Summer golf (GOLF)

fliper - 10 Apr 2007 11:44

Now we are into the new season , golf tales and course ratings is the order of play .

ptholden - 10 Apr 2007 11:47 - 2 of 69

You wouldn't like to put that in English would you Fliper?

cynic - 10 Apr 2007 12:06 - 3 of 69

ok fliper ... talk us though your Easter golfing prowess hot by shot .... lol!

fliper - 10 Apr 2007 12:13 - 4 of 69

Looking foward to four games of golf over easter . I came down with flu , only one round played .

cynic - 10 Apr 2007 12:18 - 5 of 69

was that after the round of golf?
if so was it really that awful that repetition of the pain did not bear thinking about?

fliper - 10 Apr 2007 12:34 - 6 of 69

Refer to my comment on umn thread , dry throut .

cynic - 10 Apr 2007 12:57 - 7 of 69

replied! ..... stop trying to cadge on sympathy vote ..... lol!

ptholden - 10 Apr 2007 12:58 - 8 of 69

Had my best ever driving day off the tee at Longcliffe yesterday. Of 15 drives 14 hit the fairway or as close to make no difference, probably averaged 250 yards, some of which were into a stiff wind. Mind you couldn't hit an iron to save my life, so quite disappointing overall. One day it will all come together at the same time :S

fliper - 10 Apr 2007 17:22 - 9 of 69

I am booked in at longcliffe on june 15th

ptholden - 10 Apr 2007 17:33 - 10 of 69

Is that a comp Fliper or just a day out?

cynic - 10 Apr 2007 17:34 - 11 of 69

looks a pretty course ..... primarily parkland i take it with plenty of mature trees ..... shall play hookey tomorrow afternoon and hope to continue Monday's form .... fat chance!

ptholden - 10 Apr 2007 17:47 - 12 of 69

LCGC is supposedly one of the toughest if not the toughest in Leicestershire Cynic. Well worth a round if you ever have the opportunity, but don't expect a good score! Early in the year yet, but signs are that the greens will be very fast. Actually, getting to the greens can be a bit traumatic and I have never regarded any one hole as a Birdie opportunity. An awful lot of tidying up has been undertaken over the winter and the course looks very tidy. Once the rough starts to grow again and the fairways firm up after all the rain, the difficulty will increase exponentially. A friend of mine who plays off 7 has yet to record anything like a decent score after numerous attempts. If you want to have a round anytime PM and I'll book you in as a guest.

pth

fliper - 10 Apr 2007 17:50 - 13 of 69

open am-am on the 15th

cynic - 10 Apr 2007 18:00 - 14 of 69

PTH .... may take you up on that ... better make sure it's dark so i can't be seen hacking up their turf! ..... looks something like a Harry Colt course but in parkland rather than heath .... if so, and judging by its shortish length, almost certainly very subtle and not to be beaten to death ..... East Course at "posh" club is rather like that, with only one par 5

G D Potts - 10 Apr 2007 19:22 - 15 of 69

just played today at bendinat in Mallorca - in the rain, what a joke. Hopefully the weather improves soon.

fliper - 11 Apr 2007 12:41 - 16 of 69

G D Potts - 11 Apr 2007 13:03 - 17 of 69

G D Potts - 11 Apr 2007 16:38 - 19 of 69

where abouts? we stay in Andratx/Camp de Mar during the summer but am staying with friends in the port at the moment. Have rarely visited anywhere on the other side of the island. Are you familiar with those courses then?

fliper - 13 Apr 2007 16:51 - 21 of 69

Good forcast for the weekend , two games booked .

cynic - 13 Apr 2007 16:57 - 22 of 69

silly but true .... played really well on Wednesday afternoon but could not hole a short putt to save my life ..... decided to have a putting lesson and asked pro to check, inter alia, if the grip was on straight ..... yes, was the answer but the shaft is bent so face now somewhat shut (unlike mine)! .... have sent it away for a new shaft and bought new in the interim ..... have practiced with it for an hour or two, so fingers crossed for tomorrow's medal .... will prob now putt well and carve every drive instead!

fliper - 16 Apr 2007 19:20 - 23 of 69

Hit the ball well sat but finished 4 down . sun finished 3 over handicap . 0.1 back for each round .

Dave1980 - 17 Apr 2007 08:32 - 24 of 69

cynic - 20 Apr 2007 16:11 - 26 of 69

flip .... when r we going to golf? ..... played first round of Gruesomes (Mixed 4somes) the other day .... haven't played with a woman in that respect for many a long year! .... really good n tight game ..... 3 up after 12 and then lost 4 on the trot but sneaked back last 2 holes inc birdie at the last ..... phew!

no golf for me this w/e ...... picking up the pieces of Number Two Son on Sunday as he is in London Marathon .... silly bugger!

Stan - 20 Apr 2007 16:33 - 27 of 69

G D Potts - 08 May 2007 18:16 - 34 of 69

Where is alcanada fliper? Am going out this summer so would be good to know.
If you're going out again try and play in Camp De Mar, 30 mins from Palma, great course and fantastic views too.

fliper - 09 May 2007 12:53 - 35 of 69

North east of the island , check website (post 20 )

Dave1980 - 15 May 2007 12:35 - 36 of 69

Fliper,

I played East Sussex a couple of years ago, two great courses although a lot to play them both on the same day!

May still have the course guides knocking around if you are interested?

fliper - 15 May 2007 12:46 - 37 of 69

Thanks Dave , yes course guides would help as i have 4 rounds there in july .

