The Guardian, 20 Aug:

"..Superscape, the developer of 3D software for mobile phones, gained 2p to a fresh year high of 35.5p on talk that a licensing deal for its Swerve technology with Motorola will be announced next week.."

...and tipped as a buy in Shmag this week?

Doing nicely yesterday too!

Juzzle - 24 Aug 2003 17:18 - 11 of 195

From The Times this Saturday:

- Rumour Of The Day -

Shares in Superscape Group, which develops 3-D software for mobile phones, have more than doubled sunce the beginning of July, in part because of a strong rally over the past week. The shares, which slid 1p to 38.5p yesterday, have been fuelled by speculation that the company, once considered a bid target for ARM, is next week set to announce a contract win.

Legins - 25 Aug 2003 13:30 - 12 of 195

Yes I think it will. I have been doing very well with SPS since the begining of April03 but did not add to my holding untill the begining of May13 @ 7.5p. Since then it has been on the up & up and my overall holding came back into profit by mid June03. I think that SPS will continue for some time as their 3D software platform for mobile phones takes up licences. SPS is in collaboration with ARM who supply most of the chips for mobile phones and whose development efforts are now coming into fruition. In fact I would say that without SPS's & ARM's collaboration in this 3D software platform, 2.5 & 3G mobile phones would never have a use unless they have 3D content in embedded and downloadable games & applications. Therefore SPS is a must for mobile phone networks and equipment manufacturers.

pokerpearson - 02 Sep 2003 08:50 - 13 of 195

Relative to the fundamentals SPS could be considered "a bit frothy" at the current levels. However, on the basis of "fear & greed" there may well be quite a bit more upside between now and the calendar year end as more and more announcements are made regarding progress and contract wins. Overall the potential has to be enormous, but until the deals are done it certainly has it's risks.

Samsung to Build Linux Smart Phones

By Tony Cripps

Global number-three handset manufacturer Samsung Electronics Co Ltd will announce its intention to build smart phones based on Linux in the near future.

The South Korean consumer electronics giant has never publicly stated a intention to develop handsets based on the software. However, a press release issued Thursday by Superscape Group Plc indicated that Samsung has licensed the company's ARM Swerve i3D Graphics Client technology, which it jointly developed with mobile chip designer ARM Holdings Ltd, for "a new series of Linux-based Samsung SmartPhones" to be launched before the end of the year.

Samsung was unavailable for comment before ComputerWire went to press, but a spokesperson for Superscape confirmed that Samsung is indeed building Linux-based smart phones and that the announcement was not in error.

Samsung's decision means that the company will soon offer handsets based on all the major smart phone operating systems, with devices based on Windows Mobile, Symbian OS, and Palm OS also in the pipeline.

The revelation sheds light on a number of previous stories that have linked Samsung to Linux phones. In late August, little-known South Korean embedded systems developer Mizi Research Inc announced the launch of a complete smart phone platform, including applications, around its own Mizi Linux 2.0 distribution.

The company was rumored to have attracted a development deal with an unidentified major consumer electronics manufacturer for the platform, with speculation suggesting that Samsung was the most likely taker. Mizi recently announced the release of a board support package for Samsung's S3C2410X mobile processor.

Samsung's interest in Linux phones is further reinforced by its membership of the CE Linux Forum (CELF). The CELF consortium was formed in July by Sony, Hitachi, NEC, Royal Philips Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sharp, Toshiba, and Matsushita (Panasonic) with the intention of popularizing Linux for use in consumer electronics devices, including mobile phones.

While it is unclear where Samsung intends to sell its Linux phones, Mizi's Linux is available in an English-language variation, suggesting that the devices may not be restricted to the southeast Asian market.

SUPERSCAPE AND ARM LICENSE SWERVE i3D GRAPHICS CLIENT TO MOTOROLA FOR SELECT
MOBILE PHONES

Superscape Group plc (LSE: SPS) announced today a licensing agreement with
Motorola for the Swerve i3D Graphics Client, which was jointly developed with
ARM ((LSE: ARM); Nasdaq: ARMHY)). The client is JSR (Java Specification
Request) 184 compliant, which is important for the seamless integration and
distribution of 3D content to the global carrier marketplace.

Swerve i3D Graphics Client will be embedded on select Motorola devices expected
to hit the market in mid-2004. By using the Swerve i3D Graphics Client new
features such as 3D gaming and 3D character based applications will be enabled,
providing additional revenue opportunities for operators around the globe.

Additionally, a number of 3D games developed by Superscape, using the company's
Swerve Author toolset, will be either embedded on select Motorola handsets or
available as over the air (OTA) downloads.

Kevin Roberts, CEO, Superscape Group plc said: 'This agreement with Motorola is
a powerful statement of the important position the Swerve i3D Graphics Client is
establishing in the global wireless sector. In addition, Superscape has also
been given the opportunity by Motorola to develop Swerve-based content for their
mobile phones. I believe that this will provide us with a worldwide showcase to
demonstrate the speed and quality of JSR 184 compliant Swerve-authored
interactive 3D content'.

Tip Update: nerve needed at Superscape

Email to a friend

Superscape could have done without having to publish its interim results today showing minimal revenues, and a placing to raise 10 million may worry investors, but the fruits of a number of big deals should start to flow through soon.

Turnover for the six months to July was just 94,000 down from 510,000 last year with losses down 26% to 3.7 million.

However virtually none of last year's revenues were from the wireless business, which is now Superscape's only focus, and where the big deals of the last few months have come from.

Chief executive Kevin Roberts told Citywire that the City was expecting the first half numbers. House broker Evolution Beeson Gregory is looking for full-year revenues of 1.5 million, nearly all of which will come in the final quarter of the year. For next year this rises to 4.5 million, and much of this is underpinned by the recent deals with the likes of Sony, Motorola, Siemens and Disney (see related articles).

The company is raising 9.3 million net of expenses through a placing of 27,118,644 new shares and placing and open offer of 6,892,058 shares at 29.5p.

Roberts said this was to exploit the 'outstanding' opportunities the company now has to do content deals, rather than because it needed the cash to keep going. He said the company had at least 18 months of cash to keep going, but the number of opportunities coming its way now required extra cash to help Superscape deliver on these deals.

In the next 90 days, Roberts reckons there will be further announcements to come with 'high level' intellectual property owners, with whom Superscape does deals for the rights to develop 3D mobile games based on their characters or content. There will also be more technology deals with major players.

Through its relationship with ARM, which has already invested in the company and which is re-investing in this round, and with the major handset players and content owners, Superscape is also talking to all of the major mobile operators.

The company has potential revenue streams coming in from a number of areas, including providing tools to games developers, where it takes a royalty on games developed. It also co-publishes games, as with its deal with Sony, in which it takes the lion’s share of the royalties.

‘The cash register is always ringing for Superscape,’ Roberts said, which will be good news for investors who have so far seen little evidence of any cash registering at all.

Citywire Verdict:
Shares (SPS) are up 0.5p at 33p.We tipped them more than a year ago at 21p, and have advised hanging on in there ever since. The shares have been as high as 40p, but I still think the company has yet to really show what it can do, and this is not now the time to bail out.ENDS.

Well that will do me, take note of the new deals etc over the next 90 days, a price pusher if I ever saw one. Not the time to bail out, more like the time to wade in I would say.

cheers GF.

SUPERSCAPE GROUP PLC

SUPERSCAPE FIRST TO MARKET FOLLOWING RATIFICATION OF NEW JAVA STANDARD FOR 3D ON MOBILE PHONES

Superscape Group plc (LSE: SPS) announces that following the official ratification today by the Java Standards Community of JSR 184 to be known as the Mobile 3D Graphics API the companys Swerve technology is the worlds first commercially available implementation of this standard for delivering rich media 3D on mobile devices.

