Landkom - Cashing in on the Soft Commodity Boom (LKI)

G D Potts - 21 Feb 2008 19:15

Landkom is fast becoming one of Europes largest producers of high value agricultural feed stocks including oil seed rape (OSR) and wheat for the biofuel and food markets. The company's production is centred in Western Ukraine where the land is amongst the most fertile in the world. In 2007 the company will have planted 10,000 hectares of land for harvest in 2008.

Demand for feedstock in markets in Europe and the rest of the world is likely to outstrip supply for several years to come. European Union (EU) biodiesel, which has been mandated for a 5.75% biodiesel blend rising to 10% by 2020, is likely to result in a demand/supply imbalance in the world OSR and wheat market.

Landkom is well positioned to take full advantage of opportunities due to its geographical location in Europe, modern farming methods, low cost operations, better than average yields and flexibility of crop.

Landkom is a major positive contributor to the economy as we are now fully utilising former agricultural land which was fallow.

Raised 50.1million through its placing on the 15th of November 2007 at a price of 50 to 52p a share

Current Targets (Expected upgrade and update on planting in March 08)
Current rights to 50,000 hectares (10,000 planted) and a target to increase this to 350,000 hectares

28 January 2008

LANDKOM INTERNATIONAL PLC

Landkom fully endorses proposed EC biofuels sustainability criteria

Landkom International PLC (AIM: LKI, 'Landkom' or 'the Company'), the Ukrainian
producer of high-value oil seed rape and wheat, fully endorses and supports the
transport biofuels targets and the strict environmental sustainability criteria
for biofuels proposed on 23 January 2008 by the European Commission.

In particular, Landkom supports the proposals relating to restrictions over the
use of forested land or land designated for forestry for crop production and
measures to be taken to reduce environmental damage by de-forestation.

All of the land leased and cropped by Landkom is non-forest arable land, which
has traditionally and legally been designated and used solely for the production
of crops such as wheat and oil seed rape for many decades and in some cases for
centuries.

Landkom aims to produce First Quality OO Grade Oil Seed Rape with full
provenance and adheres where possible to EU quality control standards and other
control assurances from field to silo.

Environmental impact studies commissioned by Landkom confirm that it does not
fall within any of the proposed EC criteria regarding environmental
sustainability. Moreover, the EU restrictions fully complement Landkom's
environmental and ethical ethos.

In addition to meeting all of the proposed environmental standards, Landkom's
activities are increasing levels of employment and social cohesion in the
region; are resulting in greater productivity from land that has been idle for
over a decade; and are supporting further investment into the local economies of
the regions in which Landkom operates.

Richard Spinks, Landkom Chief Executive, commented:

'We are fully compliant with the proposed directive from the European
Commission. We take our responsibilities regarding environmental sustainability
and climate change very seriously and we therefore welcome and fully support the
proposals.

'Getting this right is important. We not only have the ambition to become
Europe's largest single sustainable producer of oil seed rape and wheat within
three years but are also making a significant contribution to the improved
standard of living of the people living in the regions where we operate. This
supports the Regional Administrations' ambitious plans for social welfare and
economic improvement.'

Hmmmm you've got my attention, its just getting the time for any research, 10,000hectares doesn't sound like a great deal, i had a quick look at their site but do we know cash position, market cap etc...?

HARRYCAT - 21 Feb 2008 20:24 - 4 of 62

Big write-up in Shares Mag 7th feb.
Market value 195m
As quoted "No forecasts are available but this should change after it's upgrade goes public next month (March)."
3-4% spread on the sp & looks like it may be tricky to trade any substantial quantity. Worth watching, imo.

G D Potts - 21 Feb 2008 21:20 - 5 of 62

Through O8 this should press ahead strongly, am in only as of a few weeks ago. As Harrycat says an update is due in March when it is very likely the 10'000 hectare prediction will be upgraded significantly. So I've bought in before that date and expect to see solid progress continuing as the industry and Landkom continue to find favour in the market.

A few months ago Investors.Chronicle also ran a similar article, citing LKI as a strong buy.

BigTed - 21 Feb 2008 21:49 - 6 of 62

What about funds, any risk of dilution/placings?

HARRYCAT - 21 Feb 2008 22:18 - 7 of 62

Data very sketchy at the moment.
No historic or prospective PE & no yield figures.
Target of total of 60k hectares by end of '08.
The attraction of this stock is definitely the current price of soft commodities, but the slightest hint of a poor harvest would knock the sp badly.
Probably best to await figures in march to have a better idea of the financing.

