Must be lots of us out here, although at the moment I am out of the stock, which is usually an indicator for the stock to rise. That 5+ million 'P' deal today did not seem to have much effect today on the MM's. My view is that THUS could weaken further before trading update on the 31st March but there again that probably means that the stock is due to rise.
By the way we do have another thread on THUS but that seems have dissapeared into the distance, perhaps this one will maintain more interest.
Regards
I hope to get back in THUS very soon

Some good news this morning
RNS Number:6552W
Thus Group PLC
18 March 2004
THUS WINS 42 MILLION LOCAL AUTHORITY TELECOMS CONTRACT
18 MARCH 2004 - THUS Group plc, one of the UK's leading providers of voice,
data, Internet and contact centre services, today announced it has been selected
by Glasgow City Council as preferred bidder for a 42 million contract to
upgrade and replace the council's communications network infrastructure.
THUS emerged successful after a nine-month long tendering process and the
Glasgow City Council project team described THUS as producing the most
'innovative and strategic' tender. Twenty nine organisations expressed interest
in the contract and THUS was chosen ahead of NTL and BT in the final rounds of
bidding.
Bill Allan, chief executive officer of THUS, said: "We are absolutely delighted
to have been selected as preferred bidder for a contract that is vitally
important to one of the UK's largest local authorities.
"We are particularly pleased that Glasgow City Council made it clear that we won
this contract on the basis of our quality and service innovation capability.
THUS is in a strong position to offer significant investment in upgrading the
council's network from existing technology to a fully converged Internet
Protocol network.
"THUS has invested in one of the UK's most advanced telecommunication networks.
The success of this bid is a reflection of that investment and our ongoing
commitment to service quality and product innovation. We have an increasingly
strong reputation for delivering high quality solutions to UK business,
government and the public sector."
This contract with Glasgow City Council will run for six years with a further
two-year option. It will underpin the Council's 'Access Glasgow' programme,
which is dedicated to using technology to enhance delivery of public services.
As part of this programme, the Council's network will need to deliver increased
data and voice services, Internet and video to 400 offices and centres.. THUS
Plc is committed to Glasgow and the implementation of this strategically
important investment in the City's future."
Councillor Ruth Simpson, Convener of Glasgow City Council's Financial Services
Committee, said: "The continuing advances in technology present major challenges
to the Council. We strive to invest wisely to ensure that the Council remains an
effective, efficient and modern organisation. This latest investment forms a
strategic foundation for our Access Glasgow strategy and our efforts to meet the
government's e-government agenda. Investments such as this will all help to make
it easier for the people of Glasgow to contact the Council."

I would have to agree. I'm a long term holder and think that the good news this morning only proves my point, that it's a sound investment! I bought a further 10,000 at the beginning of March @ 36.75. Just wished I had waited a little longer. Never mind though, I'll make it back - and more!

Been fond of THUS for some while and made some good money trading the stock. I am out at the moment encouraged somewhat by Croc advising to short the stock and he was looking for a 20% retracement. He was not far out in price but no timescale or reason was given which would have given some strength to his prediction.
As for the trading statement it told us no more than we already knew except of course the potential 10% increase in turnover, which did not tell us where the turnover is to come from, i.e. is it from low profit wholesale income which will produce little gain to the bottom line or is it from good percentage profit income from good contracts?
I would like to hear lots of opinions on THUS but until I am convinced on the fundamentals I am going to make my investment decisions on THUS purely on T.A.

Seems to me that the THUS clan are few in number on Mam, quite surprising really as it has been a good trading stock over the last few months, with exception to the last few weeks, and investors holding continually from the 9p upwards days have been well rewarded.
Todays trading range has been very tight and 'dare I say it' IMO I think that todays price could be a major support level for the next 3 weeks to the results.
To back my views I reentered THUS today @ 32.44p and now am travelling hopefully once again.
lots of luck

Hello hyleo98
Who predicted 45p? At this point I would mention that I am not critisising your post in any way as I am of the same view, 45p is IMHO clearly obtainable otherwise I would have not made my recent purchase. Do however give more info as to who made this prediction and of course any further details.
This week has I am sure been a dissapointment to you if you are a THUS holder as the share price has dodged around 32p with none of the optimistically expected advancement after the trading update.
However let us not forget that many traders have been protecting their profits with stop losses set around 32p and others activating buy orders around 31p+ and I am sure that when the price drops, or is driven below its support level, which I believe to be around 31/32p surlus stock is picked up by the MM's who I am sure are fully aware of the value of THUS.
Let's be patient for a day or week or two and I am sure that we will be well rewarded.

I am holding from 36.75p, yes it's a little frustrating but I do think their long term prospects are very good, the announcement that they were cash flow positive early was good and I look forward to them becoming profitable. So, long term hold. And every time I say this I end up selling because the stock starts to move the wrong way. So if I've given it the kiss of death can I apologise in advance!

