AOL E-Mail Problems (AOL)

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 11:06

AOL are not my ISP as I use Onetel.

However, I am experiencing a peculiar "non-communication" from a couple of AOL users.

1. I'm not sure whether they are actually getting my e-mails or not.
2. They do not seem to be replying to me when they most certainly should be doing so.

Anyone else having similar problems?

(Wise cracks will be smiled at but are not really welcome)

Speak to AOL!

Doc - AOL 7.0 user and not having any problems! Send me an internal email if you want and I will reply.

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 11:27 - 4 of 42

skinny

"I would if I could but I can't so I won't" :-)

According to my click on your username, you haven't set up the facility at your end.

skinny - 14 Oct 2003 11:30 - 5 of 42

Doc - thats interesting - if you click on my name in the Traders BB its enabled - but not here - perhaps a good feature!

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 11:45 - 6 of 42

skinny

Yes. I see what you mean.

Have sent an internal AM e-mail to you from the Trader's Room enablement.

skinny - 14 Oct 2003 11:46 - 7 of 42

Reply sent!

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 11:49 - 8 of 42

I read the following on AM somewhere very recently. Can't find it now though but I did make a note:

"AOL are up to their old tricks again, messing up POP3 mail relay and now refusing to deliver certain incoming POP3 emails to AOL members (if your ISP's server has a 'residential dynamic' server listed then there is a good chance you can't email AOL addresses."

I'm not sure what this actually means.

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 11:50 - 9 of 42

No e-mail received yet.

skinny - 14 Oct 2003 11:52 - 10 of 42

Hmmmm - I've had no 'failure' message either!

skinny - 14 Oct 2003 12:03 - 11 of 42

Have now sent 2 emails - 1st via am, 2nd by replying to your email - neither has returned a 'failure' message - which is a tad worrying!

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 12:03 - 12 of 42

skinny

Just to be clear on this;

1. I've e-mailed you through internally the Trader's room enablement.
2. I've e-mailed myself from my own m/c using my Onetel OE account.
3. I've e-mailed myself using my own AM internal enablement.
4. I HAVE RECEIVED my own Onetel e-mail.
5. As I type, I have not yet received anything from you on the AM internal thingy.
6. As I type, neither have I received anything from myself on the AM internal thingy.

Hmmm?

skinny - 14 Oct 2003 12:06 - 13 of 42

Yes - I've also emailed (and received) myself via am.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 14 Oct 2003 12:08 - 14 of 42

docproc - I have sent you a test E mail through MoneyAM - can you let me know if you receive it by posting here?

Thanks

Ian

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 12:09 - 15 of 42

Still nothing here.

Would you please do me a favour and e-mail me direct from your m/c to

execline7@onetel.net.uk

Thanks.

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 12:10 - 16 of 42

IanT

OK I'll let you know.

Nothing as yet though.

skinny - 14 Oct 2003 12:11 - 17 of 42

Done!

IanT(MoneyAM) - 14 Oct 2003 12:12 - 18 of 42

Doc,

Sent it just after my post so should take a few minutes to get through the system.

Thanks

Ian

IanT(MoneyAM) - 14 Oct 2003 12:13 - 19 of 42

Doc,

Having said that I have just received a return to sender for my message saying that your mail address had permanent delivery errors.

Just thought I would let you know.

Regards

IAn

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 12:21 - 20 of 42

Just to confirm that my e-mail is working because I have received

1. Subscription e-mails from 3 sources thus far today.
2. My own test from my own machine to myself as mentioned above.

As I type, still absolutely nothing from AM. I am expecting

3. Skinny AM e-mail
4. My own AM e-mail
5. IanT AM e-mail
6. Skinny direct e-mail

Whilst waiting I will once again e-mail myself from my own m/c using OE through Onetel.

My Onetel - Sent OK
and now my Onetel - Arrived OK

and , wait for it:

6. An e-mail direct from skinny's M/C has arrived.
I AM GREATLY RELIEVED BY THIS. THANK YOU SKINNY!

Nothing else other than those YET though.

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 12:26 - 21 of 42

IanT

:-)

Can you please suggest what I do about the temporary "permanent delivery errors"?

