TRAFFIC MASTER - EVEN MORE CONTRACTS...!!! (TFC)

jules99 - 09 Jul 2003 08:52

Last night I was just thinking about buying into traffic master...what happens I wake up to find they soured yet again on yet another contract win with mitsubishi...enough convincing of an old time Stock market favourite i say...!

I decided it's now or never and piled in...My own opinion is Traffic Master will have soared much further by the year end, especially after the 3 recent contract wins with major Car manufacturers, there will be a number of institutions following now, even more so i expect... correct me wrong one day, (my own thoughtss only...) but i trust TFC will soar past 1.00 mark down the line, do your own research as this was a classic growth stock success story, and one I think is back on track..

Do your own research as I spent the night thinking over Traffic master, this morning I convinced myself...I think i've found the one...lol..

(still bitter after missing Gresham however...sigh....)

may a nice day...jules.

djbinlid - 09 Jul 2003 09:35 - 2 of 71

how many more contracts are in the pipeline? its probably a bit like buses, i'm gonna wait a while and see how it goes over the next 4 weeks or so - but i'm with you on this one - could be even better by the year end - imho.

jules99 - 09 Jul 2003 11:43 - 3 of 71

if I knew how many more contracts TFC had in the pipeline I'd be either mystic meg with facial hair...or i'd be da sitting Boss...lol...

This is a ten bagger IMO, thats if you've missed gresham already that is...It didn't take much deciding on this one, i knew i wanted it...lol...

When the rest catch on, and papers and analysts start tipping it, thats when the fun begins...

Good to know you know value when you see it DJBINLID...

This share is not the flavour of the month.

Results were good. Potential seems great.

There is a small altercation with ITIS but that doesn't seem to amount to much.

What Am I missing? I thought this share would be approx 100p at the moment.

Trafficmaster to supply Smartnav to Nissan Motor
AFX
UK smallcap opening - Trafficmaster driven higher by Nissan contract news
AFX

LONDON (AFX) - Trafficmaster shares moved higher in early deals on the back of contract news.

The automotive software group said Nissan Motor has chosen Smartnav, its satellite navigation system, as an approved accessory across the majority of its model range from all the 231 dealers in the Nissan Network.

By 08.05 am Trafficmaster shares were up 3 pence at 76-3/4.

LONDON (AFX) - Trafficmaster PLC said Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd has chosen Smartnav, the company's advanced satellite navigation system, as an approved accessory across the majority of its model range from all the 231 dealers in the Nissan Network.

This is the sixteenth car manufacturer to choose Smartnav in the last eighteen months, Trafficmaster said.

Nissan will also be offering its customers Smartnav's two optional services; Safe Speed, a safety camera alert that warns drivers via a series of beeps when they enter a monitored zone, and RAC Trackstar Plus, a GPS based stolen vehicle tracking system.

driver - 05 May 2004 15:03 - 7 of 71

The reason this share is not going any where is because some of us have done the maths, in there last but one statment TFC said that they were 400% up on sales selling 2106 units in the first quarter and on coarse for selling 28000 units for the year, that totals 28000 * 600 = 16+m
Taking into account that they made 500k profit last year from 36m revenue, if they did the same again for this year adding the new 16+m revenue, the results for 2004-05 should read 1m profit if they are lucky. The M/Cap is to high and a fair price for the share is 20p to 25p.

bella - 06 May 2004 10:41 - 8 of 71

Driver

I have read your analysis of Trafficmaster with interest. However, your figures appear to focus solely on the sale of the units. The service Trafficmaster offers to drivers is not a free service but on a subscription basis. I also understand that they also receive royalties. The introduction of detecting speed traps is a 'must have' for people relying on keeping their driving licenses to make a living. Also the tracking of stolen vehicles is also a 'must have' on expensive cars nowadays. I personally can't see how they can lose with 16 car manufacturers taking their product. A consistent revenue stream is every investors dream share.

