Anyone following Reflec? (REF)

ROBSON - 24 Jun 2003 16:36

I have read:-

"They have an improving revenue stream, have a hold on their cost base and are selling a product that is by all accounts a must for every film \ photo studio.
Results due circa June 16th, recent product rewards in the US and a stability in the share price not seen in ages ( look at the chart )".

Down today 4.85% @1.27p.

Comments Welcome.

from January's edition of "City Equities"

A Media darling?

A favorite topic on certain internet bullitin boards, albeit with divided opinion, is that Reflec could emerge as a somewhat of a "Media" darling.

Chief executive Peter Smith should take credit for what has been a turnaround situation and the recent figures provide testimony for his case. The recovery provided grounds to raise 1m in November to provide working capital for a more focused set of businesses under the Reflex brand. Indeed "Evolution" is not just a subsidiary, rather a synopsis of what as happened at the Group over the last year. The micro-grinding activites themselves were profitable and cash generative at the halfway stage and are expected to perform well going forward. Meanwhile, Mr Smith has suggested that the Reflective business - engaged in brand licensing in North America - may find itself in need of a partner or ultimately a buyer,as the oppportunities for the illumiNITE fabrics range could not be solely supported by the company's own resources. What is clear from stategic statements is that "focus" and "accountability" have been the new regime's buzzwords and this has allowed managements to decide where financial support should be directed.

The potential ace in the pack is the Media enterprise, which is winning much atention and one or two awards to boot. Whith a international reseller network in place. ReflecMedia is a truly global business and it's Chromatte and ChromaFlex products could provide a more than useful revenue stream for the group in the future. Chromatte has been used by a number of leading film, television and video producers such as the BBC (who pioneered the technology), Disney and Time Warner. Meanwhile ChromaFlex picked up the award for "Innovation in Media" at America's National Association of Broadcasters trade exhibition, held in Las Vegas last year. IN addition Autocue, the eponymous tele-promting business has signed a strategic agreement to use Chromatte in a new "virtual set" product suite.

It has taken some time to evolve, but Reflec really does seem to have a defined strategy and one that could provide tangible worth and enancement to shareholder value.

gordon geko - 17 Feb 2004 13:14 - 3 of 65

seems to be moving up as city equities ofload their stake can also see this holding the price back for some time

harding1 - 17 Feb 2004 15:27 - 4 of 65

just bought 50K shares in REF. They sound a really interesting company and one that will be a target for takeovers in their various groups. Their products are really iinteresting and yet all well connected. Should see some movements i'm sure (hopefully anyway!)

zepher - 18 Feb 2004 10:21 - 5 of 65

Have been a shareholder and follower of Ref since 1998 and made a very good profit in the boom in 2000.Things starting to look up again with a profit now forcast after several poor years trying to market their interesting products. Focus on the award winning Chromatte looks likely first with the joint launch of a new product with Pixel Farm at NAB 2004 in Vegas, and a growing rumour of a prosumer version for the camcorder user.

dick dasterdly - 18 Feb 2004 21:52 - 6 of 65

begining to move as city equities unload some shares at tasty profit

dick dasterdly - 18 Feb 2004 22:12 - 7 of 65

Reflec has put on 29% to 1.225p over five days. On 4 November 2003 it reported a narrowing of its first-half pretax losses and said it expects to make a 'small profit' in the second half, taking its full year loss to an estimated 130,000. The company expressed confidence in its ability to generate growth

from todays gainers and losers on moneyam 18/2/04

zepher - 07 Apr 2004 12:01 - 8 of 65

Tightest spread recently for Ref, good buying volumes at sub 0:9 and only a couple of weeks to the NAB2004 where we are going to see the first joint product launch with Pixel Farm promising a radical impact on working with 3D Tracking and Chroma Key within Broadcast and Post Production, all we will require then is positive forward looking results in July?

zepher - 14 Apr 2004 11:00 - 9 of 65

Reflecmedia will also be releasing(Mattenee)a chroma key plugin for FCP,AER and Premier all a bit technical for me but it sounds OK could team well with the joint Pixel Farm launch at NAB next week?

zepher - 19 Apr 2004 10:51 - 10 of 65

Joint product now confirmed.
Reflecmedia and Pixel Farm plug in together to provide chroma key in seconds not hours(production technique opened up to users at every level)part of three products on display at NAB2004 today April 19th.

