Samoa shock Australia with 32-23 win in Sydney

Sunday, 17 July 2011 11:36 UK

George Stowers and Taiasina Tuifu'a celebrate Samoa's victory Wales' World Cup opponents Samoa stunned Australia with a 32-23 victory in Sydney on Sunday.

The Samoans led from the third minute with Alesana Tuilagi and full-back Paul Williams scoring in the first half.

Lock Kane Thompson and centre George Pisi added two further tries in the second half with fly-half Tusi Pisi kicking two penalties and three conversions for the Samoans.

Samoa face Wales in a Pool D game in Hamilton on 18 September.

The Wallabies scored 13 of their points in the 10 minutes when Samoa were reduced to 14 men with lock Daniel Leo in the sin-bin.

Fly-half Matt Giteau scored 18 points from a late try, two conversions and three penalties for Australia.

"The main focus this week was to believe in ourselves. We came out here just to win this game," said try-scorer Tuilagi.

"We know it's going to be a tough game but we believed in ourselves and, thanks God, we did it today."

Samoa will also face holders South Africa, Fiji and Namibia in pool matches at this autumn's World Cup in New Zealand.

Dil:Starts in 8 days time, time to get your excuse sheet out !!

hodgins - 02 Sep 2011 14:59 - 4 of 412

England at best will lose a quarter final to France. If Wales can beat South Africa they will be in the semi finals and then who knows?

Dil - 04 Sep 2011 21:37 - 5 of 412

Well at least the crowd won't fall asleep when we play.

Bullshare - 05 Sep 2011 08:56 - 6 of 412

Crowd, what, you are expecting a crowd at the Wales game, a crowd is a collection of people not one person by themself!!

I actually think england are taking a good team, not World cup winners but might play with a bit more style than normal!

Martini - 05 Sep 2011 11:11 - 7 of 412

Yes can't see any of the Northern hemisphere side being a match for the Southern but like all cup competitions you never know what will happen over a small number of one off games.

Looking forward to the coverage even if it is going to be at some strange times.

Bring it on.

ptholden - 06 Sep 2011 15:47 - 8 of 412

Martini - 11 Sep 2011 10:51 - 47 of 412

He has even stopped complaining about the kick that wasn't given in the first half :)

Martini - 11 Sep 2011 10:57 - 48 of 412

take that back he is now wanting to lynch the ref if they lose!

Martini - 11 Sep 2011 11:14 - 49 of 412

Yep the English ref lost it for them by not overriding the linesman. :)

Dil - 11 Sep 2011 11:52 - 50 of 412

Who's reffing our next match Co Co the feckin clown ????

Oh sorry he did todays match .... Barnes should be shot.

Dil - 11 Sep 2011 11:54 - 51 of 412

I just seen it again ... its in by bloody miles !

required field - 11 Sep 2011 11:58 - 52 of 412

SA were very lucky......same old them really, no where near as good as they were 4 years ago : they sit back, absorb pressure and wait for people to make mistakes...same tactic as in the last world cup.....they will not win it again on that performance....if only Wales had just put over a couple of those missed penalties...unlucky .....

Dil - 11 Sep 2011 12:05 - 53 of 412

"if only Wales had just put over a couple of those missed penalties"

You winding me up ????? :-)

Bullshare - 12 Sep 2011 14:19 - 54 of 412

Dil: I presume the Welsh team have booked their early flights home on night of 2nd October after Fiji game, I have a friend looking for some cheap hotel accomodation in Hamilton that night, should be lots of empty rooms available !

skinny - 14 Sep 2011 11:04 - 55 of 412

I see Scotland won earlier. Rugby World Cup 2011 Pool B: Scotland 15-6 Georgia

Dil - 16 Sep 2011 20:10 - 56 of 412

I heard Tindall scored.

Dil - 17 Sep 2011 09:29 - 57 of 412

Our quarter final opponents will come from the Aus v Ire match , lets see if we got anything to worry about given we are the only home nation with a realistic chance of going further than the quarter finals.

Martini - 17 Sep 2011 10:18 - 58 of 412

Well not much to worry you so far. The Paddies could win this yet - tempted to have a punt on them.

Dil - 17 Sep 2011 10:40 - 59 of 412

Got them at evens with a 11.5 start .... but I've got everything wrong so far :-)

Dil - 17 Sep 2011 10:54 - 60 of 412

Nice one Ginge !!!!