The new award winning Mobile 3D Graphics API standard is the result of more than a years development work by a highly experienced Expert Group of the Java community. Superscape was a founder member of this Group, which also included Nokia, Vodafone, Siemens, ARM, Sony Ericcson and Motorola. Having been intimately involved in every aspect of the development of this new global standard, Superscape has been ideally placed to develop a standards-compliant 3D engine, authoring tools and associated content branded as Swerve.

Superscapes Swerve software has been developed in close collaboration with ARM. Swerve Client (the engine) has been optimised to run on a single ARM 9 (or above) processor and can also use any available hardware acceleration on the handset using OpenGL ES. It provides an elegant and cost-effective means of delivering console quality, high performance 3D applications, including games, on mass-market mobile phones. Swerve Studio (the authoring tool) is a fully compliant development environment for creating console quality interactive 3D applications for wireless devices. It is based on the industry-standard design software, 3D Studio Max.

Recent agreements with Siemens, Samsung and Motorola, as well as a number of major content and brand organisations, including Sony, have provided strong endorsement of the leading position of Superscapes Swerve technology in the global mobile marketplace.

Kevin Roberts, CEO, Superscape Group plc said: The final ratification of this standard represents a significant milestone for Superscape and the culmination of many months of highly focused development work together with other key players in the Java community. The new standard to which our Swerve technology has been designed to be fully compliant will enable the over the air (OTA) delivery of console quality Java games, a sector that is predicted to account for 88.3 per cent of total mobile game sales of just below $7 billion in Europe in 2006.

Sunday Tip

Midas, Mail on Sunday
30 November 2003
CREATING an industry standard is the ambition of every technology company and mobile phone games firm Superscape Group looks well placed in its sector.
Its Swerve three-dimensional graphics software, which it has developed with chip designer ARM, is used in mobile phones to enable them to play games and perform other functions.
Like many developing technology companies, Superscape has been something of a jam-tomorrow story, but in recent months it has begun to show signs of delivering.
Chief executive Kevin Roberts has released a steady stream of announcements, which are lifeblood to small companies such as Superscape.
In July, phone maker Siemens said it would use Swerve in a selection of its mobiles and last month it was joined by Samsung and Motorola, giving Superscape three of the top five manufacturers.
While Swerve's use on millions of phones in the next year will be a fillip for Superscape, the real kick to turnover will come from content, and the company has also signed deals in this area.
It has co-published with Sony a game based on the film S.W.A.T., starring Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell, while it also has a revenue-sharing deal with Disney to develop two games.
Because the company is still in a development phase, having switched from creating software for PCs to mobiles a couple of years ago, it is still making losses.
Interim results announced last month showed operating losses fell 26% to 3.7 million, helped by cost-cutting. The company raised 9.3 million through a share issue at 29p to fund further development.
Shares in Superscape, which was founded 20 years ago, closed on Friday at 31p, valuing the company at 38 million.
Midas verdict: Superscape is operating in markets set for stellar growth in the next few years, but its success is not a foregone conclusion and it is a high-risk investment. Since it is making losses, valuing the group is difficult and investors must hope that it can convert its potential into turnover during the next couple of years. But there should be room in every portfolio for speculative shares. While Superscape could disappoint, if it succeeds the potential could be massive, so it is worth buying a few shares.

SUPERSCAPE SIGNS LICENSE AGREEMENT WITH ACTIVISION TO BRING LEADING PLAYSTATION
2 TITLE TO MOBILE PHONES

multi-player interactive 3D version of Street Hoops(R) under development for
Java and Brew-based mobiles

Superscape announced today that the company is working together with Activision,
Inc. under the terms of a license agreement to develop an innovative 3D version
of the street-style basketball game - Street Hoops(R) - for Java and Brew-based
mobile phones. The game, which will utilise Superscape's Mobile 3D Graphics API
(JSR 184 compliant) interactive 3D Swerve technology, will be accessible for
consumers via over the air (OTA) download and will become available Q4 2003 for
Brew and Q1 2004 for the Java version.

The wireless version of Street Hoops will be a two-on-two game where players
compete for points on a selection of different courts, including Venice Beach,
Jackson Park and Rucker Park. To successfully complete a court, the player must
beat four increasingly difficult teams. Cash prizes are awarded for wins, with
players having the option to use this to either unlock more courts or to buy
additional players. Well known street ball players, including Headache, Hot
Sauce and Speedy, will all be featured in the new Street Hoops game.

Dave Anderson, Director of Business Development and Licensing for Activision,
Inc. said: 'We are delighted to be working with Superscape on the development
of a version of Street Hoops for mobile phones. We believe that Superscape's
Swerve technology is a unique development platform, providing high quality
images and the small file sizes which are essential for over the air delivery of
mobile games.'

Kevin Roberts, CEO, Superscape Group plc said: 'The development and
distribution of high quality 3D content for mobile phones, utilising
well-established IP such as Street Hoops, is a key part of Superscape's strategy
to establish Swerve as the de facto standard for 3D on wireless devices. I am
excited by the opportunity to work with Activision, a leading global publisher,
and believe that this new version of Street Hoops will prove a hit with network
operators, handset manufacturers and consumers.'

I think its inevitable that Nokia will sign some sort of agreement to use the SPS technology in some of its phones. The patents are in place and SPS will increase on the back of sales, which will hopefully be more than games - as the technology is for 3D graphics increasingly being used on mobiles for everything from Menu's to WAP to games.

moneyman - 02 Dec 2003 21:13 - 61 of 195

skids I agree that it is just a matter of time before we see that RNS and it should be worth 15-20%.

Legins - 03 Dec 2003 00:52 - 62 of 195

The main force that will be giving massive support to SPS's Swerve technology is the graphical user interface & content urgently required by mobile phone co's who need to recoup the enormous fees they paid for their 3G Licences.

Until they have a reasonable amount of graphical user content with business & personal software applications (as well as games) on all new 3G Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, Seimens, Motorola, Samsung Etc. phones then their RPU will be limited. The likes of Vodaphone, Orange & T-Mobile will be certainly looking for the return on their investments and there is an obvious race for these networks to earn as big a slice of the 3G mobile communication market there is. The better the content for communication software applications available, the swifter existing users will upgrade their phones and new customers are attracted to use 3G networks.

It is SPS's following announcement which makes it certain that their share price will increase significantly over the next 12 - 18 months and could well see their former glory when the share price was above 500p in 2000.

SUPERSCAPE GROUP PLC

SUPERSCAPE FIRST TO MARKET FOLLOWING RATIFICATION OF NEW JAVA STANDARD FOR 3D ON
MOBILE PHONES

Superscape Group plc (LSE: SPS) announces that following the official
ratification today by the Java Standards Community of JSR 184 - to be known as
the Mobile 3D Graphics API - the company's Swerve technology is the world's
first commercially available implementation of this standard for delivering rich
media 3D on mobile devices.

The new award winning Mobile 3D Graphics API standard is the result of more than
a year's development work by a highly experienced Expert Group of the Java
community. Superscape was a founder member of this Group, which also included
Nokia, Vodafone, Siemens, ARM, Sony Ericcson and Motorola. Having been
intimately involved in every aspect of the development of this new global
standard, Superscape has been ideally placed to develop a standards-compliant 3D
engine, authoring tools and associated content - branded as Swerve.

Superscape's Swerve software has been developed in close collaboration with ARM.
Swerve Client (the engine) has been optimised to run on a single ARM 9 (or
above) processor and can also use any available hardware acceleration on the
handset using OpenGL ES. It provides an elegant and cost-effective means of
delivering console quality, high performance 3D applications, including games,
on mass-market mobile phones. Swerve Studio (the authoring tool) is a fully
compliant development environment for creating console quality interactive 3D
applications for wireless devices. It is based on the industry-standard design
software, 3D Studio MaxTM.

Recent agreements with Siemens, Samsung and Motorola, as well as a number of
major content and brand organisations, including Sony, have provided strong
endorsement of the leading position of Superscape's Swerve technology in the
global mobile marketplace.

