Will only cover stocks bought in the present month the last thread was getting too big and weighted down by one argument on one company. seperate threads are set up for each company from the old thread.
Buys this Month.
Telecolm Plus Results due Friday and has made an excelent start as a new buy. Now through the important 350p resistance barrier.
Sci Entertainment Another company which has an update coming and is up on the buy price. Latest trading update mentioned sales well above budget.
Bema Gold A little gem of a gold miner and has surged on the back of the increasing POG, star of the Month.
Thistle Mining A speculative punt and one which leapt 41% in one day on back of new drilling results. I lopped the top of this one when increase from buy was circa 34%. Rest left in as a gamble on POG.
Caldwell Investments Nothing Spectacular here but still up on buy price. If its good enough for Jim Slater and Evil Knievil, its good enough for me.
CardPoint Latest buy and just ahead of buy price. Been tipped by the Red Hot Penny Shares and also Citywire.
Stocks On The Watch List
Wolfeson Micro, Radstone Technology, Proteome Sciences, Fulcrum Pharma, Severfield Rowen, Deltex medical, M L Labs, NAP - Porvair.
Any comments on the portfolio welcome.
cheers GF.

You must be reading a different thread to me Bri.A rough count of the last 40 posts, only two mentioned current shares, just approx 38 posts attacking or defending another poster. And now you are out to do the same to this thread, please take it somewhere else, and lets get back to talking about shares. Metooxx, brianboru, hopping, thirdeye, looks like more than one or two to me.

Well said tobyjug the jealous crowd always out to dirupt B/boards.
Cardpoint up, Sci Entertainment up and Telecolm plus looks again like on brink of going north.
POG has fallen over night but still expect it to rise from middle of the week.

Danka, starting to pick up in the last few days. Hector Forsythe from EVO BEE GREG estimates that for 2004/2005 pre tax profits to be 30.9 million and thats on a present market cap of circa 93 million, food for thought there. Could be one hell of a bargain but its a long term punt.
Placed on the red hot watch list.
Notice Deltex has fallen today (anna ) if your out there keep your eyes peeled. Seems to be coming into buying range.

GF: An 'interesting' debate between yourself and your detractors. I have no wish to pick a fight with either side, but in real life I have met several subscribers to the Investors' Room. They differ from those who inhabit the Traders Room in as much as they tend to look to the longer term and be more risk averse in general. They may not understand smaller shares can be illiquid, volatile and not suitable - or even elligible - for PEPs, ISAs, SIPPS far less widows, orphans or the generally financially stretched. I fear some folk reading your thread may think your tips are a sure-fire way to make money. Perhaps something to consider? Indeed, maybe it is worth considering moving this thread to the Traders' Room?
Third Eye has a point in as much as tipsheets rarely highlight all the risk factors or go back to their former 'Hot' recommendations to comment on those that have bombed or failed to perform; leaving the impression all their nuggets were gold, while some may turn out to be stone dressed up as gold by those who want to pump and dump their own holdings. Would you consider adding some sort of time frame for holding some of the stocks you highlight?
On a more personal note, I find your contributions fascinating and I would like to see you go into more detail at one of the AM Traders' Meetings. Perhaps focusing on how you identify, filter and ultimately choose the shares you mention on this thread. I've found myself owning a few dogs myself, indeed I consider myself a life member of Crufts some days, so am always keen to hear how others make less of a dog's breakfast of it than I do!

Vasey some good points there and ones I do always try to get over to potential buyers of any of my stock picks. Please check out the Thistle Gold Recomendation, not much more I could do there to actually put people off buying it, shot up 41% in the afternoon of the tip. I always aswell place a time period on the picks, eg, ZOO which i purchased at 2.7p I placed a long term buy notice on, boy did I get some stick from investors on another board, but when it hit 20p I was everyones freind.
I did trade as a pro from early 1994 to feb 2000, and got out of the dot com boom with a fortune, it enabled me to buy my own medium sized business.
I dont really have the hours these days to trade and have to settle for investing and have the help of my own database linked up to my local college where I lecture just a few times a year on the stock market to diploma and degree based students. Also have a lot of contacts in the city and worked at a merchant bank and stockbrokers in my early days.
Will have to go now the other half is calling, nice to have spoken to you.

"I .... have the help of my own database linked up to my local college where I lecture just a few times a year on the stock market to diploma and degree based students."
Is this local college 'degree' one in Economics? I'd love to see some proof on this claim (or any other).
If you are all you claim then your views on the penny shares you bring to our attention may be valuable. If, however, you're telling porkies in order to influence others in their investment decisions then I suspect you would be breaking the law. Please, please just offer a little proof that you are what you claim and I will become a disciple.

