Weak oil stocks drag FTSE down, sterling support fades

CC - 08 Oct 2018 14:41 - 11 of 63

FTSE down another 70 so far today. Volume seems thin but I'm not watching particularly closely. Issue seems more like lack of buyers rather than huge selling.

It would be nice if we could have a rally, if only a relief one.

Fred1new - 08 Oct 2018 18:33 - 12 of 63

I am need a packet of tranquilizers.

What I am taking at the moment seems like a Polo sweater.

Good morning. FTSE being called up about 10. Let's see if we can manage not to fall 75pts by the close of play

CC - 09 Oct 2018 13:13 - 17 of 63

At half time FTSE down by 50... I've seen it all before but it's annoying me now.

I know when the bounce comes it will come out of nowhere but in the meantime the continual fall on low volumes is doing my head in.

What does blue indicate on the stockwatch page?

I have forgotten!

CC - 10 Oct 2018 09:47 - 24 of 63

Hurrah Fred. It's going to take more than a couple of hours to repair the losses I've suffered in the last 3 weeks but at least LLOY and RBS are going in the right direction.

There's a strong buy program running on LLOY which looks like it's going to run all day. I assume there must be one on RBS too although i can't identify it.

Today looks quite hopeful. It seems the Brexit talk news is starting to trickle through to the market.

All of which leaves me wondering whether I should top up my SIPP and put some money in Aviva or continue waiting for an even more stupid price.

skinny - 10 Oct 2018 10:44 - 25 of 63

Definitely the banks 'turn' today!

CC - 10 Oct 2018 11:26 - 26 of 63

Makes a change. Interestingly someone is off-loading a load at 250 on RBS and it won't go higher until the iceberg is completed.

I'm not sure why I so happy today. RBS and LLOY going well but the rest of my portfolio still seems under pressure although there are green shoots of positive possibilities

Fred1new - 10 Oct 2018 11:51 - 27 of 63

CC.

I have some cash in my pockets wishing to splash in the market, but Thank God I have lost the key of the wallet.

Prepared to watch a while longer.

CC - 10 Oct 2018 12:24 - 28 of 63

I'm wondering how long LLOY can stay on the uptrend line. Can we make 60 today?

I'm breathing alot easier today. Looking at L2 the buying on the banks is consistent and doesn't look like the manipulation I've been seeing for weeks. Fingers crossed anyway.

skinny - 10 Oct 2018 13:35 - 30 of 63

Some common sense!

Belfast bakery did not discriminate in gay cake case, UK court rules

CC - 10 Oct 2018 16:58 - 31 of 63

Another 90 down today and with 10 minutes to go I was actually doing ok. Didn't end that way of course.

It is my view there is a large party getting margin called here. Perhaps a small/mid sized cap fund. Or perhaps something has gone very wrong at one of the algo funds and other stuff is being sold to keep margin under control.

Some of the trades I'm seeing especially on low cap stuff doesn't make any sense.

Claret Dragon - 10 Oct 2018 17:36 - 32 of 63

2018 for FTSE 100 not been good.

Where we started in January around 7600 and in the mean time some huge swings.

Hopefully US markets hold up. If not could get really messy.

skinny - 10 Oct 2018 21:06 - 33 of 63

Plop - currently 25560 -3%.

big.chart?nosettings=1&symb=djia&uf=0&ty

CC - 10 Oct 2018 22:22 - 34 of 63

And still going. Now 25460. I am not surprised at the fall but the speed of the fall.

I guess it won't look pretty tomorrow, although FTSE only being called down 110 at 7040. I guess it will have to take out stops at 7000 if not overnight than sometime tomorrow.

Claret Dragon - 11 Oct 2018 06:05 - 35 of 63

200 dma looks like the next port of call again on DOW. Bounced off there previously.

FTSE futures currently down 112, DOW -315!!

CC - 11 Oct 2018 07:43 - 39 of 63

Morning all.

Today could be a rocky ride. FTSE being called down 95. Doesn't seem so bad looking at Dow

Stan - 11 Oct 2018 08:13 - 40 of 63

Morning all, Ex-Div day as well.

CC - 11 Oct 2018 09:26 - 41 of 63

Ok, I'm calling the bottom here. Of course if I'm wrong I shall continue to call the bottom over and over.

The price of oil might get in the way of my prediction!

skinny - 11 Oct 2018 09:58 - 42 of 63

Yes Brent dipped below $82 earlier.

In case you've been away this week! :- European shares hit 20-month lows as Wall Street rout sparks sell-off

skinny - 11 Oct 2018 12:05 - 45 of 63

Its been a right old rout for many of the AIM big guns (FEVR blue).

Chart.aspx?Provider=EODIntra&Code=FEVR&S

CC - 11 Oct 2018 12:19 - 46 of 63

Whilst I don't have anything like FEVR or VRS the impact on the rest of the market has been pretty clear. My low cap stocks are struggling and NMD in particular has fallen on almost no volume. PCF just as bad today.

I perceive (lol) anything could happen yet with AIM, whilst I think the wider market will stabilise here. Oil worries me as it could easily fall 20% from here applying further pressure on stops on unrelated stocks.

It's mess. I see the market cap of VRS is still £182m and TERN £30m. AIM may have far further to fall yet although maybe a dcb for now

Good morning. FT is being called up. How long will that last on a Friday? Who knows - Dow is crazy enough to go anywhere

Stan - 12 Oct 2018 08:25 - 53 of 63

Morning all,

Shorters supposed to be closing their positions for the w/e...”supposed” being the operative word!

US earnings announcements for today

Stan - 12 Oct 2018 09:41 - 56 of 63

Sounds good on the face of it Skinny for you Lloyd’s owners.

CC - 12 Oct 2018 10:33 - 57 of 63

Nice. I am long LLOY today from the opening auction at 58.89.

The speed of the rise seems to be accelerating. RBS on a mission as well.

As for the dog Aviva - it's stuck for the moment

Fred1new - 12 Oct 2018 12:18 - 58 of 63

CC,

I think you are holding BARC.

If not have a look.

Reasonable yield can be viewed with an optimistic "gullible" eye to have a triple bounce.

With support ar 167.

Otherwise, it is an awful chart.

I have a large holding which is kicking me below waters at the moment.

Check it out.

CC - 12 Oct 2018 16:47 - 62 of 63

Screwed up my intraday trade on LLOY. Watched it go to 59, then held on and held on. Closing it at 58.15 in the closing auction and I suppose a profit is profit.

My portfolio looking a bit better today, although been one of the worst weeks I can remember in a long while.

Apparently I get some RBS dividends today. The first of many I hope.