G D Potts - 21 Feb 2008 22:56 - 8 of 62

The IPO on the 15th of November 07 raised approx 50.1 million for spending on planting, machinery and increasing the company's land bank. I doubt they would have extinguished all of this cash already but I would not rule out a fundraising in 2009.
They will also be recieving revenues from the harvest in July and August which should heavily support the company through 2008. Would suggest buying before the news in March, but this of course depends on any aversion to risk

BigTed - 22 Feb 2008 09:04 - 9 of 62

RNS this morning...

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Landkom International PLC said it has produced its first biofuel, which it can use to cut the running costs of its fleet of trucks and tractors.

The Ukraine based feed stock producer said the cost of a litre of its own-produced bio-diesel is 30 cents, or about a third of the current cost of the diesel with which it will be blended, initially in a 20 pct bio-diesel and 80 pct diesel combination.

Landkom, which spends 2 mln usd a year on mineral diesel fuel, said the biofuel has been produced from its non-core crops on existing marginal land. TFN.newsdesk@thomson.com yos/ukn/slm

BigTed - 22 Feb 2008 09:07 - 10 of 62

Good to see Chief Exec supporting company with cash...
This RNS from 25.01.08...

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Ukraine-based feed stocks producer Landkom International PLC said chief executive Richard Spinks bought 13,300 shares at 76 pence each, taking his stake in the company to 11.41 mln shares or 6.03 pct.

BigTed - 22 Feb 2008 09:15 - 11 of 62

Had a read of Farmer's weekly, old habits die hard!Talks about agriculture becoming more important now than since the war due to rising population, prosperity therefore demand for exotic foods, reduction of agricultural land by growing housing pressures, falling agricultural yields, higher input costs and wilder weather. Not sure whether it is easier to just buy cfds/ spreadbets in soft commodities which will only benefit from all of the above as well as a falling dollar. Difficult to appraise the management, politics risk of disease involved in Landkom's venture and commodities will always have some intrinsic value whilst shares can ultimately become worthless or diluted.

BigTed - 23 Feb 2008 20:48 - 13 of 62

Have wheat and corn futures on watchlist with spreadbet, but looking at this type of company, in its infancy to cover agricultural would be a favourable exposure and with no running costs of SB or CFD's...

Juzzle - 29 Feb 2008 12:27 - 14 of 62

Share price powering ahead. My stake is via a quarterly spreadbet with IG-index

G D Potts - 04 Mar 2008 09:39 - 15 of 62

Good news today. Landbank predictions at 115'000 hectares by the end of 2008. Currently at 76'000.

G D Potts - 06 Mar 2008 12:05 - 16 of 62

Hope everyone bought in before the update,

hightech - 10 Apr 2008 10:00 - 17 of 62

Good results and plans... future is bright for this co, imo

Greyhound - 19 May 2008 12:49 - 18 of 62

Looking very good here, been acquiring some stock of late.

ahoj - 20 May 2008 16:16 - 19 of 62

2 to come. Oil is 129

HARRYCAT - 20 May 2008 17:02 - 20 of 62

That makes oil $254 pb!!! I think not! :o)

ahoj - 21 May 2008 08:12 - 21 of 62

The production is planned to increase 30% a year.
Given their performance this year, the increase can be much more and much more productive than the current levels.

Their cost is very low... Watch and learn... DGO was 10p when I suggested to buy!

Greyhound - 17 Jun 2008 13:49 - 22 of 62

Picking up again now, this should continue to gain going forward.

Greyhound - 18 Jun 2008 09:21 - 23 of 62

Looks to have fallen too much of late, and a bit of catch up to regain the former highs.

HARRYCAT - 18 Jun 2008 09:52 - 24 of 62

LKI will update the market on their progress in sept '08, but planting & land aquisition seem to be on target. Broker target is currently 118p. However, bad weather & a poor harvest look to be the only risk factors, in a market of high oil seed & wheat prices.
If they increase their land bank at the end of the year, it is probable that they will need to raise more capital, so share dilution a possibility.

Greyhound - 19 Jun 2008 09:05 - 25 of 62

That looks like good news on the summer harvesting agreements and a bit of additional revenue to come from the cereal crops already planted.

ahoj - 29 Aug 2008 08:09 - 26 of 62

I suppose that was very positive. Why the fall then?

