LONDON (AFX) - Shares in Mediwatch continued to respond to recent news that
the company has gleaned marketing approval from the US Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) for the Portascan portable bladder scanner in the US.
The state-of-the-art portable diagnostic will be used to screen patients
suffering from prostate and bladder disorders, incontinence and those requiring
catheterization.
The group, whose shares were 3.00 pence higher at 10.87 by 8.30 am, is in
advanced stages to conclude a distribution agreement with a large,
well-established international company that is already selling into closely
related markets.

Any ideas on how much higher price might go - should I take profits or enjoy the ride for a bit longer?

SueHelen - 22 Jan 2004 12:26 - 5 of 145

Hi Ellie,

I have myself bought some of these this morning at 10.15 pence.

Current Price 10.5 - 11.25 pence.

Feel these could follow the same pattern as ZIM and get past 20 pence + in the short term.

SueHelen - 22 Jan 2004 12:27 - 6 of 145

Record volume today for this stock with some very heavy buying reported.

I am holding now for an early target of 20-25p which WILL happen on the announcement for the distribution agreement, tomorrow or early next week is my guess.

The FDA approval will be the catalyst for major announcement re US distribution deal: it is overdue. How high it goes thereafter is intriguing - I will suggest that we will see MDW over 25p short term and much higher long term.

ELLIE - 22 Jan 2004 12:40 - 11 of 145

Having originally bought in at 24p I've had a long wait, however also bought in at 3p so may break even/make profit soon. Fingers crossed!

Delayed BUYS at 10.75 pence are coming through at the moment from an hour ago. Normal Market Size is only 3,000 so trades roughly over 18,000 shares are delayed in reporting by an hour.

SueHelen - 22 Jan 2004 13:04 - 13 of 145

Delayed buys at 11 pence starting to come through.

100,000 BUY just been reported at 11 pence.

A superb, ground breaking medical product, has gained FDA approval for the huge USA market and the market capitalisation of this share is still only 6m at the start of play today !

Baring in mind the size of the market that Mediwatch is now about to dominate, it puts the shares on a very, very cheap valuation as they stand today.

They look very good for significant price MULIPLICATION for some time yet :

As a comparison, ZI Medical had a mediocre product released to the small UK market which it admitted it was "unsure of how much it would conribute to revenues". Yet the price has gone from 4p to in excess of 30p in about two weeks. Mediwatch stated expected revenue PER YEAR of $20m from the US alone.

It values ZI Medical at a mkt cap of 28m yet we are at a tiddly 6m mkt cap with a far greater product and far greater earnings visbility, and a far greater expected earnings amount. Therefore, Mediwatch shares are still undervalued by at least a MULIPLE of 3. A market cap of 30m would be a very conservative estimate of what Mediwatch should be on, and probably 50m is what Mediwatch deserves at this stage. Yet its valued at 6m !

That gives us a realistic price muliplication of 8 x 6m = 48m mkt cap. So 8 x 11p (share price) = 88p before it looks fully valued.

A MULIPLE OF 8 TIMES THE EXISTING SARE PRICE IS REALISTIC when compared to other firms who trade on 4/5 times next years full year revenues (if its a growth company and Mediwatch certainly is).

PLUS TWO FACTORS TO LOOK FORWARD TO :

- Mediwatch in advanced talks with a major and significant US distributor company for its product. As confirmed on the AFX statement out today. So a nice big RNS announcement is due within weeks.

- Press coverage. As yet it hasn't had much - but Investors Chronicle is out tommorrow and may cover the FDA announcement that came out from Mediwatch on Tuesday. If its not in this weeks Investors Chron (as too late to appear in thsi weeks edition) its sure to make next weeks.
Good pubilicity.

Plenty to look forward to - not least a more realistic mkt cap valuation. 6m is just way, way undervalued, and simultaneously, so is the share price.

Review of the six months ended 31st October 2003

Outlook

Much has been achieved in the recent past leading to a positive perspective of
the future. FDA approval of the portable scanner and the possibility of entering
the US market, the setting up of an international distribution network and
improvements to the UK selling organisation, together with the enhancements to
the existing product range, are all significant and reassuring achievements
pointing to higher sales levels in the future. In addition, the progress made in
Mediwatch Biomedical Limited provides confidence in the long term prospects for
the Group.

