WIshing everyone a Happy Xmas and successful New Year!
Updated 12/22 for Tuesday's market.
Key DOW Levels for 12/23
UP Above 10,350
DN Below 10,250
Sloping Consolidation
Dow trades within channel at highs.
From prior commentary, "...look for the Dow to continue sideways within the range boundaries before any such break is seen, as further development of the consolidation will likely occur..."
The Dow traded sideways to up today, forming a sloping consolidation at the highs seen in the 15 Minute Charts. The tight upward sloping consolidation formed within the channel seen in the 60 minute chart, ended with a little over a 59 point gain for the index.
The fact that the Dow is continuing to hold onto the highs within the channel hints at further upside movement in the medium term. An upside break through the upper consolidation boundary at 10,350 will lead to a further move higher in the medium term.
A downside break at the lower boundary at 10,250 will indicate weakness and a likely retracement for Tuesday's market. The Dow is likely to continue sideways within the sloping range before any such break is seen, as this is a holiday week with shortened trading days on 12/24 and 12/26.
Short Term Dow
Short term, the Dow has formed a clear trend line across the lows at 10,315, seen in the 5 Minute Chart. Look for the index to hold above this level for Tuesday.
Medium Term Dow
In the medium term, we are still Long the Dow from 10,190 and will move stops up to 10,250 for Monday's market. We will want to stay Long above 10,350, and will look to enter Shorts below 10,250, with 20 point stops. If the market violates our lower fulcrum line at 10,250 we expect the market to give back a fair portion of its gains, and we will want to be Short as a result.
NASDAQ & S&P
The NASDAQ and S&P each traded sideways today, gaining slightly for the session. We will watch the tight range boundaries that have formed at the highs for Tuesday's market. A break from the ranges will indicate direction Tuesday. *
Summary
The Dow slowly traded higher for the session today, forming an upward sloping consolidation at the highs within its wider channel. Look for a slow move higher tomorrow, but pay close attention to the lower boundary at 10,250 for a break to indicate a move lower.

Morning all,
Just a flying visit today.
Mrs @ Miss Melnibone both down with 'coughy, fluey, buggy 'things
and I'm running around playing at Florence Nightingale.
Looks like I'll be cooking Christmas dinner this week.
Nows there's a delight that they can look forward to.;-)
Suppose I better go and watch one of those Delia cooking
programs on UK-TV.
I prefer watching Nigella myself, but the figure conscious
female Melnibones reckon she uses too many creamy things.
(Why do they think I watch it for the cooking tips?) :-))
A good day for taking TP's advice and standing aside, I think.
Melnibone.

Little Woman. Saw your post in Traders' Room. Wasn't quite quick enough on IOT - trying at 371 but doesn't look as if I will get any. But got a feeling it will go up after Xmas when people read the newspapers. Another one missed.

Yes, but at 378? I think I'll wait to see if it drops on profit-taking later today. You did well to pick up on the trades before the price shot up. It's not one I watch.

little woman - You did well to sell your ETL's some weeks ago at around 70p. Today price is 40p and I have been adding to my longs. Keeping my fingers crossed that they will recover.

The U.S. government has received intelligence reports that al-Qaida is planning attacks against U.S. interests in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Yemen and Kenya, Cable News Network reported Tuesday, citing a senior State Department official. The official said the intelligence spells out a general threat of attack against U.S. interests in those countries, but doesn't mention a specific target, CNN reported.