driver - 06 May 2004 11:19 - 9 of 71

Bella

I take your point about the other stuff that Trafficmaster does and the subscriptions, this all cost money the add min, the call centres, and the production costs of the units, that is why they only made 550k profit from 36m revenue. I am not saying they are not going to make money, they are not going to make enough to support there present M/Cap they need to be selling 250000 units a year not 28000.

bella - 06 May 2004 12:02 - 10 of 71

Driver

Thank you for responding. However, my understanding is that they have already invested in their infrastructure, hence 500k profit you refer to.
The introduction of two new services will add value, and can only be viewed as a positive move. Call centres are popular with companies due to their low cost. Their revenue stream will increase dramatically this year with the units they have sold and increased services from subscriptions and royalties. With 16 car manufacturers installing their units, low interest deals on new cars being so readily available, 250,000 units per year sold (excluding subscriptions) is easily achievable in my view.

driver - 06 May 2004 16:28 - 11 of 71

Bella
I agree 250000 is possible may be in the year 2030 thats why there M/Cap is to high now, at about 90 times earnings instead of say 12 times were it should be.
Bella you either work for this company or you came in to late and you are trying to convince your self, I got in at 29p and out at 85p thank you very much Trafficmaster.

This site is for that purpose, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of a particular company, and exchanging news. However, getting personal towards someone because he/she has a different view from your own is not constructive or useful. We will have to agree to differ on this one.

Trafficmaster in 'remarkable turnaround'

Published: 13:30 Thr 16 Sept 2004
By Douglas Bence, Companies Correspondent
Email to a friend | Printable Version

Car navigation system specialist Trafficmaster has turned the law of supply and demand upside down; instead of creating a demand and supplying it, the company arranged the supply and now has to create the demand.

It was tough persuading car manufacturers to install its Smartnav system. Until Ford agreed earlier this year, every success inspired a trumpeting press release.

With Fiat this week following BMW and Mercedes taking the total number of manufacturers to 19, Smartnav is now widely accepted with 11,000 sales in the six months to 30 June against 3,000 in the same period last year.

But now the product is available, people have to be made aware of it. The result is a pilot radio campaign in North Yorkshire with Team Saatchi ads performed by Stephen Fry.

Trafficmaster lifted sales by 14% to 17 million in the half year against 14.9 million in 2003. Last year's loss of 800,000 has been turned into profits before tax of 3.5 million.

Housebroker Teather & Greenwood said the results confirmed a 'remarkable turnaround is underway' at Trafficmaster, which it rated a 'buy'.

Smartnav is one of four group products, the next most significant of which is Teletrac, its United States fleet tracking business which now operates in 16 cities and tells businesses where their vehicles are and what they are costing to keep on the road. Unit sales of its black boxes increased 37% and revenues rose 22% to $14.2 million in the six months against $11.6 million last time.

The other Trafficmaster arms are its traffic information business, which supplies O2, MG Rover, Citroen, Orange and the RAC, and RAC Trackstar, a stolen vehicle tracking system.

Figures for the half-year reflect the early settlement at a discount of a Teletrac debt which produced additional income of 2.1 million. The company is now debt free and has a cash balance of 4.3 million.

Trafficmasters driving force since the company was formed in 1988 has been chief executive David Martell who stands down today.

He dreamed up what he called intelligent transport system and got a license from the government to commercialise data from a network of sensors on motorways and trunk roads.

The management team is now led by chief executive Stuart Berman and finance director Nigel Bond.

They are pleased with todays figures and say Trafficmaster will get stronger as the environment for motorists and commercial vehicles gets worse. They are comfortable with market forecasts of up to 8 million in profits before tax for the year. Trafficmaster shares (TFC), particularly weak yesterday, were 1.25p higher at 88.75p. They have risen from 69p at the start of the year.

Trafficmaster eyes first dividend
By David Blackwell
Published: September 17 2004 03:00 | Last updated: September 17 2004 03:00

Trafficmaster is planning a capital reorganisation that might lead to the payment of the first dividend since its foundation in 1988.

