Caldwell Invetments for recovery (CDW)

ainsoph - 12 Feb 2003 14:15

I hold a few shares in Caldwell Investments looking for a recovery ..... textiles and Household goods inc Nina parosol products ..... not a trade - low cap of sub 2 million

03.02.03 announces that on 1st January 2003 Graham Haselden was appointed Finance Director.

anyway - a big cross just gone through @ the mid - 623K @ 11.5p

Current price 11/12p

thestockbuyer - 12 Feb 2003 16:15 - 2 of 55

Kiss of deathg on this one then eh????

aspex - 13 Feb 2003 08:42 - 3 of 55

Q1. Will the 2nd half profit be enough to go +ve for the year?
Q2. Whither Ninaclip?
A. The company is not over extended now and any profits will be beneficial to the quite small mcap.
The company owes Wootliff quite a bit after the earlier buys and I would think that if profits are on the way, he may take it private before the price gets too rich

ainsoph - 13 Feb 2003 08:56 - 4 of 55

Found this from a few months ago

11.09.02 announces that it has launched its new Suncanopy product "NinaSun" at the SPOGA Show in Cologne last week. Subsequent to the interest shown at the show, Caldwell hopes to enter into discussions during the next few weeks with two leading manufacturers of outdoor furniture for the hotel and leisure industries. Caldwell has high hopes that these discussions will lead to significant orders. However, production lead times mean that it is unlikely that deliveries for any such orders would be completed in the current financial year. The Directors believe that the large potential market for the "NinaSun" product will provide exciting opportunities for the Group.

News is very thin on the ground but I am expecting them to be positive and take your point about a potential mbo - H2 is in april

ains

aspex - 13 Feb 2003 09:08 - 5 of 55

But they also said in December
"...Caldwell has entered into discussions with manufacturers of outdoor furniture for the hotel and leisure industries. Caldwell has high hopes that these discussions will lead to significant orders. However, production lead times mean that it will not be possible to deliver any prospective orders in the current financial year... The company is delighted with the interest shown in the NinaSun and continues to believe that the large potential market for this product will provide exciting opportunities for the Group. At the same time, we expect the Group's existing underwear and Nina parasol activities to continue steadily."
Means - The usual slow take up of a new product means expectations get ahead of reality again.

ainsoph - 13 Feb 2003 10:32 - 6 of 55

I guess ..... I always discount on the timing - directors usually get too enthused and minimise problems .... but when it comes right we could be talking significant profits - with a cap of less than 2million at this time

ains

ainsoph - 25 Apr 2003 09:12 - 7 of 55

Positive action taken over the last few years has finally started to show
through. The result for the year is a small pre-tax profit of 72,084 (2001:
loss 65,566).

UNDERWEAR BUSINESSES.

Germany

Despite continuing difficult trading conditions in Germany our Nissel subsidiary
managed a further year of improvement and once again made a positive
contribution to the Group's result.

United Kingdom

Underwear in the UK continues to be a highly competitive activity. We have
therefore taken the decision to focus totally on the importing side of our
business. Regrettably, this will lead to the closure of our manufacturing
activity in Bolton at the end of June 2003. Following the closure, we intend to
relocate to premises more appropriate to an importing, sales and distribution
business. There will be some small redundancy and relocation costs. The above
action will strengthen our business and enable us to give more competitive
prices to our customers.

NINACLIP

Parasols

The 2002 summer season turned out to be less buoyant than we had hoped. A wet
summer throughout Europe affected our sales. However, the Ninaclip parasols made
a positive contribution to Group profits.

Sun canopies

Since the successful showing of the NinaSun suncanopy at the SPOGA show in
Cologne, much time, effort and money has been spent on it's development.

We hope to commence commercial trials at the end of June 2003 and subject to
these being successful, delivery to customers will start November/December 2003.

REVIEW

2002 was a further year of improvement. Germany did well, especially against an
exceptionally poor economic background.

The underwear business in the UK was stable and Nina Parasols had a profitable,
if a somewhat disappointing year.

The NinaSun canopy project is progressing well but is taking longer than we had
hoped, postponing the time when we will reap the benefits of the time, effort
and money invested.

PROSPECTS

The traditional activities of the Group produced a small pre-tax profit in 2002,
and we hope to improve on this performance in the coming year.

The NinaSun canopy will not make any material contribution to Group profits in
2003, but we are hoping for a significant contribution in 2004.

With highly competent executives, motivated employees, excellent products,
quality customer base and strong balance sheet, we look forward to 2003 with
quiet confidence.

GENERAL

2002 was the fourth year of continued progress. I would like to thank my
colleagues and all Caldwell employees, without whom these achievements would not
have been possible.

can see this getting above 30p in next 6 months needs to get some new momentum somehow clearly got directors buying and in profit but needs volume and more exposure to get it to where it should be ?? mkt cap of 3M with forward profits could be 0.5M p/e of six ideal for tippers shares mag are you listening ??

goldfinger - 10 Nov 2003 00:24 - 23 of 55

Im listening Gordon, Im listening. Your spot on, a growth company which is very cheap.

cheers gf.

