David Anderson (CROCODILE)

Bullshare - 25 May 2004 10:53

It is with deep regret I have to inform everyone that Dave Anderson(Crocodile) sadly passed away last night in his sleep.

This is a complete shock to all his family and friends, therefore can I ask everyone to respect their privacy and not phone his home etc.

David was the most likable and open person I have ever met and a huge friend of mine and MoneyAMs.

Whatever I post will never come near doing justice to this great man, so I will simply stop here.

Mike

20.13 I have had a few brief conversations with David's family today. Despite all that has happened they have managed to briefly log onto MoneyAm and seen the numerous postings. I know they are moved by the response. The family are in the process of organising David's funeral but matters are slightly complicated with the Bank Holiday weekend. I will post more in due course when I have some more information.

26 May :I have received many many e-mails with offers of help and offers of sympathy. Many thanks for all these and apologises if I have not been able to reply but I will get round to it. I will also make sure those that have asked me to pass on any messages to Davids family get sent on.

In the meantime I know many of you are wondering what happened. At this stage it is not for me to go into details but suffice to say it is of a natural cause and totally unexpected.

David had withdrawn a little from the site over the last few weeks as he felt he wanted to devote more time to looking after Maria who is very poorly. Although he did not post much in the day I do know he was constantly logging on. He still continued to burn the midnight oil to create each day traders thread and he would spend about 15 hours each weekend creating the Weekend/Monday thread.

16.34 26/May Have come off the phone from Rachel(David's daughter). Today is not an easy day for the family, I think they were so busy yesterday that today has been harder as it has had time to sink in. We talked about Funeral arrangements and Rachel mentioned that they could not book anything yet but will let me know as soon as possible. She mentioned once again about all the postings which they have been busy reading and thank everyone for all the kind words and thoughts. They will arrange a public funeral as they know a lot of people would like to attend.

A message from David's Family:(posted on David's website Snappytrader.com)

David, 'Croc', 'Crocodile'. A snappy and gentlemanly trader indeed.

Our Croc was so very charming and professional and always conducted his business in a way whereby he always put much more in than he expected to take out.

Farewell Croc, old friend. I am honoured to be numbered among those who have known you and been able to benefit from your help.

Sue, who has also experienced your kind and classy hospitality, joins with me in offering our deepest condolences to your family.

He was much too young to go.

Dead Cat Bounce - 25 May 2004 13:16 - 61 of 321

What awful news. As so many have said above, David was a very nice man, which is not a common thing these days. His contributions to this BB and to ADVFN in the past were outstanding. I met him several times at ADVFN and MoneyAm social get togethers, and we spoke sometimes on the phone. Two years ago at the ADVFN Xmas lunch I was lucky enough to win "Thread of the Year" prize and mentioned when collecting my award and thanking advfn for it, that I only got it because Croc had got it the year before and they didn't want to give it to the same guy twice in succession, so the award was rightfully his not mine. Perhaps we could commemorate him with a permanent annual "Crocodile Trophy" for the thread or post of the year?

He will be missed for his contributions and for being such a genuinely nice guy.

My condolences to his family.

'Croc was so very charming and professional and always conducted his business in a way whereby he always put much more in than he expected to take out'

Had a lovely day also at his course in the Conservatory where I learned most of what I know about trading.Further to that, when I was in trouble with my trading at times,he would give generously of his time to help me out of my difficulties and regain my confidence.Like everybody in this virtual community I will be indebted to him forever.
My sympathies to his family and close friends.May the Lord have mercy on his soul.

Here is a link to the MoneyAM article about Croc, which was written by Jerry Lacey and recently printed in Shares Magazine.

The title of the article is

"MoneyAM user takes on the stock market robots"

http://www.snappytrader.com/robot.htm

It is perhaps as well to bear in mind David is tragically no longer here to maintain the phenominally brilliant and useful SnappyTrader.com web site.

I am proud to be able to call David a friend.

He joined the BBs about the same time as me and I first met him when I was travelling through Dudley many years ago and I decided to call into his Computer Business to say hello and put a face to the name.

