MoneyAM Problems?

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 07:51

I am getting a lot of "URL not found messages all over my AM screen. Is this a Money AM problem - or something at my end ???

I am still getting the main screens - I first noticed it last night

Baza

McPaulass - 20 Apr 2005 07:59 - 2 of 83

bhunt1910 Baza, Yes, just to let you know we have the same problems. Regards Paul and Di

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 08:01 - 3 of 83

Hi,

If you clear your temporary internet files (tools / internet options / delete files) you'll soon have our website back in its full multicoloured advert covered glory.

J.

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 08:02 - 4 of 83

Perhaps I will leave it then !!!! - only joking

Baza

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 08:05 - 5 of 83

Have done as you suggested - logged off AM first - then back on - no change ??

IanT(MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 08:06 - 6 of 83

bhunt - did you clear out your temp internet files?

Ian

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 08:13 - 7 of 83

I logged off AM

Cleared my temporary Internet Files

Logged on again

No change

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 08:17 - 8 of 83

bhunt1910,

it's possible that the page has been cached at your ISP's end so you'll just have to wait until they clear their cache (within 12 hours or so)

J.

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 08:20 - 9 of 83

ok - thanks

Baza

McPaulass - 20 Apr 2005 08:21 - 10 of 83

We are in the same position as baza, so if we wait 12 hours should clear???

Regards Di and Paul.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 08:27 - 11 of 83

McPAulass,

This is more than likely the case.

I cannot get the Streaming Charts this morning. I use Mozilla 1.73.on a Linux platform but have never had problems before. Also Level 2 and My stockwatch is fine - just the charts. Is this something to do with the upgrade?

Alan

IanT(MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 08:46 - 13 of 83

Alan,

The upgrade had nothing to do with this area of the site and could not affect it in any way - can you please tell me exactly what you see when you try to pull up a streaming chart?

Ian

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 08:51 - 14 of 83

Di & Paul - I use AOL - do you?

Baza

McPaulass - 20 Apr 2005 08:54 - 15 of 83

Hi Baza, Yes we do use AOL, perhaps this is the problem. Regards Di and Paul

biol643 - 20 Apr 2005 09:00 - 16 of 83

Ian

I just get an X in the terminal frame. Mozilla says loading java applet failed. I have altered nothing this end!

Alan

IanT(MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 09:02 - 17 of 83

Alan,

Very strange especially as you can see other streaming functions - it may be worthwhile updating the Java Plugin that runs the applets to make sure that it is completely up to date.

You can get that from clicking below:

http://java.sun.com/webapps/getjava/BrowserRedirect?locale=en&host=www.java.com:80

Regards

Ian

Working ok now - very weird but at least I'm happy. Thanks for quick response anyway!

Now to see I can block those ads :0)

Alan

StarFrog - 20 Apr 2005 09:50 - 19 of 83

I'm getting lots of 'Not Found' messages all over the place. But as these coincide with advertisers slots I'm not bothered at all. Everything else works fine. Please don't change it. ;-)

IanT(MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 09:51 - 20 of 83

Starfrog,

It is probably due to the reasons stated above, and should clear when your proxy is cleared at your ISP.

Ian

StarFrog - 20 Apr 2005 09:53 - 21 of 83

Thanks Ian, but it really isn't a problem. Everything is much faster now (not that it was particularly slow in the past). :-)

jimmy b - 20 Apr 2005 10:00 - 22 of 83

Anyone know how you clear your temp internet files..JB..

IanT(MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 10:08 - 24 of 83

jimmy,

click on tools then internet opions and then you will see an option to clear temp internet files,

Ian

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 10:24 - 25 of 83

all,

I have just put in place some cache busting changes so the 'no found' errors should reduce on the site shortly.

J.

jimmy b - 20 Apr 2005 10:30 - 26 of 83

Thank you Ian..JB..

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 12:20 - 27 of 83

I am ok now - thanks

Baza

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 13:45 - 28 of 83

Hi - the messages are back again ?? - cannot find URL server etal

IanT(MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 13:46 - 29 of 83

bhunt1910,

That is strange, and could be caused by a proxy, can you try clearing your temp files again and possible doing a restart?

Ian

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 14:07 - 30 of 83

Yep - thats cleared it.