Reflec plc

('Reflec' or 'the Company')

Reflec Enters into an Agreement with King Tech Inc of USA and Shanghai

Further to the Chairman's interims statement of November 2004, Reflec has signed
the heads of agreement with King Tech Industry Inc ('King Tech') which will
provide Reflec with a low cost manufacturing base in China and a majority
interest in this company in the USA, a company which sells reflective products.
Reflec will hold a 51 percent interest in the enlarged Reflec USA, and Reflec
USA will acquire King Tech for a 49 percent interest in Reflec USA. Based on the
latest available accounts of both companies, the enlarged Reflec USA currently
has a turnover of approximately 2.2 million. The legal aspects of the
agreements are expected to be completed during March 2005 but trading between
the parties to the agreement has already begun.

The Shanghai King Tech Industry Company Ltd ('Shanghai King Tech') was
established in 2003 by Tom King to manufacture reflective clothing and to
exploit other opportunities as they occur. Under the heads of agreement with
Reflec, King Tech, with its modern facilities, will be the exclusive
manufacturer of reflective materials and products for Reflec. In exchange for
this facility, Reflec will licence its technology to Shanghai King Tech and
transfer some specialised equipment to the Shanghai factory of Shanghai King
Tech. The benefits are that King Tech gains a long term customer, Reflec has
access to low cost production for its reflective products and the two companies
can then seek jointly to exploit further opportunities, especially in China and
other Far East markets.

In addition to the dedicated production facility in Shanghai, King Tech will
develop and provide new clothing designs, enabling Reflec to take new products
to market more rapidly than it can at present. Already this joint approach to
making and marketing reflective clothing has resulted in serious negotiations
with a new client and a significant order is expected soon.

King Tech is based in California from where it distributes and sells reflective
products throughout North America. For financial year 2004, King Tech was
profitable with a turnover of US$1.4 million. Reflec's USA subsidiary, Reflec
USA, will acquire the business and assets of King Tech in return for 49 per cent
of the shares in Reflec USA and it will be responsible for the global sales and
marketing of King Tech's products. By acquiring King Tech Inc, Reflec USA has
re-entered the global market for specified industrial safety clothing, which
will enable it better to exploit the new ANSI 107 2004 regulations in the USA.

Commenting on these agreements, Tom King, President of King Tech, said, 'I have
been involved in the production and selling of reflective materials and clothing
since 1999. Having personally invested in a factory in Shanghai, I am
concentrating on developing it. With Reflec I can now use my modern reflective
production line at maximum efficiency and the economies of scale will be
reflected in the cost to Reflec. This will be enhanced with the technology and
specialised equipment supplied by Reflec. In addition, there is ample synergy
between my reflectives sales business based in California and Reflec USA. I am
confident that we can both exploit further opportunities, especially in China
and the Far East.'

'The signing of these heads of agreement demonstrates the confidence we have in
each other to make these businesses successful.' explained Peter Smith, Chief
Executive of Reflec, adding, 'The low cost production facility will make our
products more price attractive, especially in the USA and Europe and broaden our
range of products. However, the added attraction is the ability of King Tech and
Reflec now have to set up specialised production facilities to meet the needs of
Shanghai's booming industries.'

In addition, Reflec has offered a total of 2.2 million share options exercisable
at 1.25p within the next three years to Tom King and two of his management team.
Tom King will also have a seat on the Board of Reflec USA.