Kevin Roberts, CEO, Superscape Group plc said: 'The final ratification of this
standard represents a significant milestone for Superscape and the culmination
of many months of highly focused development work together with other key
players in the Java community. The new standard - to which our Swerve
technology has been designed to be fully compliant - will enable the over the
air (OTA) delivery of console quality Java games, a sector that is predicted to
account for 88.3 per cent of total mobile game sales of just below $7 billion in
Europe in 2006'.

Superscape will see several streams of increasing revenues from their Swerve technology as :- 1) phone manufacturers with royalties from Swerve Client embedded into ARM9 chips in mobile phones. 2) They will earn licence fees & royalties from 3rd party software developers programming 3D graphical applications in Java & Brew for the mobiles phone game & business / personal communication market using Swerve Studio. 3) SPS are to also earn fees & royalties from 3D Graphical Games & Software Applications they win contracts to develop for clients, e.g. Walt Disney, or for themselves.

Brokers Forcast
"Well only one broker covering SPS....EBG and been bullish about SPS with a BUY recommendation!!"

BULL points

"@ 35% of the company shares with major institutions, including ARM. Well there are hundreds of small companies out there, and if superscape don`t have a recipe of a successful company they would not have the back up of these big names! @ Booming, explosive sector......mobile gaming!!"

"@ A long list of contracts been signed so far with big players, the like of Motorola,Sumsung, Siemens, Disney, Sony,to name but few and more to come in the next 3 months."

"@ Some of the financial tipsters are getting excited about this company and been tiped few times in the past...as well as new year tip which work both ways!!"

Bear points
@ No forcast of future revenues, so nobody knows if all these contracts signed will generate enough cash till profitibility.
@ The recent open offer which was unexpected.
@ They consume around 5mil a year!! (what do they do with the money), although they cut the number of employee.
@ The market may not take 3D concept as much as we think!
@ The company never made a single penny in profit, so it a jam tomorrow type company and if they don`t make this time then we are all doomed......
@ Nokia decided to develop thier own client, as well as other companies may start competing in the same market. but this one is not happening soon, I hope!!

"I think most of the SPSer on this board share this Verdict with me.......A high risk/reward company with a high chance of its technology to become a defacto of the mobile 3D market......so all in all it is a BUY after you do your own research!!"

"I hope you find this helpful and don`t hesitate to correct me if I am wrong.
Happy new year and best of luck!!
wisam"

Superscape (SPS) has received various tips in the press and by Analysts recently which will certainly give impetous to the share price. Indicators are looking good with the RSI rising off an oversold position and the MACD crossing showing BULLISH signs for the stock.

The mobile gaming market is still in it's infancy but the projected revenue is enourmous. Mobile operators are looking at tapping the Gameboy market as they feel that users will not want tocarry around a multitude of technology and if they have a mobile phone which can double as a gaming station than people will prefer this option.

People should also look at the recent contracts which SPS have signed for theri technology. This is a technology company which could well be a great success in 2004.

Cell Phone Games
Wireless games are played on Internet-enabled portable devices such as personal digital assistants and, particularly, cell phones. Primitive-looking wireless games have already gained enormous popularity and bolstered by new software tools that allow game creators to deliver robust, colourful images, and by the emergence of third-generation, or 3G, cellular networks, wireless games are on the verge of commercial success.

Cell phones historically have been made for talking, not blasting pretending enemies from afar. Their screens were in black and white, and were too tiny to detect ammunition the size of a pinhead firing across the screen. Buttons intended for dialling simply were not meant for manoeuvring through mazes and engaging in life-and-death on-screen battles. But phone makers are beginning to recognize the potential of wireless gaming, and it was a much-discussed issue at the recent Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association Wireless 2002 show in Orlando, Florida.

There's a market for fun on the run. The incredible success of Nintendo's Game Boy and Game Boy Advance proves this theory. Nintendo has sold more than 100 million of the hand-held video game devices worldwide. The popularity of the Game Boy has inspired software makers to make games for personal digital assistants, such as Palms and Pocket PCs. Hasbro has created a $25 electronic toy called POX that recognizes kids' desire to play with others. The biggest names in video consoles, Microsoft's Xbox, Nintendo's GameCube and Sony's PlayStation 2, allow players in the same room to compete. But none yet offer head-to-head competition online. U.S. cell phone carriers are spending billions of dollars to build the kind of speedier networks for carrying data that Japan and parts of Europe already have.

Other positive developments are:

Verizon Wireless has begun offering Southern California subscribers' games such as Magic 8 Ball, Solitaire, Blackjack and sports games such as golf, football and bowling. Verizon rolled out its upgraded network on the East Coast and in the Pacific Northwest in 2002.

Cell phone gaming is a big hit in Asia, and is not new in the United States. A game called Snake has been built into every Nokia handset released since 1997. But analysts say crude gaming options are being expanded as companies start to view games as a serious way to reach new customers.

Motorola Vice President Juan Montes calls cell-phone games "entertainment snacks" that "kill periods of micro boredom." A version of the game Wheel of Fortune is pre-loaded on Motorola T720 from Verizon Wireless.

Sprint has put a big emphasis on games, currently offering more than 60, ranging from trivia games to casino games, and more are on the way. Sprint phones come with demos of games like Monkey Ball and Space Invaders. Additional downloads cost $ 1 to $ 5 per game. Most of the games are downloaded by teens, but operators haven't forgotten adults.

AT&T Wireless lets customers access about 30 games via mobile phones. At present all are free except a golf game from start-up Jamdat Mobile Inc.

Qualcomm, creator of a programming language, Brew, that makes it possible to download gaming software to cell phones, and PacketVideo Corp., whose streaming-video technology is used to make interactive games more compelling on wireless devices are helping to fuel the wireless gaming revolution.

In 2002, seven million wireless users in the U.S. paid to download a game to their phone, according to IDC, a research firm. IDC predicts the number of mobile gamers in the United States to jump from 7 million in 2002 to 71.2 million in 2007. It expects U.S. mobile gaming revenue to jump from $130 million in 2002 to $4 billion in 2007. Another New York-based market research firm Datamonitor projects that by 2005,80 percent of all wireless users in the United States and Western Europe--200 million people--will at least occasionally play games on their handhelds. In that period, the wireless-games market will zoom from less than $ 1 million per year to $ 6 billion, if the rosier estimates are to be believed.

I can't see why nokia would decide to developer their own client! the swerve tech from SPS is based on Java and that has been accepted as the standard/way forward. i personally think nokia will have to use it or play catch-up. linked gaming using bluetooth could be a big market for the future (especially in asia), but i also see swerve being used to snazz-up the menu systems too.

It would be nice to see some evidence that Nokia was using an alternative engine, they part sponsored the Java standard JSR184 which forms the basis for Swerve along with Superscape. The intuition is therefore that the two have already been in some form of negotiation. Also, as Superscape are developing for Sony, it would appear logical that a deal with Erricson shouldn't suprise. If, and it is a big if, Superscape signed both, this share would rise significantly. The premise being that it would have achieved the holy grail of a monopoly software supplier and IP holder in mobile telephony. Shareholders should see this potential as a bonus rather than given. The long term position for Superscape should be to develop Swerve as the defacto engine for developing software and pursue games development to generate long term revenues. Any agreement with a manufacturer in conjunction with Arm should be viewed as a very significant bonus but Citywire have quoted Superscape as implying that they are talking to Nokia!

skids - 06 Jan 2004 13:04 - 89 of 195

ehall
i agree with your comments, but i would add that SPS could gain substantially from the Asian market. Mobile games are big in Japan and they don't use Nokia's that much! Nokia is the biggest supplier, and is probably the most used handsets in Europe, but games are huge in Asia. So whether or not Nokia is signed I think SPS future looks rosey.

Oh and the 3G Mobile World Forum is to be held in Tokyo (13-16th January 2004).