Brianboru. Bearing in mind that no one(particulary some one in GFs position)should give out personal details on the net, what form of proof could be given that would satisfy you and your gang? I suggest none.Any proof given would just be dismissed as lies by you,and further demands for proof would follow. And so on and on it would go.

tobyjug - I find it very difficult to believe that someone who is, according to himself, a qualified accountant with a degree in economics, has serious contacts in the City and who also worked as?/at? a stockbroker and a merchant banker (now that one I do believe) would have the slightest interest in promoting the type of small (tiny) company shares this guy constantly covers. I also find it difficult to believe that anyone who genuinely held those positions would be as crass as to mention their achievements. Some proof ought to be forthcoming or he ought not to mention his aghem 'qualifications'. The FSA may judge that, if they are not genuine, he is committing an offence by misleading potential investors.
You also say "(particularly some one in GFs position)"
What pray, is his position? Please clarify.
Also I do not have, or belong to, a gang. I do not like rampers of any sort. It's a personal position.
You should put up or stop mentioning your 'qualifications'.

BrianBoru, please by all means go ahead and contact the FSA, I will be delighted to present any information they require.
And please do not forget as this would involve costs i would have to have my solicitors present and a counter claim would be sought against you.
I leave the ball in your court as you seem so confident and hell bent on it.

So, let's revue this. Are you a qualified accountant and economist as your profile claims?
Do you also have "the help of my own database linked up to my local college where I lecture just a few times a year on the stock market to diploma and degree based students. Also have a lot of contacts in the city and worked at a merchant bank and stockbrokers in my early days."
A simple yes/no will do. That, I'm sure will satisfy everyones curiosity. As for the FSA I'm sure they are capable of, and do, read BBs without my prompting.

I hate to interrupt the flow here chaps, but as far as I am concerned, GF did bring CASH and CUC to the attention of others and CASH is up almost 7% this morning alone.
I have no interest in checking his qualifications, finding out whether or not he owns a dog or even discovering if he can swim. He could be covered in scales and have horns and a 6-foot tail if he can identify a couple of small growth companies.

Personally I think GF dedicates a lot of time researching , and passing on the info, more then the other one is capable of doing, it seems
that his only capability is to attack GF and whoever has a nice word for him..
each one DYOR then decide, no one is forced to do anything against his/her will, so why blame GF? (Jealousy???)
Now that you GF have started a new thread, and the administrator gives a worming, about time too, to the trouble makers, lets hope to have this thread as its meant to be info, quality posts and respect for all opinions, and above all dont lets forget that MoneyAM has invested time and money to have a quality website dont let a few ruined it.
Hoping there wont be any more personal attacks and lets live in harmony
GF keep up the good work

Just one problem I have with gf, and that is he posts on all the various bulletin boards with his stock picks - which he has already bought in to. So, if he manages to persuade a 'following' that he has made mega bucks out of the stock market and that his stock picks are going to make money, then people will buy on his recommendation - thus making him richer. Like a lot of people in life, if you keep boasting how good you are at anything - then some people will believe you. Personally I think if you are really good at anything then you don't need to keep telling the whole world how wonderful you are. jmop

Scottie, havent bought into Yamana Gold yet, was the same case with Bema, also same with Incite, to suggest I buy in first in all cases is just not true. If I buy in and find that the story and future gets better why not share it with others. I have stocks in my portfolio that I think will outperform in the future, but to recommend them now would be silly. I think thats responsible.
I dont tell people I am good as you say, its others that do that in fact on another board I wiped off the thread because I was embarassed by the number of compliments I received.
Scottie theres plenty out there, hundreds in fact who give their opinion on certain stocks on all boards. Please remember I dont have a monopoly. Perhaps Im just lucky at stock picking, I certainly arent lucky in any other aspect of life.
Hi hope theres no hard feeling here.
Good luck and cheers GF.

I know GF doesn't like to have praised heaped upon him (come on mate, it's better than insults!), but I would just like to let the people on MoneyAm know that GF does not simply post his share picks, but he has in fact helped me immensely by posting articles, thoughts & comments about investment strategies, value/growth investing, creative accounting, how to analyse & value companies and so on.
Without his advice (on the Share Crazy site) I would not be in the position that I am in now. The position I am talking about is not a financial one, but a position of greater knowledge & understanding. I now know how to comprehensively research my own stocks, something very few BB posters are able to do well. I have done this by listening, watching and learning from GF.
I suggest that newcomers read all his stock picks, even if you are not interested in the stock, there is still a lot you can learn from him.
Praise over, get back to work Roger, you lazy old sod! ;-p

I stayed away for few days, manly for business, and partially got a bit fed up for all the bickering around some threads....
Arrived back here to ask GF that he left JCR out from his picks..
GF if you left it out on purpose because I believe is the most trouble cause shares, from a third party I personally dont agree, because I am a JCR holder, like me there are other, and as such I like to hear your opinion and news....
I am here to say that yesterday (tuesd.) the MM tried a treeshake with very little result, my brokers left me a message (I was in a meeting most of the day) if I wanted to sell 10K at 13p when the bid was at 11p (that is why I think there isnt many available) mainly now are long term holder..
and strange enough who realised them? A friend of mine because wanted a spare cash(so he told me in the evening) otherwise.
(can easily been checked , because he sold them via Milan....)
Any way I thought you and other JCR holder might like to know it, maybe is time to add some more... what do you think?
lets now hope to carryon talk about shares and not the posters

The warning by the manager was a general warning to all INCLUDING goldfinger.
So lets put it away now.
As regards your other post asking for opinions on JCR I feel that the price now reflects the true worth of this company and is hardly an active stock as approx only 6,000 shares changed hands yesterday and I find it incredible that a broker would phone around for 1,300 pounds of stock.

