Chip Production Equipment Maker BEDE looks GOOD at this Price (BED)

apple - 15 Dec 2003 15:26

PCs Mobiles & other electronic products in demand again so more chip companies building capacity.

At this price, BEDE looks good.

Any comments?

apple - 19 Dec 2003 08:04 - 2 of 80

Bede opened up on Third Quarter Results

apple - 16 Jan 2004 15:47 - 4 of 80

Up again!

nathan - 18 Jan 2004 17:50 - 5 of 80

I think they have received buy ratings from the house broker and they appointed a new Sales Director in December. If the semi-conductor market revives in 2004,then Bede will be a winner. If the price can break the 31p resistance line in the next few weeks then it should be worth backing.

apple - 03 Feb 2004 16:06 - 6 of 80

nathan

The semi-conductor market has ALREADY revived!

Production facilities already at full capacity & companies urgently building more.

See todays FT.

I suggest that Bede will be announcing new orders soon.

Today is a buying opportunity.

apple - 10 Feb 2004 18:55 - 9 of 80

Bede keeps moving up on very light trading

nathan - 10 Feb 2004 20:04 - 10 of 80

For the moment all the excitement is underground with the miners and gold and diamonds and stuff so very few investors are interested in X-ray equipment to test chip manufacturers output.I suspect some shrewd folk are picking up BEDE while this sector is quiet and it will nudge up until the focus turns again towards technology diamonds and BEDE should then do well.

apple - 10 Feb 2004 20:24 - 11 of 80

BEDE should announce 4th quarter update soon & with the chip companies struggling to keep up with demand there will be a nice surprise methinks.

BEDE is also the only supplier of equipment that Intel needs for it's new chips.

I'll try & find the link to that info & post it here.

apple - 24 Feb 2004 10:52 - 12 of 80

1.7 Million Crossing trade.

I think that BED is going to take off soon.

The results may be about to greatly exceeed expectations due to big increase in demand.

Preliminary Results - Monday 26 April 2004

This is one share worth a closer look. I agree with apple, its dirt cheap.

cpeck12 - 01 Mar 2004 08:31 - 14 of 80

I think movement in share price will come pretty soon.

Just a short technical intro that you might be interested:

This examines and projects the technologies involved, their likely developments, what problems and choices are facing users, and where the opportunities and pitfalls are. The worldwide markets are analyzed and projected.

Each new generation of IC devices brings about a corresponding decrease in linewidths and minimum feature sizes. The technological trends and innovations in IC fabrication processes directly influences the market for microlithography equipment. This market is the most competitive of all front-end semiconductor equipment markets, due to the high price of the equipment and the potential for high profit.

Optical methods of wafer imaging have remained the dominant force in the IC industry, despite claims made by E-beam, X-ray, and focused ion beam equipment manufacturers that even higher resolution is needed for VLSI devices. Two of the main reasons for the continual acceptance of this technology have been system maturity and the development of more effective exposure ultraviolet radiation. The current advances in optical system will eventually reach their limits, resulting in competitive marketing and technology strategies by X-ray vendors for a share of the microlithography market.

Current advances in optical systems could reach their limitation for 4 Gbit devices, but will continue to be a driving force. X-ray technology is being positioned to step in.

Check out Reuters.co.uk This share got a buy rating with more brokers support it this week!

apple - 09 Mar 2004 15:11 - 25 of 80

Thanks Pumacat, I'll go look.

ehall - 12 Mar 2004 13:48 - 26 of 80

Online spread much tighter than the quote, chart suggests that any movement upwards will take it straight back to 25p. could be a nice little earner given what is happening at IMG. Results out soon should also spur interest.

ehall - 17 Mar 2004 09:46 - 27 of 80

Results out on the 26th of April, could be a very good price to get in as buyers will speculateon good results given growth in the semi conductor industry and as a similar company to immagination, risky but potentially very rewarding at this price.

ehall - 17 Mar 2004 13:40 - 28 of 80

One large buy and several smaller buys, this should move promptly back up to the 25p area before results come out, very oversold at the moment given the bouyancy of its markets.

Grandma - 18 Mar 2004 10:28 - 29 of 80

Bede- Iam puzzled by trades this morning. Can anyone explain why a (single protected transaction) of 150k at 18p hasn't so far dropped the bid- which was up from 18p to 19p this morning? Last trade yesterday was another SPT 200k at 18p.

apple - 05 Apr 2004 08:26 - 30 of 80

At last they are finally reporting the good news!

Get ready for the ride.

05/04/04 07:30 Bede order backlog 3.2 mln stg on April 2 after winning new contracts AFX

UP 14.8% so far today

ehall - 05 Apr 2004 13:49 - 32 of 80

Stonking news, should be above 25p very soon, delayed protected trades definitely buys, should be a good one for the short term as results are out on the 26th I think.

apple - 05 Apr 2004 21:06 - 33 of 80

Yep that's what the RNS says.

ehall - 06 Apr 2004 22:44 - 34 of 80

Order backlog is 3.2m against 2004 expected turnover of 8m, looks as though they should be beating their turnover for 2004 quite comfortably. Interesting to see if they have reduced costs, this will bring profitability through faster. Bede should benefit dramatically through contract wins as this should add directly to profits, expect increasing interest as we move towards the results, another contract win will probably secure their future profitability.

apple - 07 Apr 2004 08:32 - 35 of 80

ehall

They are in a very good position.