DUESSELDORF (AFX) - Nokia Corp is considering using its 12 bln eur war chest
to make acquisitions in the multimedia sector this year, the head of its
multimedia business, Anssi Vanjoki, said in an interview in the German magazine
WirtschaftsWoche to appear tomorrow.
"Acquisitions are always a possibility when you have the financial means.
Nokia has nearly 12 bln eur in the till," Vanjoki said.
He said any acquisitions would be concentrated in areas where Nokia does not
have scope for organic growth.
"In marketing, logistics and brand management, we do not need to buy because
we are already ahaed," he said.
"But why shouldn't we buy in (the areas of) technology or content? If an
acquisition would help us to get into a market more quickly, we will seize the
opportunity," he added.
Vanjiki said Nokia is targeting a profitable multimedia business by the
year-end, he said.

ehall - 07 Jan 2004 21:46 - 95 of 195

The counter to any bid from a predator for SPS would be a bid by ARM. The premise by which ARM is so succesful in marketing it's chips are the additional functionalities offered. One of the major benefits of the ARM 9 core processor is that swerve is essentially embedded in the chip, this enables it to run games faster than any alternatives, requires less memory to run and to store the binaries. This is also why Superscape's technology has achieved so many licenses. Arm would not let superscape go without a fight and as a major holder with around 1% of the shares and supporter of the company in the recent fundraising, the two seem to have a very close bond!

Moneyman,

I wonder if many investors have noticed how close the interest Nokia has in Superscapes JSR184 compliant Swerve 3D graphics technology and an announcement of a deal between them. There is an escalation of new 3G phones shipped with PSION's SymbianOS on Vodafone 3G network and the huge demand for 3D Graphical User Interface content & software for mobile personal & corporate computing and 3D Games on NOKIA phones.

Here is the the link to show how strong a position Superscape has with NOKIA!

As far as I can recall it was tipped in the Mail (weekend) a month or so back in addition to Shares Mag very recently. Citywire were positive a few months back. Then we had the mention on teletext at the start of the year.
Im very positive on this one. Wireless carriers like Sprint are shortly introducing 3d games. Take a look at Sony mobile and you see they provide games to Sprint and Superscape are developing SWAT on a revenue sharing deal. All the recent deals and those of last year are now coming to fruition and I expect to see an explosion of Superscapes work coming onto the market from many angles like Cybiko, Activision, Sony, Disney, THQ etc not to mention embedded games to Samsung, Siemens and Motorola to coincide with the release of their new model phones.

One has to only see the 2003 figures of 4m game downloads by Americas Sprint PCS out of a wireless subscriber base of 16m customers to see the phenonemal growth potential in content and games alone.

The Sony mobile site, when asking you to register requets your mobile number. I take it that this will be a very sound way of prompting mobile users of the latest games which may prove irresitable and will generate many new sales of games and content etc.

Just one paragraph on Mobile gaming

You know, so far we' ve seen how useful innovation can educate and enlighten, but it can also
entertain. At Sprint, we' vet given customers access to wireless games and a community of
wireless gamers, if you will. That means more than 200 game choices from 18 game publishers.
Starting this month, we take wireless games to the next level by creating the Game Lobby, a
space where the mobile community of gamers can meet and compete. Eventually, Sprint gamers
will be able to earn frequent -gamer points and prizes for best scores. Starting in the second
quarter, we will introduce games in 3D with the launch of the next evolution of Java for wireless.

There is a very good chance that these will be our games.

From the EGM Bookmaker made the following observation....

"SPS got a fabulous reception from Sprint and have told Qualcomm they are their preferred vendor."

Roll on Q2.

Hook, Hampshire: Tuesday 29 May 2001 mediadome, Inc, the company formed with
investments from Superscape plc and Intel Corporation has announced the launch
of its browser-enabling technology for the interactive gaming industry. The
first customer for this new solution, is CNET Networks, Inc, the global source

Mobile data to fuel operator growth
By electricnews.net

Get The Reg wherever you are, with The Mobile Register

The market for mobile services such as messaging and games will reach $126 billion by 2008, according to a new report.

The study, Mobile Content and Applications 2003, by London-based consultancy ARC Group, predicts that mobile services will account for 20 per cent of total mobile operator revenues by 2008. According to ARC, this represents a solid growth trend for the mobile services market over the next five years, with revenues more than doubling from their 2003 level.

The study found that while voice revenues are forecast to grow at a slower pace, the total mobile market will continue to expand, as usage of services such as messaging, games and music start to penetrate the mass market.

"We see the mobile services market developing from the early adopters and the youth sector to include the wider consumer mass market, as well as business users," said Richard Jesty, senior consultant at ARC and lead author of the report. "This will mean an increase in total revenues for operators, as these new mobile services will offset the likely shift from voice calls to messaging."

Spurred on by the popularity of ringtone and image downloads, entertainment will be the second largest revenue generator, accounting for just over a fifth of total revenues in 2008, as mobile video applications and mobile games start to reach mass-market penetration, according to ARC.

Although consumer services are leading the way, the study also forecasts strong growth for the business sector of the mobile services market, predicting high usage levels and a growing awareness of the value of adding mobility to front office applications. These factors will help to put office applications aimed at the mobile business user in third place after messaging and entertainment by 2008, ARC says.

Operators will need to create new channels to market, by partnering with systems integrators and consultants in the business sector for example, or developing new self-service retail formats such as multimedia kiosks to reach the mass market consumer, according to ARC. This trend towards a greater reliance on partnering will also mean that new business and revenue models will need to evolve in response to the requirement of a more complex market place.

Mobile revenue models are still at an early stage of development, and a number of alternative models are competing for acceptance. Currently, the most favoured models are either purely per event-based or are combinations of subscription charge and event-based charging structures, ARC found.

As the market develops, there will be more opportunities to offer value-based charging and this in turn will call for more sophisticated billing systems which can offer active rating facilities, and share revenues with third parties, it concludes.

With reference to todays sell recommendation in the Investors chronicle. Just a note of warning, this magazine also said to buy Finsbury Foods last month, their research is very often weak and the article on superscape is a prime example. The facts are that games based on Swerve where the client is embedded on the chip will run significantly faster than any other games, so that removes the competition from 3 of the worlds 5 biggest manufacturers. Other companies may want to enter the market but this is already a barrier to entry. DEvelopment of games is open, superscape never wanted a monopoly on development and it never will have but look at the deals signed already (why use Java?)! Also note the other recommendations on the same day, it is funny how investors chronicle completely contradicts itself recommending and selling companies that have never made a profit within 2 pages!

skids - 23 Jan 2004 08:51 - 127 of 195

GameMobile issues 2003 Christmass mobile java games top-seller list
Www.GameMobile.co.uk, one of the leading UK distributors of Mobile Phone Games for java enabled phones, saw an incredible increase in sales of their mobile games over the 2003 festive period.

(PRWEB) January 17 2004--It seems that everybody got a colour phone at Christmas and one of the first things they wanted to do was play games. The GameMobile site saw an increase of over 178% in traffic and mobile game sales almost doubled. The most popular models were the SonyEricsson T610 and Nokias new N-Gage, with the Nokia 3650 & 3510i closely following. The two top models accounted for over a third of the traffic though.

Amazingly, the top overall games were more strategic in nature rather than the more traditional arcade games. Probably because theyre easier from a button control point of view. Over the 2 week Christmas period the top 5 games were:

1: Townsmen - build & run a city simulator game.
2: Air Traffic Control - simulator game.
3: Kaprov 3D Chess - top 3D chess game.
4: Italian Job - racing arcade game based on the new film.
5: Rack em up - classic pool-hall game.

Game sales are going through the roof as hunger builds for the demanding consumer today who wants their mobile phone to become a full entertainment platform. Worldwide mobile phone sales were up again in the third quarter of 2003, with 132.8 million units sold, a 22 percent increase from last year. Source: www.enn.ie - and most of these are colour java-enabled handsets capable of playing mobile phone games.