If you look properly at my post (37) I quote yesterday (TUESD.) if you will be so kind and look at the TUESDAY trading closed with 142.415 volume...... So if you contest on a diferent day we will never agree....isn't it?
If you like to contact the London (I don't know the English procedure)stock market board, and ask if there was some selling from Milan... see what they say.... why should I post something if not true? IF you are not in JCR why bother to carryon about it?
Any way I hope I answer all your questions..

Opened new postion in NCHIPER NCH. IT tech security play. A momentum investment punt for me which is rather unusual but the stock at around its present price is only just over its net current assets of 38 million at 30/09/2003. US customers have defered orders but with the growth figures coming from across the pond this week and business acivity picking up in general I thought at this price the stock was too cheap to overlook. Market cap circa 42 million.

Thank for the analyse. I don't post much but appreciate to read your view on things. Been in CASH, and PCI (tipped by the other good half of SLATER)and am being in profit in both. Not for the first time, observing what is said on SC and here and ADVFN (FAR2).
Could you pls explain what mean by "You watch with 10 days to go before the shut down they will tank everything up, why" in post 64
Last, could you please share your view on PHS, and AEA technology (AAT) and AXON group (AXO). I kind of liking the prospect of PHS, but wonder AAT could be a strong, long termer enjoyment. PHS risen already 8%, later two were retracing, and start to bounce so would it be good time to join?
Thanks in advance

Opened two speculative new positions today and both are momentum plays, so I wont be doing any research in depth.
Firstly I bought into Bioprogress BPRG as I think the price today on news of the placing has gone south too far and I hope to see them moving north again soon.
Secondly I opened a new position in Gaming Corporation GMC online casino operation as I have been told that Evil K has gone long today and thinks the management are top class and sees the price moving much higher. Evil K has been getting some excelent returns from his longs this year.
please dyor.

Think its a game of patience with I D Data. I am hoping as ever to hear that the big Banks are now ordering the new cards. Up date, shouldnt be far off.
Thistle mining I have already made a profit on these and the others are there for free. There is supposed to be a production update anytime. Problem with this one is the relationship between the rand and the dollar. Edited, the update slipped past me it was on the 2nd. Profits turned into a loss and rand affecting the companys results. There are some positives in the report for the future but I will now sell the remaining holding.
Gaming Corporation is getting news up and down the boards tonight. Talk of several big buyers going in. Well I certainly know Evil K has just purchased 100,000.

Following on from GFs GMC tip, it has also featured in today's Shares
mag!...
Evil Knievil buys into Gaming Corporation
Legendary short-seller Simon 'Evil Knievil' Cawkwell is understood to have
taken a stake in online gaming firm Gaming Corporation (AIM:GMC) as part of
its latest placing.
Cawkwell, perhaps best known for spread betting against stocks rather than
investing in them, has taken a sub-3% stake in Gaming as part of the
company's recent 520,000 placing, which increased the equity by 19.5%.
Other new investors include the Marlborough Special Situations fund, managed
by Giles Hargreave, and all the company's executive directors increased
their holdings.
Hargreave's Special Situation fund is the second fund with a link to the
Marlborough name to invest in Gaming, as M D Barnard, which manages
Marlborough's UK Equity Growth Fund, had a 9.37% stake before the placing.
The money was raised in order to build a small war chest to look at UK-based
companies in the sector to acquire, as well as to meet a certain level of
institutional demand.
Taking the net proceeds of the placing, and the company's cash balance as at
the end of September, it gives the company an acquisition fund of around
700,000.
The company - which owns the casino.co.uk domain name among others -
recently reported reduced pre-tax losses of 733,534 against 2.51 million
last year.
House broker Evolution Beeson Gregory has no numbers in the market place at
the moment, although it is understood that the company's operating division
is now profitable on a month-by- month basis.
One to watch.

Now if the price of POG does tank beleiveve me there are so many shorters lined up for it and thats a fact and guess who is the target, yup you guessed right Oxus and shortely followed by Avocet which I own and I have to say feel uneasy about.
OK and I hope like a lot of Gold Bugs we go on to $600 but I dont see it that way. Already the european idiots are talking about devaluing the the EURO to suit the French and the Germans.