Soulretro - 10 Nov 2003 08:05 - 24 of 55

I can't understand why it is a growth stock. the fundamentals look good as you have indicated and a patented product. why is it winner, I don't think everyone wants a canopy. plz enlighten me further if you can.

cheers

goldfinger - 10 Nov 2003 08:40 - 25 of 55

Product looks rather ordinary.

See

http://www.caldwellinvestmentsplc.com/ninasun/newwelcome.html

So is there some other reason why this company should grow rapidly?

goldfinger - 11 Nov 2003 10:17 - 28 of 55

I wouldnt go by looks apple, I was thinking that about 3DM Worlwides chunk of hard plastic a few weeks back when Evil K said he thought it was a 10 bagger, I thought the guys gone nutty. Wish Id bought in now.

Dont forget this Nina clip and canopy are revolutionary, the Scandinavians who are very health conscience are buying in the thousands. Its only the mad Brits who 'go out in the midday sun' mad dogs an Englishman etc.

Its a lot easier than putting up a parasol aswell.

cheers GF.

apple - 12 Nov 2003 12:20 - 29 of 55

STILL SINKING.

If it sinks a bit more then maybe I will buy.

17.5p perhaps?

Need to sell something else 1st.

Hoping for TRK to rise on Monday.

Hope it doesn't defy me.

goldfinger - 13 Nov 2003 00:24 - 30 of 55

Apple, yes there has been a bit of profit taking in the last two days but nothing to worry about. Evil was singing its praises again in his last evil cast.

cheers GF.

how much is the patent in USA news worth ???

gordon geko - 09 Mar 2004 17:26 - 33 of 55

66% in four days aint bad and still going not many of you noticed ??

apple - 12 Apr 2004 19:04 - 34 of 55

goldfinger

You were right about this one!

We didn't know if or when they would be granted a patent or that they had applied.

Granted a patent at the beginning of March & the shares rapidly more than doubled.

A fact that doesn't justify such a rise but hey, facts seem to have a very loose relationship to share prices.

How the hell did Evil K know this was going to happen?

tbrooking66 - 24 Apr 2004 20:22 - 35 of 55

this one loks interesting but will they hold their rise? what are the opinions out there?

goldfinger - 24 Apr 2004 20:40 - 36 of 55

Well we had an excelent rise on friday in poor market conditions. Im in these from 18.5p and there is a broker note out giving a lot higher than the present 50p.

I will post it if I can remember where I saw it.

cheers GF

26.04.04 :+9, (59.5) an article in the Express (Sat) reports: the shares rose 8p to 50.5p on talk of new orders for its NinaSun canopy system project. Dealers reckon sales of the award-winning technology will take off next year.

mpw777 - 29 Apr 2004 12:27 - 39 of 55

why no chat comment about this share. i bought 25000 on 6.6.1999 at 26p at that jim slater had a substantial holding. the shares moved down over the years and i still have the shares which now show a substantial profit.
if i had sold yesterday my proceeds would have been higher than today.

why does a bell not ring to tell you the best time to sell?

incidently beware of joining jim slater on a share ship...as he can jump off leaving you on a sinking share. his repeated recommendations for mcalpine shares about two years ago has been a disaster

more information about caldwell please

No chat about this share because we didn't follow goldfinger's advice & buy it.

He was right about it & I was wrong.

Grandma - 18 May 2004 13:19 - 41 of 55

Is Evil now shorting?
Does anyone know?

mpw777 - 18 May 2004 15:57 - 42 of 55

if i recall correctly the shares rose sharply after the company reported that they had sold a small number of parasols to a hotel in south america. the name of the hotel was given and i attempted to track it down on the internet so i could try to have a chat with them . i anticipated that these might have been give aways as i had difficulty in seeing that far distant hotel needing to get the tackle from europe....or an executive could have been on holiday there and agreed the parasols ,with the magic fasterner, be sent.

mitzy - 18 May 2004 16:29 - 43 of 55

Nothing wrong with a business holiday..!

bilbao - 19 May 2004 11:37 - 44 of 55

Evil would not short this one as there insufficient shares available to recover a short position. At the recent lunch with some 18-19 brokers when Evil was present the consensus of opinion was that the shares should reach 150-175 by Feb 2005 dependant on production levels of the canopy reaching 200,000 plus.
The reasoning behind Brazil was discussed. After the US it has the largest number of swimming pools per head of population.

mpw777 - 19 May 2004 12:44 - 45 of 55

i bought a hefty chunk of caldwell shares 25000 @ 25p injune 1999 when jim slater was screaming as to their potential. needless to say for a long time i did not have any profits to woorry about.....until recently.

is jim slater still a substantial holder?

i see from company refs that about 50% of the shares are held by nominees

mitzy - 19 May 2004 13:44 - 46 of 55

Another blue sky day..

Grandma - 19 May 2004 14:22 - 47 of 55

Thank you, bilbao, for your posting. Do you need actual shares to short them? Surely if you "sell" say 10k & then "buy" back 10k it cancels out? (I've never tried it myself!)

bilbao - 19 May 2004 17:03 - 48 of 55

Jim Slater does not appear in a recent list of shareholders, unlikely for him to be in a nominee account.

There has been a lot of activity at Caldwell - brokers appointed - e-commerce sites operational - www.ninasun.co.uk - new orders - new director - press releases -and the price again seems to be moving in the right direction last time this happened they touched 80p will they now pass 100p?