Janus - 07 Feb 2004 17:29 - 23 of 145

Mediwatch mentioned in Shares Magazine this week.

Mediwatch chiefs scan for US profits
The likely prospect of a lucrative US distribution deal is good news for investors in AIM-listed Mediwatch (MDW).

Following publication of the interims, chief executive Philip Stimpson bought 125,000 shares and finance director Kevin Middis acquired 60,000 shares at 8.03p.

The company produces a bladder scanner which has recently received marketing approval from the FDA. This diagnostic kit can be used by a trained person, who need not be a doctor, to discover whether a patient needs specialist secondary care. It will be used in primary healthcare to screen for prostate illnesses.

Currently, the group has distribution agreements with CR Bard, one of the worlds largest suppliers of urological equipment, for distribution in parts of Europe. It is hoping to extend these arrangements to include Canada, Germany, Italy and Spain. It has signed similar distribution arrangements with a GE subsidiary to cover Japan and South-East Asia and is in the final stages of discussions about a distribution arrangement in the US an announcement is, we believe, imminent. Although currently most of the groups sales are in the UK, the company believes that in 2004/05, most will be generated overseas.

Last year, the company had to place 10 million shares at 2.5p and then seven million at 3.4p. Now that it has received FDA approval, the markets enthusiasm should continue to grow, especially when it is able to name its US partner. In the medium term, it is possible that its technology will attract a predator.

This was taken from another board, if true then very interesting.

Institute report - This company (MDW) is involved with a study that will inform future policy on screening for prostate cancer into a national programme. The study will take many years BUT results as they appear will be acted on earlier than the completed study. The bladder is the most likely area to develop cancer caused by radiation from X-rays ( The Lancet 2004) and ways to aviod this by new types of machinary is crucial. Any new ways to manage men with screen - detection of this disease will be supported by large sums of money.

overgrowth - 11 Feb 2004 23:54 - 30 of 145

OK - I'm in as of tomorrow for a few.

An interesting post from elsewhere a couple of days ago helps to put the fundamentals into perspective, during this frantic climb:

"Estimated annual turnover in US alone of $20m. Plus signing new distrubution deals for new products to other countries - news that will be coming in the same RNS. So add 50% for other turnover worldwide and thats $30m turnover. Say thats approx 17m (sterling) turnover potential for 04/05. Mkt cap of growth companies typically three times sales (its a far better guide than PE ratios for this sort of high growth stock). So that three times sales = fair value mkt cap of 3 x 17m = 51m mkt cap is fair value. Its now at a tiddly mkt cap of 10m ish !!! Multiple from here of 5 times the share price = genuine fair value mkt cap.

Plus : The bladder scanner is getting distrubuted worldwide in the same RNS so my annual turnover estimate of $30m only adds in $10m from outside the US, which is very conservative."

jfletendre - 12 Feb 2004 00:59 - 31 of 145

Overgrowth - I read that post too and posted it on GF's thread - do you know enough about MDW and enough about calculating the sums in this to know if the above is accurate or just one person's very optimistic view?

goldfinger - 12 Feb 2004 10:18 - 32 of 145

Very strong looking TA.

Positive Candidate (Medium term) - Feb 11, 2004
Has risen 555% since the bottom on 5 Jan 2004 at 2.25. An approximate horizontal trend is broken up. A continued strong development is indicated, and the stock now meets support on possible reactions down towards the trend lines. RSI is overbought. The stock can still rise further, and we should see a decreasing RSI before this is used as a negative signal. Positive volume balance, i.e. high volume in days of rising prices and low volume in days of falling prices, strengthens the stock in the short term. The stock has support at p 3.50. High risk with an average difference between the lowest and the highest price of the month of 46%.

I agree with GF, I formerly had a stake in PRO, however they are still waiting for FDA approval with their product and there are mixed messages about distributor arrangements and competition and a host of other worries.