Goldfinger,
Well I really don't think "every Tom, Dick, and Harry" are in Oxus to be honest.
Oxus hardly merit much of a mention outside mining circles, and certainly aren't being pushed in the investment magazines, and looking around the BB's, there are few posts on the Oxus threads, and probably no more than on the Avocet threads. I would say that there are few "next big thing" investors in Oxus at all, most are the usual names that invest in mining stocks.
In fact I think most of the people invested in Oxus have a balance between them and Avocet, as indeed I have.
Oxus have a seriou s amount of assets, that are growing every day the gold price rises, so it would be a brave or foolish man that shorted these, IMHO.
Gold is clearly in an uptrend, for the moment at least, as is silver, and other base metals.
Avocet, are perhaps the cheapest mining stock on the LSE, so with gold in an uptrend, it's hard to see these two falling by much, at the moment at least.

I've been an Oxus shareholder since the beginning of February, and I certainly didn't have a clue about "the ins and outs of mining" when I bought it! One of the great things that has struck me about holding these shares is that it seems to attract very few 'Toms, Dicks, and Harrys'! There's a lot of solid support out there from shareholders who have a lot of faith in Bill Trew and Co., and it's only in the last few weeks that 'Joe Public' have latched on to Oxus - perhaps the fact that it was tipped in Shares Magazine recently had something to do with that. Anyone who shorts this share right now must have a few screws loose and will get his ass seriously burnt imop!

Scottie,
I have to agree, Bill Trew is establishing himself in the city, and he has delivered the goods so far.
It would appear Goldfinger is trying to gently deramp Oxus, and frighten people in a very subtle way here!
Don't worry, I have every confidence in both Oxus and Marakand, and I seriously doubt anyone will be shorting them!

Personally I'm not really interested in columns, but facts. Facts are that Oxus has out-performed Avocet over the last few months. Facts are that Oxus is far less volatile than Avocet. Facts are that with the gold pour imminent and the 'dividend' announcement from Oxus due in the next few weeks all the columns you want to produce are about to go ass over tit! Get my drift? This aint a ramp - just facts!

Notice to the Gold Community
Author: Jim Sinclair
In terms of positive internal numbers, this gold move still has the mind-blowing, bullish potential it exhibited at $342 - both in the long and the short term.
This particular condition is a rare event which I saw only a few times in the bull market of the 70s. In fact, we could be heading for $529 right here and now.
Kenny Adams and I have strong feelings about the potential for a major move in gold and we firmly believe this is the "Big One."
When a reaction occurs, as it always does within a major move - be it in the 420s, 430s or even 450s - the gold bears will think they have finally succeeded.
Such a reaction will just be another "bear trap" as they've been since gold traded at $342. The reaction will be swift before it reverses again and moves upward to make even higher highs.
So if you reduce your positions into strength along the upper ranges of the Power Up Trend channels or by any other TA signal such as a French Curve completion and then internal indicators, be prepared to re-enter swiftly at lower levels.
As we informed you at $342, this is a major move that remains fully in place now at $407.50 versus February Comex gold.
To those gold bears, including producer hedgers, carry trade wise guys and simple gold shorts who are still entertaining enormous short positions, we wish you no harm. However, if you don't cover, you are going to be royally flattened and possibly bankrupted.
You are standing directly in front of a runaway freight train which from both a technical and fundamental perspective looks more like a raging bull than anything we've seen in recent history.
In this case, the light at the end of the tunnel is a freight train and it's heading directly towards you.

Please dont get me wrong, I hope POG does go through the ceiling and In fact I am long of Bema, Avocet, Golden Prospect, and Yamana and will be going into my first explorer in the morning, one which I feel has massive potential.
I just think that one has to take stock of the situation when markets boom like this. I for one feel, well know that a lot of non - mine orientated investors have jumped on the band waggon on Oxus and avocet and if POG was to tank I would be out of these two companies as quickly as possible.

Looking around the other shares I hold I think selling Service Power was the correct thing to do at the time yesterday, I will be keeping them on the radar though as some of the statement was very pleasing indeed.

Contrary to what a lot of people think Sooze, Market makers make their money through TURNOVER wether it be Buys or Sells or a combination of both. The inexperienced punter comes into the market place feeling that the normal Economic laws of Supply and Demand dominate, at times nothing could be further from the truth. But beware of a tank up in prices usually in the 10 days before the year end, bonuses are at the back of some City employees minds and we usually get an xmas hike drawing in buyers.
cheers goldfinger.

