BATM - Advanced Communications - bargain hunting....worth the consideration? (BVC)

jules99 - 15 Jul 2003 23:36

Not that many people follow this board, However i thought I'd bore you folks anyways...At 20p a stock not expensive in my opinion...BATM's again i thought were a consideration, Quite rightly in the heedy old days I just couldn't afford them outright!

At only 20p the're worth it I think...cheap for the trolly...

Any holders, or followers from the heedy days...?

jules.

jules99 - 16 Jul 2003 13:15 - 2 of 61

up a little again at 21p to buy now..

jules99 - 15 Aug 2003 11:17 - 3 of 61

Mentioned Bvc's a while back and didn't see much response, in fact at one point I thought the MM's were playing with Bostick Glue, with the price sitting at 18/19p for weeks...well they weren't and at last..................it's moving....!!!

Up 15%...at last...phewww!

21p to buy..

It is now up almost 18%...Has to get past the 25/26p mark...before a real recovery is seen, I know There are many large Inst Investors who have been purchasing BVC, this will come to light in the next few days if and when they have to declare 3%+..

Hope ur right hoggie...

jules99 - 18 Aug 2003 23:27 - 6 of 61

Opened up far better today and gradually closed marginally higher at 22/22.5p...the start of something new...needs to surpass 25/26p mark to convince me however...till then I'm holding tight...at least there was no bubble gum...

Are you expecting a further move Jules, I have been for some time and have sat on the shares patiently. I'm tempted to sell now.

jules99 - 02 Sep 2003 16:13 - 11 of 61

Angi,
I bought at 18/19p hold a fair amount, in my honest opinion the earth has not moved yet, I expect it to move further in the coming weeks, It's been quiet Tooooo long, results were not as bad as expectations henced moved up to 23p at the time, think 30p-40p is my near term target, after which I will reconsider the market events demand/supply etc, considering I'm only up 3p at the moment..!

Just my own thoughts, It may continue the rise further after todays unexpected activity...I used to dream of owning BATM's when they rose magnificently in 1998/9...ahhh bisto...lol...

draw?period=3M&action=draw&startDate=02%

Jules, I think Ure right (4 wot its worth) this looks like a classical (mmm) chart break-out scenario. The shares have been climbing nearer and nearer to 20p, a resistance level which has held for over 2 months, and at each attempt to move above that level they seem to have been pushed back down.
However, the fall at each attempt was successively smaller check graph above or is it my imagination?

Theres a tussle going on between buyers and sellers - we can see trading volume shooting way above normal on 3 occasions, which indicates, a confirmation of the significance of the move about to be made.

Also - once this price has moved above resistance at (Id hazard) 20p, it would have to re-test that level as support, a new floor for a new trading range.

The share price may temporarily ease back below 20p, but fresh buying should lift it back up again. According to a Mr. Louth - it is at this point, we can say the chart breakout is confirmed, and which should mark the purchase point for those who want to be sure the move is valid.

I just thought your comment and BATM fitted almost perfectly as an example of what Id just read time will tell Ill B keeping them eyes peeled! Forgive my impertinence I just got excited (annoying misplaced enthusiasm), when I saw BATMs graph and the, wot I consider to B declining resistance! I could B completely WRONG!!

(Check : http://money.msn.co.uk/investing/Insight/SpecialFeatures/MultiplyYourMoney/chartbreakout for his article)

jules99 - 02 Sep 2003 17:36 - 13 of 61

ANGI - Patience is a virtue someone once wrote...

..It's funny but I know the graph/volumes for BATM adv by heart...probably because movment has been little to nothing for so long...but this will change accordingly, a near term contract news by the co would bring in huge interest from all angles, speculating year end price targets etc...

For the momnet Im happy to forget about the money tied up in BATM...I would want to see my money at least double down the road...3p rise is not going to buy me a motor...!

Anji how long you been trading?
Jules99

Red Underwing - 03 Sep 2003 11:55 - 14 of 61

Angi - it depends on where you bought in.

If near the lows, it might be sensible to take some, or all of your profit in the near future.

If you bought around 10p, then you could think about taking out your original stake & hold the rest for free!

Although I do believe there is more to come in the light of today's contnued rise on the back of yesterdays high volume!

Sounds like Jules might be the impatient one!
Let him wait for his new motor!

Jules - I don't trade, I invest. I missed the long run down but have since been to a couple of seminars on spreadbetting and would like to 'dabble'. I haven't yet found the courage as I don't know enough and am not naturally foolhardy. I try to follow all I can on crazyposts but am finding that it's confusing, selling too soon, trade and invest are different and I'm trying to marry them. However, it is educational and very entertaining as long as don't lose too much money.

What are your latest tips?

angi - 05 Sep 2003 17:20 - 19 of 61

Jules

I bought (and sold) Serco years ago and always thought it a great company but it came down massively with all the others. It will be good to have a money making company again.

RTD, I bought these years ago and lost heavily and have been in and out recently. Only made small amounts to try and get my money back, and I know that's a silly idea. I've just received a report from City Equities and the history is grim but they have a lot of blue chip clients and if the economy does improve as the market suggests they have some contracts in the wings that may well be signed.

This report says that the results will be bad. Perhaps this will cause a big drop and a good buying opportunity for long term.

Batm are stuck today. Another chance to get in?

Ive found some predictions for BVC results at:-
http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/z/b/bvc.l.html#cover

But they look as though they have got it all wrong!
BVC are not likely to make 16.24 next year! I suspect the decimal point needs a little adjustment & having looked at other companies, using the same site, it could be USD & not GBP! Even though they say otherwise!

You will doubtless note that 100% of the analysts agree! Thye always will ,except after a heavy night in the local winery, that might just be because there is only one.

