Morrisons - where now?? (MRW)

stockbunny - 19 Jul 2004 10:46

The chart suggests it could be a dream if you like to buy in on weakness and are prepared to hold if need be for a while to see the price climb again.
Or at least that's one way of looking at it - how do others feel on
the future prospects for Morrisons - looks like the bottom has been called
after the recent fall maybe....

The Brandes (remember MKS) 3.3% stake in MRW is noteworthy. The Times on Saturday (Stella Shamoun) says it is a buy, Ken Morrison is no fool and he succeeded where Green did not, but then Green has also failed at MKS.
Brandes' involvement in both MRW and MKS adds spice to this story.
With markets moving sideways, I think MRW is a good defensive stock with
upside to 220 as a first stop. That said, it could beat the chart and fall further, but even then the long-term trend should be positive, if one is
going to or has to hold for a while and is prepared to overlook the poor yield.

I tend to agree with you and thanks for putting forward this added
info. didn't realise about the Brandes involvement.
Thanks again Midknight and Be Lucky!

Large volume spike on Friday. Would that be significant?

Evil Knevil(?) was trashing these yesterdat on a competitors site.

"""Gentlemen,

I have only just started to think about MRW - since I only reluctantly consider FTSE members for shorting given the institutional coverage that they enjoy. But, that noted, MRW looks to me to be in a very serious financial condition.

The balance sheet is truly appalling and there is copious anecdotal evidence that this Safeway takeover simply has not worked.""""

He does seem to have some influence but, as he says, it's an FTSE stock (well it is at the moment!).

I'm neither short nor long but am watching for a long entry point.

What have we here MRW in trouble, looking to go long if i can get my price, high 160s.Could this be another kwik-save in the future?

stockbunny - 08 Jun 2005 15:32 - 9 of 21

Worth watching but without a total break up, taking private in the
Morrison family or a non-UK buyer in the future, it does look short
on options to me IMHO.
DYOR etc etc

I thought it was a cheap shot by what is normally a decent paper.

I had an entry point of 175p a few days ago but I'll wait for now - I wouldn't be surprised if the hedge funds give MRW a bit of a kicking!

daves dazzlers - 09 Jun 2005 21:27 - 13 of 21

Its nice to just watch at the moment.