HARRYCAT - 29 Aug 2008 08:33 - 27 of 62

From what I read a few weeks ago, there is concern that the Ukraine is on russia's list of areas which may see troop deployments. Political uncertainty is knocking this one, imo.

ahoj - 29 Aug 2008 08:43 - 28 of 62

I thought that is more positive.

scotinvestor - 10 Oct 2008 16:16 - 29 of 62

broker target 118p.....lol, hilarious.

18p more like.....or 1.8p

Falcothou - 10 Oct 2008 19:11 - 30 of 62

Farmers have had a tough year sky high fertiliser and diesel costs. Big combines use 700 litres/day and big tractors some use 1000 litres/day then a really wet Summer trashing the crop and preventing any milling wheat premium and then once the harvest was in a collapse in commodity prices. For those that sold forward and managed to get a good crop they will be laughing but those selling spot with trashed crops won't be happy. It is a big worry if farmers or agribusiness gets damaged by the credit crunch. Farmers need a lot of working capital for wages, depreciation, seed fuel etc and if their credit lines or overdrafts get called in there won't be a lot of food for a huge population to get their teeth into, certainly more worrying than seeing a few bureaucratic penpushers getting redundancy.

Falcothou - 19 Oct 2008 20:08 - 31 of 62

Shareholders have give up but they have not judging by recruitment in Farmer's Weekly

ahoj - 30 Oct 2008 08:52 - 32 of 62

Yes, we are alking about one of Europe's largest producers of high value agricultural products... and the share price has fallen from 110 to 12.5p due to sentiment.

Big investors baught large chunk of this company at 100p earlier this year.

A couple of 100K folowed by 50k purchases during last tree days.

HARRYCAT - 30 Oct 2008 09:44 - 33 of 62

It has not fallen due to 'sentiment'. It has fallen due to fundamentals. Rising costs, falling commodity prices, poor harvest & politcal uncertainty. The sp would have taken a tumble, imo, even without the credit crunch. Maybe not as far, but this is a high risk stock.

ahoj - 30 Oct 2008 13:34 - 34 of 62

It depends on what you mean by fundamentals.
Do you consider the valu of asset ZERO?
I thought assets worth 25-100p depending.

ahoj - 10 Nov 2009 15:17 - 35 of 62

highest volumes ever during last few days.

kate bates - 19 Apr 2010 10:48 - 36 of 62

is this 4x under nav? Much renewed interest and high volume alert. What's occuring? They're a very large company when you delve into them.

kate bates - 19 Apr 2010 13:37 - 37 of 62

bought a few , will buy more if it gets over 10p. Quite bullish on these as broker had to collect off 3 different MMs - ie work the trade.

HARRYCAT - 19 Apr 2010 15:26 - 38 of 62

In which case you might have a problem selling them when the time comes.

ahoj - 06 Aug 2010 15:47 - 39 of 62

how long willit take to get to 100p?

goldfinger - 23 Aug 2010 12:33 - 40 of 62

21/8/2010

Article in the Telegraph today features LKI as a potential beneficiary of food inflation.

LANDKOM

This Aim-listed company owns land in Ukraine that yields many wheat and some rapeseed crops. Unaffected by the recent fires in Russia and poised to benefit from its neighbours export restrictions, this company is high risk but has the potential for high returns. The companys largest shareholders are Invesco Perpetual and JP Morgan, and the share price has picked up in the last quarter with wheat prices.

hotshot - 20 Sep 2010 09:05 - 41 of 62

This Company could outperform.......wheat prices up 100% and no damage from the Russian heatwave......efficiency up & costs down and the new sowing season ahead.
Even if yields are somewhat disappointing.....prices & lower costs will in my opinion will give LKI there best ever results....bearing in mind 3 years ago when the share price was around 60p and farming only half the acreage....they do stand a fair chance of producing much better results.....subject to the imminent update which is unlikely to have any bad news......twice the acreage & twice the price with big modern machinery & much lower cultivation costs in my mind equates to a big improvement......
I used to farm a fair acreage....hence the interest.

hotshot - 29 Sep 2010 12:42 - 42 of 62

GOLDFINGER......Landcom trading statement due shortly....farming twice the area from 2 years ago with twice the price increase on wheat/grains suggests good times..... already showing profit on the Oilseed rape harvest (1st time ever)
Grain sales will also be in profit....very promising I think.
Their new sowing season is ahead of schedule....sounds like a no-brainer

goldfinger - 29 Sep 2010 12:47 - 43 of 62

Cheers hotshot was expecting it.