Times yesterday stated that C&W have a war chest of 1.2 billion pounds and they were trying to spend 100 million in Monaco.
Kcom might be a target, but so might Thus, especially as there is a connection between Bill Allan and C&W. In fact they would together make good aquisitions bearing in mind the economies that could result.

Any source for Kingston connection recently
Borrowed from Kingston board on thursday
"Brokerage Seymour Pierce has raised its rating on Kingston Communications KCOM.L to "outperform" from "hold", saying it could be a target for bigger rival Cable & Wireless.
Seymour Pierce analyst Jim McCafferty said he thinks C&W is looking at bolt-on acquisitions, adding that Kingston was likely to be an attractive target.
"Kingston has a "caretaker" management team in the form of CEO, Malcolm Fallen. This is evidenced by the fact that Fallen has yet to appoint a Chief Financial Officer and has been the only executive director on the board since September 2003," said Seymour Pierce in a note.
McCafferty said he believed that Fallen would be receptive to a bid."

Thus in communication breakdown with City
ANDREW MURRAY-WATSON
CITY EDITOR
amurraywatson@scotlandonsunday.com
THUS, the Glasgow-based telecoms company, has fallen out with a leading City institution over a negative research note on the firm.
The circular from Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein placed a reduce recommendation on Thuss shares.
This has led to an acrimonious stand-off between the two companies.
It is understood that Thus is particularly unhappy about the performance of DKW telecoms analyst Sam Morton.
A senior insider at Thus said: "I am surprised that DKW has taken such a bearish view about us, given the fact that we have met every financial target and are now heading towards operational profitability. I do not understand DKWs motivations."
DKW is also house broker to Thuss rival Kingston Communications, on which it has a hold recommendation, and publishes research on a number of other UK telecoms companies.
There is no suggestion that DKWs commercial relationship with Kingston had any bearing on its attitudes towards Thus.
Thus became the first alternative telecoms carrier to become cashflow positive when it reached the milestone in December - three months ahead of schedule.
But Morton said in a recent note that he remained "cautious" about Thuss forthcoming results and expressed "concern" about the firms gross margins.
Thus is also planning a European and US investor roadshow in a bid to broaden its shareholder base and create additional demand for its shares.
A spokesman for the company said: "We now have several very big institutions in the UK that have held our stock for a long time. The best way to increase demand is to promote the company to overseas investors."
Thus will next week unveil full-year results that are likely to be in line with City expectations. The company is set to say that it is still on course to post its first operating profit this year.
Chief executive Bill Allan said in a trading statement last month that the company had "increased confidence" for the coming year.
Thus has steadfastly refused to sacrifice bottom-line growth for the sake of boosting revenues, in the face of dramatic price-cutting from its rivals.
It recently won a 42m contract from Glasgow City Council to upgrade the citys communication infrastructure.
One telecoms analyst, who declined to be named, said: "Thus could easily spend more on capital expenditure on directly connecting customers, like so many of its rivals have done, if it wanted to improve margins. But that would undoubtedly weaken the business in the long run. It has stuck to its guns and now looks like it will do very well."
Thuss shares closed up 2.5% on Friday from 0.75p to 31.25p - above DKWs price target for the stock of 31p.

hlyeo98, there is more to it then general market weakness. Markets are generally stable trading within a narrow band where as THUS has fallen from a year high of 38-39 to it's present low of 25. Personally feel that if it can hold 25 as support then it will be a good opportunity to get back in and try and recoup my loss. THUS is a well run company with an excellent management and deserves to do well which even taken in recent fall it has from historic low of 4-5. I often feel that the boys in the city are apt to bo@@ocks certain companies and of late THUS is one.

Agreed Thus is a well run Co. with a level headed man at the helm
I cannot understand the recent fall in the shareprice but this often the case with the stockmarket
What I would expect to see soon is the old expression of "oversold" somewhere in print and somewhat of a recovery in the shareprice
To anyone who like myself regards Thus as a long term investment to tuck away in an ISA there is still plenty to come yet
On the plus side this is an excellent buying opportunity to invest in a sound Company

UK's Thus sees year revenues rising over 15 pct
LONDON, May 4 (Reuters) - British telecoms firm Thus Group (LSE: THUS.L - news) Plc expects revenue growth during the current financial year to end-March 2005 to come in above 15 percent, its chief executive said on Tuesday.
William Allan told Reuters in an interview that revenue growth accelerated during the second half of last year to 18 percent, rising from 10 percent seen in the first half.
"You could expect to see faster revenue growth this financial year and that will flow through to cash flow and earnings," he said.
Allan said Thus' capital expenditure, which fell slightly to 41.1 million pounds ($73 million) last year, would remain firmly pegged to turnover during the current year at around 12 percent of revenues.
