MoneyAM Stock-Picker of the Year 2004 Competition (COMP)

Bullshare - 18 Dec 2003 20:17

Choicelong.gif

MoneyAM Stock-Picker of the Year 2004 Competition.

So who really is the best stock picker amongst the MoneyAM users!

Our users simply had to choose any 2 London Stock Exchange (LSE & AIM) stocks which they thought would be the best performer in 2004. The MoneyAM user who picked the stock which increased the most (%) from all the MoneyAM user submissions would become the winner. If there was a tie for first place (two or more users choose the same stock) then the winner would be the one whose second stock performs the best, the second prize would go to the next person who chose the same winning stock but whose second stock was the second best performing etc.

Entries closed at midnight on 31st December 2003. Only one entry per user was allowed.1st Prize: Coveted MoneyAM Yellow Jersey to wear plus 500 prize money
(kindly sponsored by Hargreaves Lansdown Stockbrokers)2nd Prize: A full day training course - value up to 375
(kindly sponsored by Global Markets Training)3rd Prize: A years subscription to Shares Magazine (cover value 150.45)
(kindly sponsored by Shares Magazine)Here is a full list of all stocks /entrants which will automatically update every night. Use the scroll down on the side of the league table to see all entries. Please upgrade your browser

Interesting... I xpect the winner will be a 10 bagger at least, probably one most of us would have turned our noses up at, something like YOO.

Of course I have got various shares I confidently expect to multibag, but I am not sure about most of them doing it in a year. Went for HPD and NOP anyway.

PS, how can I put this delicately, the prizes... can I just have the money?

Typical - watching bke is for days like waiting for the kettle
to boil, then the moment it is entered for the stockpicker comp
bke rises 20%, then today another 16% but still two days to go before
the start. No doubt there will be a 30% drop immediately after the start date.

may - 30 Dec 2003 08:34 - 47 of 206

Half an hour into trading today and another 42%+ hike
for bke - new year's resolution for 2004 will be not
to enter any stockpicker competitions for 2005 until 31/12/2004!

FFA - Ffastfill. Absolutely no idea what this company does, rumour has it that during 2004 it will be renamed "Ffastfill your bboots" so that's a good a reason as any to pick it :-)

CWV - CMS Webview. Tipped to be become the next Reuters by the summer of 2004, with a takeover attempt of Bloomberg by year end. Mega riches to all the investors.

Bullshare, Can we not have an actual leaderboard of players postion in the overall game since we all have two stocks each? or is it based on just the best performing pick of one stock? If so sorry for being stupid!
:-)

Zebraman - 03 Feb 2004 22:51 - 83 of 206

Golddog - If I remember correctly, the best performing pick is the one that counts. The second pick is only relevant if there is a tie.

great comp, but remember the tortoise and the hare.

tad 200p, ptl 300p

i think 2 stocks is not enough for a comp like this because anyone can get lucky and hit a knutsford. i appreciate the work involved here in updating but a future comp should have a min of 5 stocks.

WOODIE - 16 Feb 2004 17:45 - 91 of 206

bullshare i agree with above, any chance of another comp for the last 6 months of the year with a 5 entry fee for a portfolio of 5 or 10 shares that way the longer term investor comes into play?

Bullshare - 19 Feb 2004 16:58 - 94 of 206

woodie : we plan to release a big comp. in June with big prizes. More details in a month or so . Idea would be to let you buy one stock a day but always have a minimum of 5 stocks invested.

WOODIE - 20 Feb 2004 06:57 - 95 of 206

HPD has changed epic to PGD ... still down but not by 100% !

Pat

Red Underwing - 26 Feb 2004 11:05 - 103 of 206

I see that IAP is shown as down 79.68%

MoneyAM seems to take ages to cope with share consoldition, split & epic changes!

Accounting for the IAP split IAP finsished 2003 at 311 & is currently 316. So a small rise is the true position.

I don't know if NTY is in the competition but it's another one that MoneyAM has not caught up with!
Look at a five day chart & you see a huge rise! If you allow for the 20:1 consolidation you will see a sizeable fall!

Are there really so many of these changes that MoneyAM can't keep up with them?

Incorrect data is worse than no data!

pwmiles and Red Underwing,
I've just refreshed the historical data for PGD and IAP.
NTY is on the list but I don't have a full set of data for it yet.
We don't yet have a completely foolproof way of automating the tracking of
corporate actions, so if you spot any others that have been affected by these,
please let me know.

And still this table is distorted by Matrix being listed as OST at 100% loss. This should currently be showing I believein first place (cant remember the exact start of yr price)

Congratulations. I looked at them today (due to your posting) and they are about 4 fold, ie about 300% up, maybe more, but its hard from a graph to judge the precise price at the start of the year. I assume MXC was your choice.

Do you know what the start of year price was?

It's a bit of fun for me following this. I am not even in the competition as I wasn't using MoneyAm too much at the start of the year.

Good luck.