What they need to do is get the good news out.

They are not very good communicators, the only reason we were told about this good news is because they were announcing the results date.

ehall - 08 Apr 2004 13:49 - 36 of 80

Chart still looks good for a 26P mid price, gains being registered every day!

apple - 08 Apr 2004 14:29 - 37 of 80

Should be much better than that judging by the large increase in investment by their customers.

BEDE is the only supplier of some of the equipment that Intel needs.

apple - 08 Apr 2004 20:59 - 38 of 80

Up 4 days in a row.

Biggest trading Volume on Bede for 6 months!

It may be about to accelerate upwards!

ehall - 19 Apr 2004 13:44 - 41 of 80

Interesting, two huge buys, one over 1 million shares and the MM's reduce the sell price to 22p. Not sure what this will achieve other than prevent trading as the spread is now ridiculous. Another example of the MM's operating a market for the benefit of themselves! This really gets me, about time the FSA published some regulations as it is always the small shareholders that loose out.

ehall - 19 Apr 2004 21:26 - 42 of 80

Anyway from citywire if you care!

Speculative Citywire tip and shrewd favourite Bede has seen a good start to the year and there are signs customers are finally starting to spend, but investors must wait at least a year for profits.

Shares (BED) are up 3p at 21.5p. This is above the 18.5p at which we highlighted them last June, but well down from their bounce to 32.5p in August.

Bede provides X-ray technology that measures materials. To date the company has focused on a niche part of the semiconductor industry called compound semiconductors. However the company reckons its technology is ideally suited to the next generation of materials being developed for the mainstream semiconductor business.

As Citywire reported, several shrewd investors dipped in at the time of a placing by the company last July and one, Mark Horrocks, has come in since then.

Horrocks bought 500,00 shares or 0.89% in November for the Intrinsic Value (IV.) fund.

AAA-rated Mark Slater was one of three shrewd investors who bought in at the July placing. Slater holds 0.29% in the MFM Slater Recovery Acc fund and a further 0.25% in the MFM Bowland fund.

AAA-rated Patrick Evershed has hung on to the 770,000 shares or 1.37% he holds in the New Star Select Opportunities fund. AAA-rated Giles Hargreaves has been trimming his stake but still holds 0.54% for the Marlborough Special Situations fund and AA-rated John Dodd holds 4.73% in the Artemis UK Smaller Companies Fund.

The reason Bede thinks its technology will be in demand is this. To get more speed and power from ever-smaller chips, semiconductor makers will use a host of new technologies that include strained silicon, copper and others. Existing measurement techniques will not cope with the far thinner materials being used, and according to finance director David Hall, potentially competitive technologies to X-ray are more 'destructive'.

The company has announced it has received an order for its BedeMetrix L tool, aimed at development centres working on new materials. This machine sells for between $800,000 (440,000) and $900,000. The company has also signed multiple orders for its BedeMetrix F tools, which sell for about $1.5 million and tend to be used in full scale production environments.

As a result of the latest orders, the company's order backlog at 2 April was 3.2 million.

Hall said this went a good way to underpinning analysts' expectations for the full year, which are for sales of 8 million, albeit still with losses of 2.4 million. However Hall said business should be loaded toward the second half of the year, which should show a positive move toward profitability, with 2005 being 'on the right side of profitability.'

He said the company sees a great difference from nine to 12 months ago, since companies now seem to have the budget to spend. The company's prospect list looks very strong and all signs are encouraging.

During the very tough past couple of years, Bede has cut nearly 1 million off its costs and has beefed up its sales team, re-focusing on the broader opportunities offered in the mainstream semiconductor market.

The biggest hurdle it faces is education, Hall reckons, since big semiconductor makers need to be convinced that X-ray is the answer to their needs going forward.

Citywire Verdict:

As we have been at pains to point out, this was never going to be an overnight recovery story.

Signs so far however are that things are moving in the right direction. It still remains to be seen whether a 12 million company can convince the world's large semiconductor manufacturers to buy its tools.

There is a supply agreement with an unnamed major US semiconductor company bubbling away in the background, but Bede could really do with being able to announce a big name customer some time soon.

The shrewd names in this company are among the higher risk fund managers, and this stock still suits the speculator rather than the risk-averse investor.

apple - 20 Apr 2004 09:59 - 43 of 80

Thanks ehall

BTW
I think we are going to get a nice surprise next week.

apple - 20 Apr 2004 15:51 - 44 of 80

Up again!

It looks like the word is getting around.

It doesn't take much to move this share with the comparatively low number of shares in issue.

Also the value of just a handful of sales is more than their market cap.