For the record I
1. closed down AM
2. Cleared out Temporary Internet files & local files
3. Restarted my Pc
4. Logged on to AOL - but AOL froze
5. restarted AOL
6.logged onto AM

Thanks
Baza

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 15:18 - 31 of 83

Ian - its gone again - there is a problem somewhere?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 15:29 - 32 of 83

bhunt,

I am unable to reproduce this here, but I will get Jonathan to take a look.

Regards

Ian

IanT(MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 15:33 - 33 of 83

bhunt,

Do you have Internet Explorer on your machine? If so could you try it instead of AOL and let me know if this makes any difference?

IAn

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 16:38 - 34 of 83

It seems to be intermittent - cos now its ok again - but I have just rebooted.

If it goes again - I will reboot and enter via IE

B

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 17:06 - 35 of 83

ok - its gone again under AOl.

So without rebooting - I have gone into IE and gone onto Money AM - no problems so far.

At the moment I can flick between AOL - which still has problems with URL's - although everything else is ok - and IE which seems fine.

I will stay with IE for rest of night and see what happens

baza

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 17:09 - 36 of 83

ok - this is crazy - AOL is ok - and I have not done anything at all - it does seem to be a problem at AOL as one minute it is fine - and the next it is not

(pulling what is left of hair out)

Baza

McPaulass - 20 Apr 2005 18:15 - 37 of 83

Hi Baza,

Sorry haven't been in touch all day, but like you have been trying to sort this problem out all day. Then to top it all, I deal on line with a broker and I could not get my portfolio updated plus the shares were still showing yesterday's prices. I got in touch with them, and asked if they were having trouble but it appears not and they said it must be my Browser. Like you I have tried everything Ian suggested, but cannot get this sorted out.

Yet all the other financial sites are OK. Just my on line broker and Moneyam causing problems.

Do you have AOL Broadband? I am wondering if there is something on AOL that is not compatiable since yesterday causing problems with just these two sites. Like you we haven't done anything to our computer to cause these problems.

It is very frustrating. Regards Di and Paul

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 19:57 - 38 of 83

bhunt1910,

AOL have many many web caches and the one that you connect through changes throughout the day. One may have the broken pages on, one may not.

This would explain your problem.

J.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 20 Apr 2005 19:59 - 39 of 83

McPaulass,

It sounds like AOL's caches were causing problems.

Try using IE rather than AOL's browser, alternatively, switch to an ADSL provider that provides a direct service rather than a cached one.

J.

bhunt1910 - 20 Apr 2005 21:13 - 40 of 83

Di & Paul

Although I have been gettung the URL messages - it has not effected any of the actual services provided by AM - so I have been able to watch stock prices and read investors threads etc etc with no problem.

Yes I am broadband with AOL. - I have had no problems connecting to any other site at all

Not sure that helps.

I did connect to AM via IE - and that seemd ok

Baza

McPaulass - 20 Apr 2005 21:26 - 41 of 83

Dear Baza,

Many thanks for your message. We like you have been able to watch the stock prices and services by AM. Also no problems with other sites other than our online Broker. Have been in touch with AOL for the last 3 hours, trying to sort out problems, NO LUCK Tried to get on IE more problems. What a day.
Looks like we shall now have to set our IE explorer, fingers crossed. We both need a stiff drink, absolutely worn out. Regards. Paul and Di...

Kayak - 20 Apr 2005 23:18 - 42 of 83

Get yourselves a proper ISP chaps, AOL are the pits...

bhunt1910 - 21 Apr 2005 08:13 - 43 of 83

Ian just to let you know that I have exactly the same problems when I go into AM via IE.

I have deleted all temp files before logging in via IE

It starts of ok - then I get the URL message.

However when I switch to (say) the investors screen - it is ok for a while.

Kayak - why do u say AOL is crap - I have been on AOL for 5 years and am generally pretty pleased with it !

Baza

IanT(MoneyAM) - 21 Apr 2005 08:15 - 44 of 83

bhunt,

I will speak to Jonathan to see whether he can offer any other thoughts on this,

Ian

McPaulass - 21 Apr 2005 08:47 - 45 of 83

Ian, Just to let you know we have the same problems as Baza. Regards. Di and Paul

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 21 Apr 2005 08:51 - 46 of 83

bhunt1910, McPaulass,

The problem is with AOL's system and there is nothing that we can do about it :(

J.