In contrast, MDW have the approval and distribution deals have been set up all over the globe - only the US to go and the news will be imminent.

I'm still mulling over the fundamentals in the view I posted earlier, though couldn't resist today's dip as the perfect opportunity to buy in at a decent price.

It's suspected that the MMs dropped the price a bit too low today and attracted more buyers than they expected in their tree shake - so a high mark up is predicted tomorrow. Not that I'm particularly fussed about the short term antics of this one - I've bought in for serious profits and am prepared to wait for them.

If an announcement doesn't come soon then I think the price will dip back to 10p, and I will top up. However it may announce very soon in which case 20p target I think is achievable this yr but short term it's probably been factored in, see trends before last yr as this is not a new scenario, it's just the strenghth of the sector that's changed and the US approval being added to the existing product.

goldfinger - 17 Feb 2004 23:53 - 49 of 145

Down a tad today. Im keeping faith with this one. Its usually the case that the big boys in the US mess the little ones around for a while before agreeing on a contract. May even add as this certainly is not a one trick pony. Just been looking again at the news to come and it appears newsflow will keep this one going all the year through.

overgrowth - 23 Feb 2004 21:05 - 59 of 145

GF - I agree, have just been reading "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" and that really rams home the point that the really big gains are made by spotting a big opportunity, trading at the point you think best and then waiting and waiting until it all comes together.

MDW is such a gem at these prices because we already know that there is a consistent stream of newsflow to come, the US distribution deal being just a start and for small companies good newsflow is crucial to keeping the press and punters interested.

All will be revealed in good time.

The one month candlestick chart shows the recent trend turning bullish again:

draw?startDate=25%2F01%2F04&period=1M&pl

The dragonfly doji (horizontal line with vertical underneath) is a respected bullish sign after a downtrend. This means that support brought the price back up to where it started from.

The hammer (rectangle with long vertical underneath) is also well-known as a bullish signal, heralding the "hammering up" of the price imminently - note that this powering up of bullishness does not always happen in the next session, but is sure to follow soon. This hammer also emphasises very strong support at 11.5p.

So, it looks like the chart is saying that the deal could be announced before the end of the week. If this is not the case, then it looks as though there will be renwed bullish interest in the prospects of the company in general (or in anticipation of the deal or a host of other reasons which TA's don't care about anyway when looking at the charts).

kantona - 25 Feb 2004 22:48 - 64 of 145

like i said before if this one goes down further take it as an opprtunity to top up ..least thats what i feel ..

just to refresh our memory here is the last RNS re the FDA approval ..the important info is in the last paragraph and i quote from there..

"We are in advanced stages to conclude a distribution agreement with a large, well-established international company that is already selling into closely related markets" ..so i for one not yet concerned about the currrent downward pressure on price ..just a matter of time b4 details r released .. i'm holding as long as it takes.

Mediwatch PLC
20 January 2004

Mediwatch Secures FDA Marketing Approval for Portascan(R)

Rugby, UK - 20 January, 2004 - Mediwatch, the innovative UK manufacturer of high
tech screening and diagnostic systems for urological disorders, announced today
that it has received marketing approval from the US Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) for the Portascan(R) portable bladder scanner in the USA.

The state-of-the-art portable diagnostic will be used to screen patients
suffering from prostate and bladder disorders, incontinence and those requiring
catheterization. Doctors' offices, outpatient clinics, hospital emergency
departments and nursing homes are all potential users of the Portascan, where
its level of accuracy gives it a major advantage over its competitors This
approval provides Mediwatch with access to the lucrative US bladder screening
market, currently valued at between $15 and $20 million per annum.

Commenting on this development, Philip Stimpson, CEO, said, 'Breaking into the
US market represents a significant milestone for Mediwatch. We are in advanced
stages to conclude a distribution agreement with a large, well-established
international company that is already selling into closely related markets.
Although this is our first venture into the US, we have already signed similar
agreements with multi-nationals to distribute our products across Europe.'

