantonius - 15 Jan 2007 10:39 - 101 of 152

Oooh, you sound almost as serious and as determined as Young Eric, Cynic! What's your handicap target by Season end, may one enquire?

cynic - 15 Jan 2007 11:09 - 102 of 152

i have always wanted to get down to single figures (currently 13) ...... i reckon i have the shots but reckon i tend to lose confidence in my swing and/or concentration (arsehole!) ..... to reduce to 12 or even 11 (despite the advanced years!) really should be a realistic target for 2007 ..... however, i want to be able to play consistently to or around any new h'cap, not just get there by a single fluke round.

putting can always be improved ..... my m8 (sharp 6), consistently holes from 10' and less .... again, a lot of this is self-belief built by practice (and proper technique) ..... practice!

fliper - 17 Jan 2007 17:21 - 103 of 152

With snow focast for next week , it could be time to dig out a few red balls .

markusantonius - 24 Jan 2007 00:58 - 104 of 152

Yup, snowing outside my window right now, as I write, Fliper! So my continued absence from the fairways continues, at least for a little while longer. :o(

Eric, got your message (we are in agreement, sir).

fliper - 24 Jan 2007 13:15 - 105 of 152

Roll on summer , If i had the money i would live in aus for 5 months .

markusantonius - 24 Jan 2007 13:45 - 106 of 152

Just like my bro. - cannot blame anyone for considering such a proposition! :o)

EWRobson - 24 Jan 2007 14:45 - 107 of 152

Please read my post on Bob Colby's new column. I thought it right to query the format but I suspect that it should be left at that rather than applying further pressure.

Eric

fliper - 24 Jan 2007 14:58 - 108 of 152

Good post eric .

markusantonius - 24 Jan 2007 18:19 - 109 of 152

Jus read it, Eric. Very well expressed viewpoint, sir. Although tend to think the powers that be may have a hidden agenda this year? Anyway it's still snowing over here in the East Mids. with all courses closed. Have a game planned for Sunday (my first in ages!), if it clears up in time?

cynic - 24 Jan 2007 19:27 - 110 of 152

last of my winter league group matches on friday ..... a half will prob do to get me play off but would obviously much rather win ... at least still on proper tees and greens (mortals course!)

EWRobson - 24 Jan 2007 20:03 - 111 of 152

We are also generally in play down in Kent. Saturday was only 8 holes open so put off knock out 4BBB semi-final due for Sunday until this Sunday. Of course, there was a drying wind and all the holes were open on Sunday. Not bad for a couple of rather old vets to be in the semi-final anyway! Eric

fliper - 25 Jan 2007 17:39 - 112 of 152

Looking like no golf this weekend .

cynic - 25 Jan 2007 17:47 - 113 of 152

you gone soft fliper?
for my sins i have last round of winter league flights tomorrow.
half will prob suffice, but would rather win to get into knock-out stages

markusantonius - 25 Jan 2007 17:54 - 114 of 152

Soft! Doubt it, Cynic - coz the ground surface over here is rock solid atm with frozen snow everywhere! :o(

fliper - 25 Jan 2007 17:56 - 115 of 152

fliper - 03 Feb 2007 18:06 - 119 of 152

It was like a spring day , what weather for feb . Eric it must be warm down there in kent ?

EWRobson - 04 Feb 2007 13:19 - 120 of 152

Bloody cold today, Fliper! Super yesterday though and found some decent shots. Went down in the semi-final of the 4bbb last Sunday - opponents two under gross at the turn with bb 28 points; reckon though its better to lose to opponents paying really well than badly. Eric

fliper - 05 Feb 2007 14:45 - 121 of 152

Eric, you will get this kind of score in winter on a short course. Roll on summer , back tees and courses playing long .

Kivver - 05 Feb 2007 14:52 - 122 of 152

Eric , have you got snow down there in kent ? no golf this weekend i think .