We see the future of mobile java games and applications as key to the marketplace. Www.gamemobile.co.uk, for example, is also developing many other applications for users not only in the gaming arena. With our new applications it will soon be possible to browse the web, pick up email and do instant chat, gambling and alike on lower level java handsets - something which has only so far been the reserve of high-end mobile phones.

Were very excited about 2004 with hundreds of new games titles on the horizon and the integration of amazing java applications

Andrew Leach, Mail on Sunday

OTORCYCLE daredevil Evel Knievel will appear on mobile phone screens in a state-of-the-art game from Superscape Group to be announced tomorrow.

Shares in Superscape are likely to be boosted when it tells the Stock Exchange of the latest breakthrough.

The company has developed the industry standard for mobile gaming, thanks to its Swerve 3D graphics software which produces highly realistic images.

It is starting to roll out games and will use the software in a game featuring stunt legend Knievel, who jumped 13 double decker buses at Wembley Stadium in 1975 to be played on new generation handsets.

Superscape has signed a licensing and publishing deal with brand development company Global Wireless Entertainment.

Kevin Roberts, Superscape's chief executive, said: 'Given the worldwide interest in this personality and his spectacular exploits, I believe that the Evelution game will prove a great hit for gamers worldwide.'

Kevin Roberts, CEO, Superscape Group plc said: Evel Knievel is a name that is known throughout the world as the worlds first and still most exciting motorcycle daredevil. Both PC and Game Boy-based games have been developed, but our agreement with GWE will see Evel Knievel come to the small screen of mobile phones for the very first time. Given the worldwide interest in this personality and his spectacular exploits, I believe that the new Evel-ution game will prove to be a great hit for gamers worldwide.

Whats going on, announcements like this should push the price up, instead people are selling. Crazy!!! Anyway I feel is a buy and hold for the next 2 years to get the most of this gem. Thanks

Legins - 28 Jan 2004 13:07 - 138 of 195

xmortal,

It could be that MM's are trying to gather stock as with a success story like this institutional buyers are now wanting to get in. IMHO hold & add.

I agree with youon this one. Opportunity to Add IMHO.

Had to phone up this morning to add to my holding. The limit was at 50000. It would not let me even buy 15000.
It seems that Legins could be right.

Def hold.

Only time will tell.

momentum - 28 Jan 2004 18:21 - 141 of 195

If you look at the price action this afternoon,at 1400 bid offer was dropped from 35/37 to 34/36. only 15000 shares were bid against 100,000 buys and 170,000 dly. offer was subsequently raised to 37p.imho mm s are trying desperately to gather stock. As soon as there is any buying momentum, price will rocket, time could be next week at games forum.

Happy1 - 28 Jan 2004 22:43 - 142 of 195

Too much good news for this not to rise over time.

Legins - 29 Jan 2004 00:20 - 143 of 195

Not just the stream of good news that will soon drive the share price up. Its the good revenues that will also come.

Remember how much wealth was created from operating systems and software through the rise in demand for the first 286, 386, 486 PC's, well this will be repeated in small powerful 3G mobile phone handsets and telecommunications & computing software to run on them. It won't take quite as long this time for Superscape, as Tadpole's SymbianOS backed by Nokia and now Microsoft want Swerve.

Not only that, Superscape has had a great deal of foresight. Now there is a fight with these companies as to who's operating system will get lions share of market and be the largest global operating system like Dos & Windows did in overtaking Apple in desktop & laptop PC's.

Whatever operating system that is ultimately the most popular they all will be heavily graphics oriented for users to be attracted to it. Superscape has made sure that their Swerve graphics technolgy is universal to mobile telecom & computing software and the popular programming languages of Java & Brew for either of the two leading contestors in operating systems.

Superscape now cannot loose and without doubt are the major leader in the whole global market for downloadable graphics applications on mobile telecommunication and computing devices.

aevansdj - 29 Jan 2004 20:33 - 144 of 195

I think this one will remain steady for a while, until the big mobile firms start reaping rewards from the vast amounts of money they've invested, in the 3G mobile phone licenses. When they start really talking up 3G it will be time to watch the price rise.
I agree with legins on the foresight of Superscape, they definately have people in the firm who have realised the potential in the market.Rather than putting their eggs in one basket. It's better to have fingers in more than one pie.

Happy1 - 29 Jan 2004 22:11 - 145 of 195

2 Wait until they reverse long

ehall - 30 Jan 2004 08:22 - 146 of 195

This share has a support level of around 30p at which institutions bought in the recent fund raising, it shouldn't go below that and should bounce back up given the recent news, let the shorter have his day, far too much institutional support and news for this share! Excluding cash, you are now paying 25m for a company that is signing with virtually every big name in the business, it is only a matter of time before the share bounces strongly!

momentum - 30 Jan 2004 14:11 - 147 of 195

Happy 1 very risky share to short, with an almost 10% spread, and more news due anytime. My view is small investors have been selling following IC article. Buying has not materialised follow recent news. so mm S have walk the price down and will continue to do so.

Five tech stocks that could deliver in 2004
Published: 08:10 Mon 2 Feb 2004
By Richard Lander, Editorial Director
Email to a friend | Printable Version

Picking some technology winners for 2004 is a far tougher job than finding those for 2003, but here are five companies that should have bigger things up their sleeve this year.

Our five technology tips for 2003 gained an average 78% in twelve months and several others that we selected in the middle to end of 2002 have done even better.

However, we have been warning for some time that valuations appeared to be running ahead of actual company results, and as we stand at this early stage of 2004, it looks highly unlikely that we will see anything like the levels of return available last year.

One veteran technology analyst, Richard Holway of Ovum, reckons we are likely to see a correction in technology stock valuations half way through this year, and his forecast for growth in the tech sector over the next decade is a very modest 5% a year. However, he does concede that there are still some good individual companies that should offer opportunities for greater returns.

The five tech companies we think could still do well this year are; Pipex Communications, Intec Telecom, Systems Union, Eckoh and, still speculative at this stage, Superscape.

* PIPEX (PXC) is an alternative telecoms company that has been rapidly built by taking advantage of a unique moment in history. The former GX Networks reversed into AIM-listed Zipcom and bought up several small companies that had invested millions of pounds of dotcom-era money in infrastructure only to burn through their cash before they could realise a return on their investment. Pipex's management has an aggressive strategy of cutting costs and leaving itself with the valuable infrastructure.

The company made an audacious 55 million acquisition of profitable internet service provider Pipex in October 2003 and has just produced its first profits before goodwill amortisation. It looks as though there could be more acquisitions in the pipeline, and the business now has the feel of one that could become a far larger player and a serious alternative telecoms operator to the UK business community.

The shares are currently at 10.5p, valuing the company at 187 million. This prices the business at 26 times this year's forecast earnings. While this may not be exactly cheap, you would be buying in to the distinct possibility that Pipex could become a much bigger player in the next 18-24 months.

* INTEC TELECOM (ITL) provides billing and operational systems software for telecoms companies. Its interconnect billing software enables operators to bill each other for calls carried across their networks and its mediation software gathers all of the necessary data from the telecoms switch to feed into systems such as billing and security. The company has had to scale down its expectations during the severe telecoms downturn, but has still managed to sign significant new business and turned in revenues for the year to September 2003 up 7% at 59.7 million with pre-tax profit before write-offs of 5.4 million from 2.2 million last time.

At 71.5p with a market capitalisation of 187 million the shares trade on a rating of 28 times next year's estimates. So at first glance it looks pretty fully valued. However, there are plenty of fund managers who seem to think that analysts are still being overly cautious on their earnings estimates in general, and that therefore there is scope for upgrades if the economic recovery shows signs of longevity. The punt on Intec is that for the type of software it provides to the type of global customers that it services, 148 million is still a pretty insignificant size with plenty of scope for upside.