I agree folks,

The brokers say that the MM's are collecting as much stock as they can because they know that they're going to sell it by the bucketful when the distribution deal is announced. This is a golden opportunity to buy in before the next massive surge.

I hope it keeps at this level for the next couple of trading days so I have the cash to top-up, although judging by the current market trends, it wouldn't surprise me at all if an RNS pops up tomorrow or Monday and scuppers my plans.

Cardinal Health maybe ?

Cardinal Health Inc. has promoted George Fotiades to the newly created position of president and chief operating officer.

Fotiades was president and chief executive officer of Cardinal Health's Life Sciences business since 2000, and now all of the company's operations will report to him.

Company founder Robert Walter retains the titles of chairman and CEO.

"With George at the operational helm, my focus will be on corporate strategy, capital deployment and leadership development," Walter said in a press release.

Cardinal hasn't had a president since John Kane retired in 2000. The company eliminated the title following his retirement.

Dublin-based Cardinal is a global provider of goods and services to the health care industry.

James Millar, president and CEO of Cardinal's Healthcare Products and Services unit, has been transferred to the new position of executive director for strategic initiatives. He will advise Fotiades and report to Walter.

Also, Ronald Labrum was appointed president and CEO of the newly created Integrated Provider Solutions organization, which will hold Cardinal's medical products and services, clinical consulting and services and specialty distribution.

i dont think we will get news until end of March or thereabouts. However, i am happy to wait. Price will stay around current prices in last few weeks.

PS: In case no-one noticed my prev posts, i know of a very close source up here in Aberdeen and BG Group are in final throws of being taken over by Total. Both are big exploration companies worldwide offshore. Chairman of BG bought 28,000 shares at around 80000 recently and results were excellent. City dont know about this REAL bit of awesome news. A giveaway to me this one.

I doubt if the deal will be announced before the end of March, though sometime in April will have allowed plenty of time for the US distribution co. to get down to business after their board changes.

MDW is a snip at these prices and the price is starting to rise again. Don't hang about if any of you folks are thinking of snapping a few more up at the right price.

The company appears to be gradually getting more and more of a following amongst investors. A large rise when the deal is announced will help put them on a lot more radars so should bode well for the short term.

Long term - don't forget all that news we've still to look forward to :))

Typical - just as I was waiting patiently to up my stake to a substantial amount at the bargain price from yesterday, thwarted at the last minute without any news. Just imagine what is going to happen when the good news continues to be announced. Not many shares in circulation, so we are likely to see some phenomenal rises in price this year.

Still up 18% at the close and this is just the start.

These guys have been slogging away for the past 5 years and all the hard work is now coming to fruition and will continue.

Hard to predict where the price will be in a year, though it looks like a potential "5-bagger" to me.

Things have been quiet at Mediwatch recently, however there's an interesting post from Booza on iii:

"Ive just had a nice chat with Mr Alun Hicks (Non-Executive Director) at Mediwatch about one of my emails to Mr Philip Stimpson in which I questioned his sincerity about the imminence of the US distribution announcement. Mr Stimpson is currently in Egypt on business so Mr Hicks contacted me on his behalf.

Mr Hicks explained that at the time of the statement on the 20th Jan, everything Mr Stimpson said was true and in good faith. He also said that the delay is due to the size and complexity of deal which is still very dynamic. He assured me that they are working flat out to conclude the situation and will announce something as soon as possible.

One very interesting point came out when I accidentally described the deal as massive Mr Hicks hastily replied Well, Id hardly describe 15 to 20 million as massive but to a small AIM listed company it is certainly huge..
"

It certainly looks as though there are going to be exciting times ahead!

overgrowth - 20 Apr 2004 23:22 - 101 of 145

Some very interesting spread movements today. It looks as though news of some form is really "imminent" now. If we see another strong rise tomorrow with no news, then an RNS will be on its way before the week's out.

grajul - 30 Apr 2004 13:16 - 102 of 145

goldfinger - 15 May 2004 23:57 - 105 of 145

Hi Cath got your message, still holding but highly dissapointed with the share price ( mind in these markets cant ask for more).