EWRobson - 09 Feb 2007 17:45 - 127 of 152

Hi Fliper. Had a layer yesterday but disappeared by the end of the day. A bit raw and soggy so will wait until Monday before playing in the Vets Stableford - really because of the steak pie afterwards! By the way, did the Markus match happen? - perhaps so, because he has been very apparent by his absence and you being the modest man that you are....

cynic - 09 Feb 2007 17:49 - 128 of 152

I am afarid Markus has been shot into Outer Space by the management here .... it seems he badly overstepped the mark in some respect (or lack of it as the case may be!)

fliper - 09 Feb 2007 17:58 - 129 of 152

Dont mention the M word ! , heavy snow in the east midlands , I may be stuck in doors all weekend .

cynic - 10 Feb 2007 09:01 - 130 of 152

snow all gone here but piddling with rain .... am sure i shall venture onto the course tomorrow with a good turnout of the foolhardies

fliper - 11 Feb 2007 15:22 - 131 of 152

Snow all gone , 18 holes in sunshine , great .

cynic - 11 Feb 2007 17:00 - 132 of 152

EWRobson - 05 Mar 2007 23:06 - 136 of 152

I have played WH, but can't remember where it is, think it's a good test of golf if I recall.

fliper - 12 Mar 2007 13:36 - 141 of 152

Thanks pth , its in litchfield just off the a38 so they tell me .

Fundamentalist - 12 Mar 2007 16:54 - 142 of 152

Fliper

yes its in lichfield, a few years since i played but if memory serves me right its a decent track and was in wgreat condition hen we played it. Not a long course, more of a thinkers course with plenty of gorse and heather, key is keeping it in play off the tee

fliper - 15 Mar 2007 16:53 - 143 of 152

Had a game at horsley with an old friend today . The course is very good for the time of year , the greens were quick . I finish a/s after being 2 down with 4 to play .

EWRobson - 15 Mar 2007 22:26 - 144 of 152

That wouldn't be he has not to be mentioned would it? Bless his cotton socks!

fliper - 16 Mar 2007 17:29 - 145 of 152

1st prize eric .

fliper - 20 Mar 2007 08:48 - 146 of 152

The weathers gone back into winter , just when it was getting better . Look on the bright side BST starts sunday .

EWRobson - 02 Apr 2007 21:31 - 147 of 152

Beautiful out on the course today with 18 degrees and short sleeves. First Vets league match - chipped in on the first for a birdie, winning 7 and 5 without losing a hole. Follows up a knock-out win yesterday on 19th. Good to have somewhere I can boast about it!

Eric

cynic - 03 Apr 2007 08:07 - 148 of 152

You can even run us through it shot by shot without interruption!

For myself, an inter-club match this afternoon and a seriously competitive friendly off the very back tees tees on Thursday vs my m8 (only have one - boo hoo!) who is a strong 5 h'cap

EWRobson - 03 Apr 2007 14:21 - 149 of 152

Ladies day is Tuesday - once again weather has turned cold. Mary left complaining that they always get the worst of the weather. Gives the lie to the claim that God is female. Next week, though, they should do better as it is a joint ladies and vets event on Tuesday so we can make things hot for them.

fliper - 05 Apr 2007 17:23 - 150 of 152

Have got 4 game in 4 days , and good weather forcast .

cynic - 06 Apr 2007 17:09 - 151 of 152

plyed yesterday and today, then break tomorrow (lunch on oysters and some intersting Austrian white wine with my my mother), followed by golf Sunday and Monday ... then back to the office for a break!

ptholden - 06 Apr 2007 19:32 - 152 of 152

Hi Eric

Just starting to get back into the 'swing' once more. Quite difficult at the moment, not least because I'm knackered after 15 holes. Driving the ball miles, but irons and the short game struggling after such a long lay off. Longcliffe is looking great this year already. Big rumpus last year over the state of the course, resulting in a new Captain of Greens and work parties tidying up the areas the Green's Staff don't have time for. First comp on Monday followed by a team match on the 12th and first medal a week on Saturday.