Dave1980 - 22 May 2007 08:38 - 38 of 69

Fliper, do you want to email me you address and i'll dig them out and send them on?

fliper - 01 Jun 2007 09:08 - 39 of 69

Thanks dave .

fliper - 08 Jun 2007 18:41 - 40 of 69

Lots of golf coming up , hope the weather holds up !

cynic - 08 Jun 2007 21:03 - 41 of 69

"peoples' course" club championship tomorrow .... 36 holes medal ..... hope i play at least well enough to get my h'cap down a bit ...... shortish course but tricky, with hayfield rough

ptholden - 08 Jun 2007 21:32 - 42 of 69

Off to North Berwick on Monday until Friday, can't remember all the courses, but the West Course and Gullen 3 are part of the programme. Hope it isn't as windy as last year, double bent flag sticks, golf bags blowing across fairways like tumbleweed.

cynic - 08 Jun 2007 21:46 - 43 of 69

try Gullane! .... have a great time; it's a lovely part of the country

ptholden - 08 Jun 2007 21:52 - 44 of 69

That's the badger, Gullane 3. Did Gullane 2 last year so will be interested to note the differences or otherwise. Had a great time last year, so looking forward to it again; although 6 or 7 rounds in 4 and a half days will take its toll, followed by a Pairs comp at the home course on Saturday!

fliper - 11 Jun 2007 16:53 - 45 of 69

Whittington heath and longcliffe this week . Putter was red hot at the weekend , 30 putts sat and 24 sun .

fliper - 13 Jun 2007 08:12 - 46 of 69

On the tee late afternoon , weather forcast looks bad , i think i am going to get wet. Pth , whats longcliffe playing like ?

fliper - 14 Jun 2007 12:09 - 47 of 69

wet again , dry the clubs to get wet friday . Dont you just love the british summer !

fliper - 15 Jun 2007 08:44 - 48 of 69

Played at whittington heath , very good course and greens . I will be returning to this course next year .

ptholden - 15 Jun 2007 16:10 - 49 of 69

Fliper, been away (see posts above!!).
Probably a bit late now, but Longcliffe has been coming on very nicely, a lot of work has been put in during the Spring and the course is set up extremely well. Greens are not at their fastest yet and probably won't be until late Summer, but in good nick and running true.
Hope you enjoyed your round, but as I post, heck of a thunderstorm, but with any luck you will have completed your round by now?

fliper - 15 Jun 2007 16:36 - 50 of 69

Comp was called off this morning before a ball was hit .

Dave1980 - 22 Jun 2007 12:50 - 51 of 69

Fliper,

Your course guides (East Sussex) are in the post today!

Sorry for the delay

fliper - 22 Jun 2007 13:46 - 52 of 69

Thanks dave .

fliper - 27 Jun 2007 12:26 - 54 of 69

Rain again ?

fliper - 15 Jul 2007 19:13 - 55 of 69

Played 4 rounds at east sussex national . What a great pair of courses there . Testing holes with good and quick greens . If your looking for a good meal out , try Phish in uckfield .

fliper - 24 Jul 2007 13:59 - 56 of 69

Anybody been out golfing without getting wet ?

cynic - 24 Jul 2007 14:00 - 57 of 69

certainly did on Sunday

fliper - 24 Jul 2007 14:10 - 58 of 69

Played in the rain on sunday , and due to play wed and fri , both forcasts are for rain . What a great summer !

cynic - 24 Jul 2007 14:27 - 59 of 69

bit humid Sunday, but not a drop of rain.
have a Geriatrics Cup round to play tomorrow morning ...... hope rain holds off until lunchtime, but seemingly we have a flood warning for tomorrow evening

fliper - 28 Aug 2007 15:26 - 60 of 69

What a great summer ! but dont worry , autumn is just round the corner . Lots of dry days to come ? Playing at Belton park soon .

G D Potts - 29 Aug 2007 13:27 - 61 of 69

Managed to birdie the 18th at Carnoustie a few weeks ago while playing in Scotland. I didnt fair to well on quite a few of the other holes, not really a links player, the wind destroys my shots.

fliper - 29 Aug 2007 18:41 - 62 of 69

Well done on the 18th ,

fliper - 11 Nov 2007 17:48 - 63 of 69

Back from La-manga , last bit of sunshine for me this year . The greens there must have been between 11 and 13 on the s/m , 3 putted lots of times but a good weeks golf .

cynic - 11 Nov 2007 18:03 - 64 of 69

my tragedy is staying 4/5 days just 150 yards from 1st at Creek (Dubai) and not even having time to hit a few practice shots!

fliper - 12 Nov 2007 17:07 - 65 of 69

A lot warmer there cynic ? is Dubia still like a building site !

cynic - 12 Nov 2007 17:14 - 66 of 69

not quite as bad as it was, though staying down at The Creek means you are only 10/15 minutes from the airport (though no aircraft noise) and all the traffic probs avoided ...... as usual in Dubai, the hotel and its amenities and staff are great; and so is the golf course i believe

when i go there again in a few weeks (no chance of golf yet again!), i shall have to stay at the Jumeirah end, so shall report back

G D Potts - 12 Nov 2007 17:33 - 67 of 69

I played night golf while in Dubai last time - an entire flood lit course, with no grass in between tee box and green. A very entertaining course.

cynic - 12 Nov 2007 19:14 - 68 of 69

i know the one .... it's by or on the race course ..... i played there several years ago and forgot my glasses so had all sorts of interesting probs

fliper - 05 Dec 2007 17:40 - 69 of 69

Finished the season 0.1 higher than the start , i will have more time to play next year .