Out came this big warm expansive man who welcomed me and in that moment I knew this was a man I liked.
Over the years I have met him at many of the BB dos and talked often to him on the phone about the Markets and life in general.

I have watched him develop into one of the most accomplished and respected traders on the BBs.
Always willing to give generously of his time and experience to all both in trading and his computer skills.

A more generous man I have yet to meet.

When I was in hospital he came to see me to offer comfort and set me up with DVDs to pass the time.

Over all those years of posting on the BBs I have never seen him get involved in the pettiness and trivia.
I have never heard him speak badly of anyone - always willing to see the best in all people.

Without going into detail he had many problems to face but despite all he kept a happy and positive approach to life. It is so sad that it should be now snatched away from him.

Early this morning I was thinking I had not spoken to David for some time so I phoned to see how things where and the sad news hit me.

Since then I have been unable to concentrate on anything. The markets seemed an irrelevance.

I busied myself in the garden. There was a small shrub in a border that has never taken and I had intended to throw it out but no I decided to pot it up and I will nurture it as a memory of a friend.

I will miss you David.

THE COUNT--->A REALLY NICE GUY

Martini phoned me earlier to pass on the very sad news. I was gobsmacked, and Martini didn't sound too good either.

I met David on various functions and he was always a warm and friendly guy. I think the posts above are also a testament to how helpful he was to those who called on him.

He passed away at such a young age too.

My sympathies to his family.

See ya mate. A true gentleman!

l am very sad to hear on the grapevine of Croc's passing, someone who was very kind to pass on comments, help and who would be around forever to thank one day.

a belated thanks steve

Treblewide - 25 May 2004 19:59 - 107 of 321

Croc has been in my head all day.......not been able to think about much else....we had a high profile falling out as most of you know...but what you dont know is he phoned me on numerous occasions to tell me to come back to the boards...no malice.....no grudges...nothing.....which was most unexpected.......he could have/should have been pissed off about the whole thing
true gent

I will leave it at that.

I have had a few brief conversations with David's family today. Despite all that has happened they have managed to briefly log onto MoneyAm and seen the numerous postings. I know they are moved by the response. The family are in the process of organising David's funeral but matters are slightly complicated with the Bank Holiday weekend. I will post more in due course when I have some more information.

Big Al - 25 May 2004 20:17 - 112 of 321

Very few further posts anywhere after this news broke. I guess many have simply sat reflecting.

Amazing tributes everywhere I've looked today. The admiration and appreciation seem boundless - a very fitting tribute to a man who seems to have been so much a part of all our trading lives. For some of us he was all that we have known as traders. Generous of thought, advice and help at all times.

I'll never forget the "blobs", "squares", "ellipses", etc, etc that have been brought into the daytrading arena by only one man. I'll never forget the man I met on three occasions who sauntered up and asked how things were going for you - if you've never experienced it you've missed something very special indeed..............

.........and it just won't be the same reading those thoughts for the week or day ahead.

I'll miss you, Croc, like many, and life round here just isn't going to be the same.

RIP you Midland Reptile! ;-)

A sad day, throughout which Croc has occupied my mind.

I met Croc once in Edinburgh and we've talked on the phone. Always helpful, and admired by me for his reliability and hard work.

I will very much miss his daily presence.

With sadness, Andy.

Ruth - 25 May 2004 20:39 - 115 of 321

just off the phone to Jules, were both absolutely in shock at this terrible loss, but she said something that was very fitting to croc, the first name most newcomers see and learn from when they started trading was croc, now if there is a better place up there and croc is looking down on us, hede be saying"hey i didnt teach u all about trading for you all to stop " i think croc would want us all to carry on and make the most of what he taught us,
So tommorrow, lets do just that, in memory of croc, i know its difficult to concentrate under the circumstances, but i will give it a good go.

Crocs course was the first i went on,at his home in Birmingham, and i remember looking at L2 and being horrified, how was i ever going to understand that? croc guided me through it and showed me bots etc,

Like Treblewide i recently had a bit of a run in on the board, not with croc direct, but sort of related, and i too received a very nice phone call from Croc whilst he was in France , and then some really nice emails when he returned,he was a gentleman, always happy to help, like gordon says, no malice, no grudges, will be sadly missed,Thoughts are with his family and his young grandson, They have all lost a good one.

