IMHO when you look at the history of JRVS it is riddled with failure and bad-events.
It's what I'd class as a "broken brand" - that's when almost no-one has anything good to say. Indeed I doubt I'd trust them to build a shed, however unlikely that might be.
It might be a "revovery play" but there needs to some "step-change" to achieve this - usually a radical change at the top - I suspect the ChExec is too good at being a Politician: - making the best out of a bad situation - but whilst this may suit the cut and thrust of Parliament, it's no use when your project is running late or the roof has started to leak.
I used to hold this stock when it was 1 ( not sure of any CONsolidations etc) and met SN in London - Words but no Actions, IMHO.
FWIW "Bargepoles", are You a long-term holder, or only recently (20p) for "recovery" . . . ?

ahoj - 18 Jan 2008 13:28 - 4 of 142

long term holder.. Assets worth a couple of times more than the market cap IMO.
They need a new contract to prove that they are in business.

From a tip sheet

This just posted on ADVFN

"Jarvis looks a sitting duck

Shares in Jarvis, the long-troubled rail contractor, briefly perked up this week. The prompt was the news that a 6.5 million tax rebate had been agreed with HM Revenue and Customs and would be paid by the end of this month. When a business is valued in the market at just 30 million, a 6.5 million cash boost counts for a lot.

Until I ran the numbers, I hadnt realised that Jarvis was in fact so lowly valued. It still boasts 270 million or so of turnover and has a thriving business supplying Network Rail for which the prospects have never looked better. True, it has been a walking basket case for the past four years ever since running up a combined 600 million of losses in 2003/4 and 2004/5 and has had to do deals with its bankers and sell off a host of assets to survive. But survive it has. It will not make money this year (to the end of March) because of problems in its rail plant business, but it should do in 2008/9. That, of course, is assuming that it is still an independent company.

I have a contact in the market who is convinced Jarvis will be taken over once the current-year figures are in and the outlook for the plant business can be better assessed. I think there is a very good chance he is right.

Jarvis shares fell from 80p to 20p in a couple of days in November when the company notified the market that various problems associated with the plant business would cost it 8 million largely in the second half of the year. There had been changes in utilisation patterns and a shift towards overhead line maintenance rather than track work, which had affected the demand for on-track machines. On the transport side, a client had elected to buy wagons rather than hire them.

But there has been a lot of good news too. In September, Jarvis made the cut when Network Rail announced the winners of its 6 to 4 competition which reduced the number of suppliers to its future track renewals programme to just four. As a consequence, the outlook for this business from now on is extremely good, according to one-time mayoral candidate for London Steven Norris, Jarviss chairman.

Equally, Jarvis has been getting out of a lot of loss-making operations in accommodation services and contracting. Its freight services business should be profitable from April when new locomotives arrive to service a five-year coal haulage contract with E.ON. And debt has been coming down fairly steadily to manageable levels. With the latest tax rebate, Jarvis borrowing should be down to around 35 million.

With an enterprise value (market capitalisation plus debt) of about 65 million, Jarvis looks a snip in relation to the scale of its business. Granted, there are still questions to answer and the next set of figures will not look particularly pretty, but the accompanying statement should make better reading as far as the future is concerned. One to buy while the shares are still bumping along the bottom."

Jarvis wins 40 mln stg contract from Network Rail; sees improved trading in H2
AFX

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Jarvis PLC said it has won a new track renewal and signalling contract worth over 40 mln stg from Network Rail and added it sees improved trading in the second-half compared to first-half.

The company also said it expects its full-year results to be in line with its expectations.

The rail and plant services group said it has received a total tax repayment of 6.5 mln stg from the UK's Revenue and Customs.

Further, its plant has renewed its seasonal treatment fleet contract, worth 5 mln stg, for a further two years, it added.

I'm still in there Dil....and with more than a half decent amount. This is my first 100%+ in a little while. They are also packed in my ISA...done me very well so far. I did need a bit of a shot in the arm after the market shenanigans of recent months.