I would add, that there seems to be a lot of news about increased activity & contracts in the telecoms world particularly in the US & Canada but I'm not sure if this will benefit BVC.

But browsing the BVC webs site might convince you one way or another.

These two seem to be the same site.

BATM has equity stakes in Lynx Photonics, Shiron Satellites, and Eldor Computers. Shiron Satellites specializes in the development and manufacturing of VSAT systems and high-speed Internet satellite modems. Eldor Computers is Israel's premier integrated solutions provider. BATM also fully owns BT&T, a leading provider of telecommunications testing equipment for Israel's PTT and the Israeli defense forces.

BATM has strong strategic alliances with world leaders, such as Sun Microsystems, Nokia, IBM, Samsung, and 3M. These bases of cooperation along with BATM's leading edge capabilities are the reasons why BATM is capable of delivering the future now.

16.24 per share is not a bad result! What is going on this morning? Every deal has been a buy but the price has gone down.

Thanks for all the info.

Red Underwing - 15 Sep 2003 12:27 - 39 of 61

I find 16.24 p unbelievably high!

16.24 cents (where do they get all these silly decimal points) also seems too high to me. Sorry an excess of decimals points is one of my hobby horses. Usually they can't get the first figure correct, so how can they expect to be right about hundreths or thousandths of that. Grrr...

I don't trust these analysts. With all the grief in the industry over the past year or so I would be happy with a reduced loss of say 8p.

I think the future looks much rosier.

Some news items to support that view but not specifically about BAT Man:

http://finance.lycos.com/qc/news/story.aspx?symbols=NYSE:NT&story=35604302

What we need now is a date for those results, we should see a notice today I would have thought. I'll just check before posting this.

Looking at the chart through my crystal ball I think 27/28 is achievable. 27.7 it say here ;-)

But what happens if they turn in a loss of say 10P/share (the downside). I can't see the price holding.

If the loss is 1p & an upbeat statement concerning trading & contracts & prospects, then the price should carry on up.

A modest profit & an upbeat outlook would see them fly IMO.

I'd prefer not to take the risk & would be happy to exit with any sort of profit. I need 23.7p to break even.

I'll consider a limit sale sometime into the week!

brianboru - 26 Sep 2003 10:19 - 56 of 61

Promises, promises promises. Time they performed, broadband has boomed for 12 months but there's nothing in their figures to suggest that they're getting any real business. Too small for major telco managers to risk installing their products I'd guess.

TomL - 26 Sep 2003 11:12 - 57 of 61

Red, sorry my post 46 was a bit short and unfortunately has been borne out by events today - mid 20.25 (range 20.75-18.00 on 1.2mio shares traded, gapped down).

I'm a stock tape reader and my comments were based entirely on my analysis of the stock's behaviour. Sadly, I find most analysts material far too optimistic for the times in which we live and fundamental analysis on most TMT's is almost always impossible to accurately corroborate in relation to companies in these sectors but outside the ftse100 - Batm is no exception.

The Co. does have a good business model and competent management and technical excellence in its niche. Fact is Batm do not control the marketplace in which they operate.

I believe conditions will improve for them, albeit slowly. I believe Batm represents value again at 7-8p. I have no long/short lines in Batm.

Best wishes,
TomL..:>)

washlander - 26 Sep 2003 15:49 - 58 of 61

The Israelis are renowned for their IT skills and this contract with the Iraeli Defense Force looks promising, more so as they will be sole contractors. I am sure major telecos will buy in especially with security being so high on the agenda, furthermore they are sill very cash rich. I will stay until final results in March.

Red Underwing - 26 Sep 2003 16:53 - 59 of 61

TomL
Thanks for the additional information. I thought stock tape readers were no more! Has the activity changed but with same 'title'?

I was expecting a loss maybe as much as 7 or 8p but thought the additional information was pointing to a smaller loss. A 1p loss was at the top end of my expectations (message 45), but I believed that would be quite well received. Doesn't look like it was today:-(

They seem to have enough cash in the bank for continuing operations ( about 3.9p per share at first glance).

The Telco subsidiary skould be well placed to pick up new contracts.

The trades today seemd to indicate some support. I doubt the last two trades shown were sells but I haven't had a good look at them yet.

I hope Monday will be a better day, but don't count on it!

TomL - 26 Sep 2003 22:11 - 61 of 61

Red, no probs.

Fwiw, I find it best to look at intra-day/closing trades on stocks like these against prior day and weekly data principally because, if you get your timing right (on an inter-day basis), these kinds of stocks can yield massive profits.

Two things I do (and everyone is different, you get to know what suits you) - first, I only intra-day trade SETS ukx100 which requires a whole different trading approach than the rest which I "position" or swing trade..reason:ukx100 provide lots of liquidity during the day whereas the rest are by no means as seamless, particularly on spreads.

My "patience" money goes into non-ukx stocks when the overall mkt conditions/trend are favourable.....not so right now imo (although have been since circa mid-march and no doubt will be again)..and my holding will vary from 24 hours(a botched trade) to 18 weeks (a multi-bagger)..that's in the selection process which has to be as good as the trading approach, I hate 10 percenters but that's merely my personality..they require much more sweat.

Second, I'm ruthlessly mechanical - I have complete confidence in my own proven trading approach (you have to be, otherwise you are dead..nb word "proven") and if they are not moving in the direction of my position by the close of the following trading session or fall below the traded high/lows of my entry day, I cut the trade(s)...its your classic M&S "sale, be satisfied or return" policy.

I don't know your approach, but I used to find that if I constantly watched the screens on these kinds of stocks then that would tell me something needed a fix in either the money (line too large?), mental(why do I feel bad about this trade?) or methodology (why do I lack confidence in my trading decisions?) departments.

All the best,