You know we take for granted in life all the things that really matter, it really does hit home when something as tragic as this happens, Croc was far far to young to be snatched away like that, Im not a religeous person, but hopefully there is a better place beyond this life, and croc will be resting in peace.

In the course of today, reading one post after another, the feeling of a
"croc's extended trading family" got stronger. So, amongst us, let bygones be
bygones. It is good for trading, for health and for the soul ... and yes, I think
you would agree that's what croc would have liked to see.

Big Al - 25 May 2004 21:04 - 119 of 321

Ruth

That was my thought this afternoon when no-one was posting. The last thing he'd want was for everyone to stop doing what he had devoted the last few years to. I tried a bit this afternoon, but made a complete hash of it. He'd be dismayed!!

Remember 9/11? He was the first to post he could not trade and take advantage of what was going to be a major negative event.

Says it all.

RogerD - 25 May 2004 21:34 - 120 of 321

Just logged on for the first time today, which is a first for a long time, had a day off trading. Gobsmacked to hear the news. Never met david but felt that I knew him as a friend, had the odd comment between us. Always made a point of reading his thread each day in the morning and logged on during slow times and at the end of day after US closed. Will miss him and his exellent BB. God Bless his family.

Just shows you never know what the future hold, live each day to the full.

Dailos - 25 May 2004 21:38 - 121 of 321

Big Al
Thought of that myself today, we were all watching the news when the planes hit The World Trade Centre, Croc told ADVFN staff to go home and was first to post that he didnt want to trade and profit from the disaster, reading back, i see i was the first to post short this short that etc, i suppose it takes all types to make up this world, a kind gentleman like Croc and a ruthless git like me!
Will always remember the last line of all his e-mails "drop in for a cuppa anytime your passing" never took up the offer, something i will always regret.
Done a whole lot of thinking about a lot of things since the news, will give it a few days before making any changes but dont expect to spend so long in front of my screens in the future, dont need to trade and lifes too short it seems.
Cant believe how i feel about someone i've never met being taken away, if there is a god, one question..why?

Paulismyname - 25 May 2004 21:43 - 122 of 321

9/11 was a moral issue Alan even in terms of trading, I think David did the right thing then, and I believe we are doing the right thing now...taking time out to reflect.

Martini expressed things quite well when he said sod the markets and went away to cultivate his garden...perhaps if we all thought more about each other then the world would be a better place.

The thread over the roads epic is called "rise" and it is part of a fitting permanent memory to David and the decent way he reacted under extreme pressure, I have the original stored on my hard disk.

I know that life must go on and I am sure that is what David would have wanted, but there is no harm in taking stock of our feelings and of our loss

RogerD - 25 May 2004 21:46 - 123 of 321

Dailos- Like you I don't need to trade to survive. Todays tragic event just re enforces my comments on the board just the other day. I don't mind sitting in front of a computer during winter months, but, when the sun shines it's no contest. I just can't be asked! Lifes too short.

Big Al - 25 May 2004 22:18 - 124 of 321

Dailos - you said it all - a true gent and quite amazing how his passing has made us all feel.

Paul - we'll all mark our respects our own way. Just spent much of the afternoon reflecting on what Croc would think and wish. My guess was he'd like things to carry on. I did a bit and then did something else - thoughts very far from the markets I guess. That was the real point.

;-)

Christ, I'm gonna miss him.

Seymour Clearly - 25 May 2004 22:27 - 125 of 321

I haven't been able to think about anything else today since I heard the news. He helped me organise an ADVFN traders meet in Darlington which was the first time I met him. I invited several of my friends along and they were all completely bowled over by David's enthusiasm and approachability and have, like me been stunned by the news.

Even though we only met twice, I, like everyone else on this board considered him a true friend.

One of life's true gentlemen - and as has been said before - in this dog eat dog world there aren't many you can say that about.

Rob.