The move followed a return to the black at the traffic information company last year and the announcement of operating profit of 1.2m for the first half to June 30 compared with an operating loss of 307,000 previously.

Pre-tax profit was 3.5m after an exceptional gain of 2.1m for the early redemption of $15m (8.5m) of bonds held at Teletrac, the US fleet management division.

The repayment will save 800,000 a year in interest charges. Stuart Berman, who took over yesterday as chief executive from David Martell, the company founder, said the results reflected progress in all four operating divisions - Smartnav in-car navigation, Teletrac US fleet tracking, UK traffic information collection and stolen vehicle tracking.

"We will now focus on the maximum possible market penetration," said Mr Berman. "We are on track for sustainable profitability."

Total sales rose 14 per cent to 17m, driven by Teletrac and Smartnav. Teletrac sales were 22 per cent higher and its system now covers 4,500 vehicle fleets in 16 metropolitan areas, including New York and Los Angeles.

Fiat yesterday became the 19th carmaker to offer the Smartnav navigation system in the UK. Separately, Fiat Targa agreed to take a licence on Smartnav technology for application in the Italian market.

Mr Berman said Trafficmaster would reap a royalty for every user in Italy. "This opens another market and signals our intention to sell more licences overseas."

Earnings per share were 2.65p (0.59p losses). The shares rose 1p to 89p.

FT Comment

* The development of telematics has been slow and tortuous, and - like most technology - has cost enthusiastic investors a lot of money. But Trafficmaster has battled through and now appears to be the first telematics company to make the breakthrough into sustainable profit. Other companies in the same field - such as Minorplanet, Cybit and Itis - continue to make losses. Excluding the Teletrac bonds gain, Trafficmaster profit for the full year is expected to be about 3m, rising by another 5m next year. That puts the p/e for 2005 at about 15 - tempting for a company with no debt, enjoying good growth and on the verge of paying its first dividend.

Trafficmaster Drives into Profit

By Louisa Nesbitt, City Staff, PA News

Road information group Trafficmaster today said demand for more sophisticated in-car navigation systems helped it move into the black at the half year.

The group posted interim profits of 3.5 million against losses of 800,000 last year, after the number of systems it sold more than trebled.

Satellite system Smartnav helps drivers plan routes using spoken voice instructions and has recently been upgraded to help motorists navigate around toll roads and congestion charge zones.

Trafficmaster, which was formed in 1988 and employs around 330 staff, also announced today that Fiat had become the 19th UK car manufacturer to offer the system.

The Cranfield, Berkshire-based firm is now preparing to launch a smaller, less expensive system, which will be rolled out from next month.

This latest version of Smartnav will cost 90 and will be two-thirds the size of the current 120 model.

The system includes a black box, usually fitted into the boot of the car, which is connected to a monitor on the dashboard. Car makers offering the technology in the UK include Rover, Mercedes, BMW and Peugeot.

During the six months to June 30, 11,000 units were sold compared with 3,180 in the same period last year.

Trafficmaster has been updating the product and recently introduced Smartnav Touchscreen, which allows customers to enter routes without contacting its call centre.

Growth was also strong at the companys smaller US division, where the system is branded Teletrac. Sales at the arm increased by 37% on last year.

Chairman Colin Walsh said: As the business continues to develop and our products gain market acceptance, we believe we are well placed to continue our profitable growth.

The company said it expected to step up its marketing over the coming months as it continues to develop the system.

Shares rose 1.5p to 89p today.

This thread has dropped into oblivion. It now appears that the price is following it. I don't believe that the reported sellers in September could have foreseen "Trafficmasters runs into snarl-up" as reported in Saturday's 18/12/2004 Daily Telegraph

Bridgewell Trafficmasters House broker. drop pretax profit from 3.1 million to 2.2 million following TFC reporting problems with Taiwanese manufacture of its touch-screen leading to thousands of units be thrown away. Some of retailers not able to get stocks for up to 7 weeks and advertising is poor.