COME ON U PADDIES !!!!

Martini - 17 Sep 2011 11:00 - 61 of 412

Layed the Ireland bet and gone long The Ozzies with the profit.

Martini - 17 Sep 2011 11:02 - 62 of 412

Hmmm maybe should have been happy with the profit!

Dil - 17 Sep 2011 11:07 - 63 of 412

Mines 1.01 to lay but Aussies need to score 22pts for me to lose :-)

Dil - 17 Sep 2011 11:08 - 64 of 412

Or could back it at 1000 :-)

Martini - 17 Sep 2011 11:10 - 65 of 412

:)

Dil - 17 Sep 2011 11:12 - 66 of 412

We got Ireland in the quarters .... bring it on !!!!!

Martini - 17 Sep 2011 11:13 - 67 of 412

Well done the Paddies a famous victory.

Dil - 17 Sep 2011 11:16 - 68 of 412

That blind English tw*t did us a favour ... we'll murder Ireland.

Dil - 17 Sep 2011 11:54 - 69 of 412

All we need now is France to win and the draw is likely to be :

Wales v Ireland
France v Arg/Scotland

England v NZ (I'll even cheer for England)
Australia v S Africa

.... or we could just lose to Samoa or Fiji and come home.

MightyMicro - 18 Sep 2011 01:19 - 70 of 412

"England v NZ (I'll even cheer for England)" - Dil, 17 Sep 2011.

Just capturing this for adding to Dil's monumental engraving. :)

Martini - 18 Sep 2011 10:24 - 71 of 412

Well 6 tries can't be bad but the first half was again littered with penalties and in the end the score flattered England. Will need to up their game if they are to have any chance against the stronger teams in the later stages.

Did not see the Wales game but from the score it looks like it was a tight game and Samoa are no push over.

Most of the favoured Nations are stuttering in these opening games. Nerves or the opposition rising to the occasion? Who knows!

required field - 18 Sep 2011 10:27 - 72 of 412

Just had a quick look at France-Canada and I think that Steve Coogan is playing for Canada......can't be....

required field - 18 Sep 2011 10:28 - 73 of 412

Stunning result for Ireland...what a result....missed that game thinking the Aussies would win...

Dil - 18 Sep 2011 19:51 - 74 of 412

3 dire games today , Wales looked as though they couldn't be arsed.

Martini - 22 Sep 2011 10:58 - 75 of 412

SA looking awesome. Weak opponents but did the business.

12.5 on Betfair to win the WC had to have a punt at those odds.

Dil - 22 Sep 2011 20:48 - 76 of 412

Looks like France are going to throw Saturday's match to get an easy game in the quarters v England.

M ... Ebbooo would have looked awsome against that shower and weren't SA the team who struggled against Wales ?

How much have you bunged on us ? :-)

Dil - 22 Sep 2011 20:54 - 77 of 412

Post 11

"Betfred:

Sequestor - 26 Sep 2011 09:53 - 87 of 412

Why was the Namibian team all white guys, just wondered?

skinny - 26 Sep 2011 09:56 - 88 of 412

It looked a bit odd didn't it! I guess they are mainly of German ancestory?

Sequestor - 26 Sep 2011 10:00 - 89 of 412

From WW1 you mean, it was part of the German Empire then I think?

skinny - 26 Sep 2011 10:09 - 90 of 412

Yes that was my thinking.

Sequestor - 26 Sep 2011 10:41 - 91 of 412

Blimey German influence indeed

...
"However, the father of Luftwaffe commander Hermann Ging was a one-time German colonial governor of Namibia and has a street named after him in Swakopmund."
"

Dil - 26 Sep 2011 18:57 - 92 of 412

Well if their no. 15 was white then he had one helluva sun tan.

Byrne , Jenkins , Halfpenny and Ryan Jones all made good comebacks and now that Stephen Jones has got his record cap Gatland will hopefully not pick him ever again.

Dil - 30 Sep 2011 10:25 - 93 of 412

Cracking effort by the Samoan's against S Africa didn't really appreciate how good they were when they played Wales thought it was us having a bit of an off day.

Dil - 30 Sep 2011 10:28 - 94 of 412

COME ON SCOTLAND !!!