Sign of the Times - 25 May 2004 22:28 - 126 of 321

Howard0181 - 25 May 2004 22:31 - 128 of 321

I did not trade this afternoon because I just could not get my head into trading but I agree with Ruth in that I am sure that Croc would want us all to get back to normal Wednesday.

I learned so much from Croc in the early days of my day trading. I told him that I was richer and wiser from his efforts.

Like Ruth I had a problem a month or so back which did involve Croc. He had the decency to call me from France and try and resolve some issues I had. I was and am so pleased that we resolved these problems.

Its a terrible loss. I am still numbed by the news.

I thought I would share that with you all.

Just back from a few days away & totally numbed to hear of Croc's passing.
Never had the good fortune to meet him but have been a regular fan of his thread for some 2 years now & really valued his understanding of the market & experience, not to mention his readiness to help anyone out & comiserate if things went wrong.
Most of us would like to cross over in our sleep but usually this only happens to the good & deserving which he is. May he rest in peace

Jules - 26 May 2004 01:04 - 135 of 321

not able to sleep.
Have found today particularly impossible. Dave was a true inspiraiton in his ideas for trading and his attitude to life. I felt priveleged to know him. I can see him saying 'it is a good long ... or I am short.... or the 10 day intraday.... ' Whatever the case, he would want people to continue to execute his love, research, and enthusiasm of trading. He spent so many years making trading information accessible to the layman, sincerely willing them to succeed in their new found endeavour. I am forever grateful to him for leading me in the right direction and for being forever patient and kind when asking impossibly dumb questions.
As Vasey said earlier, Dave would like to be remembered as 'a man who had never done anybody a bad turn' That he didn't.
You will be remembered in that way and more Dave. You have been taken away for too early . May you rest in peace.

MightyMicro - 26 May 2004 01:25 - 136 of 321

Jules:

I know how you feel. Some of our mobile software user interface was designed to pass what we called here "the Croc Test" which ensued from a short conversation I had with him at the GNI trader event a couple of years ago. Always very incisive. And of course, his input to the Terminal screen "if I could see just four level 2 screens at once" and so on.

I have received many many e-mails with offers of help and offers of sympathy.

Robb - 26 May 2004 08:22 - 139 of 321

I feel like I've come in to the office this morning and there's a big desk sat empty. I pass it every morning because like most here the traders thread was how you start the day, sometimes say good morning, sometimes don't, but always stop by at some point. Feels very odd to have such a constant presence no longer there.

Just got the news yesterday evening, initially tried to believe that this was some sort of prank, but its not april 1st and people don't mess with these sorts of stories. Coincidentially, I was thinking about David on Monday morning and how he was doing, then I saw his post where he saw a window and was expecting the ftse to move higher, and of course it did. Snappy trader was doing what he loved best.

This is devastating news for anyone who knew him. I've known David since all this buttelin board stuff began for me in the late nineties. While many fell by the wayside, he was a constant and one who developed and prospered in this environment, grabbing with both hands the opportunities thrown up by this new medium.

Nor would he boast about this new found success, humility and a deep sensitivity to others and innate shyness were characteristics. But he was also warm, helpful to just about anyone, witty, engaging company and above all innovative and entreprenual. His contribution on these boards over the last number of years is truly immense, and this thread is a testimony to what us ordinary folk think about it.

I've had the pleasure of being welcomed into their home on several occasions by David and Maria, often arriving late at night and at short notice. This was never a problem for David, he was always working on something new to get an edge in the market, and only too happy to explain it. A chapter has been closed and it deeply saddens me. I hope his family get the strength to pull through this trying time, and can take great pride in what he has achieved over his short life.

May he rest in peace

I've been a bit numb since Martini called me yesterday. We're all going to miss croc terribly.

A short while back I was having a drink with croc in the wee hours and he was telling me about how wonderful life was, how fantastic his friends were, how fulfilled he felt and how he was enjoying himself so much. So animated, so full of life, and that infectious joie de vivre that for me defined croc.

There are few who have helped so many people to work towards their dreams and ambitions. I've spoken to so many people and they all tell of how croc made them feel special - not only by freely helping them with whatever they needed, but also by actually making time for them. How can one man make so much time for so many people in one short lifetime?