Other Business Opportunities in China
This agreement gives Reflec the opportunity to export its other technologies and
skills to Shanghai. The new business generated, as well as the new business it
introduces, will be split 4:1 in Reflec's favour.

ehall - 14 Feb 2005 09:50 - 15 of 65

I think they probably do according to my sources, they still hold for some clients at least. This is the bit that interests me:
"Already this joint approach to
making and marketing reflective clothing has resulted in serious negotiations
with a new client and a significant order is expected soon."

gordon geko - 14 Feb 2005 10:32 - 16 of 65

ssanebs - 15 Feb 2005 08:57 - 18 of 65

TheLearner - 15 Feb 2005 11:44 - 19 of 65

I'm with you watching closely as I invested initially when around 6.5p and have been trying to buy and return to breakeven ever since. Bought some at .85p so recent increase and good news/prospects will make the nexts few weeks interesting.

ssanebs - 14 Mar 2006 14:02 - 34 of 65

on reflection of the rns yesterday it seems a good 3 year deal and buys on the back of it, good volume of 6m plus so far

zepher - 14 Mar 2006 18:07 - 35 of 65

Could be showing some life, its been a long wait for some decent news, the results are key for me as they should show the trend in profit growth has been achieved. They have turned the corner imo, lets hope management keep a clear focus this time, lots of promise from the Bigglo startup, promise of further contracts + Perseus stake, news of orders from China for the reflective tape would be very interesting. We will see,its a nice change to see a twinkle of light from Ref,long may it continue.
Z.

zepher - 18 May 2006 09:56 - 36 of 65

Further profit growth and an upbeat trading outlook in the upcoming results to give Ref the green light after yrs of stagnation? watch this space...............

zepher - 26 May 2006 10:12 - 39 of 65

Agree, looks like it has found its feet, everything now in place just needs to consolidate with steady news flow and a few more contracts, got to be a re-rating eventually pe now 22.6 and set to fall further:
Z.

zepher - 17 Jun 2006 09:36 - 40 of 65

Restructure now completed, new markets opening up following a move into profit and now some director buying (even if small amounts) must add to the brighter outlook for the co. AGM could help the long awaited move in the sp,broker note or further contract news even better.

CWMAM - 01 Jul 2006 08:08 - 41 of 65

MOVING UP ON POSITIVE NEWS I AM STARTING TO MAKE MONEY ON THESE!!

CWMAM - 04 Jul 2006 12:43 - 43 of 65

LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER GOOD DAY MORE GOOD NEWS!!

parrisf - 04 Jul 2006 20:27 - 44 of 65

I'm holding some shares. Just waiting for northward moves. Bought years ago at 35p and stupidly kept them. So you see how long my wait could be. That's PENNY share recommendations from the Penny Share Mag. Wondering if it would be worth buying some at this time and price.

CWMAM - 13 Jul 2006 13:48 - 46 of 65

MOVING UP AGAIN STARTING TO LOOK GOOD!!

porky - 13 Jul 2006 14:47 - 47 of 65

Sh............ stop shouting cw.

hangon - 22 Sep 2006 11:09 - 48 of 65

parrisf if you don't mind a suggestion...you should buy some more maybe 20% of what you invested originally...to av.dn.......some say you should "never av.dn" but I cannot understand the reasoninig, since shares move about...wherever you buy that price is the same as someone else's av.dn. There is some logic in that you "should have " sold out...but as you are reluctant to establish a loss (for tax reasons you should!)...you can start again at today's prices. They were never worth 35p - it was all hope and millennium markets. IMHO.

+ Now for the present:
Crikes all sells!(=today) and that's about 800k - sure it's not much as cash, but this share is likley to react to an unbalanced book.

Maybe wait until it settles - I don't hold but know of the co and its video-products, which are Good enough (if you want them), but it's a niche market and the clothing is already well-served by 3M and others too in all probability....it's been about the 1-2p range for so long as I remember.