Director Buying going on at TT Electronics.
TT bosses celebrate buy with buys
By Graeme Davies, Companies Correspondent
Email to a friend
Two top directors have shown their faith in Citywire tip TT Electronics following its acquisition of an American electronic sensor company on Friday.
Executive chairman John Newman spent 124,200 on Friday to add 100,000 shares to his holding at 124.2p per share. However this is barely a drop in the ocean compared with his total holding of 16.2 million shares or 10.5% of the 193 million company (TTG).
Joining Newman was Neil Rodgers, the chief executive-elect who joined the board in September. Rodgers, who was previously a divisional chief executive, spent a more modest 12,200 for his first 10,000 shares at 122p each. Rodgers will replace chief executive Sheridan Comonte in April.
Shares in TT have risen 1.5p to 126.5p today in response to the confidence shown by the top brass. Earlier this year it dipped as low as 80p but has since bounced to 139p. Citywire tipped it more than a year ago at 116p and reiterated the advice at 96p in January.
A prime reason for Citywire's confidence was the healthy dividend yield, which stands at 8% and although it is not covered by earnings Newman told Citywire on Friday the board intends to honour it.
Concern was raised that the 30 million TT spent on US electronic sensor company Optek Technology would eat into the funds available for dividend payments. Newman said: It is not changing our thinking on our dividend payment.'
Hopefully for TT investors trading will start to improve to complement the extra revenue brought in by Optek and on Friday Newman told Citywire: 'I'm now saying there is an upturn in orders and I think it is sustainable.' Last year Optek made sales of 40.4 million in the year to the end of January 2003 and a profit of 2.4 million.

Gf,
Some of the AIM stocks that have had such a good run all seem to be treading water or turning downwards.
Maybe the good times are over for AIM this year at least?
I only feel confident about gold stocks at the moment, and even they are retracing, although after such a run I guess that was inevitable.
Thirdeye,
When these new MM's are dealing in the Ofex, are we going to see online trading via the main online brokers in your opinion?
Once their is real competition and online trading, Ofex will gain critical mass, and at last have proper liquidity in my opinion.

Approx 4 mm's including Winterflood's should be ready by spring, they have also got Simon Brickles who did so much for AIM on board, in my opinion Ofex will start to acheive the growth that AIM has & stocks will definately become more liquid.....They expect at least 5 mm's by 2004 end.
As for online, I think you will, may not happen straight away, but I think a lot are going to sit up & take notice of Ofex, the (Ofex)share price has doubled from it's low of 15p.

ThirdEye,
well it does appear they are having a push on Ofex, as it seemed to be dying on it's feet, and IMHO the lack of liquidity and online trading killed it's potential.
To be honest, online trading is what will really bring it to life, and should be considered as soon as possible.
Simon Brickles is an excelleent catch, and will increase people's perception of Ofex as a serious market.

I think it will all happen, the critics have made valid points, Ofex will become as AIM is now if not better if (Likely) the new European legislation takes place.....in fact I think that is Why Simon Brickles has moved, as he is convinced it will.
(See Ofex itself & or Ofex announcements for explanation of the European L)

GF, ThirdEye,
I agree , their website is very poor, and desperately needs improvement.
With regard to the Europeans, yes this could well be the reason why everyone is getting into position, the AIM will be finished if they have their way, and it will either be LSE or Ofex.
Personally I cannot see why they want to do this, all the UK markets seem to be in order, and IMHO there's no compelling reason to regulate AIM any further than it already is.

Indications are that they will have transparent bargains buys & sells just like AIM with Level 2 etc, so I would have thought an upgrade would be on the cards.

Hi GF
Don't know if you're still holding IDD but interims due next Thursday 18th Dec -do you have any idea on what to expect? Also, I DID buy Northgate and on the same day as great results came out, prompt suspension of trading as they're involved in a reverse takeover which if successful, takes them into the FTSE250 but am with bated breath until suspension lifted to see what shares do.
Would appreciate your feedback on IDD (and on NIS if you have one!)