Fundamentally, still looking cheap. Oh, and then there's takeover rumours galore just for a bit of icing on the cake.

Regards,

THE COUNT!

Cheers COUNT , I bought based on the chart and backed up by results. Looks like a no brainer over the next few months.

The Count - 02 Jun 2008 18:57 - 31 of 142

THE COUNT--->DIL

Screw those effing charts!

I bought in for the first time in years when they announced the profit warning last November. When read in some detail, it clearly didn't signal the death knell of their new business model but merely a delay. This can signal some of the best recovery situations around, especially with a stock as unloved as this was due to all their problems in the prior couple of years. The City and investors sold the stock off, more in disgust than on fundamentals.

I started buying back at 22p...and then it fell.

I bought a lot more in the late teens...and then it fell.

I bought loads more in the early teens and shoved a few hundred thousand in my ISA as well...and it fell.

I bought the cheapest block at around 10p, not quite catching the low point of 9p. It stopped falling....contrary to what the chartists were telling us.

Then it started its recovery. I bought a few more, and before I knew it, I was riding just over a million shares all the way back up again and with lots of brown stuff in my pants....proverbially speaking. I only ever intended to buy a few hundred thousand for recovery, but circumstances and fundamentals forced me to do otherwise.

Obviously, now I am laughing as my average is about 17p.

I have my cushion now, so I will try and ride them for a year or two to see where we go, especially as there has also been talk of takeover from a couple of areas.

I think the wider stock sell off today shaved a couple of pence of their closing price.

Regards,

THE COUNT!

From the "UPS" thread..........

The other reason is:

It could be the end of the rise for the moment being by the way
the candlestick finished today, called "ADVANCE BLOCK PATTERN"

BEARISH ADVANCE BLOCK
Type: Reversal
Relevance: Bearish
Prior Trend: Bullish

Definition:
It is a pattern characterized by three long white candlesticks with consecutively higher closes during an uptrend. The Bearish Advance Block Pattern is similar to the Bullish Three White Soldiers Pattern. The difference is the fact that each successive day is weaker than the one preceding it. This may suggest that the rally is losing strength and a reversal is possible.

Also:
Earnings per share (GBP) 3.40 2007 (Act) 3.70 2008 (Est) 4.10 2009 (Est)
Public transport sector seems to be attracting more interest, though I would have called it a medium to long term investment, unless there is any kind of M & A activity.

I've put you on the "SHEEP SHAGGER" list, but being from Wales is nothing new to you.

1 - We are talking about JRVS in this thread.

2- My selections are short term, for a long time now I do not put any longer share certificates under the mattress like you, the climate of the economy is not for doing so.

3- Noticed you have put down 2 share charts for long term that are around the same price or down, what about the one's that are well UP looser.

4 - Accept your mistakes, Learn and then take it like a MAN

5- I have look at the records and have PHTM as buying at 15p and selling at 16.50p small profit, but last February 7th bought it a 23.723p and sold them one week later @33.50p on the 15th for 1.495 profit.
MDX bought at 47.50p and sold 48.50, it went as high as 54p next day, just cover cost.

HARRYCAT
re - MRSI, what do you mean by 'short term'?

It has been explain above, looking at charts they go in clycles, very much influenced by Indicators, like MACD, RSI and Stochastich, one can make money during this periods, like "cat bounce" in BDEV, from last week 52.50p to Monday 103p, I did good money, and never bought at bottom or sold at top.

Jarvis Interim Management Statement

TIDMJRVS

RNS Number : 1948X
Jarvis PLC
11 August 2009

?
Interim Management Statement

Jarvis plc ('the Group') publishes its Interim Management Statement
covering the period from the beginning of the Group's financial year, 1 April
2009, to date.

The Group's strategy to concentrate on its Rail, Plant and Freight businesses,
while ensuring its facilities management business continues to improve margins,
remains on track. The Company has incurred a small operating loss during the
first quarter which is in line with management expectations.