He always promised me a lock of his hair to use as a good luck charm when I traded. Sadly ....

My thoughts are with croc's nearest, particularly his wife, daughter, little baby grandcroc of whom he was so proud, and those few lucky enough to be counted among his closest friends.

Farewell pal.

One of life's true gentlemen, and an inspiration to hundreds, maybe thousands.

Rest in peace.

I have been away for a couple of days and received a call from Martin a couple of hours ago. This was not the Martin I usually have great fun with. I was confused and concerned - and then he dropped the bombshell.

Like Martin I used to go over to Dave's shop in Dudley - we'de put the world to rights, discuss what this that or the other stock could/should be doing, drink tea, have a laugh. We both posted a bit.

Dave moved on, sold the shop, became more and more devoted and committed to analysis of the market. He decided to share the stuff he was learning with his 'mates' on the BBs. He didn't need to - but he loved doing it. His knowledge and insight into market activity deepened - he discovered, for himself - by incredible observation - a new world of bots, piranhas, blobs etc etc - which he could have easily kept to and profited from himself. He decided to share that with his 'mates' on the BBs.

Not only was Dave a truly special trader he was also a very special human being - and I am truly, truly sad that I didn't make that 'phone call or last cup of tea in the last couple of weeks.

But I know there'll be one waiting for me when I next see him ........

Malcolm

All my love to Rachel, Marie and all those who will always be close to him - he will always be with us - in spirit if not in body.

I have only just come across this news having been busy away from the screens. Made 1 quick post last night but didn't stop to look at the top of the BB where this thread resides.

What a shock. Like others here, I first met David in his Dudley home with the fantastic views from the back garden. I travelled 120 miles to attend a trading day back in 2000 with about 6 others. I saw him at various ADVFN bashes in London and am now at this moment typing this message on a Trader PC that I purchased from him in July 2002. I remember it well. I travelled 120 miles and for the whole afternoon he put the finishing touches to the PC as I watched making sure it was fully functioning and in optimum condition.

Without doubt, because of this generosity he extended to all who were interested, he was a true diamond. One I am glad to have known.

As someone else has said, news like this can change one's own outlook on life and how we approach it.

RIP David.

Really pleased that a lot more posts have appeared on Traders thread. Some of them informative:)Im a realist and know it wont last, but if we can get lurkers etc on board it would become the Community it used to be.
I hope as a Agnostic, that there is somewhere Croc can see all this?
If your there.Miss you cock:-)

Bully

I think thats a wonderful idea.

Marriner - 27 May 2004 21:52 - 168 of 321

I'm still a bit of a lurker I'm afraid & can't claim to have known David but Croc's thread was/is essential reading & I was always very grateful for the unselfish effort. Reading through the posts above I can see how well loved & respected was David; it seems we shouldn't underestimate the positive impact that a kind, caring, decent & honest man like David can have on others, - plenty of food for thought when looking in the mirror......How sad that it often takes such tragedy to make us stop & think.

Condolences to David's family.

M.

Big Al - 27 May 2004 21:59 - 169 of 321

Mike,

It's become very apparent two days on that David was deeply loved, admired and respected...........

........and will be for a long time yet.

If it helps his closest then I can't think of anyone objecting at all.

We will miss your work Croc - you were truly inspirational

Technet - 28 May 2004 00:20 - 171 of 321

I've known Croc since the early days of ADVFN when Mike approached a group of us to start a financial revolution.

Together we ran the two most popular threads of all time on the ADVFN PBB.

He managed to exploit areas of the Internet way before anyone else and did so whilest thinking like a 20 year old who had just been given a new toy.

I will miss his innovation, kindness and dedication but most of all his drive for life, technology and the buzz.

RIP Croc ... the Financial BBs will never be the same without you.

Trader2 - 28 May 2004 20:28 - 172 of 321

Very very sad - he was always finding new technologies and trading techniques to add value to so many of us. He will certainly be missed by me. Bye Croc.

Hilaryb - 29 May 2004 00:00 - 173 of 321

I have been speechless since I heard, my sympathy goes out to all of David's family. I feel privileged to have learnt so much through David's dedication to this site along with the commitment he had in sharing his knowledge. He was and will remain a great inspiration to so many for years to come.