Gartmore Investment Management may be joined by other big boys soon.

ehall - 20 Apr 2004 19:09 - 45 of 80

Really like it apple, this is very risky but offers the best rewards in the sector and it doesn't take a whiz to work out that orders are improving as the news is out, a few more institutional investors would help but I agree about the price movement, nothing was traded today and they marked up although I am still suspect about the MM's! Expect more positive movement for the rest of this week to next Monday, I think by Friday afternoon we will be in the late 20's/30 as the t10ers and speculators push in!

apple - 20 Apr 2004 22:10 - 46 of 80

ehall

You could be right about the late 20's/30

Anything could happen with this share, I expect large volatility.

ehall - 22 Apr 2004 13:50 - 47 of 80

Surprised really that this hasn't attracted attention, there has only been good news recently and it ooperates in an industry at the beginning of a cyclical upturn so the logic is that it's a good investment case, we will fijnd out soon though!

justmoney - 23 Apr 2004 14:13 - 48 of 80

Buy B4 Monday great result are due on monday - Great Company

apple - 23 Apr 2004 15:57 - 49 of 80

I hear that some very big orders are being placed for Bede's Equipment & some of them are from Intel.

These orders may well exceed the market cap of Bede.

This makes the results up to 31 Dec 2003 (To be announced on Monday) largely irrelevant.

One of the buyers may be Intel

They need Bede's X-ray equipment for their next generation of chips which use High-K Dielectric materials.

http://www.intel.com/pressroom/archive/releases/20031105tech.htm

These orders are in additon to those announced on 5th April

Bede order backlog 3.2 mln stg on April 2 after winning new contracts AFX

RNS

The question is have these orders actually been clinched & will they be announced on Monday.

If not then we may have to wait a few weeks until they are announced.

IF TRUE then this share will get a major boost or more....

Apart from that, the results for last year will be as expected.

I don't know if this info is reliable! DYOR

Watch this share on Monday & get ready to BUY!

Or get in now if you like a bit of a risk but I don't expect any bad news on Monday.

I've already been enjoying the rise from 18.5p & there may be a lot more to come.

sinutab - 24 Apr 2004 12:42 - 50 of 80

i buy these after i see trade doing very well in the usa.

they come good later in the year.

make much profit.

apple - 25 Apr 2004 22:35 - 51 of 80

Only hours to go before results & maybe important announcements.

Hopefully, the announcements will be made on the same day.

apple - 26 Apr 2004 12:38 - 52 of 80

No big announcements today.

Perhaps they haven't clinched the deals yet.

Results almost as expected, just a tiny bit bigger loss than expected.

.................................

The best hint we got on upcoming big orders was:

'We believe that the group has a significant lead in technology, product readiness and production experience for these markets,' chief executive Neil Loxley said.

'As a result, the group is seeing strong forward visibility for orders for the rest of 2004 and beyond.

.................................

So I'm out for the time being but these are well worth keeping an eye on for announcements over the next few weeks.

apple - 10 Jun 2004 10:29 - 53 of 80

Nice rise today, wish I'd made a larger investment when it dipped.

garth - 10 Jun 2004 19:20 - 54 of 80

Apple,

I think at that stage apple, the cash/burn looked a real concern for anyone with eyes. The real good news was the raising of cash by a placing at a decent price, IMO.

Have you looked at IGE? They are using stereoscopic 3dx-ray for NDT and security and have on-going R&D in scanning occluded electrical components....

Significant tie-up with Rapiscan. Partnership extension and growing numbers of bids announced this week.

G.

apple - 11 Jun 2004 10:31 - 55 of 80

At last, Bede is nudging 30p.

50% UP in a few weeks.

The next question is will it go above 30 & when to sell?

Thanks garth, I'll take a look at IGE.

apple - 25 Aug 2004 14:13 - 56 of 80

30p again.

apple - 26 Aug 2004 14:15 - 57 of 80

Gone through 30p at last!

30.5p

I wonder if it will close above 30p.

Nearly doubled since March :-)

apple - 27 Aug 2004 16:37 - 58 of 80

Still 30.5p

Held on to the gains, I wonder if there is more to come!

apple - 04 Nov 2004 11:44 - 59 of 80

AT LAST 42p!!!!!!!!!!!!

Patience is rewarded.

All the way from 18p in March.

Beasties - 04 Nov 2004 12:02 - 60 of 80

Been watchin this one for a while with my finger hovering over the buy button several times. Why the surge today?
I looked at it earlier and it was up a bit, but buys and sells looked balanced.

apple - 04 Nov 2004 13:13 - 61 of 80

Don't know but I've sold half.

Beasties - 05 Nov 2004 09:09 - 62 of 80

Does that mean it's not one you'd be buying into now then apple?

apple - 05 Nov 2004 09:33 - 63 of 80

Beasties

I took some of my profits for use elsewhere.

Looks like I sold at the peak of the day :-)

You should have bought in March. 18p to 42p was what you missed.

Perhaps look at it again after it has retraced.

If it keeps going up then I'm happy with that too.
