Interesting! I still can't get on to ADVFN.com
Tried a tracert from my pipex broadband connection - gets through to Colts network OK but finally on the 17th hop I get "213.86.59.108 reports: Destination net unreachable"
Maybe it's a DNS problem somewher ? If someone has the correct IP address for advfn.com I'd like to try that direct. The one that comes up from pipex is 212.161.99.160. is that correct?

brianboru, their final hop never responds to pings, it's a common measure against denial of service attacks. Your IP address is correct.

Still no browsing to advfn.com
Installed a packet sniffer and can see my browser sending a request packet (tries 3 times) but there is no response at all from advfn's server. No ACK or anything. Emailed ADVFN support who replied asking me to fill in the support request form on the advfn.com site but as I can't browse there that's not an option! Also emailed pipex support but without reply.
So, I wonder, can anyone else who uses pipex adsl hit advfn.com?

Back in now - did a system restore to a previous date. God only knows what the problem really was, whether it was that or whether it was Pipex doing something that cured it.

I try to connect using the office connection. It sometimes goes in fine but then at some point, I get a zero sized reply error and then that's it, I have to close the browser, wait for a bit and then try again. Any ideas or is the same issue that you are all having?

the floatation has occured of All Ipo and they also have cupidbay, good add revenue and No1 European Stock market site. They have an american BB that is growing and are trying to get the worlds stock market data feeds for access from a single site. Got a feeling this is going to rise quickly, very very quickly.

AllIPO is not trading, nor will it be trading for some time, (not the same as having a stock market quote). Cupidbay.com is - well, see for yourself.
ADVFN is still in the development phase, as was made clear at yesterday's AGM. So for some time, growth and the associated costs will precede revenue growth. This was challenged at the meeting, but the board vigorously defended the present business plan as being the best way forward. So no rocketing profits for the time being was the message.
The board was also reticent when it came to being asked to say if the company was presently trading profitably.
So it is still a "jam tomorrow, hopefully" stock.

Looks a reasonable bet to me, the months are ticking by and the numbers are rising thats good enough with costs under control for now.
ALLIPO will be making money almost immediately once they start trading IPO's and CupidBay is growing daily - broker has also put a 10p target on the shares.

Got a slight feeling this price rise may continue untill next week...the MM's have been caught short of stock and there are big buyers in the market. The MM's want to keep the price down to cover themselves at minimal cost. The large buyers have realised this and are keeping up the pressure, buying any dips. The volume is very good and the mm's need volumes to cover thier books.
This could get very interesting...

Good run this morning. Especially after the online buy size maximum dropped from 250,000 to 75,000. Now it's down to a miserable 50,000. So the market is short of stock, and the price is holding in the face of the after lunch profit takers. So far!
There may not be more today, but buying in advance of the results should keep the momentum going this week and next. Tx traders will be coming in too.
Today's RNS shows that ADVFN is still developing and spreading its wings.

Results next Tuesday. Another little run up today after last week's rise and pull back. Now meeting the usual profit taking.
Advfn is today more of a business than it was a year or so back, so there are yet more grounds for optimism on further progress. See the news over the last year for all the developments.

Results (finals) tommorrow. The share is coming back to life again after a dullish end to last week. A lot of talk bandying 5p as not being too optimistic.

looks like the end of the end for some in the daily mail article - in manchester a few weeks ago someone from MaM let slip that they were working on a number of new projects i wonder after winning the msn deal if they have google in the uk ?
Google empire to move into the money
Daily Mail
21 March 2006
GOOGLE is moving into the world of finance as part of its transformation from search engine to internet money-making machine.
Last night the group unveiled plans to offer Americans stock market news, charts and share quotes - an alternative to the free service offered by Yahoo!.
If successful, Google finance will be shipped to Britain - a bad omen for established online players such as ADVFN, Interactive Investor, Digital Look and Motley Fool.
Having barely survived the dotcom collapse five years ago, each has spent millions recruiting loyal subscribers.
Analysts say Google's move signals a renaissance in internet share dealing.
Its plan is to make stock market information more accessible than it currently is - suggesting the service is being very firmly aimed at retail investors.