I assume that this is yet further delays to decent returns. I would expect further price drop to-morrow. The question is it still a reasonable long term hold.

Fred1new - 19 Dec 2004 11:22 - 36 of 71

I thought this might be useful extracted from Telegraph.
"================================"
Trafficmaster runs into snarl-up
(Filed: 18/12/2004)
Trafficmaster, the company that promises its in-car navigation technology will end the misery of traffic jams, admitted yesterday to serious production difficulties. The shares fell 7p to end 57p, a year low.
Problems started in October when the Taiwanese manufacturers of its touch-screen Smartnav product received a batch of faulty glass. Trafficmaster's chief executive Stuart Berman said: "Thousands of these units had to be thrown away."
Mr Berman insists that working products are now being shipped to the UK but some retailers have been left without any for up to seven weeks. This has meant that Trafficmaster now expects to sell 27,000 units this year three times the volume achieved last year but less than the City expected.
As a result, Trafficmaster's house broker Bridgewell has cut its pre-exceptional, pre-tax profit forecast from 3.1m to 2.2m for this year.
The company has also failed to advertise its product enough, at the same time that competitors have been appealing to gadget-hungry Christmas shoppers.
Trafficmaster's system can only be bought and installed via car-dealers or specialised retailers.

TFC is nearing its 52 week low.
Have they solved the problems they had recently? If they have they must be undervalued. The Trafficmaster site says it has an agrement with Chevrolet to offer SATNAV across all models, fitting as standard on one.Standard fit contracts have grown already & could become the norm.
Does anyone have any info on where this could go.

Investor fined over bulletin board abuse

Jill Treanor
Wednesday March 2, 2005
The Guardian

The Financial Services Authority has handed out a 15,000 fine to an investor who used an internet bulletin board in an attempt to boost the share price of the technology company Trafficmaster through "dishonestly obtained" inside information.
In levying its first fine for misusing a bulletin board, the City regulator said the investor, David Isaacs, had seen information about the firm while visiting an acquaintance's house. The acquaintance - referred to as Mr X by the FSA - worked for Trafficmaster at the time of the offence in the summer of 2003. Mr X has since left for unrelated reasons.

Mr X worked for Trafficmaster and received minutes of management board meetings. Mr Isaacs memorised the minutes of the August 4 meeting after reading them on Mr X's kitchen table. He also saw the September 8 minutes.

The FSA said Mr Isaacs posted information about forthcoming announcements of new deals for Trafficmaster on the bulletin board of the stocks and shares website ADVFN.com, under the pseudonym Diras.

David Mayhew, acting director of enforcement at the FSA, said: "Internet bulletin boards can offer a legitimate and valuable source of publicly available information to investors. But when an individual inappropriately obtains and discloses relevant company information that is not generally available, through the internet, then this will amount to market abuse."

According to Companies House, Mr Isaacs is a "business consultant" at Diras Limited. He could not be reached for comment last night.

The FSA said Mr Isaacs had cooperated with its inquiry and admitted the offences. He was not a person "authorised" by the FSA. In a decision notice outlining the fine, the FSA said: "The imposition of a penalty for market abuse is a very serious measure and the FSA recognises that, as an individual, the impact on Mr Isaacs is likely to be significant."

The FSA said that Mr Isaacs had bought 28,387 shares in Trafficmaster in three tranches for a total of 11,499 between July 18 and August 8. He posted messages on the ADVFN website on September 3, 10, 12 and 18 and bought further shares on September 5 and 8.

Stuart Berman, Trafficmaster's chief executive, said bulletin boards should be more tightly controlled. He said Trafficmaster had a high proportion of retail investors on its register and was quite a volatile stock, where 4% movements could be "commonplace".