Sheeeesh!

NB. Also, still no other e-mails received other than those already confirmed.

skinny - 14 Oct 2003 12:28 - 22 of 42

Doc - glad it worked - still a bit worrying though (the lack of a failure message) Hmmmm.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 14 Oct 2003 12:37 - 23 of 42

Doc,

I will E mail you directly to see if you get that one - can you please reply if you do?

Thanks

Ian

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 12:38 - 24 of 42

Still no other e-mails received other than those already confirmed.

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 12:39 - 25 of 42

IanT

OK. Will do.

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 12:44 - 26 of 42

Still no other e-mails received other than those already confirmed.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 14 Oct 2003 12:47 - 27 of 42

Doc,

I have just internal mailed myself and all was ok - from what I can ascertain, it seems to be a sporadic problem at your end - I would contact your E mail provider to see if they can shed any light on it.

Thanks

Ian

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 12:52 - 28 of 42

Still no other e-mails received other than those already confirmed.

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 13:01 - 29 of 42

A subscription e-mail just came in - but nothing else.

Lunch calls.

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 13:36 - 30 of 42

MoneyAM's "High Noon" subscription e-mail came in, timed at 13:21

Still no other e-mails received other than those already confirmed.

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 13:45 - 31 of 42

IanT

Just in, timed at 13:42

"Hi Bob,
Can you let me know if you receive this E mail?
Thanks
Ian"

IanT(MoneyAM) - 14 Oct 2003 13:50 - 32 of 42

Doc,

Our E mail does go through a virus scan which usually takes a few minute to complete and then it should arrive in your inbox - however, it should take that long to reach you.

Having said that I did run a test of sending internal mail and it came through very speedily. I would still suggest that the delay is being caused somewhere with your E mail provider.

Regards

Ian

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 14:32 - 33 of 42

Right!

I have now significantly altered:

1. My OneTel.Net Password to my satisfaction. There did seem to be an issue with the doing of this when the "new" password was similarly near to the "old" one.
2. My OE password has similarly been altered.

I'll now do some more tests.

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 14:35 - 34 of 42

I can e-mail myself OK from my own m/c. Nearly "instant speed" at 56k too.

skinny and/or IanT - if you could oblige me with an e-mail, please?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 14 Oct 2003 14:37 - 35 of 42

doc - one sent through internal MoneyAm mail - do you want me to send a regular one as well?

Ian

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 14:38 - 36 of 42

Please.

skinny - 14 Oct 2003 14:39 - 37 of 42

Done.

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 14:41 - 38 of 42

DocProc - 14 Oct 2003 17:17 - 39 of 42

Ian

Rec'd your ian@moneyam.com at 15:40

Thank you guys.

It seems there was a problem and, to some extent, it has been solved. I'm still waiting for replies from the AOL people pertinent to my first post and that looks a bit "wait and see" for me I think.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 14 Oct 2003 18:50 - 40 of 42

Docproc,

AOL have been closing down massively on people who spam there, and as such there are now strict setups which have to be maintained to be able to send email to AOL users.

MoneyAM had fallen foul to this setup a number of weeks ago, and as such were unable to send email to AOL users, but now this has been fixed, we can now communicate with them.

You need to ask the ISP of the people who are sending you the email to contact AOL about their setup to see if they are being blocked.

DocProc - 15 Oct 2003 00:11 - 41 of 42

A tough e-mail day for me and 'Thank you very much' Skinny and Ian for your help.

You might be pleased to know I have now heard from all my AOLers so it does seem that e-mails are now getting through.

One of them says, "Thank you for your e-mail". In actual fact, I have sent this person a total of 7 e-mails. She does not say to which one she is replying.

If I had a problem it seems to now be sorted. If AOL users had a problem, then so does it too.

angi - 15 Oct 2003 11:27 - 42 of 42

Please ring aol to complain.

My first problem was non delivery of daily e mails from digitallook. I complained to them and was told they had been blocked by AOL and could do nothing about it. I then rang AOL and alm,ost immediately the emails recommensed.

I am now missing emails from friends, relatives etc. and maybe many others I don't know about.
