Some days ago I wished I was outside the market rather than almost fully invested. But not suprised by this drop to-day.(Head in the Sand) Think it may drop another 3-4% before starting a recovery. But if I had cash I would be waiting a few more days-weeks before putting back in. Have to see if there is any recovery in The Colony, SP up on very good volume would be appreciated later to-day and morrow, but again a little doubtful about this happening to quickly. Until then S !!
Unfortunately may be dependant on the B Liar getting in with a reasonable majority. People like stability, and with the Tory party looking like a headless chicken the market would prefer the devil they know.

Well on the up side I have just worked out that my entire portfolio is 3.9% down for the day (that might still change)so its not that big a loss, on the downside if I had sold first thing I would be just over 1.4% down but I would have had to incurr buying back charges and spreads. I did think about that last night as one option. Theres also the fact that we had a bad day friday so say add on another say 2% as it was nowhere near as bad as today and I had some winners. So overall down about 6% since late last week.
I think I have been right to hold and not sell off. In the past I have done so when I thought the markets were going medium term against me. I still may have cocked up on my decision, but I just feel this is a short term retractment.
Anybody else have any portfolio figures??????????????????? ideas on wether we should hold or sell?.
cheers GF.

GF - I'm about 5-6% down on the two days too. Sting in the tail for me was an unexpected final results and equity raising announcement on PGI, just when I'd given up paying too much attention after lunch. That's nearly 1% in itself down this afternoon.
I sold nothing (think, rabbit in headlights) , but was pleased to see that some of my heavier recent positions were holding relatively steady during the day. Mostly it was my quite healthy profit positions that came under attack - am thinking of adopting the 25dma as a stop loss for those stocks that make a large initial rise of 50-200% with no developed chart as a guide. I can always buy back in lower at no loss if they stabilise below say the 50dma. Trouble with a 15-20% stop loss with volatile stocks is you get stopped out on temporary retracements. Look at ASC, BFC, DOO, FOGL, PGI for examples of what I mean I could have done as the chart broke down across the 25dma. It can be used on SEO currently.
What will tomorrow bring?

12 red, 7 green, 7 blue and not big moves, on very low volume - not at all bad for a day when the FTSE100 is down 60.7 points so far.
Blackbelt - why sell on a down day? If you think the market is going to continue the bear phase from end May (as some of the press are saying), work out a strategy to hit the best day to sell between now and then. Do not change your mind on the day because your nice sharesy waresies are now going up -THAT is the day to sell, if you have fundamentally decided to sell, that is.
Otherwise sit it out and protect your position with some down bets on CFD's or spread-betting.

It is a nasty couple of days but just noticed Dow up. For how long G knows.
I think if you have stop losses in position on promises I wouldn't change them I grab the profits. At the moment I wish I have only few profits. Bad couple of weeks. Must start playing phantasy CFDs a bit more seriously.

Does anyone have any idea where this market is going,,my only share that is holding it's own is SEO,,every other one is down and still sliding,,and every day i think we have hit the bottom only for it to slide some more. As Goldfinger said on another thread the MM'S are partly to blame.
Does anyone see a quick recovery ,or is this for the summer..Your view's appreciated..JB..

Started the day with all reds and two greens. At 12.35 there are 5 blues but the majority are still red. The only comfort I take at the moment is that it is a general malaise and not necessarily my poor stock picking.
Sitting tight with most but have done one or two "swops", in particular with NLR which seems very cheap compared with the general views on its potential price in the future.

I think we are still in a bull market, just. As we go through the year and into 2006 I can see the bears having it. If the ftse does not find support at 4600 I think it could go all the way to 4000. All imho.

I read somewhere that the All Shares Index needs 2408-2572 range if we are going to invest from May until September.
It is rather worrying that the forthcoming election has put investors in such a pessimistic mode. The small caps started to take a hammering after the Easter break. Some of the Footsie 100 and larger companies disapointed with their results and/or profit warnings. Many small caps trying to raise money by issuing new shares does'nt help that sector, either.
The shorters are having a field day and people like me are confused by the actions of mms and the poor advice given by brokers and shares magazines.
I expect SEO will get bashed ,although it has held up strongly during the past three days, considering the rest of our favourites!
BBRG seems to be o.k.for 2 day traders and NTLR responded furiously to the low sp today. The market seemed unhappy with Sportingbet's expected earnings nd ID Data is moving the card production to Poland and will probably issue lots of new shares...bang:should I invest now or wait for things to get worse?I,like many others will probably wait to see if Blair gets back in.

I'm doing nothing untill after the election. Unless MMG hit 500 then I'll go on holiday and get the rust spots done on the car.
Have a good one people and don't burn the burgers on the BBQ.

I know its been a long night and there must be a lot of lethargy floating around but I can't believe how green my screen is 25 shares, one blue (just) and 4 reds. Watching paint dry could be quite addictive today.