* ECKOH TECHNOLOGIES (ECK) has spent the past couple of years incubating its new speech recognition technology, aimed at further automating call centre and interactive voice applications. The company has a deal with BT, under which BT hosts the system, and, hopefully, brings in some blue chip customers. Eckoh's bread and butter business is interactive voice response (IVR), and it recently announced a win with ITV to provide the voting, polling and interactive services used on programmes such as This Morning, CITV, Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, Trisha and The Vault. (continued...)

The company saw turnover for the half year to September down slightly at 25.7 million, although continuing operations were up slightly. Operating losses were reduced to 1 million from 7.4 million and net losses down to 1.3 million from 9.4 million. The IVR business is profitable, but it is the new speech business that has yet to break even.

At 16.5p (38.6 million market cap), the company is valued at 18.2 times next year's forecasts, but a couple more large wins for the speech software could significantly transform the company.

* SYSTEMS UNION (SUG) is the developer of Sun Systems and Pegasus accounting software chaired by serial entrepreneur Bob Morton. It ran into trouble a few years ago when, known as Freecom at the time, it made a disastrous acquisition of ecommerce company Oneview, for which it had to write off a massive 100 million.

* SUPERSCAPE (SPS) has been promising jam to investors for so long now that many have given up and walked away. Citywire has followed the company for several years, and now reckons that if 2004/5 is not Superscape's year, nothing will be.

The developer of real-time three-dimensional graphic software originally designed for virtual reality on a PC finally found the perfect market for its technology in the mobile phone space, and particularly for the next generation of mobile phones. The company effectively re-wrote its software for wireless, and in the past couple of years signed a deal with chip designer ARM to embed the software into ARM's mobile phone chips. Significant deals with handset manufacturers and content providers have started to flood in but as yet we have not seen any effects of these on revenues or profits. The last published results in October showed turnover for six months to July of just 94,000 down from 510,000 the previous year with losses down 26% to 3.7 million. However this did not include any revenues from the wireless business.

Since the start of this year the company has announced licence deals with two further brand owners. But there is still a problem with Superscape. Citywire has been talking about its jam tomorrow story for a couple of years now. Research analysts have clearly been driven away from the stock, and even house broker Evolution Beeson Gregory has not written on the stock since September, at which time it was still expecting a 5.4 million loss for the year just closing.

ARM has taken a 12% stake in Superscape and also put substantial research and marketing effort into the deal. There are some very large names being announced as licence partners, and Superscape could be on the cusp of becoming a major supplier of both software and content (sophisticated 3D games in particular) to the mobile industry. If that were to happen, its 34p share price and 42 million valuation could look very cheap in a couple of years time. But we are still waiting to see the money roll in.

Legins - 06 Feb 2004 17:14 - 158 of 195

momentum, given the excellent contract and agreement news, what are your views as to why there is so much selling pressure?

momentum - 06 Feb 2004 18:21 - 159 of 195

Still classed by many as jam tomorrow stock.Anyone who over the past year who bought in sub 25p is still sitting on a tidy profit. Why they are selling is anyones guess, its not vast quantities that are being sold, but its the lack of buying to spport theselling that is forcing the price south, Recent news has not attracted any significant buying interest. It is this that i find disappointing.

xmortal - 06 Feb 2004 22:09 - 160 of 195

qiven the recent news the prices should have passed and stayed at 40p at least. I dont like the way this share is behaving, it is not normal. The 'normal' reaction would be buys as the news have been good. I will wait and see what is the reaction of the market once the next set of company results are out. If the news are good and it does not react 'positively' I mean at least 15% increase then it is doomed. There are other small shares that more attractive.

ehall - 06 Feb 2004 22:21 - 161 of 195

xmortal, ignore short term trades and look at the fundamentals. the results will probably show 1m+ turnover but the past means nothing in this case. SPS is risky, but it has a significant amount of cash in the bank and was suported at 29P by institutions buying 10m worth of shares, recommended by three brokers as a tip of the year (no one else got more than 1) and followed closely by citywire even though they are critical of management. Newsflow is the key, licence agreements with phone companies are even more important. the threat to their position is only a threat if the opposition have their client embedded on the chipSPS has three of the top five, only Nokia haven't signed with anyone and this is the crux, if they sign nokia then it is game over for the competition, anyone developing games for mobiles will develop on swerve, they wont even look at the rest but SPS have to sign nokia!

Legins - 09 Feb 2004 08:06 - 162 of 195

News with Psion & the sale of SymbianOS to Nokia. This could be significant to SPS?

Superscape is listed as being a platinum partner with Symbian. This should become very interesting with the fact Nokia does not want Windows Mobile on Nokia 3g phones. Nokia will need Swerve more than ever IMO.

Will Superscape be able to make some significant news announcements themselves now?

aevansdj - 09 Feb 2004 19:14 - 163 of 195

I hold shares in both Psion and Superscape.Psion has taken a battering today as it seems they haven't got enough money from the sale as anticipated ,of the Symbian OS.

Superscape is slightly down today possibly with that news, although with the news announced recently and the three brokers tips at the begining of the year. I can't understand why it's lost about 20% of it's share price (from recent highs) unless people in the know are bracing for some make or break news.On the trading today there has been a lot of selling which is hopefully down to lowering the price before another buying phase takes place.Who knows it could be on a deal with Nokia now they have an involvement with SPS/Symbian OS.

I believe Nokia have bought Symbian OS with a view to see what type of Company SPS before hopefully signing a deal to use swerve on it's 3G phones.Very shrewd on their part as they can get an insight before committing. Also good timing with all the good news recently about SPS

Marty Boy - 09 Feb 2004 22:16 - 164 of 195

Can anyone tell me why on the trades page today, there are a number of Superscape deals that are unknown whether they are bought or sold

Regards

Marty Boy

Jumpin - 09 Feb 2004 22:36 - 165 of 195

Small companies will have a lot of the trades delayed, so you don't know what was the buy/sell price at the time, and even then don't go by the trades information as that is often incorrect anyway... I have seen several of my 'sells' being reported as buys and vice versa

Superscape To Participate In Europes First Brew Developer Conference
February 11, 2004

Back to press room

Superscape plc, specialists in the development of industry standard 3D technology to deliver console quality, over-the-air (OTA) games on mobile phones, will participate in the first BREW Developers Conference to be held in Europe on Thursday, February 12, 2004 at the Victoria Park Plaza Hotel in London.

Designed to provide a forum for top application publishers, developers, wireless operators and device manufacturers, the Conference will be chaired by Johan Lodenius, senior vice president of European Business Relations for QUALCOMM Internet Services.

Paul Beardow, Chief Technology Officer at Superscape, will be speaking as part of the BREW Publisher/Developer Roundtable section of the programme on Superscapes Swerve 3D technology, which has recently been extended for QUALCOMMs BREW solution. This latest version of Swerve provides BREW developers with the ability to quickly and easily create interactive 3D applications to integrate with other BREW-based services on mobile phones.

Superscape looks forward to this opportunity as weve had a great experience thus far working with QUALCOMM and developing our 3D technology for the BREW solution, said Beardow. QUALCOMM has presented us with a tremendous opportunity to expand our technology offering to operators around the world and were happy to share our positive experience with other content providers in an attempt to assist in the adoption of wireless data services in Europe and around the world.

QUALCOMM is thrilled to have Superscape agree to share their success with the BREW system to this gathering of key players in the European wireless market, said Jan Lezny, senior director of European Business Relations and Operations, QUALCOMM Internet Services. Superscape has demonstrated the ability to take advantage of all the BREW solution has to offer, both technically as well as on the business side. Conference attendees are sure to benefit from this real world case study.

Other speakers at the one day event include representatives from leading operators, Verizon Wireless in the United States, VIVO in Brazil as well as leading content providers including the founder of Electronic Arts and a representative from Sony Pictures Digital, with whom Superscape is already working on the development of a new BREW-based game linked to the newly released S.W.A.T. movie.

QUALCOMM`s BREW system provides products and services that connect the mobile marketplace value chain, which includes application developers, publishers, content providers, device manufacturers, operators and consumers.

