Just wanted to start a thread on this company.
The MKD dividend should be about now I think or does anyone think any different?
(1 MKD share for every 10 OXS)

Anyone already holding by close of the market tonight will qualify tomorrow I believe, best to check first thing tomorrow morning if there's an RNS though to be sure.

bishop,
Yes you are correct, I may well have a few more tomorrow now, I thought it was today!
Although Oxus has fallen back somewhat recently, since the fiasco in early December over the IG Index Marakand placing shares two months ahead of approval and distribution actually.
Once this special divi is out of the way, i'm hoping the focus will return to the assetts and gold production Oxus actually have, rather than speculation to receive some "free" shares!

Dog is it? with management under Bill Trew? With 200K oz gold production due this year? come off it !
OXS is the senior and superior British Gold Miner. Its as simple as that.

Waz,
I expect Oxus to be heading northwards soon!
Your exit at 85p was indeed a good well timed move, but now MIGHT be a good re-entry point!

How can you cal Oxus a ramped dog, indeed! The truth is that the price has increased significantly from its low and the big rush is over in comparison with smaller explorers but Oxus is now producing and a lot, this is relatively cheap compared to most and it is pouring, more of a rampant dog if you ask me. When the hype is over, Oxus will be a winner that's for sure. As the buyers in search of the Markarand shares ahve probably now sold, expect a rerating next week as there is too much comparative value to be had here.

Good news about the Marakand shares - although price tipped above 45P we still are receiving 1 for each OXS share! thanks to the directors.

What is happening to Oxus? The Marakand deal done and price stabilized at about 50p,I was surprised not to see some profit taking here. Have not heard any bad news or even rumors,so Andy why are we heading southwards?

zeibcmva,
To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure, they may just be consolidating before the next move upwards, but for now I'm watching 60p to see if the price bounces, or drops through.
Oxus seems to have gone awry on December when IG Index and some investors got confused with the date of the special dividend, and it has become unsteady since that time.
another factor may be that other gold (and diamond) mining shares are being ramped on other BB's, and some may have sold to junp on those bandwagons whilst they are rising. When they stop, I for one expect some will switch back into Oxus.
I attended the recent EGM, and in the discussion with Bill Trew afterwards, he was VERY positive about the future of OXUS.
The reasons I invested in Oxus are still valid, and as Parkin correctly (IMHO)states above, shares don't move in a straight line, but up and down, so I for one am not concerned about the long term future of Oxus.
All objectives have so far been met on time, Oxus is a gold PRODUCER, and Bill trew said "5 mines".
So far he's called it spot on, so I see no reason to doubt him at the moment!

Andy,
Thanks for your review of Oxus, as you implied the money does move around according to the flavour of the month. You interview with Bill Trew is reassuring, and recently under his management they have not put a foot wrong.
I also look at Oxus as a PRODUCER and as you know an exceptionally LOW COST producer. As such it really does not matter if it produces gold or toothpicks as long as the profit is there and sustainable.
Unlike POG that I also hold I think OXS has sold some futures this could have some effect on share price
So far I have retained my Marakand shares but I feel they may call on the shareholders for some more funds.

Does anyone have a view on how currency movements are affecting this stock ? Obviously a falling US dollar = a rising gold price, but there is obviously more to it than that.

Thanks for that I checked out that site...some really excellent articles. It is interesting about how bullish eveyone is about silver as well as gold. Do you/ anybody know if there are any UK quoted companies involved in silver mining? Otherwise I hold POG and am thinking about buying some OXS, but why the share price fall in recent times...after all the gold price has not come off that much?

Looking at the OXS chart right now,it could be the right time to pick up some OXS as well as POG,interims for OXS due 25/02/05,you are right gallick the gold price is still comfortable for both these gold producers.

RNS just in today, to give us comfort in these days of need -
Oxus received notification on 30th March 2005 pursuant to the provisions of the
Companies Act 1985 that RAB Capital plc, acting as investment manager for a
number of commingled funds, has increased it's shareholding by a further
7,217,199 ordinary shares and now holds 41,283,836 ordinary shares of the
company representing 14.39 per cent of the issued share capital.
RAB Capital are no fools and have a very strong record in all drilling/mining exploration stocks. I feel in good company to see them increasing their holding. I've been wondering these last few days how political stirrings in Kyrgyzstan might be affecting progress on siging the Jerooy gold mine licence which the (presumably) recently ex-government has just agreed to proceed with, but can see no sign of it in any reports, and this RNS is doubly comforting.
Anhgone else seen anything regarding this issue?

for a start, if it has halved, then the P/E has also halved relative to its gold output... which is rising.
OXS will also be opening a silver project this year. Look shortly for updates on progress.

Hectorp,
I think Oxus is certainly better value now than it was last year at double the price, and we have the silver to look forward to, and possibly reinstatement of the Jeeroy licence.
We shouldn't forget the Marakand stake, and I'm looking for them to increase shareholder value in due course, and hence the value of Oxus's stake.

Oxus Gold pours first silver from Vysokovoltnoye mine in Uzbekistan
AFX
LONDON (AFX) - Oxus Gold PLC said it produced the first bar of silver from the Vysokovoltnoye gold and silver heap leach project in Uzbekistan.
Full production is scheduled for next month and planned mine output is 21,035 ounces of gold and 2.47 mln ounces of silver a year.
The capital cost of the project is 9.1 mln usd and the cash costs of metal production will be about 160 usd an ounce.
Vysokovoltnoye is an open pit mine and is located within the Amantaytau
Goldfields' (AGF) licence area. AGF is owned jointly by Oxus and the Uzbekistan Government.
Oxus expects to produce more than 3 mln ounces in 2006.
'We are very pleased to have produced our first silver from Vysokovoltnoye so quickly, after starting ore production less than two months ago. This is a notable achievement and a key step in our strategy of developing five mines in five years,' said chief executive Bill Trew.

OXUS have finally disposed of the hedge.
Oxus Gold eliminates gold hedge commitment ahead of schedule
AFX
LONDON (AFX) - Oxus Gold PLC said production at Amantaytau Goldfields ('AGF') in Uzbekistan has enabled AGF to eliminate its hedge commitment some three months ahead of schedule. As a result, Oxus is now an unhedged gold producer.
AGF was originally required to hedge 263,096 ounces as a condition precedent to drawdown on the 35 mln usd project finance facility. This facility was repaid to the lending banks in August this year.
Since starting gold production in 2004 AGF has not been able to benefit from the rise in the world gold price as the majority of its production has been dedicated to reducing the hedge position.
Chief executive Bill Trew said now that the AGF hedge has been eliminated Oxus can look forward to 2006 when as an un-hedged producer it will receive the average market price. If gold prices stay where they are, or rise further, this should have a significant impact on profitability, he said.