Blois , sorry mate been out all afternoon at a clients xmas party just got back now. Cardpoint as an excelent management and growth is fantastic, I would buy it at anything under 110p.
Hi anna, I D Data still holding just, and getting a little frustrated but it would be daft to sell before the results. I am hoping for those Bank contracts to be included in the results, if we dont get them then I may sell.
On Northgate I S, I am rather bullish and I know it as had a bumpy past with defered contracts etc, but Tom Winnifrith and more importantly Colin Blackbourne are massive fans and continue to pump the stock and quite rightly.
I also rate Joanne Wallen as one of the better tipsters around and this is her summing up on the stock.............
Tip Update: Northgate Info transformed by Rebus deal
Published: 10:39 Thr 11 Dec 2003
By Joanne Wallen, Associate Editor
Email to a friend
Anyone that followed our tip of Northgate Information Solutions last year should be pleased following yesterday's better than expected results and news of a 'transformational' acquisition that will double the size of the company.
Shares were suspended yesterday at 51p pending the acquisition of Rebus, a personnel software company that processes some 30% of the UK's payroll. Citywire tipped the shares last year at 26p, and highlighted the opportunity again after they fell in January following a profits warning, to 20.25p.
Northgate, which last year sold its healthcare software business to Isoft (also reporting strong figures yesterday) has taken an exclusive option for 5 million to acquire Rebus HR Group for an undisclosed amount but one that would value Rebus, including debt, at around 150 million. At the time of suspension this morning, Northgate's market capitalisation was just over 148 million.
Due to the size of the two companies and their respective earnings, the transaction would be handled as a reverse takeover.
As Citywire has reported, Northgate chief executive Chris Stone has been looking for an appropriate acquisition for some time, and he is extremely 'excited' about this one.
The company did make a couple of small purchases earlier in the year, including emergency services software provider Blue 8, Cara Payroll Group and Hays Consulting & Solutions, and today's results for the six months to October show some of the benefits of the increased business.
However, if the Rebus deal goes ahead, it will clearly make a huge difference to the scale of the business.
After the disposal of the healthcare business, Northgate said it would focus on three core areas, human resources (HR), local government and the emergency services.
If the acquisition goes ahead, it will combine Rebus with its existing HR business to give it significantly increased scale, and says it has identified some significant cost savings.
On the trading front, Northgate has recovered well from concerns at the beginning of the calendar year with a strong first half to October.
Turnover was up 28% to 50.6 million, including a 7.4 million contribution from acquisitions. Operating profit from continuing operations, before exceptional items and amortisation of goodwill, rose to 2.4 million from 1.2 million and adjusted basic earnings per share were up 66% to 0.73p.
Unlike the beginning of 2003, when Northgate issued a profits warning because contracts it expected to close by its year-end were slipping, the company said that during the closing weeks of the half-year 'a number of significant contracts were signed earlier than expected.'
Citywire Verdict:
The company now has a strong position in each of its three main markets, police/emergency services, local government and HR, with plenty of organic prospects in each.
Clearly the acquisition of Rebus, if it goes ahead, will take some digesting, but it will transform the HR side of the business.
Northgate owned the significant healthcare business until last year, so there is no reason to suggest that it will not be able to adequately adapt to the enhanced scale of the business including Rebus.
At the suspension price, the shares were trading at just 12.6 times next year's earnings, so with the addition of Rebus they are likely to gain considerable momentum when they start trading again. This may present profit-taking opportunities, but I would seriously consider holding onto a stake for what should look like a healthy longer term proposition.ENDS.
Certainly a hold, and maybee an add. Best watch what it does after coming back to market.
See our helth/bio stock is coming in range of buying , just a couple more pence.
Have a good weekend all, and dont get too drunk. Wait while xmas really starts.
cheers Goldfinger.

Hi GF
Thank you SO much for all the above - yes, will wait for IDD results and just hope its not something that will send the price further south; and there seems to be mixed opinion re Northgate of which the bones are that even if not good short term when the suspension is lifted but great for long term.
And no, haven't bought DEMG as just don't have the cash flow but that should change in the new year.
Enjoy your weekend - I'm making no promises about not getting drunk!

My take is gold will be down, as will oil, and other minerals, and techs and the rest will have a good day.
I just can't see it lasting long, the troubles in Iraq are still there, and won't go away just becuase he's been captured, although they may eventually cease earlier now he's out of the equation.

Hi anna, thanks for your reply.
No I havent seen the report fom this Bourke Guy, but I can probably predict what he is saying. I always beleive there is two sides to the coin and bourke is pumping his. These shorters tend to be very inteligent brainy people very much wraped up in what they are doing, and thats the problem as they dont seem to be able to see ' both sides of the coin' and cant move from their stance.
Gladly Evil Knievil can, and one of the main pointers which promted him to move from a Bear stance to a Bull stance on the markets was the World Ship Freight tonnage rates which abour 8 weeks ago had moved up massively showing that the World Economy was on the move again.
I say well done Evil and well done the World. I beleive we will have a rocketing market in the morning and I think we all know why.

Hi Moneyplus glad to see you hold some of mine, but im not going to dwell on that, I just ask everyone to hold a balanced portfolio go for a football 11 formation with a 4 4 3 at the moment.
3 attackers TMT stock
4 midfielders, service sector, chemicals, healthcare, envoiremental stocks etc
4 defenders, food manufacturers, food retailers, large oil and Gas suppliers, and utility companies.
This can be doubled up to two teams if you have a large portfolio.
It does help to offset risk and on bad days things dont seem to depressive.
Stick in there for the big rise in the morning.

Anna, just found it re- icebergs etc. Yup seen these kind of write ups many times in the last 6 months. What this guy is saying bottom line is that stocks are overvalued at present, but what he isnt seeing is the much improved growth rates that are coming through in both the US and here. 8.5% forecast US, 3% here.
When the earnings are registered the P/Es will fall back and thats why it is a stock pickers market at the moment. Lets face it all the ripe fruit were picked from the lower branches of the tree in early June to late July, but theres no need for concern within the markets. I do beleive we will see a rebasing in the early part of next year when the results start flowing through.
Theres also the exciting prospect of OFEX which I have now warmed to competing with Aim, which should give us more choice and greater satisfaction if they get there act together from May onwards.