Funny that IC says this company has no future when it is working so closely with Qualcomm. These two appear to be the big front runners in 3d mobile games, I'm not sure but with 15m in the bank at the last count and a market cap of around 35m, is 20m too much to pay for a potentially huge winner, you decide. The one thing that is very beneficial for long term buyers and you will have to buy for the long term in SPS, the level of cash really removes the risk for at least two years!

xmortal - 11 Feb 2004 23:18 - 168 of 195

take a look at the volumen traded, definetely is picking up interest compare to the previous years. I think the next set of company results will decide whether the city believes in this punt. I have a good gut feeling it will reach 100p by end of year providing the company meets its targets.

This was released by In-Fusio today. In-Fusio is both a competitor and customer as it recently acquired Cybiko which has a development agreement with superscape. Infusio led a Java Specification Request which was rejected in favour of JSR 184 of Superscape and Nokia. I don't think they have 3d content and so most of the revenues generated which is impressive and apparently profitable is 2d based games. HF2 can work out some projections based on this!

IN-FUSIO ANNOUNCES USD14.4 MILLION REVENUE FOR 2003

- Founded In 1998, The Pioneer In Downloadable Mobile Games Reaches Profitability And Takes Lead In Mobile Game Sector -

Bordeaux, France, February 17, 2004 - IN-FUSIO today announced that it has reached $14,4 million in revenue (Euro11,3 million) for 2003. The company's turnover has more than tripled between 2002 and 2003 and is expected to grow significantly in 2004. This result makes IN-FUSIO profitable despite the cash acquisition of American game development studio Cybiko in November 2003.

Consistently, every month, IN-FUSIO revenues increase by an average of 13%, 1,000,000 game downloads generate seven million premium SMSs and between 600,000 and 700,000 new players join IN-FUSIO's mobile gamers' community.

IN-FUSIO, which was the first company dedicated and focused on downloadable games for mobile phones, has consistently delivered a strategy of unique game services, through an offering based on a portfolio of high quality games (65 to date, developed, published or simply distributed through wireless operators, manufacturers and portals) and the complete management of services to consumers (interactive contest organization, OTA renewable games catalogues, OTA information services about games, etc.) and to operators (service management tools including; games catalogue management, detailed statistics of traffic and players community management).

IN-FUSIO has a strong presence in Europe and China and has begun its expansion in the USA. In order to continue and accelerate this momentum the company, co-managed by Gilles Raymond and Giles Corbett, chose to internalize the majority of its games production, by acquiring Cybiko, which will help sustain an offering of high quality games over the most reputed technologies in the market (Java, BREW, ExEn and Doja).

In 2004, IN-FUSIO will further strengthen its position in Europe and forecasts the continuing success of its service in China (already generating 10% of its total revenues). The USA mobile game market will be a major target where IN-FUSIO predicts it will make significant inroads. In order to help facilitate its growth new funds will be raised to support the development of new Chinese and American subsidiaries.

"Our fantastic results are a clear demonstration of the growth and profitability of the mobile games market as a whole. For five years we have been at the forefront of mobile games and these results today are sure proof of our leadership position. We will continue to innovate and demonstrate our capability throughout 2004, further cementing our position in Europe and China while branching out to the USA," said co-CEOs Gilles Raymond and Giles Corbett.

Thanks to ADVFNfool on iii

I have been digging aroung looking for a link between 20th Century Fox and SPS as they have unofficially announced a tie up for using their IP. Could it be that they are working on Simpson IP from Fox to generate Simpsons mobile i3d content, swerved up of course.

Taken from

THQ Wireless is a world-leading publisher and distributor of games for mobile phones with a current catalogue of more than fifty titles. These include such well-known games as Astrosmash, MotoGP, Snood and Worms. The company has recently been awarded a major worldwide contract with Fox to bring The Simpsons to mobile phones. Agree happy1 mm s have never taken the bid any lower than 31p. yesterday they brought the offer down from 34p to 32p then up to 33p. I took some large june and september bets at 32p plus the premium. 40p- 42p will be where the breakout occurs; just like IMG this week ( very profitable week). Have a look at PDX momentum building for a break within the next week or so.

SUPERSCAPE SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH 20TH CENTURY FOX TO PUBLISH 3D INDEPENDENCE DAY GAME FOR MOBILE PHONES

Superscape Group plc (LSE: SPS), specialists in the development of industry standard 3D technology and applications for mobile phones (branded as Swerve) announces a major publishing agreement with 20th Century FOX Licensing and Merchandising, part of FOX Entertainment, to develop a 3D wireless game based around the well-known Independence Day film.

The new game for mobiles, which will be available in April for BREW-based handsets and July for Java-enabled devices, will be promoted by Superscape to global network operators and handset manufacturers.

Kevin Roberts, CEO, Superscape Group plc said: This is our first agreement with 20th Century Fox, a giant in the world of entertainment. It represents a prime example of our strategy to develop and publish (or co-publish) leading-edge 3D mobile games which bring together the power of our Swerve technology with globally-recognised brands, such as FOXs Independence Day.

Jim Beddows, Vice President of Mobile Entertainment at 20th Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising said: We are keen to accelerate the growth of wireless services based on the wide range of Fox properties, which are perfect for the wireless demographic. We have been impressed by Superscapes ability to develop console quality mobile games for instant entertainment utilising over-the-air (OTA) delivery. The new game being developed by Superscape has all the ingredients that make up a great mobile game high quality graphics and engaging gameplay capturing the essence of a top-tier property, Independence Day.

In the new Independence Day game, the earth is under attack from aliens who are destroying buildings from their spacecraft. A virus has successfully been uploaded to disable the systems in the mother alien ship and now is the time for the cream of the worlds fighter pilots to shoot down the UFOs and City Destroyers before they can wipe out Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Washington, Moscow, New York and London. As each alien City Destroyer is defeated and the city is saved, play becomes increasingly challenging with UFOs becoming more agile and harder to shoot down.

Xmortal I e-mailed the company's investor relations, regarding when their next set of results will be announced and was informed April 2004.

aevansdj - 26 Feb 2004 13:27 - 182 of 195

Does anyone think Superscape is on a big downturn?Or is it just a temporary fall over the last few weeks?I'm puzzled as recent good news hasn't really had the effect you would anticipate. The only real driver seemed to be broker recommendations at the start of the year.
I hope it behaves like Protherics (PTI) did this share fell from a similar position despite good news before reaching recent highs!

xmortal - 26 Feb 2004 16:47 - 183 of 195

I went to a mobile phone shop and asked if the 3D new games are on place, they said NO yet. The latest new phones can only handle 2D games. They also said that it will be sometime before the new phones will handle 3D games. We need to see how these get on on the market but i beleive these will be very popular since it will add value to the phones and nowadays we all want everything in our phones

You know fellow investors; everytime i see the price going down, I think: come on SPS you will not let me down. All the fundamentals are in place, I look the all data price and think: SPS will reach those dizzy height again. The little money I haev put here WILL grow stupid in the next 3 yrs. I will be giggling all the way to the bank. We will get there fellows. Good things comes who those who wait. I am very very positive it will reach 100p by the end of the year. Who else believe this?

aevansdj - 26 Feb 2004 23:52 - 185 of 195

I have e-mailed the Investor Relations Department at Superscape asking questions
about how the 3GSM Conference has gone for them.If there is any plans to make games relating to forthcoming events ieEuro 2004 & Wimbledon as these would be good money spinners as the nation gets gripped by such events.I appreciate licenses soon get snapped up for these things but it was just a thought. It's like the Independance Day game why not X-MEN or Lord of the Rings or maybe Harry Potter?
I agree with the thought's of xmortal but believe marketing games which more people can associate with has to be good for Superscape and likewise investors.
I will have to wait and see if I receive anything back.