Trafficmaster's Smartnav wins new deals with Mazda, Hyundai, extends Peugeot
LONDON (AFX) - Trafficmaster PLC said it has won new agreements for its
intelligent satellite navigation system Smartnav with Mazda Motor Corp and
Hyundai, and has extended its relationship with Peugeot SA.
Mazda will include Smartnav for the first time as standard for all retail
customers of the Mazda6, following the success of the special edition Mazda6
Zugaro including Smartnav.
Hyundai will make Smartnav a standard feature of its new Santa Fe SUV,
launched later this month.
This follows the previous success of standard fit programmes on the Sonata V
and Trajet MPV models.
In addition, Trafficmaster said Peugeot has extended its commitment to fit
Smartnav as standard on Peugeot 407 vehicles until the end of 2006, following on
from the standard fits in the 407 saloon and SW estate models announced in
November last year.

mazda 6 and peugeot 407 are big sellers, we are talking in total maybe 50mil in sales for TFC, I am expecting the NU news to filter to the market on thursday, there is a rumour that the reason the TFC are tight lipped about the NU negotiations is because NU are making an offer.. maybe its an offer we cant refuse

Kivver - 03 Apr 2006 22:32 - 50 of 71

eggbert - 27 Jul 2006 12:00 - 53 of 71

Keeps on ticking up nicely.

Tfc seem to be looking for big contracts.NU and the latest Ryder deal in America could produce big sales which would change this company completely.

Should be strong until results in September.Next stop 50p.If it creeps up to 60p and results are better than expected be ready for a big jump.

Falcothou - 31 Oct 2006 07:44 - 60 of 71

Possibly because director Stuart Berman sold 412308 + shares on 19th. Oct. and others have followed suit, it has always been very volatile though

sportbilly1976 - 24 Apr 2007 10:15 - 63 of 71

Bollinger bands are very close now too and the SAR indicator is predicting that the next stage will be upwards....historically when it has risen, it has risen quickly - will stick my neck out and predict 100p within a week of upward movement and break from 70p.

colombo - 24 Apr 2007 11:11 - 64 of 71

how do you arrive at that? it just looks like it is trading sideways to me.

DSTOREY9916 - 24 Apr 2007 21:44 - 65 of 71

sportbilly1976 - 24 Apr 2007 10:15 - 63 of 64...Totally agree never seen Bollinger Bands so tightly squeezed. Predict breakout to the upside with price target of 90p min following long term trendline.

AndyH78 - 25 Apr 2007 10:38 - 66 of 71

Colombo, it is trading sideways somewhat.

However you'll notice from September onwards it creates higher lows each time it falls, forming a trianglur pattern.

Triangles are know for breaking out spectacularly as they approach their apex.

The tight bollinger bands and declining volume (another sign of a concluding consolidation pattern) indicate that the breakout should be very soon.

colombo - 25 Apr 2007 11:18 - 67 of 71

AndyH78
Thanks for explaining that, won't we need an update to spark the breakout?

AndyH78 - 25 Apr 2007 12:22 - 68 of 71

Dunno, charts often breakout before news, whether its insider dealing, leakage, or people just buying in the hope of news I don't know, but it doesn't surprise me anymore how often charts make big breaks before news.

Trafficmaster slips - MoneyAM

Trafficmaster said this morning that its pretax profit narrowed to 1.67 million pounds versus 1.8 million pounds last year.

The company said it is confident the business will continue to grow profitably, particularly in the business services division in the current financial year.

It said the growth will be supported by demand for its proven fuel saving capabilities and the good progress of company's partner programmes.

The company said it has delivered robust performance in the first half as the group capitalised on the opportunities generated by the tougher economic climate. Chairman Colin Walsh said: 'Business customers in particular are recognising that our Fleet Director product solutions are delivering real savings on running costs and this is translating into profitable growth for Trafficmaster.'

Revenues for the period ended June 30th 2008 rose 13% to 26.8 million pounds while gross profit jumped 11% to 15.7 million pounds.

The company has not proposed any dividend.