GF,
Well I am surprised, because i read it the other way!
Personally I thought gold held up well today, and fought back earlier losses well, and finished with strength.
I think US$ is in a downtrend, and they (FED) want it to devalue, and their actions are working towards a lower $ value, to ease their debt burden.
US figures out tomorrow, and maybe a further $ fall if they are bad.
I am more bullish re gold tonight compared to this morning, and am looking to top up existing holdings, and possibly a decent new play, if I can find one.
i am convinced 2004 will be gold's, silver's, and other commodities year!!!

Testex,
Not sure i go long with the $800 theory, and everyone seems to have a target, but i personally doubt a DOW rally next year, and see gold as a defensive play in a financially uncertain world.
As the US$ loses value, people are seeing gold as an alternative, and i believe the US authorities are going to allow the $ devaluation to continue, so i see gold travelling higher next year.

I think yes we will see gold going higher next year up until we get the first US interest rate Increase probably around August/September. Dont forget its presidential elections in the US next November. The Bush camp will want a strengthening of the dollar going into those.
On a seperate point dont forget aswell that China is a big buyer of the Yellow stuff as is all the eastern world.
cheers GF.
pretty good day on the markets, with TT electronics the only one letting the side down. Lets see if we can sort that out in the morning.

GF,
Not too sure they would want a strengthening US$, it seems that all their policies are designed to weaken it!
I think US is very happy to see a strong Euro and weak $, as not only does it ebable them to sell their goods and services cheaper and easier, but also profits being repatriated to the US are worth more, thus increasing company earnings.
I really don't think there'e too much room for anything more than modest interest rate increases, given the level of corporate and personal debt in their economy personally, it would be very painful, and just before an election could be suicidal!
goldfinger
- 19 Dec 2003 23:55
- 157 of 193
I andy, I really wasnt thinking of a big increases in interest rates. Like you say modest ones will be used to keep inflation down and perhaps boost US tourists abroad which always gives the feel good factor a boost.
Well onto the general stock market and I honestly cant remember one so bad at xmas for a long time. It seems to be taking on the same traits as the retail sector. I think we will be in for a last minute rush, but its not been very good.
Perhaps next year is the year consumers tighten their belts and start to repay back some of the huge debt they have raked up. One reason I will probably be staying out of the consumer sector.
Please have a good weekend and dont get too drunk. Xmas is only a few days away theres plenty of time yet.

Totally agree re the retail sector, one to stay well clear of in 2004 IMHO.
Possible exception may be Peacock's, which serves the lower end of the market, and will probably be less hit by a slowdown than others.
Not sure about UK consumers starting to clear down their debt, according to an article I was just reading, they're borrowing more than ever!

affc21,
I put my shareclub into Cardpoint a while back, and I think we'll probably top up again this month.
Personally I can't imagine why people are so willing to pay 1.50 to draw their money out of a cash machine, when others are free, (I certainly don't), but obviously I'm not complaining!
goldfinger,
"SC"? Who are they please?

- 28 Dec 2003 08:53

Andy
I think it's laziness or convenience.
I would normally refuse to pay to take money out, but I normally find myself doing so when there is nothing else around. For example when I go bowling or to an arcade, to get to a free machine normally means me going outside and walking. I think alot of thought is put into where they are placed!
Andy
- 28 Dec 2003 10:25
- 173 of 193
sharehappy,
Yes I think you're right there!
For example, one of my local pubs now has a cash machine in the bar!
Personally I think that's going too far, and it looks awful, but I guess people use it or it wouldn't be there!
And yes, clearly they think out very well exactly where the machine may attract customers, and my local supermarket now has one inside, saving you the trouble of visiting a cashpoint before going shoping, and some people don't seem to mind paying for the convenience.
I have only ever paid a fee to withdraw money a couple of times, and would not do so unless I had to, but clearly a considerable amount of people don't have the same resistance to fees as myself, and for that reason, Cardpoint does look like a decent growth stock.
IMHO Cardpoint is a buy and hold.

Ok fair enough.
Re Cardpoint, your's is the perfect example of a Cardpoint customer, and that's why they are prospering.
The location is clearly key, and whilst I do wonder if they can continue to find decent new ones, I guess most bank cashpoints are in the town centres, in the high streets, and there are opportunities in busy areas away from there to install machines that will enjoy heavy useage.