SPS will recover, and the drop in price is a good opportunity to Add IMHO. The 3D mobile phones are likely to hit the Asian market before Europe as they seem to have a higher turn around of phones (everyone upgrades at least every 12 mths). SPS may reach 100p by year end, but its I'm pretty confident we'll be above the 12mth high in 3mths.

Can't believe no-one picked it up, and the reason for todays rise is:

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Walt Disney Internet Group (WDIG) today announced a global distribution agreement with Vodafone to provide Disney Mobile services to Vodafone live! customers in 14 international markets. Today's announcement makes Disney Mobile content available to millions of Vodafone live! customers in the following markets: Australia - message board; Egypt; Germany; Greece; Hungary; Ireland; Italy; Malta; The Netherlands; New Zealand; Portugal; Spain; Sweden and Switzerland.

Disney will produce a broad range of mobile entertainment content, including logos, wallpapers, animated wallpapers, MMS and Java Games, that will be offered to Vodafone live! customers. The content will be based both on Disney's classic characters and its latest feature animation and live-action movies, such as Disney/Pixar's "Finding Nemo" and Walt Disney Pictures' "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." The Disney Mobile content will be optimized for preview and selection through "Vodafonelive!" enabled handsets.

"We're very pleased to work with such a significant operator as Vodafone, which provides a great opportunity for even more Vodafone customers to access the Disney magic, whenever and wherever they are in the world," said Mark Handler, executive vice president and managing director, International, Walt Disney Internet Group. "We are pleased to have this global agreement with Vodafone, which shares Disney's vision of empowering consumers by offering them access to Disney magic where, when and how they want it."

Graeme Ferguson, Executive -- Content Development, Vodafone Global Products and Content Services, said: "The agreement with Walt Disney demonstrates Vodafone's commitment to delight its customers with world class mobile entertainment content."

There have been rumours of Vodafone trying to link up with SPS for a while and here it is, DYOR, again this is a very risky share but having your games on the world largest network operators handsets is going to have a major impact. It will hurt the competition and it will probably provide a very strong impetus for nokia to take up swerve if it wants to stay in cahoots with Vodafone.

It has certainly been a volatile ride for the share price over the past two months but the good news is that it is still above where it started the year albeit by 0.5p.

The price moved up sharply following new year tips by the likes of Justin Urquart Stewart but profit takers moved in again when the price hit 40p and the fall in price has since been extended by the sell recommendation in the Investors Chronicle, the move by some shareholders to switch funds to Imagination Technologies and the announcement this week concerning the link between ARM and Ideaworks3D.

However, following the announcements from 3GSM this week, although it is a little disappointing that none were specific to Superscape, they have at least answered one question that was puzzling me and answered another that I did not know existed.

The point that had been puzzling me was why is the market expecting Superscape to have generated revenues of 1.5M last year, with almost all it generated in the final quarter, but is only expecting 4.5M for the whole of the current year.

The answer seems to be that this year is still mainly concerned with the operators putting the infrastructure in place, the manufacturers waiting for this to happen before releasing their new phones and the likes of Superscape and GWE developing their content and routes to market but basically having to wait on the operators and manufacturers.

With this in mind, it seems that the market currently thinks that a share price of 40p is still too high too soon. If this is the case, then fair enough but this view cannot persist for long because events are unfolding rapidly,

For me, the key announcement at 3GSM was the CEO of Vodafone effectively confirming that 3G will be global by the end of the year and, therefore, Christmas this year will be the time to buy that 3G phone. I am more inclined to the view expressed by the CEO of Nokia that the network must be in place before the new phones are made available because without the new network users will not receive a sufficiently enhanced experience to make them conclude that an upgrade to 3G was worth the money.

The question I did not know existed until the announcement concerning Ideaworks3D was this - is it possible to offer a JSR184 compliant solution that does not provide for over the air delivery?

This factor is obviously of immense importance because if the competition cannot offer OTA delivery then Superscape really does have something special to offer and I think I am correct in stating that, to date, only Superscape and HI Corporation have announced solutions that are both JSR 184 compliant and able to facilitate OTA delivery.

The reason why I consider this fact to be of immense importance is that because if I were the CEO of Vodafone with a need to increase my ARPU I can only do it if I have a solution that facilitates OTA delivery.

If I sell a subsidised phone with a game embedded to one of my customers then effectively I pay for the game but once the phone is in the hands of my customer, I would like to make it as easy as possible for him to purchase more games and for this I will need OTA delivery.

The question that all operators should be asking is not so much is your solution JSR 184 compliant but does it facilitate OTA delivery?

The importance of OTA delivery is being highlighted more and more and for those who remain sceptical about the Companys prospects, I would merely point out that if industry giants like Sony, Disney and 20th Century Fox want little old Superscape to co-publish their OTA content then this must be clear evidence that the Company has a competitive advantage.

With regard to the current share price, it was only a few months ago that institutions considered that 29.5p was fair and in business terms, Superscape has moved on considerably since then.

With the current price hovering around this level, the selling pressure from institutions must abate because it is one thing to take profits at 40p when you have been presented with a 40% gain in less than a month but quite another to short this share at your purchasing price given the spread and the fact that news flow is increasing.

Since the beginning of the year there has been some kind of announcement every week on average.

For those shareholders who have switched to Imagination Technologies, it is certainly not for me to tell them where to invest their money but it must surely be worth pondering if, at this point in time and given the respective share prices, the greater benefit is now more likely to be achieved by rebalancing portfolios in favour of Superscape.

When I posted my comments on the EGM last year, I stated that the share offer effectively removed the financial risk to Superscape and by this I meant that there is now no danger of the company running out of money before the emergence of 3G and the colossal potential of the new market for content.

The comments by the CEO of Vodafone at 3GSM now confirms this point and given that Superscape had sufficient cash for 18 months just before the recent share offer, I would imagine that this has been extended to at least two years and probably more given the recent announcement concerning the licensing of games.

Clearly, if I were the CEO of Superscape and was raising money for content development, I would take the opportunity to raise a little extra to give me that two-year cushion to carry the Company through to at least October 2005.

There can be no denying that Superscape will indeed have the opportunity to exploit 3G and the new market for OTA content that will be available to the masses by the end of this year and sooner or later the stock market will have to reflect this fact. However, investors must be aware that if this new market does not turn into the billion-dollar market that analysts are expecting then the Company could still ultimately fail although it must also be acknowledged that with every announcement the market risk to the Company diminishes just a little bit more.

Finally, it is probably worth mentioning that I was talking to the Finance Director after the EGM and noted with interest that he found it a little ironic that the market had taken the share price to over 5 in the past and yet now with the share price at around 30p, the Company has never been in better shape.

xmortal - 01 Mar 2004 21:33 - 192 of 195

Many thanks for this Happy1. As I said earlier once the news capable phones are available the share will move up. One can almost sense how big this company can grow, take a look at any phone shop and look the phone designs and listen to people asking for everything in a phone. the more and advanced the better. take a look at the braket age of the shop visitors, mostly young 15-30. everybody changes phones all the time, it is a trendy thing to have a new state of the art phone. The early fundamentals are in place and the idea is there, SPS has the edge, one can see the contract won by them. Here we will need to be patience. 100p by year end is my prediction thanks

Technology back in favour after Civicas debut
By Nick Hasell
Smaller Capitalisation Shares

AIM followers were heralding a resurgence of interest in technology new issues after Civica, the software house which marked the junior markets biggest flotation this year, jumped 8 per cent in first-day dealings.
The 45 million offering was seen as a test of both investors appetite for IT stocks and the corporate finance skills of Seymour Pierce, the sponsoring stockbroker,m which is typically used to smaller fundraisings. On those counts, Civica which develops software used to process penalty tickets for bus lane and parking infringements was an unalloyed success. The shares, placed at 175p, closed at 189p, giving Civica a stockmarket value of 86 million.

If last years flotations of Northumbrian Water and Center Parcs UK which both raised money prior to admission are set to one side, Civica marks the largest such AIM fundraising since that of PRI Group, the insurer, in June 2002
