Graphene circuit's wireless promise

The promise of faster, cheaper and more efficient wireless devices has moved a step closer.

Researchers at IBM have demonstrated the most advanced integrated circuit made of wafer-scale graphene - often touted as a "wonder material" that could revolutionise electronics.

Graphene circuits could allow mobile devices to transmit data loads in a much speedier manner.

Details have been published in the journal Nature Communications.

New high this morning.

Juzzle - 18 Nov 2014 09:15 - 5 of 38

Tumbling again. Lost half its value in the last 8 weeks.

AGM might end up as a profitable player in this new field - or might not. For the timebeing I have included it on my downbets thread.

I am a fan of graphene - and I look forward to buying shares in whichever UK company looks likeliest to benefit from its production and use. AGM might be among them - in which case I'll switch my bet :-)

cynic - 18 Nov 2014 10:05 - 6 of 38

an exceedingly dangerous and illiquid stock ......

7.5% spread
pathetic volumes
blocks of 1,000 shares only

Juzzle - 18 Nov 2014 10:39 - 7 of 38

Yep - it can move just as fast the other way ;o)

cynic - 18 Nov 2014 12:40 - 8 of 38

well you and your pals enjoy yourself with this one ...... assuredly not for me as it's far too easy for the price to be manipulated

Juzzle - 18 Nov 2014 13:06 - 9 of 38

The company hosted an Investors Site Visit at its premises yesterday. Today we see a big fall on big volume. Coincidence?

cynic -- I agree, it is dangerous.

cynic - 18 Nov 2014 13:15 - 10 of 38

hasn't it just, though of course if you take out the 15p spread, then the notional profit is not so great, nor the number of shares held as a short likely to be very many

Juzzle - 18 Nov 2014 13:24 - 11 of 38

The spread varies between 7.5% and 5%, and sometimes narrows to under 3%. Offputting unless the expected moves comfortably exceed that.

IGAS has a similar recent chart but at least the spread there is sub-1% making it a more comfortable one to trade. I currently hold downbets on both but both could easily bounce - which is why I ratchet my trades, placing them in lots of minimal stakes and banking them along the way.

cynic - 18 Nov 2014 13:29 - 12 of 38

but because the price is controlled by just 4xMM, it can be manipulated very easily ..... 5/7% is far too wide for trading purposes, especially as blocks of only 1,000 are on offer, though one can usually buy/short more ..... however, you need your fingers x'ed when you want to close the position, even if you are dealing live

Juzzle - 18 Nov 2014 14:18 - 13 of 38

Yep. The MMs can so easily walk this one up or down - and back again.

Applied Graphene Materials reports positive preliminary findings following independent performance testing on graphene reinforced polyurethane coatings using graphene produced by the group. The performance testing was undertaken by a globally recognised independent coatings expert.

Polyurethane coatings are used in a wide range of industries including automotive, aircraft and general industrial coatings.

Although the extensive test programme is continuing, the initial results demonstrate that low loading levels of the group's graphene nanoplatelets substantially enhance the scratch resistance and ultimate tensile strength of a polyurethane clearcoat, and critically with minimal impact on transparency or colour. This opens up the route to further development for commercial applications in numerous high performance paints and coatings.

Applied Graphene Materials will be sharing the findings of the test programme with its Coatings Industry partners and also engaging with other interested parties when at the European Coatings Show in Nuremburg, between 21 April and 23 April.

This company caught my eye this week because of the Graphene dress being sported in the Trafford Centre.

588a0d54c46188af128b467d.jpg

There is also a huge article in this week's Money Week about what an amazing material it is with all its uses etc.

As the shares are languishing it might be time to get in. We are all looking for thew internet revolution aren't we. All it needs is the right kind of excitement! :)

Other shares are available - Haydale for example.

I have bought both.

10% up today

niggle - 30 Jan 2017 09:59 - 18 of 38

The Money week article seems to have caught folk's attention this morning. Plus the MD bought 14500 late Friday at 1.38. No idea why he waited so long tbh.

HARRYCAT - 02 Nov 2017 10:56 - 20 of 38

Any thoughts on this one skinny? Directors buying today, but doesn't seem to be doing as well as VRS.

skinny - 02 Nov 2017 13:36 - 21 of 38

Sorry Harry - I haven't followed these for a while.

HARRYCAT - 02 Nov 2017 13:40 - 22 of 38

They had a fund raising last month at 36p, so seems they are a bit strapped for cash.
Not one I have followed either, but they seem to be struggling compared to VRS in the same sector.

Applied Graphene Materials' board remains pleased with the progress that the group is making, shareholders at today's annual general meeting will be told.

Chairman Bryan Dobson will say: 'The board remains pleased with the progress that the group is making towards the commercialisation of its products and proprietary technologies; funding customer collaborations and joint development activity as well as continuing to target further production orders.

'Following on from our initial production orders the business secured additional production orders in 2017. Whilst the magnitude of these orders is not large, they represent important milestones in the development of the company.

'The number of active engagements increased significantly in the year and currently stands at around 100.

'Targeting further additional production orders remains the greatest ongoing priority for the Group, as we focus on converting these additional opportunities into production orders.

'Following the equity raise in October 2017, the group is well funded as it seeks to capitalise on these opportunities.'

Adrian Potts, Chief Executive Officer, commented:
"The business has continued to make considerable progress during the year, particularly in the coatings sector where we are starting to see some real commercial momentum.
Having invested significantly in developing our understanding as to how best to exploit the benefits that graphene has to offer, we are now beginning to see this investment come to fruition, with the focus very much on converting the 120 plus commercial engagements into long term supply agreements, many of which we are unable to disclose due to confidentiality agreements.
The announcement by JBL that they are launching a graphene enhanced product in the near future represents the successful completion of their testing programme. Although the launch is likely to be slightly later than originally anticipated this represents an important milestone for the business. The launch of our Genable® product range combined with our test results earlier in the year has been well received across the coatings sector and this has enabled us to accelerate a number of programmes. Nowhere is this more evident than the work we have done with Britt Tipp, who having completed their in-house testing regime, are now utilising AGM's graphene in coatings for their vehicles in order to provide additional barrier properties.
Our joint composites development programme with Magna is beginning to produce some very encouraging results in a number of potential applications and I remain confident that over the coming twelve months we will be able to report an ever increasing number of customers, who having completed their testing programme are looking to enter into commercial supply agreements."