+ To anyone that follows events closely:
Can you point out the Directors and their recent holdings.....I so hate it when Dirs sell just after I buy a stock. I read about the US sale and think this may have upset the Market by creating a diversion....isn't the US (potentially) a really big customer? Just looks a bit odd, to me.

blueman - 22 Sep 2006 17:33 - 49 of 65

It`s a dog parris, don`t waste anymore cash on it.

parrisf - 26 Sep 2006 16:30 - 50 of 65

Thanks hangon! Understand the reasoning but have no funds at the moment. I do read this BB but notice very little activity. This firm seems not to want to grow but I'll keep the shares anyway.

blueman - 11 Oct 2006 17:02 - 51 of 65

Sell of 8,740,000 today at .65p

That is a get out quick call.

hangon - 18 Oct 2006 16:33 - 52 of 65

This looks like a business that has lost the plot - probably a clash of Dirs who hold enough stock to be a nuisance to any progressive actions. Wait on the sidelines for some positive News, today I see a decent rise on just a few grand's worth - but the US deal (Sept06) looks mighty odd to me.
Still a rise is a rise, but even sub-1p I'm not convinced you'd get yr money back too soon. That puts a "Time-Risk" into the equation which nobody likes.

Staying with yr expensive shares has some logic, parrisf, - at least you won't have dealing charges, but I think you ought to establish a tax-loss, then 30-days later you can start again, if you still have the stomach for Reflex.

Do they have a USP? - clearly not, and the World isn't beating a path to their door, either.

gordon geko - 08 Mar 2007 14:45 - 53 of 65

blueman - 08 Mar 2007 16:48 - 56 of 65

REF seems to have made fools of it`s shareholders for many years.

hangon - 02 Apr 2007 13:16 - 57 of 65

CONSOLIDATION looms - watch it!
This is the last refuge of incompetants - desperate to make something bad look slightly good......well, until the next fall.
What this co. needs is Turnover, new ideas and someone at the helm....just name one major order....no?
Well that must be the problem.
Reflective tape is hardly excitiing and without some development buyers will drift towards the lowest cost...I don't see REF as a World-player - or is this all hapening underneath....?
"Consolidation" is really saying it all - expect a further 5-10% fall as some think they can get-out at a profit...then Nothing. . . . much as at present...
Added, from Co EGM notice...
"...proposed that every 50 existing ordinary shares of 0.1 pence be
consolidated and redesignated as one new ordinary share of 5 pence each. Based
on a mid-market price of 0.75 pence per existing ordinary share as at 27 March
(the latest practicable date before the printing of this document), this implies
a price per new ordinary share of 37.5 pence...."
Shareholders will be pleased to know they can get discounts on some outdoor clothing which incorporates the Co reflective material.....obviously restricts you to rail-worker designs, but might be worth having at the AGM to get you noticed!
[ I am not suggesting REF agm's are crowded - probably quite to opposite.]

gordon geko - 17 Apr 2007 14:02 - 58 of 65

I hoping the consolidation helps the price as the newsflow is pretty good as for getting back or making profit on my original investment @ 1.80 ish think that might have gone ????

gordon geko - 27 Apr 2007 10:06 - 59 of 65

Retro-reflective inks and tapes business Reflec (REF) shares firmed 0.22p to 0.985p after it issued an upbeat statement alongside results from its EGM. The company said that full year results would be in line with management expectations, adding that a "significant business development" would be reported in the next few days. The EGM was called to vote on earlier-announced plans to cancel the company's share premium account and consolidate its capital.

looks like its achived its objective as spread down to 6% from about 25-30% last week lets hope we see it gaining some momentum....

gordon geko - 17 May 2007 16:16 - 60 of 65

there were some vague coments in Shares Magazine about REF's potential not sure justifies the rise but very welcome ....

zepher - 18 May 2007 17:13 - 61 of 65

Press conference to follow Serco news may well help the sp to consolidate further in the lead up to results, great comeback today to finish week positive.
Have been with and watching these since end of 99 the turnaround and now the consolidation + new management focus may yet reward those who've kept the faith.