:-)

MightyMicro - 01 Oct 2011 01:37 - 95 of 412

Thank you Dil! :-)

Martini - 01 Oct 2011 07:25 - 96 of 412

Going to watch this one from behind the sofa. Scotland have a nasty habit of raining on England's parade. 7.2 Scotland win hmm maybe a comfort bet here.

France making hard work of their match against Tonga

Sequestor - 01 Oct 2011 08:00 - 97 of 412

Martini - 01 Oct 2011 09:18 - 100 of 412

Terrible first half from England - Scotland are playing a blinder.

My comfort bet is the only chink of light God forbid it wins by more than 8 points!

PS

Dil my phones bust :)

Dil - 01 Oct 2011 09:25 - 101 of 412

Cheryl Cole would be better at 3 than that clown you got.

Tram tae Auchenshuggle mister?

hahahahah

triples all round lads.

Sequestor - 01 Oct 2011 12:19 - 108 of 412

Anyone else think that refs are becoming more like coaches in Rugger, the number of times they stop the game for some minor infringement depite the fact that the team not guilty have the advantagel is a reall Aris` pain.
The England match today was a prime example, itf there had been no ref there the score would have been much the same, and the game more fluid, they are on top of the ball getting in the way the whole 80 mins., there are enough linesmen ( now assistand refs) and CCTV to keep order.

SACK THE REFS.

Dil - 01 Oct 2011 15:01 - 109 of 412

lol yeah ... starting with that blind English tw*t

required field - 01 Oct 2011 18:19 - 110 of 412

England could go all the way to the final again.....long way to go but it's a big, big possibility !.

Martini - 02 Oct 2011 01:00 - 111 of 412

A little bet on Georgia at 21 - do Scotland go through if they win?

Dil - 02 Oct 2011 05:44 - 112 of 412

More chance of Fiji winning by 39 and qualifying than there was of Georgia winning M.

I got Wales -20.5 at 2.1

Dil - 02 Oct 2011 06:03 - 113 of 412

Oh ffs we got that blind English tw*t reffing again !

Dil - 02 Oct 2011 06:25 - 114 of 412

1.17 to lay after 20 minutes , I'm out :-)

Dil - 02 Oct 2011 06:41 - 115 of 412

Lol the blind ref missed a clear foward pass for Wales third try.

Dil - 02 Oct 2011 06:47 - 116 of 412

Bonus point , we're through yippeee and it aint half time yet :-)

Dil - 02 Oct 2011 07:00 - 117 of 412

Armitage cited .... more English cheating to go with the off field antics.

Sequestor - 02 Oct 2011 07:25 - 118 of 412

So they are blowing away a minor team-Wales that is-they might at least let the poor sods get a try to save face, not very gentlemanly behaviour.

Think head hunting Wales, think on

lol

Dil - 02 Oct 2011 07:56 - 119 of 412

Could do with a couple more All Blacks getting injured before we play them.

Martini - 02 Oct 2011 10:33 - 120 of 412

Let's have an update of the header Mike.

Dil the cunning plan was Georgia would play their hearts out first half bring the odds down and then hedge. Trouble with that plan is you have to stay awake!

Well looks like New Zealand will be the next big game for England with an easy run in to the final.

Dil - 04 Oct 2011 00:08 - 121 of 412

I hope you beat France as we could then rest a few of our players in the semis.

KEAYDIAN - 05 Oct 2011 13:57 - 122 of 412

Come on Ireland.

Bullshare - 05 Oct 2011 14:59 - 123 of 412

martini Thanks for updating header. Been busy making some MoneyAM mouthguards for the England team, you never know, worth coughing up a 4000 fine :-)

Nice early start for the Welsh, 6am, they are not normally allowed out at the time of the morning under their parole orders!!!

Dil - 06 Oct 2011 12:17 - 124 of 412

I'll be celebrating while your still praying Saturday morning .

Jones not in the squad ... at last they've seen the light , we'll walk this til the final.

Martini - 06 Oct 2011 13:27 - 125 of 412

Betfair have
Ireland 1.88
Wales 2.28

Fill ya boots Dil easy money for you.

dealerdear - 06 Oct 2011 16:18 - 126 of 412

If England beat France which they should, I'd much prefer a semi againt Wales but I suspect it would be Ireland and their record against us in Internationals and at club level over the past 12mnths is impressive.

Sequestor - 06 Oct 2011 19:33 - 127 of 412

No Jones`s in the squad?, bloody hell that reduces it to half a dozen then Davies,Evans,Morgan,Griffeths,Owens and ,Llaregub.