Remember its not a one trick pony this one and being a highly patient type Im prepared to sit back and wait for news which will out it and move the price higher.

More or less same thing going on at BPRG but shorters seem to be having there day there, but for how much longer? and I for one hope they get caught in a bear trap, and if they do they will wish they never heard of the shorting practice, it could happen and they could get locked in.

Only about 10 stock now open, mt exposure to tech is now very limited mind I cant complain Ive had an excelent 12 months or so, now going back to cash and the odd defensive and value share.

Hope you are doing ok on the markets, its a pity but these geopolitical problems cant be forecast.

Good luck and regards goldfinger.

overgrowth - 16 May 2004 20:29 - 107 of 145

Well worth sticking with this co. There's still a stack of newsflow to come and each announcement will be nudging the price nicely upwards.

The drift is disappointing, though it has mainly been on relatively tiny volumes which means that the price can easily blast back up to 12-15p levels on positive news.

overgrowth - 27 May 2004 20:03 - 108 of 145

Great news in the trading update today - the RNS has emphatically quashed any bearish thoughts on MDW:

"Mediwatch (AIM:MDW), the innovative UK manufacturer of high tech screening and
diagnostic systems for urological disorders, today announces a business update.

The Company announces that Phase I clinical evaluation of the qualitative
point-of-care diagnostic system (PSA) has commenced. Mediwatch Biomedical
remains on course to apply for regulatory approvals for this point-of-care
system in Europe and the US next year.

Progress has been made in the UK where sales have increased significantly during
the second half of the year ending 30th April 2004. In addition, CMDCAS approval
for Canada has now been granted for a portable scanner.

Professor Peter Wells, a world leading expert in Ultrasound has agreed to join
the Company as a consultant and will provide further expertise in support of new
and exciting future products.

As announced in the interim results to 31st October 2003 released on 28th
January 2004, negotiations with a large US distributor for a range of Mediwatch
products are continuing, albeit somewhat delayed due to unforeseen legal issues.
Resolution of these issues is currently being addressed and we will provide an
update to shareholders in due course."

If UK sales alone "have increased significantly" what sort of volumes are going to be sold by this company globally when they really get going.

A good price to buy, now we have confirmation from the horse's mouth that MDW is more than on the right track.

As has been mentioned some time ago, plenty of newsflow regarding new distribution deals to come and lots of exciting products in the pipeline.

I reckon a lot of folks looked at the potential earlier in the year, bought in at a high (12-14p) and reluctantly sold at a loss after the widely reported "imminent" distribution deal took a few months longer than expected and the share price dwindled helped along by general market conditions.

This RNS is just the start - lots more news to come, we just need to be patient.

overgrowth - 09 Jun 2004 23:33 - 112 of 145

There appears to be renewed action in MDW (albeit slight) recently folks - keep an eye out for news as this is will soar when news confirming the US distribution deal comes out.

stocktock - 18 Jun 2004 08:54 - 114 of 145

I am holding for the long term. I managed to purchase 30,000 this am (further increasing my holding whilst this shares are in recline) - I believe these shares are extremely cheap bearing in mind the fundamentals and the extensive medical products they have. The potential is vast bearing in mind the amount of health service organisations and individuals who would use these equipment. For those who hold and have note checked out there web site - they should. The site is very enlightning. Do notworry about the recent downfall and fluctuation in prices - sentiment is also following the market and unfortunately Mediwatch has been included in this - unjustified!Do not expect to make a quick buck - but for those who hold patience will be rewarded. As usual do your own research and find the time to speak to the Director of Mediwatch - which I did. This discussion alone gave me further confidence in their products. Regards

overgrowth - 18 Jun 2004 18:41 - 115 of 145

stocktock - I'm in for the long term and totally agree with all points apart from "Do not expect to make a quick buck" - MDW is on a lot of watch lists waiting for the deal to be confirmed, as soon as that happens the price will be way above 10p in an instant.

