Traders Thread Friday 16th July 2004 (CROC)

Martini - 15 Jul 2004 21:08

Martini - 15 Jul 2004 21:08 - 2 of 34

In the UK Thursday the FTSE 100 had a miserable day closing down 31.9 points at its lows for the day of 4,340.7 All the wider indices also finished the day lower, except for the small-cap index. (Lets here it for the small caps)

Activity was fairly heavy for a summer session, with the 2.77 bln share volume swollen mostly by heavy trading in M&S and VOD.

Nokia depressed all the European Markets as the world's largest mobile phone maker, warned that earnings would fall further as it cuts handset prices to protect market share and its stock plunged by up to 18 percent a 6 year low.

In the US Stocks traded in a narrow range for most of the day but in the last hour of trading sold off closing like the UK at their lows for the day.

So now attention shifts to upcoming earnings from IBM after the close and the release of the June consumer price index and other data on Friday.

All in all I am glad I spent most of the day away from watching this depressing market enjoying a rather extended pub lunch.

Big Al - 16 Jul 2004 10:47 - 20 of 34

emailpat - not one I watch I'm afraid.

seawallwalker - 16 Jul 2004 11:22 - 21 of 34

emailpat.

I am watching TATE, but not going to buy in for a while unless the price drops to 260 to 270.

IMHO it will at the back end of the year or early spring.

seawallwalker - 16 Jul 2004 11:24 - 22 of 34

Big Al

JKX seems stuck within that 10p range, therfore topped out at the moment.

Do you think the same?

jj50 - 16 Jul 2004 11:26 - 23 of 34

Big Al - Good to have overlap with move; old grot out, your grot in!

Been in London, Oxford, Bath so appreciate being back home and its sunny too. Stocks less sunny. I now know why I only set stop losses in my mind and not in practice - bit of a mess to sort out here. When will I learn??!

Mega Bucks - 16 Jul 2004 12:17 - 24 of 34

ARM having a great day :-)

Big Al - 16 Jul 2004 13:53 - 25 of 34

Fundamentalist - 16 Jul 2004 16:17 - 30 of 34

Mega Bucks - 16 Jul 2004 16:26 - 31 of 34

just a bit of info that surfaced this afternoon from a pretty good source and doing the rounds on this and another site with 5 letters!!!!but as info goes you can not be 100% certain!!!!!imho dyor etc

Big Al - 16 Jul 2004 16:46 - 32 of 34

Longed LLOY in the auction. Added MRS earlier, but other than thaty was far too busy.

zarif - 16 Jul 2004 16:57 - 33 of 34

Megabucks:
If this so called announcements for say "blair resigns" then do i get out of my long position on cable as it has rallied quite well and reverse to a short-just a hypothetical question.

Mega Bucks - 16 Jul 2004 17:02 - 34 of 34

zarif,no advice given it was only some info that was going around i thought i would share it!!!!like most info should be taken with a pinch of salt!!!!