Dil - 07 Oct 2011 01:45 - 128 of 412

Have M at 22's to win the whole thing but will lay some off before the final.

dealerdealer , your more recent record against us is crap ... played our reserves twice and won one.

Sequestor ... you sound like Gausie :-)

Dil - 07 Oct 2011 01:55 - 129 of 412

.... and aint they onabout some Jones playing for your football team ?

Suppose it sounds more English than Ferdinand , Jagielka , Cahill , Zamora or bloody Capello :-)

Sequestor - 07 Oct 2011 07:23 - 130 of 412

whose football team?

required field - 07 Oct 2011 08:41 - 131 of 412

KEAYDIAN - 07 Oct 2011 12:49 - 132 of 412

Hmm, only superb defending and Irish poor decision making keeping Wales in this match. Gonna be a nail biter fir you Dil lol

Dil - 08 Oct 2011 06:53 - 146 of 412

Wales should stop kicking what little possession they get back down Ireland's throat and start doing what they do best and run it back at them.

Ireland not taking their shots at goal is unbelievable.

Dil - 08 Oct 2011 06:56 - 147 of 412

Hamilton and Button are 1st and second in qualifying at present.

Martini - 08 Oct 2011 06:56 - 148 of 412

Come on Wales would rather you than Ireland in the semis. Punt on Ireland at 2.9 hoping they can convert the possession.

Dil - 08 Oct 2011 07:03 - 149 of 412

Game on

Martini - 08 Oct 2011 07:04 - 150 of 412

Martini - 08 Oct 2011 07:31 - 164 of 412

Dil - 08 Oct 2011 08:30 - 173 of 412

A farmer was out on his Welsh hillside tending his flock one day, when he saw a man drinking with a cupped hand from the stream which ran down from one of his fields. Realising the danger, he shouted over to the man, 'Paid a yfed y dwr! Mae'n ych-y-fi!' [Don't drink the water. It's disgusting!]

The man at the stream lifted his head and put a cupped hand to his ear, shrugged his shoulders at the farmer, and carried on drinking.

Realising the man at the stream couldn't hear him, the farmer moved closer, 'Paid a yfed! Dwr ych-y-fi! Defaid yn cachu yn y dwr!' [Don't drink. Water's disgusting. Sheep poo in the water.]

Still the walker couldn't hear the farmer. Finally the farmer walked right up to the man at the stream and once again said again, 'Dwr yn ych-y-fi! Paid a'i yfed!'. [Water's disgusting. Don't drink it!]

'I'm dreadfully sorry my good man, I can't understand a word you say dear boy! Can't you speak English?' said the man at the stream, in a splendid English accent.

'Oh I see', said the farmer, 'I was just saying, if you use both hands you can get more in........ !

I'll be home late tonight,
England bye bye.

Cheers MM ... good to see some still taking an interest regardless of their team being knocked out , that's what it's all about.

Wonder if Mike , Martini and Gausie will be getting up for the biggest game of the World Cup so far in a few hours time now that their only interest is seeing how good we are.

Gonna text them anyway ... their fault for giving me their numbers :-)

Martini - 09 Oct 2011 06:33 - 207 of 412

"unbiased probabily theories" you still pissed? :)

Dil - 09 Oct 2011 10:04 - 223 of 412

Todays games not a patch on yesterdays.

gibby - 09 Oct 2011 11:11 - 224 of 412

i am sober now dil - but whatever we say it does not make much difference to the england performance - it was piss poor except one player imo manu tuilagi and some almost average perfomance from a few others - france did deserve the win - at least this will be a last run out for some of the existing england team - will look fwd to the rest of the tournament but a pity we are still not in - always next time!!

Dil - 09 Oct 2011 22:48 - 225 of 412

It's likely to be the last run out for that clown Tuilagi for a long time too gibby , WTF are they playing at out there ?

Johnson has to go as soon as the plane lands along with the golden oldies and all the idiots who treated the trip as one long p*ss up.

On the bright side we didn't get out of our pool in 2007 so sacked the manager and did the Grand Slam 5 months later , wouldn't put it past England to do the same.

Dil - 09 Oct 2011 22:48 - 226 of 412

.... and I got my jacket back , what a night :)

Martini - 09 Oct 2011 22:51 - 227 of 412

The only thing Tuilagi did wrong was not to take Johnson with him and save us severance pay!