Slightly longer term we could well be looking at a small company making it to the big time. 1-2 years with the right deals and products (all in the pipeline - not pie in the sky), we're likely to be looking at a price range of 50p-70p.

petralva - 20 Jun 2004 08:53 - 116 of 145

overgrowth - 30 Jun 2004 00:59 - 123 of 145

There are not many shares available in MDW to snap up, so large volume buying will shift the price up very quickly indeed.

As soon as the newsflow starts, this one will run and run.

With a massive health awareness drive in the US highlighting the problem of prostate cancer, the announcement of the large US distribution deal will cause MDW to fly.

http://www.mediwatch.co.uk/mediwatch/index.html

overgrowth - 01 Jul 2004 01:20 - 124 of 145

A day or two of consolidation like today is very healthy for the rises to come -annoying if you've just bought in, however temporary drops will be nothing when you consider the returns to be made in the second half of this year.

For anyone buying 8.8p looks like the next "bounce point" if there is further consolidation. If we go up tomorrow instead, then get in as soon as you can, because if news really is round the corner we can expect some large hikes in price.

Something must have triggered the rumour mongers to cause the increase in volume we've seen over the past few of days - let's see what happens on Friday.

overgrowth - 02 Jul 2004 01:18 - 125 of 145

Only me interested in MDW by the looks of it - ah well, you've only got yourselves to blame when you're tempted to buy in at much higher prices.

I have a feeling this BB will become a little bit more active if the much rumoured announcement is made today.

No news as yet suggests that if there is any news today it will be made around 1:30pm just before Wall Street opens, because it relates to the US deal and MDW wouldn't want their US investors to miss out on a chance to invest at a low price - we'll just have to wait and see...

grajul - 02 Jul 2004 12:01 - 126 of 145

I have been in on this for a while Overgrowth, on a loss just now, but I am resisting averaging down, I would be too exposed. I am happy to wait an dreap the rewards when (not if) mdw take soff. Good luck to all....

scotinvestor - 02 Jul 2004 14:49 - 127 of 145

wheres the so called news that was supposed to be appearing today

overgrowth - 02 Jul 2004 19:24 - 128 of 145

Ah well - rumours abound with Mediwatch concerning the much awaited "announcement", however this one sounded more promising than others, though could have been misconstrued as insider information - we could find that the date has been moved into next week because of this.

Whatever happens in the next few days, I can really sense this company being a goldmine in the short, medium and long term.

grajul - I'm still on a loss too, though decided to top up with another 50% worth at the recent low prices. As they're an AIM stock, it's worth hanging on for 2 years+ to get the full CGT allowance - by that time the price should be more around the 1 mark. There's not much free stock so the price will zoom with heavy buying volumes - after then we have interest from institutions to look forward to.

Oakapples142 - 05 Jul 2004 09:26 - 129 of 145

A little antipation going on again this morning. I must say that rumours make the game rather more interestng and give us the opportunity to buy and sell making modest profit practically weekly!!.

Oakapples142 - 06 Jul 2004 09:21 - 130 of 145

You have all gone a little quiet this morning. As I predicted great chance to buy for the brave this morning - I did at 7.05 - well just a little !!

overgrowth - 06 Jul 2004 19:54 - 131 of 145

Oakapples,

And a well timed move it was too.

1.2M loss vs 5.46M is the bottom line which is a substantial improvement on last year.

Far too many people were expecting sparkling results in addition to an annoucement over the US distribution deal and raced for the sell button (rather prematurely in my view).

The news which will really shift the price North with huge momentum is that on the distribution deal. I'm assuming that the modest placement will act as an insurance to cover cash flow during the period between shipping products and being paid by the distributor - because there could be one hell of a load of products needed in the US.

The placing will set a stable level for the price, which looks as though it will oscillate in the range 6-7p. As soon as there's any whiff of news on distribution deals, the buyers will be back in force, and the price could well be almost doubled in a single day's trading - so keep an eye on the news. The RNS said nothing really about deals, so we can expect news tomorrow just as much as in several months.

This is a high risk/high reward share. I believe that the brave will seriously prosper in the long run. At these levels MDW is still a tremendous bargain. 50p+ is still not unlikely by this time next year.

overgrowth - 08 Jul 2004 19:48 - 132 of 145