Not reading how normally he would be in the fridge for a cold beer by now this Friday evening will never be the same but David I Raise my Glass to You, as so many will,

Rest In Peace....

HowardSomerset - 29 May 2004 00:10 - 174 of 321

David's Funeral service will be held at St Benedict Biscop Church, Wombourne on Friday the 4th of June at 1pm, followed by burial at Gornal Wood Cemetery.

There will be a wake afterwards at The Vine Public House Wombourne (this is a few doors down from the church above). Friends old & new are most welcome.

Just come back, logged on, and now this.

Dave, you've been an example to me
of what a great human being a trader can be.
You've been generous with your time and your hard-won wisdom
and you were a pleasure to meet that one time we met in April.
You've been encouraging and helpful
and I miss you already.
You have closed out your position,
now be at peace.
Thanks.

DocProc - 03 Jun 2004 14:02 - 181 of 321

In life we all have many, many different types of relationships with each other.

Wherever we all are, on what can be compared to a complex 'relationship tree' of branches, twigs and leaves, we are aware of little pieces of information concerning the interaction of the relationships of numerous others on our 'tree'. We often wish to fill in the 'missing blanks' too, because we are most curious about them. We are also involved with and can communicate with each other in many diverse ways. Some of them are public and some of them are private.

Some of the interconnections on 'the tree' are of no concern to those who are not privy to the really close and really personal types of relationship of just the one person, the key player, in all of what is and can be, a most complex scenario.

Perhaps in all of this, we should remember to be extremely polite. Because now, most importantly, is really the time for grief.

Spaceman - 03 Jun 2004 14:13 - 182 of 321

This is to Croc from all the BBers everywhere.

Just returned from abroad and logged onto this sad news... I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Davids sudden passing. Having met David on several occasions, I can only agree with the many kind words said in his memory. I can honestly say that, in this business, no one has helped me more than Croc.
I will miss him as I know everyone else will. My thoughts go to his family.

God bless you David.

axdpc - 05 Jun 2004 19:38 - 192 of 321

We give, we take, we give, we take.
There are net givers and there are pure takers.
Some do it openly, some do it quietly.
Some are appreciative, some are otherwise.

David, IMO and personal experiences, is a consistent, big giver, a gem.
An increasing rarity in this age and time.
In any age and time.

Big Al - 04 Nov 2004 11:10 - 194 of 321

Very sad

DocProc - 04 Nov 2004 18:54 - 195 of 321

Yes. Very sad if true. That was one hell of a web site!

There was a brilliant WYSIWYG HTML editor on snappytrader.com. Indeed, I used to use it frequently, particularly for my eBay Descriptions as it gave them a bit of added polish.

Does anyone know whereabouts on the Internet there is something similar?

PS. Some time ago, I did save the HTML 'Source code' from the above editor on Croc's site but I don't have a web site of my own on which to put it.

If anyone would like this code, to say, put on their own web site or whatever, please e-mail me through MoneyAM.

Melnibone - 04 Nov 2004 19:11 - 196 of 321

I used the HTML editor as well, to post my P&F charts.

Don't know where there is another online one, but if you've
got the OpenOffice.org office suite, (it's free), it has
a built in HTML editor.

I found out how to use it yesterday, when I needed to post
the S&P P&F chart and found that Croc's site was, sadly, no more.

If you have it, save as HTML, then click on 'View' then 'HTML-Source',
and it does the same as the 'View as HTML' button that was at the
bottom of Croc's editor.

Hope that helps.

Melnibone.

May 25th is my birthday. It was Martini who, two years ago, got it into his head to give croc a call, having not spoken to him for a few days. He phoned croc and learned the awful news. I got a call shortly after from M, and remember thinking 'he's remembered my birthday' before he broke the sad news. I remember the initial denial and then the cloud that came down over my 41st.

me too hence i'm looking on the bb for his thread...

He and I were great fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He created a thread when she died after series 5. Just wish I'd had the magics like Willow to bring him back like she did for Buffy.