Dil - 09 Oct 2011 22:59 - 228 of 412

Aussie's were poor , got up to watch it but fell asleep after 20 minutes. New Zealand look a shadow of the team they are with Carter in it but I still think they'll win it.

Current betfair odds :

NZ 1.67
Aus 6.2
Wal 7.2
Fra 9.6

I think Fra should be 6.2 and Aus 9.6 but I know nothing.

Dil - 09 Oct 2011 23:00 - 229 of 412

Lol M , if the ferry had sunk don't think anyone would have rushed to save any of the England party.

Dil - 10 Oct 2011 11:05 - 232 of 412

An Englishman, an Irishman, & a Scotsman walk into a bar & ask the barman where the Welshman is. The Barman replies, "Still in New Zealand".

Limpsfield - 10 Oct 2011 11:15 - 233 of 412

I am stealing that joke

ExecLine - 10 Oct 2011 12:20 - 234 of 412

That joke is only any good for Welshmen.

:-)

Try these:

Welsh rugby player: "Doctor, doctor, every morning when I get up and look in the mirror - I feel like throwing up. What's wrong with me?"
Doctor: "I don't know, but your eyesight is perfect."

.......

Why do Welsh rugby players like smart women?
Opposites attract.

.......

Why do people tend to hate Welsh Rugby players on sight?
Because it saves time.

.......

Welsh Rugby player in Chinese restaurant:
"Waiter, these noodles are a bit crunchy."
Waiter: "That's because they're chopsticks, Sir."

.......

A Welshman went to the doctor one day and said:
"I've just been playing Rugby and when I got back I found that when I touched my legs, my arms, my head, my tummy and everywhere else, it really hurt."
So the doctor said: "You've obviously broken your finger, boyo"

.......

Second Welsh rugby player in restaurant:
"Waiter, this vinegar is rather lumpy."
Waiter: "That's because they're pickled onions, Sir."

Ianto was having a pint at his local when a very loud mouthed englishman by the name of Henry walked in. Ianto couldnt help overhear Henry trying to bet a couple of young lads that they couldnt drink 20 pints in 20 minutes. After a lot of cajoling, Henry was unsuccessful in his plight to make a few quid. He looked around at Ianto and said 'well what about you then?, Are you game?' Ianto downed his pint and left the pub.

Half an hour later Ianto walks back in to his local and says to Henry 'I'll take that bet.' Sure enough Henry smiled at the easy money he would make as Ianto began to drink the pints. Henry's smile soon turned upside down when Ianto polished off the 20 pints in 19 minutes. Handing over the cash, Henry said 'when you left here earlier, where did you go?' Ianto looked at him and replied 'I had to go to the pub down the road to see if I could do it first.'

There are two man made things can be seen from space,
the great wall of china and the hole in the english defence

The English decided to invade Wales, the army had just crossed the border and came to the first forrest when they heard a voice shout "One Welshman is worth two Englishmen".

The army commander couldn't resist the challenge and promptly sent two men into the forrest. After 10 minutes the voice shouted "One Welshman is worth ten Englishmen".

The army commander again couldn't resist the challenge and promptly sent ten men into the forrest. After 10 minutes the voice again shouted "One Welshman is worth 100 Englishmen".

The army commander was now getting angry and sent two hundred men into the forrest. After 10 minutes the voice shouted "One Welshman is worth an English regiment".

The army commander now really angry sent in one of his regiments. After 10 minutes one of the English emerged from the forrest bleeding and dying, and with his last breath he told the army commander...

"it's a trap!.. there's TWO of them in there"!

Three rugby players are sitting in the maternity ward of a hospital waiting for the imminent birth of their respective children. One is a Welshman, one English and the other a West Indian.

They are all very nervous and pacing the floor - as you do in these situations. All of a sudden the doctor bursts through the double doors saying, "Gentlemen you won't believe this but your wives have all had their babies within 5 minutes of each other." The men are beside themselves with happiness and joy. "And", said the doctor, "They have all had little boys." The fathers are ecstatic and congratulate each other over and over. "However we do have one slight problem," the doctor said, "..in all the confusion we may have mixed the babies up getting them to the nursery and would be grateful if you could join us there to try and help identify them."