Just keeping fingers crossed the market in general doesnt throw a wobbler.

Theres certainly a lot of volatility at the moment and thats one thing Im not keen on unless Im intraday trading.

Which im not at the moment.

cheers.

Landkom International ST: the RSI is oversold
30 Sep 2010 - 10:27

Click here to see our chart:
http://www.tradingcentral.com/chart/LKIGBp100930112514.gif
Our pivot point is at 7.75.
Our preference: the downside prevails as long as 7.75 is resistance.
Alternative scenario: the upside breakout of 7.75 would call for 8 and 8.25.
Comment: the RSI is trading below 30. This could mean that either the stock is
in a lasting downtrend or just oversold and that therefore a rebound could
shape (look for bullish divergence in this case). The MACD is negative and
below its signal line. The configuration is negative. Moreover, the stock is
trading under both its 20 and 50 day MA (standing respectively at 8.04 and
8.74). Finally, Landkom International is trading below its lower daily
Bollinger band (standing at 7.45).

"New-comer" crop....CORN,more than experimental this year is on target to produce approximately a staggering 40,000 tons.
TO my knowledge, this crop has not been mentioned in past statements...update to now
Already sold 32,000 tons of Rapeseed at a first time profit.
20,000 tons of wheat (winter & spring) combined....to sell yet..!!!!
say 35/40,000 tons of Corn...... all to sell yet
All soft commodity prices trading high...grains in particular, dollar to continue weak.....
inflation becoming a real threat to America.
SO..........
How good are their FIRST TIME PROFITS going to be...????

ahoj - 23 Mar 2011 08:50 - 46 of 62

LKI had a good progress, plus funding in place.
with crop prices at current levels they have to make a profit, off course if there is no bid coming.

Any other views?

ahoj - 23 Mar 2011 11:50 - 47 of 62

Volume has been increasing during last two weeks. Today may break the record.
Worth watching.

ahoj - 23 Mar 2011 22:55 - 48 of 62

good volume again. But buy signal will be at 11p.

hotshot - 14 Apr 2011 11:39 - 49 of 62

America cannot produce anymore Grain above existing outputs....Why?....they have every possible acre sown and need this coming Season the most favourable growing conditions to stand any chance of the reducing the SHORTAGE.....in other words they need record yields this year......wheat could even get scarcer.....a lot of wheat acreage is being switched into Corn (maize-even better prices than wheat).
It looks very interesting to me.......in fact the whole World needs a good Harvest......
what chances of that with WEATHER EXTREMES....????....Oil prices sky high and more grain needed for Ethanol ...!!!!!
Looks more than an interesting Year to me..!!!!

hotshot - 15 Apr 2011 15:20 - 50 of 62

Nice rise with good volume today.......buy signal confirmed

This bunch of abusive retards is the reason MoneyAM will NEVER have a forum worth reading.

I have reported them to support by they do nothing, either because they want to force me to PAY them for the Traders Room or because they are too lazy to do anything. Maybe the people in support are the ones perpetrating the abuse, so as to force people to pay for the premium boards. Either way the service is sh1te and a disgrace to the finance industry. No wonder there is nobody left here apart from morons.

I will continue posting my good research on boards that are run in accordance with FSA and LSE listing rules and the interests of the market, not here where ar5eh0les rule the boards and all decent research is buried under their piles of sh1te.

If there is not serious surprize, the price can jump a couple of folds.
I should clarify, I am still holding my initial purchase above 100p and still optimistic! and adding more!

Landkom completes southern harvest with dramatically improved yields

StockMarketWire.com

Ukrainian agricultural producer Landkom International has completed the harvest in the group's southern operations with dramatically improved yields.

The winter barley yield for the south was up 110% to 4.03 tonnes per hectare (ha) (2010: 1.9 tonnes per ha), with the winter wheat yield up 50% to 3.23 tonnes per ha (2010: 2.2 tonnes per ha).

The group's southern operations harvested 4,382 ha of winter wheat (2010: 1,654 ha) and 535 ha of winter barley (2010: 588 ha).

The substantially improved yields were obtained due to more efficient harvesting equipment completing the harvest within the optimum time period.

The group also has 1,648 ha of mixed crops, including sunflower and soya, in its southern operations which are scheduled to be harvested over the next few weeks. An additional crop of sunflower is planned on some irrigated fields.