Fundamentalist - 20 Jun 2004 16:44 - 129 of 206

Crystal,

I think they were around 0.9p but not too sure. (I bought a small trading batch at 0.8p and sold at 4.4p so happy enough - most of my investment is LTBH). Good long term prospects though been heavily ramped recently. Will look at them again in the future no doubt, still on the watchlist. Anyhow, about 6 of us have them in the comp and my other share is taking a bath (Medisys)!

may - 20 Jun 2004 16:53 - 130 of 206

Bullshare

OST which you list as 100% down in fact changed its name to
MXC and is over 300% up so IMHO should be top of the list not bottom!!

EDIT: since posting the above, seen fundamentalist made the same point earlier.
My SIPP holds a good few of these and his post is correct as is mine - still well over 300% up since retracing from 400%+

Share dealing is a strange business. Mine (Antonov) are tipped on the Evelyn's Hair and Investment site!

From a chart, your's seemed to be more like 0.8, maybe even 0.75 at the start of the year.

Well, as we approach the end of the year it is clear BISI has no chance of making the top three (unless they hit gold in one of their coal seams), although considering it is a growth share it has done well to make the top ten over a relatively short period.

The top ten always seems to contain rogue shares. Today; BLR, CPL and EEN.

20.jpg19.jpgI was too late to get my name on the list, so I won't win anything, but my choice was Antonov. I believed in them enough to follow it on a regular basis, but its way off at the moment. If they announce production has started by Honda or something like that, then I could still be in with a chance, but its looking unlikely.

The Rotax collaberation should come to something, but this year is to soon. The OEMs will want to keep their plans quiet once they know what they want, and they probably haven't even evaluated the compressors properly yet.

Bullshare/Ian

Any chance of actually making the list correct. There are several shares that are showing as 0% due to name changes, consolidations etc - Matrix comms (MXC) formerly OST (Offshore Telecom) is a good example - should be showing approx 300% gain i think.

Some of us have been asking for this for approx 9 mths yet it is still to happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kaytom - do you hold RTD - if so - post on the RTD thread and share your wisdom with the rest of us holders

I will get the tech boys to rectify this and I will go through the list to find any other anomalies and get them resolved.

Ian

IanT(MoneyAM) - 21 Dec 2004 08:52 - 174 of 206

Fundamentalist,

The table above should now show correct figures after the glitch from last night - I will do some checks to make sure all is now fine.

Regards

Ian

markymar - 21 Dec 2004 10:28 - 175 of 206

Ian what is the finishing date?

Andy - 21 Dec 2004 10:32 - 176 of 206

Fundementalist,

Ah so you had a vested interest in adjusting those figures! LOL!

Any truth in the rumour you have large orders placed in the market in a last desperate attempt to get your mits on that coveted yellow jersey?

Cheers Ian news should come before then.Any chance of a bottle of champers chucked in? Or should i be buying that as bought as low as 8p.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 21 Dec 2004 14:03 - 180 of 206

markymar - if you bought as low as 8p go out and treat yourself - you can afford it :)

Ian

Fundamentalist - 21 Dec 2004 14:44 - 181 of 206

Andy

Yes a small vested interested though only small as there are others who have MXC but a better second stock - it doesnt get much worse than MDY lol!!!

Personally would be happy to be the highest finisher from the tea rooms which means finishing above AHT

markymar - 21 Dec 2004 14:56 - 182 of 206

Ian the upside of a farm-out and news is on way the shares will hit 1 to 1.50p

When they go out there to drill i expect the share price to be between 4 to 6 depending on how many holes they drill and how many partners they have .

Watch this space and put me down for next year and last Friday topped up again with 20,001 shares am that sure this is going to happen.

Regards Markymar

AHT on the bounce after retracement! Its not over yet!

crystalclear - 22 Dec 2004 16:31 - 186 of 206

According to The Independent
http://news.independent.co.uk/low_res/story.jsp?story=593671&host=3&dir=94
The SAIC deal is due to be consummated at a formal signing ceremony at Longbridge in January.
so that's me out - although I was never formally a participant, I was enthusiastic throughout the year - January is too late - and Antonov's other partner put on their website today that they are moving to larger premises with space for production expansion, but that is double Dutch to anybody without the rose tinted specticles!

mitzy - 05 Jan 2005 12:38 - 203 of 206

I was going to ask you Mick what you thing of MMG's chances this year...tia.

banjomick - 10 Jan 2009 21:37 - 204 of 206

Apologies mitzy, only just seen your post. Not a lot more to be said on that subject!

Anyway, was just thinking what happened to the competition, used to be very popular,if I remember right.

Edit-After all that, not that comp. the other one where you could buy and sell as you went along.

mitzy - 11 Jan 2009 09:58 - 205 of 206

lol banjo MMG was a great share from 3p to 300p and down again mind you my choice TEO went bust last year.!

banjomick - 11 Jan 2009 11:09 - 206 of 206

I first bought MMG in 2003 and yes was a splendiferous ride but I kept taking profits too early on the way up to 300p which I missed by miles,we live and learn!