With that the Welshman raced past the doctor and bolted to the nursery. Once inside he picked up a black infant with dreadlocks saying, "There's no doubt about it, this boy is mine!" The doctor looked bewildered and said, "Well sir of all the babies I would have thought that maybe this child could be of West Indian descent."

"Maybe", said the Welshman, "but one of the other two is English and I'm not taking the chance."

3 young lads are playing on the street in London in 1987 when they were all hit by a speeding bus. Upon arrival in Heaven God says to them, "You weren't supposed to die, you were all supposed to live out your lives. This was not your time. To make it up to you I'll let you choose what you want to do with your life. Take a running jump off that cloud over there and as you're flying back down to Earth shout out what you want to do, and so it shall be."

The 1st kid takes a running leap and shouts, "Spaceman" and so, 20 years later he is a top pilot & scientist and is due to take part in the next manned space expedition in partnership with NASA.

The 2nd kid takes his turn and shouts, "Racing Driver" and so, 20 years later he has worked his way up to become a leading rally driver & is tipped to win major competitions and titles.

The 3rd kid goes to take his turn, and as he runs towards the edge of the cloud he trips over his own feet and stumbles off the cloud muttering, "Stupid clumsy arsehole." 20 years later he's playing in the England squad Backs.

Martini - 15 Oct 2011 07:32 - 272 of 412

Well despite Wales being odds on favourites I have had a punt on them for this match.
Form and passion should see them beat the French.

That should put the kiss of death on their chances of a first WC Final place :)

Dil - 15 Oct 2011 07:32 - 273 of 412

You watching that England video M ?

Jules - 15 Oct 2011 09:56 - 285 of 412

fingers crossed Martini.. a tall ask, but I still think (god forgive me as an aussie) that the Welsh are the inform team. I certainly believe they deserve the final berth!

Dil.. the Welsh are on the up...robbed! but what a future for such a young side

kimoldfield - 15 Oct 2011 11:54 - 295 of 412

There's no arguing with that Jules. Bring on 2015 in England!!

Fred1new - 15 Oct 2011 12:09 - 296 of 412

Hard luck for Wales, but they played well and France played well in containing them.

But the skill levels and fitness of both sides was amazingly high.

An exciting game to watch.

Rant over ... now we need Richie McCaw to be sent off in similar contraversial circumstances tomorrow , the Aussies to win by 1 point then the real final will be back on but a day early :-)

Oh well we got the Aussies in a nothing match on Friday then.

6 week ban reduced to 3 for previous impeccable behaviour for Warburton. Think the sending off was more than punishment enough but the idiots on the IRB had to be shown to be backing the ref. Whole team should fly home with Warburton tomorrow ... you can have third place Jules :-)

Rugby World Cup 2011: Sam Warburton's tip tackle in pictures:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/picturegalleries/8828748/Rugby-World-Cup-2011-Sam-Warburtons-tip-tackle-in-pictures.html

The referee undoubtedly acted according to the letter of the law.

As to whether there was any malicious intent or not isn't shown in the pictures. Many would say that this is the overriding factor and that it must be a bad law if 'malicious intent' isn't taken into consideration.

eg,

If it is: Red card
If it isn't: Yellow card

IMHO, Wales had their chances but missed them - paricularly the last penalty kick that went under the bar instead of over it. This obviously had nothing to do with how many men were on were not on the field. Had the kick scored then Wales would have won the game.

Dil - 17 Oct 2011 13:48 - 312 of 412

Australia's next five matches are against Wales !!!

Friday in NZ
Dec at Millenium
Jun (x3) In Oz

Bring it on !

Dil - 17 Oct 2011 13:54 - 313 of 412

Exec ... the decision was correct according to the letter of the law but it's the inconsistency in applying that law that's the problem.

A directive was also sent out within the last year about feeding the scrum. How many refs have paid any attention to that ?

Dil - 17 Oct 2011 13:57 - 314 of 412

MightyMicro - 17 Oct 2011 15:18 - 321 of 412

I think that's what we were all waiting for . . .

Dil - 17 Oct 2011 15:33 - 322 of 412

There was a better chance for one a bit earlier Keaydian but after cocking one up I think Jones lost his bottle but hey ho it's done now.

And unlike the Western Mail I think New Zealand would have won the final but it would have been nice to have had a crack at them.