I often am thinking about croc although I only met him a couple of times in the flesh. One thought occurred to me the other day was about the sudden epilepsy he developed while in Nice. Was that misdiagnosed and his illness not epilepsy at all, but a symptom of the brain problem that eventually killed him?

Anyway my thoughts are with you today croc

My trading has really gone downhill since Croc's death - psychological, probably, but he was so helpful and his early-morning comments gave me a real start each day. The only glimmer of good since then is that I was able to meet Mike, Gausie, Martini, axdpc and a few others at Croc's funeral. Good to be able to put a face to the name, Gausie!

Time flies but David's words of wisdom live on. Fond memories this Bank Holiday, Croc. xx

ExecLine - 23 May 2009 19:25 - 234 of 321

I remember David telling us that he first found out about his illness, when he woke up in a French hospital. Apparently, he had fallen out of bed and 'Madame' wondered where on earth he had disappeared to.

They gave him a good check up in hospital and I vaguely remember him mentioning to us how he found out he must have been having epileptic seizures every 15 minutes or so and, unbeknown to himself until he had been checked out, that this must have been been happening to him for years.

I liked and admired David as a businessman. He loved to create strong relationships with everyone and he did this by first proffering out a few of his many benevolences. Thus, if you ever spent some money with him then everything about you having a business relationship with David Anderson was generally going to be Win/Win. You usually got much, much more than you ever paid for. Be it some private tuition or a computer product of some sort, then he gave you some added value to go with it.

Does anyone remember his fantastic web site?

There were loads of tools on it. These were not just for Stock Trading. There was all sorts of stuff. One of the tools was an HTML Generator, which was of course, online based. I used it lots of times to prepare some pretty fancy 'jazzed up' Ebay sales descriptions.

And of course, when Croc went then so did all the help he gave out too.

Yes, some lovely memories. RIP Croc. :-)

The comments already posted from recent years about Croc the man, still hold good. I was fortunate to attend one of his trading courses at his home in the west Midlands and there met his wife. Both generous and helpful in life, and the trading hands on live course was and still is valuable. I wonder what he would have made of the markets to-day?

David was daytrading behind the counter when a customer came in for a graphics card or something similar. Several brands were on offer and the guy cud not make his mind up which one to buy and kept on and on with questions. Meanwhile Daves trades were going ballistic and, to get rid of the guy he said he said he cud have the card for nothing.
The guy still would not leave because he wanted to know what the"Catch" was.

Hear hear!

Martini - 25 May 2014 14:35 - 283 of 321

Indeed, but 10 years it seems only yesterday.

Greystone - 26 May 2014 09:51 - 284 of 321

The Croc lives on for a lot of people... :)

klal - 26 May 2014 21:22 - 285 of 321

A rare gem - Croc cannot be forgotten.

Roselea - 27 May 2014 06:58 - 286 of 321

Is it really 10 years since you left us Croc, so sadly missed by us but never forgotten.

Spaceman - 30 May 2014 11:59 - 287 of 321

Wow 10 years, had a glass of red to toast David on Suday evening.

10 since Croc left us,certainly will not be forgotten.

ExecLine - 30 May 2014 14:09 - 290 of 321

Croc watched the 'bots' in action on Level 2 and told us a bit about how he had analysed some of the techniques and settings to do with how they worked, what to look for and how to use them to your advantage too.

I admired him greatly and felt he was an interesting 'businessman', who was good at getting one thing to lead to another. He did seem to always use a 'Win/Win' approach in his relationships with his friends and contacts.

jj50 - 30 May 2014 15:50 - 291 of 321

10 years that have flown by. Pity those divi plays don't work as well
as they used to. Always grateful for the advice received and still afloat
so something must have sunk in.

Still remembered 11 years on.

Mega Bucks - 25 May 2015 17:56 - 293 of 321

Remember visiting him about a week before the tragic news, amazing that its been 11 years.

klal - 25 May 2015 20:03 - 294 of 321

Just a few weeks ago while clearing out old papers, came across a printout from one of Croc's Monday posts - it was about the importance of the two day trend channel of the FTSE. Filing it away to make sure I never lose it. You will never be forgotten, Croc.