Ousted Tomkins chief prepares for a comeback
John Waples
THE entrepreneur Greg Hutchings, who was ousted as chief executive of Tomkins, the industrial conglomerate, nearly three years ago, is preparing to make a stock-market comeback.
Some bankers believe Hutchings is in talks to inject capital into a stock-market minnow called Lupus Capital, which is capitalised at 14m.
In October Hutchings considered a bid for Bodycote International, the heat-treatment and coatings company that issued a profit warning earlier this month. He teamed up with John Chesworth, Bodycote’s former chief executive, but the plan was aborted.
Hutchings left Tomkins after revelations about his use of corporate jets and household expenses, but an investigation by Ernst & Young said he had not breached corporate-governance standards or the law. Hutchings has remained bitter about his treatment. Friends said it paled into insignificance against corporate scandals that have been uncovered since. It is thought Hutchings is keen to repeat the success he enjoyed at Tomkins. Over 17 years he turned the company from a shell into a FTSE 100 business. In the process he made a lot of money for himself and investors, and he retains a City fan base.
If the talks with Lupus are successful, it is expected Hutchings will take an executive position on the board. Since the beginning of the year Konrad Legg, chairman of Lupus, has been tidying up the group’s balance sheet. Its debt has fallen from 3.8m to 300,000 and it is selling Gall Thomson, a specialised couplings business.
Hutchings is not the only former “conglomerate king” who is returning to the stock market. Chris Miller, David Roper and Simon Peckham, who in the 1990s turned Wassall, a mini-conglomerate, from a 2m company into one worth 627m, have returned to the quoted arena with a company called Melrose Resources.
The three entrepreneurs sold Wassall in 2000 to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, the private- equity firm. At Melrose they intend to acquire British manufacturing and industrial companies in need of improvement.
Hutchings still holds a big personal stake in Tomkins from which he receives a large dividend cheque. When he left, Hutchings agreed an out-of-court settlement whereby he took shares worth 6m and was given 300,000 for legal costs. He also received a 500,000 supplement to his pension.

Yup and doing very well this morning Gordon. Good piece that.
In fact all the recos are doing well this morning with a much needed return to form for the gold stocks. Evil K said in his last web cast that he saw POG going on for $500 by the end of this year.
Two stocks I reco'd on another site have done well this morning, Henlys is just soaring along and Danka is another looking good for a few points up.
Not really getting back until next monday as apart from gold stocks I feel that we are seeing some false positioning and will do untill into the new year on low volumes and window dressing by instituions.

In reference to an earlier post on CASH as to where else they are going to find places to put machines I was at Haydock races today - and the queue for the one there was immense. Having mentioned this to my wife who is a library manager, she informed me that they have been having discussions about putting them in libraries. Since starting to look at this share I seem to see new machines everywhere. (FYI - I do not hold these, though am looking to purchase).

Certainly worth Buying Fundamentalist, a licence to give out money and make a profit.
In general what a fantastic day. Centurion and Bema being the pick. In fact its been a real cracker.
I would though if you need the money after a bruising xmas spending, lop the top and take some profits because you can be sure others will.
Im in for the long term unless I have placed a momentum tag on the share.
Nice to see Just Car Clinics back in the money along with Bond International and Bioprogress.
In the morning I do think we will see profit taking on the small/medium caps. But it could turn positive later in the session if the US carries on this strong rally.
Good look and cheers GF.

Well a cracking start today on the tips. Telecolm plus as gone mad and Centurion is still rising. TT Electronics just needs to get above 140 and then its into a gap. Cardpoint is up, been a little profit taking, and Id Date and Bond are on the rise.
Gold stocks Bema and AVM also doing nicely.
Thought it was going to bee a dull two and a half days. Thats the beauty of the stockmarket, it does exactly what you dont expect.
Sees you later.
cheers GF.

Quite start to the day. TT Electronics now gliding in a gap up and Centurion slightly up. Hoping cardpoint stays above 100p.
One to have a look at, Vanco the telecolm specialist. Now broken above 300p and looks strong. Will be doing further research on this one.
cheers GF

Sold Bond today and it was a hard decision, probably will be proved wrong, but Ive made a nice return on this one and Im looking for more solid plays at the moment.
The terror threat in the US and indeed all over the World means I will be going out of the few momentum plays I had and high beta stocks, into more solid and some defensive situations.
cheers GF.

Vanco seem to be a popular choice at the moment, as well as Telecom Plus, and i may pick a bombed out tech for a pure punt.
The one that may come good i feel is Motion Media, and a couple of orders would convince me, so keeping a beedy eye on this one.
Another one to watch in my opinion, is Wolfson Microelectronics, again a pure punt, as not too much is known about their long term prosects yet.
Hope you all had a good new year!!!

I aimtrader, yes Vanco does look like an excelent growth stock.
Motion Media, sorry not for me too many ifs and buts.
Wolfson, on my watch list above and damd I missed it at 148p, thought it would go lower after a analyst said he thought it was overpriced. Never mind you cant win them all.
cheers GF.

How about EXR for the short term??. I know they posted poor FY results, BUT few directors have purchased some shares, PLUS the trend and some decent buy volumes suggest there is an upward movement coming soon and quite steep too. I will purchase some in case. Thanks

Motion Media is on the cusp I think.
Either they secure orders, and go on to become a sucessful company, or they will run out of funds around June 2004.
Any large orders would see a significant hike in price, although withour follow up orders it would more than likely fall back afterwards.
Not one for the feint hearted, IMHO!.