From all the games I watched I have to give credit where credit is due, the Argies I thought came of age, just hope the Italians can do the same. England were woeful and Wales a PR publicity stunt :-).

Just hope the All Blacks knock some points up against the French.

M

Dil - 18 Oct 2011 00:51 - 325 of 412

Saw the Argies in their one and only warm up game against Wales and was suprised how good they looked with ball in hand and playing a running game.

All England need is a coach with a bit of bottle to pick a few flair players instead of over rated ex rugby league players.

Where's Cipriani these days ?

Rugby World Cup 2011: IRB to assess Warren Gatland cheat claim

The International Rugby Board is to review Warren Gatland's claim he considered cheating in Wales' defeat by France in the World Cup semi-finals.

Gatland admitted he considered asking a prop to fake an injury, which would have led to uncontested scrums.

That would have helped Wales, as their pack was already a man down following the dismissal of captain Sam Warburton.

Dil - 18 Oct 2011 20:06 - 331 of 412

Welsh Rugby Union chief executive Roger Lewis said Gatland should actually be praised for choosing not to claim a fake injury though.

"Warren Gatland should be applauded in this professional era where tough things and tough decisions are made that he didn't go into that particular zone," said Lewis.

Wales Rugby Union chief executive Roger Lewis praises Gatland's honesty
"That was something that was considered and the guys said 'we are not going there'.

"In professional sport there is always an opportunity to manipulate the laws and that opportunity could have presented itself.

"But we did not go there and I think it is a tribute to Warren that he honestly expressed that. Warren Gatland is a brutally honest rugby coach. He is a very serious thinker and he tells it as he sees it.

While on the other hand ...

The former England coach Dick Best has told the BBC he is amazed Gatland did not cheat, as it goes on all the time in the sport.

... says it all .

Dil - 18 Oct 2011 20:07 - 332 of 412

Good God!

The 'media darlings' can't even beat Aussie reserves. Even England with all their issues can beat them. Warburton has a lot to answer for for even putting himself into a position of getting himself sent-off.

Never cheered for an Aussie side before but I have to admit it was a pretty good feeling.

Dil - 21 Oct 2011 10:13 - 344 of 412

Sooo, if you're celebrating 4th place then I genuinely feel sorry for you.

Dil - 21 Oct 2011 12:20 - 356 of 412

I would have settled for fourth dealer before the tournament began. The way we played was a bonus and yes we lost three games by a combined total of 5 points showing that we were only let down by some average kicking ....

Er, a loss is a loss 'm afraid Dil irrespective of how many players are on the field, the ref, or how many points you lose by!

At the end of the day the only top ranked team Wales beat was a struggling Irish outfit and you lost to S Africa; France and Aussie. As i say, if you want to sing and dance about that then fine. Maybe your standards have reached that low....

We're disappointed cause we didn't win the World Cup which is a bit of a different goal!

Any nation that has a player sent off in a World Cup match who is then portrayed as a hero has serious identity issues.

:-)

What are the odds on Andrew going sooner rather than later.

Fred1new - 25 Nov 2011 10:23 - 396 of 412

I don't think the English team should have been allowed on a NZ pitch.

Hear they are "tinking" of going on strike for more money!

A "gentleman's game played by "English ruffians".

ptholden - 25 Nov 2011 14:03 - 397 of 412

Sooner hopefully.

I wonder why it is that English National teams have a habit of blowing their toes off time and time again?

I guess it's not just the English, the Dutch & French have certainly experienced some serious issues in the past.

Curious

Cipriani kept current English standards swinging low today.

Looking forward to the Welsh v Oz game.

Last game for Shane which is almost as sad as him not being English. Glorious entertainer on the pitch and will be missed by this Englishman.

robertalexander - 03 Dec 2011 22:08 - 401 of 412

Nearly cried when he scored that try with the last play of today's game. a great servant for Welsh rubgy and rugby in general. Diolch Shane

We lost, but we had the best acrobat.

What a final 10 secs.

Shane, Thank you for you flair.

This thread is quiet. I suppose all the England supporters are in church praying before they play Wales at Twickers.

Wales for Triple Crown!

How many points are Wales going to beat England by?

Should be a game to watch.

Fred1new - 25 Feb 2012 17:55 - 409 of 412

I wish Wales wouldn't tease England so much.

Had me worried for a few minutes.

Very exciting game.

Perhaps, England was a little unlucky. But they certainly played better than expected.
