Get out now.
1) Fergie has already said that Man U won't win the premiership this season and the share price dropped the next day. Take this a stage further. It is unlikely that Man U will finish in the top 2 this year and so won't get automatic entry to Europe next season. This will seriously affect their income and the analysts know this.
2) The sale of Beckham seriously affected replica shirt sales in the far east (they follow the man, not the team). Again, a loss of revenue that can't be recovered.
With this in mind, the 3 offer from Glazier is looking more and more attractive to institutional investors. It would not therefore be suprising to see him make his 30% stake in the next few weeks. This could see the begining of the decline of Man U (lets hope so) with a concommitant fall in the sp.

Always a winner reading a post from someone who has no idea what they're talking about. If you're so keen to see MNU fail why are you offering "helpful" advice for punters to leave the share. If you dislike MNU that much it should follow that you also dislike its owners...the very people you are giving advice to. Go figure.

1) It's a little early in the season to make that judgement.
2) His best days are behind him and there are other younger versions in the side.
Institutional investors don't read BB's, so I guess we'll leave it at that then and let this thread slip away.

queen1 - am not giving advice. Opinion. Big difference. Have no grievance with MNU or its shareholders, but must admit to not being keen on Man United.
Big Al - 1) Not my statement. Fergies. I think he has a better idea about his team's prospect than me. As to institutional investors ... time will tell!

StarFrog - it wasn't Fergie's statement I was referring to. It was your "take it a stage further" bit. It's way too early to say they'll finish outside the top 3. Top 2 would be very hard indeed, but 3rd place could be taken by almost any team that isn't Chelsea or Arsenal!!

Starfrog - If you have no grievane with MNU why write that you hope that this is the beginning of their decline? There obviously is an issue for you otherwise why start up a thread with such a provocative title? If you do have some issue with MNU as a business, maybe from some strange ethical standpoint, I would have thought threads on tobacco, arms, or drinks companies would have been more appropriate. So, perhaps it's because you're a follower of another team/business that will just never be able to compete with MNU, either on the pitch or on the stock market. Either way, unless your surname happens to be Glazier and you're trying to shake the SP loose, there appears to be no rhyme nor reason to your thoughts.

queen1 - Damn! Outed! Yes, but in all honesty, my team loyalty has nothing to do with my business sense. I still believe that MNU probably reached their peak this year during the Glazier bid period and would have been a good opportunity to take profit. No doubt MNU shares will rise again over the next few years (IMO) but how long do punters want to hold on? If its a matter of heart ruling head (loyal fans holding shares indeffinetly) then fair play to them - they are still a good investment. The dividend policy has always been healthy year on year. However, for the rest of us gamblers, taking profit at 2.85 was a good decision. The long term moving average is flattening out at a support level of 2.60, but if this doesn't hold the next support is at 2.40.
Good luck to all holders and we'll see you in the Champions League final. (Or Chelski!). :>)

Oh yes we are, very, very loudly. I'm sure that StarFfog has long since left this post and I very much doubt either he or any other Wenger Boys will be on tonight. 4-2 at Highbury. 6-2 on aggregate for the season (not including the 1-0 victory in the Carling Cup). 6 points. Sweet. Oh, and the SP is maintaining a healthy glow.

Hi queen1 - I guessed you might have something to say. Congrats. I could go on about the unawarded penalty for Pires (Bobby, you reap what you sew - crying Wolf, etc).
I have given up on us wining the title race some time ago. Once the gap was more than 7 points it was out of our hands. I still think that we will give you a run for your money, though. Arsenal will be 2nd - once Henry gets his form back.
I am also willing to concede that Chelsea and Man Utd are currently the best two teams in England.
At time of posting, sp heading south. Good luck. :-{

300p a share takeover launched by glazier, mcmanus and magnier rumoured to have agreed to sell him there 30% stake

Not a rumour. McManus and Magnier have sold their stake.
ONDON (AFX) - Malcolm Glazer has purchased the 28.7 pct stake in Manchester United PLC owned by JP McManus and John Magnier, the Irish horse racing millionaires, through their Cubic Expression vehicle.
The block of 75.7 mln shares was acquired from Cubic by Glazer's new vehicle -- Red Football Limited -- for 300 pence a share.
The move takes the US sports tycoon's holding in Man Utd to 56.9 pct, which under UK takeover rules triggers a mandatory offer for the Premiership football club.
The offer will be 300 pence in cash for each share, valuing Man Utd at 790.3 mln stg.
On April 28 the UK Takeover Panel ruled that Glazer, the owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers American football team, must make a formal offer for Man Utd by May 17 or walk away.
On the same day Man Utd's board said it will not recommend a Glazer offer despite repeating its assessment that a price of 300 pence a share is 'fair'.
The board views assumptions in Glazer's business plan as 'aggressive', a reference to the highly leveraged nature of his proposal.
A successful offer by Glazer is dependent on him getting control of at least 75 pct of Man Utd's equity.
The club's army of supporters remain overwhelmingly hostile to the prospect of a Glazer takeover.
They have secured the backing of Nomura, the Japanese investment bank, in an attempt to build a blocking stake.
Glazer is being advised by NM Rothschild.
At 2.28 pm shares in Man Utd were up 34 pence at 299 pence.

As an Arsenal supporter proptrade it doesn't surprise me in the least that that's all you can say. I must admit that I'm quite surprised you even managed that much. Did you have to recover in a cool, darkened room for an hour or so afterwards? You know you really musn't stretch yourself like that.

Interesting day and even more interesting comments.
MNU are probably the only football club in the world that could command such a size of takeover. Wouldn't see Glazer, or anyone else, sniffing around OFEX quoted outfits. ROFLMAO!

If you haven't joined then it is out of your hands.
We are still fighting.
We belive Glazer now has around 67% of the shares.
We have 17% of the shares.
That still leaves 16% of the shares with other people.
We only need 8% more to stop him from transffering the debt (which would effectively force him to leave because he can't repay the debt without using the club).
Join and help us defend our club.