Following Network Rail's previously reported decision to delay work until later
in the current Control Period (which runs from April 2009 - March 2014), volumes
in the Group's Rail business have reduced to the expected levels in the first
quarter which has also impacted as expected on the Plant business. The
restructuring programme announced in March 2009 to reduce the Group's cost base
is progressing well. However, as we do not expect volumes to improve in the
short term the business has identified further cost and operational efficiencies
which we anticipate will result in a further GBP3m in exceptional costs.

As announced on 14 July 2009 Chief Executive, Richard Entwistle has decided to
retire with effect from this year's Annual General Meeting on 3 September.
Richard will be succeeded as Chief Executive by Stuart Laird, currently the
Group's Chief Operating Officer and in line with the Group's objective of
downsizing the role of Chief Operating Officer will not be replaced.

Freight has continued to perform well and, as reported on 3 June 2009, we
have secured a 32 month extension to our coal haulage contract with E.ON UK. In
the second quarter volumes are expected to reduce in line with normal seasonal
trends and the general reduction in demand for electricity in the economy.

Unaudited net debt at the end of June 2009 stood at GBP20.2m. It was pleasing to
be able to report on 9 July that we were able to extend our banking facilities
for a further year to January 2011.

Chairman of Jarvis plc, Steven Norris said: "As we have said before volumes are
expected to continue at the anticipated lower levels throughout the current
financial year. Tender activity should start to pick up in the second half,
although short term visibility remains poor. Beyond this year prospects look
more promising. The CP4 five year control period has now commenced and Network
Rail has a capital works programme which is funded to 2014. The government also
recently announced a GBP1.1 billion project to electrify two major rail
lines. These are significant opportunities for a contractor with our level of
expertise and we will be working hard to ensure we maximise the benefits these
present."

Deutsche Bahn signs $26B Qatar railroad deal
Deutsche Bahn, Qatari Diar sign $26 billion railroad deal in gas-rich Qatar

DOHA, Qatar (AP) -- An investment company owned by Qatar's sovereign wealth fund on Sunday signed a $26 billion deal with Germany's national railway operator to build a railroad network, a key part of the natural gas-rich Gulf sheikdom's expansion plans.

Under the deal, the Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company and Deutsche Bahn AG will set up a joint venture to develop a metro system in Qatar's capital, as well as a national rail network and a long-distance connection to neighboring Bahrain.

Qatar will hold a 51 percent stake in Qatar Railways Development Company and the German state-held railway will have a 49 percent stake

"This announcement represents the next step in the creation of this visionary Qatari project that will truly revolutionize the ease and convenience by which people travel," said Ghanim Bin Saad al-Saad, Qatari Diar's chief executive.

The railroad network will take about 15 years to complete, but the national railroad and the local commuter system for Doha is expected to be 70 percent built by 2017 to support the tiny Gulf nation's bid for the World Cup in 2022 and the Olympics in 2020.

Statement re: Suspension

TIDMJRVS

RNS Number : 1636J
Jarvis PLC
25 March 2010

?
Jarvis plc
25 March 2010
Suspension of Trading and Appointment of Administrators
As announced in the Interim Management Statement of 17 February 2010, Jarvis plc
(the "Company") has been impacted by economic conditions generally and, in
particular, the very considerable reductions in rail and plant work volumes,
meaning that trading conditions have been, and continue to be, difficult.
During this period the Board has been focussed on improving the financial
position and the long-term viability of the Company for the benefit of all of
its stakeholders.
The successful achievement of this goal depended upon the continued support of
key customers and creditors (including the lenders under the Company's secured
working capital facility and Network Rail), and the ability of the Company to
win new work. The recent success in being awarded the Chiltern Railway's
Evergreen 3 Contract was therefore encouraging.
However, following negotiations with the Company's secured lenders, it has today
become clear that sufficient support will not be extended to the Company to
enable it to continue trading as a going concern.
As a consequence, the Directors now have no option but to take steps (together
with the Company's secured lenders) to place the Company, and certain of its
subsidiaries, into administration, and to request that trading in its shares be
suspended with immediate effect.