CC - 25 May 2015 20:03 - 295 of 321

Such a genuine man who had seemed to have endless amounts of time to help others

Haystack - 25 May 2015 22:57 - 296 of 321

13 years, eh? Time flies!

Yes. I remember David fondly. He was such a very nice bloke.

prodman - 26 May 2017 06:57 - 304 of 321

Sorry ExecLine but I make that 13 years, and yes he was a nice guy, I first met him at an InfoTrade (or Etrade) do up London, that's going back a few years as well.

Bullshare - 30 May 2017 14:37 - 305 of 321

Cant believe its now 13 years :-(

Big Al - 31 May 2017 08:00 - 306 of 321

Time indeed flies. Undoubtedly one of the nicest and most generous people you could meet.

Martini - 02 Feb 2019 13:51 - 307 of 321

Thought I would remember crocodile once more before the BB closes. Hey Mike I still tell the story of “3 crocodiles and a funeral” RIP

Dil - 02 Feb 2019 20:29 - 308 of 321

He helped me fix my computer once and gave me some invaluable advice at the same time .... 'stop kicking it when it makes funny noises as it really won't fix the problem'.

If your up there reading this croc , I took your advice and just thump it these days.

RIP croc and MAM

CC - 04 Feb 2019 10:06 - 309 of 321

Although I did not know him well I had the pleasure of meeting croc about half a dozen times. Even in those brief few meetings he made an impression on me. His contribution to MAM and the investor community in general as shown on this thread is immense.

I've attached a photo of David below. David passed in May 2004 and my best guess is this was taken in early 2004 (possibly very late 2003). David is third from the left. May he never be forgotten.

E*Trade, are they still going?

kimoldfield - 04 Feb 2019 10:23 - 311 of 321

I wish I had known him, he was obviously one of a rare breed of decent human beings! I would have taken note of his advice 'stop kicking it when it makes funny noises as it really won't fix the problem', had I done so my computer would not be broken nor my toes!😃

CC - 04 Feb 2019 11:04 - 312 of 321

E*Trade (who are a US broker) withdrew from the UK after the 2008 financial crisis. Their product in the UK was white label Saxo so it didn't make much difference. I used Saxo until just a few months ago for CFD's

Stan - 04 Feb 2019 11:18 - 313 of 321

Thanks CC.

Mega Bucks - 04 Feb 2019 16:12 - 314 of 321

Met David a few times at his home, the last time i think it was just a few months before we heard the tragic news Croc RIP.

Big Al - 05 Feb 2019 14:39 - 315 of 321

Great man.

No more words required.

groovyjean - 05 Feb 2019 16:50 - 316 of 321

Like many others I enjoyed meeting Croc and learned from him. Another gent who helped me but whom I did not meet in person was you, Big Al. It was always good to hear from you, thank you, I shall miss MAM

PlanB - 05 Feb 2019 19:04 - 317 of 321

Bought my first digital camera on a recommendation from Croc.
Somehow trusted his judgement over all the others.

Big Al - 05 Feb 2019 22:23 - 318 of 321

Hope your doing fine, Jean. I doubt I could ever have helped as much as David helped so many, but thanks.

little woman - 08 Feb 2019 08:38 - 319 of 321

MB I think it was a few weeks before his passing as if I remember correctly, it was when met you at his home.

I have many fond memories as he was such a lovely person.

Bullshare - 08 Feb 2019 11:32 - 320 of 321

Sorely missed. What an amazing gent. I was lucky to have gone into business with him for a short time (TraderPC), we had some fun!

Quite a few of us BB'ers were able to attend his funeral and we left a very apt flower tribute from all the MoneyAM Bb'ers.

But as with everything to do with Dave, life was not simple but always amusing, catch me or Martini over a beer one day and we will tell you a yarn or two about the funeral :-)

jj50 - 14 Feb 2019 19:25 - 321 of 321

Very cool croc tribute photo, just like the man himself! He was always there if you needed him, encouraging and putting a positive word in. Helped many of us in the early days of MAM when computers were much less user friendly. Certainly helped dig me out of a few holes! Never forgotten.