McPaulass - 21 Apr 2005 09:02 - 47 of 83

Jonathan, Thank you for replying, spent 3 hours yesterday with the technical department of AOL, but unfortunately they couldn't resolve the problem. Regards Di and Paul

mordor1946 - 21 Apr 2005 09:49 - 48 of 83

i am also getting problem...IE says its connecting to stream (stock watch)...headings appear...but no stock prices etc...same in the trades section

IanT(MoneyAM) - 21 Apr 2005 09:52 - 49 of 83

mordor,

this may be down to a firewall issue - can you make sure you have Java enabled within your firewall. Also if you have Avast webshield installed on your PC I know that this can sometimes cause a conflict,

Regards

Ian

mordor1946 - 21 Apr 2005 09:58 - 50 of 83

nothing has changed since tuesday...all was well then !! but not today ....

IanT(MoneyAM) - 21 Apr 2005 10:01 - 51 of 83

mordor,

An automatic update could have run - can you try disbaling momentarily the things I have mentioned above and try to access then (remember to re enable afterwards)

Ian

angi - 21 Apr 2005 12:27 - 52 of 83

JimmyB how comforting it is read that someone else doesn't know how to clear temporary files. Does anyone know how to get "market maker to market make".

bhunt1910 - 22 Apr 2005 07:17 - 53 of 83

The URL problems are continuing - it does not matter whether I access MoneyAM direct from IE or AOL - I get the same problems. Not all of the UR:s are missing - as I flick from one screen to another some are their and some are not - seems fairly random.

All were present intitially on the home page - when I accessed another page - some were missing - when I returned to the home page - some were also missing - but some were present - on both AOL and IE !!

Baza

bhunt1910 - 22 Apr 2005 07:41 - 54 of 83

I think I have cracked it

Regardless of whether or not I go into AM via IE or AOL - the problem is the same.

On entry - there is no problem - all the URLs are displayed.

However as soon as I go to another screen - say stockwatch - then return to the oridinal page - then the URLs get lost. Almost as though the addresses are being disabled when the screens are switched. Hope that helps?

Baza

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 22 Apr 2005 08:38 - 55 of 83

bhunt1910,

I am 90% certain that it's a problem with your provider AOL as it's only AOL customers that are continuing to see this behaviour.

No matter which browser you use, AOL or IE, you are still using the same connection - AOL.

Unfortunately there's nothing that we can do until AOL sorts itself out.

If you *really* want to see our adverts, would you like me to create a page, just for you, with all our current adverts on it? :-)

J.

McPaulass - 22 Apr 2005 08:54 - 56 of 83

Dear Ian, Johnathan, and Baza.

We are very pleased to report everything is back to normal on AM and our on-line broker. Some days ago AOL asked us to UPGRADE OUR BROADBAND, which we did, it is possible this was the trouble?, because on Wed evening one of the things we got their technical department to do was take of this upgrade. This could have taken a day to sort itself out and it seems we are now OK. Did you upgrade Baza? It could be just a coincidence but it is a thought. Anyhow thank you for all your support trying to sort it out for us. It was appreciated.

Fingers crossed, it will stay OK. Kind regards. Paul and Di.

Kayak - 22 Apr 2005 11:15 - 57 of 83

bhunt, the problem with AOL is that it is not a basic internet connection, they provide you a load of stuff on top which can and does cause problems. E.g. the transparent cache which most ISPs don't have (with broadband it is there just for their own benefit), their own browser, etc. McPaulass's comment in the preceding post is a classic: "upgrade their broadband"... with other ISPs there is nothing to break and need upgrading, broadband is just a physical link. It is only because AOL install all their stuff that it needs to be upgraded.

bhunt1910 - 25 Apr 2005 10:26 - 58 of 83

Thanks to all for advice over problem - I have finally been able to resolve the problem.

At the end of the day I simply had to go into the AOL system information Tools and clear the browser cache. If anyone needs detail info - I can send instruction

Baza

bhunt1910 - 25 Apr 2005 11:09 - 59 of 83

OK - I have had a couple of requests to elucidate on how I got rid of the problems - unfortunately I do not know how to respond to the emails on the BB - so will post it here.

I have AOL broadband aand windows operating system ME.

Step1: Go online to AOL.
Find the AOL icon "keyword" (along the top)and click on this.
Type in the keyword "securefix" and click on GO
Close down AOL

Go to Start then "Programs" then "AOL" then "AOL System Information"

Once the System information tool is open:
Click on the UTilities tab on the top of the window
In the utilities page you will see a "claer browser cache" tab Click this button.
Once the "current browser cache" size is back to zero, click "close" to exit the AOL information tool.

Hopefully by the time you get to this stage the problem will have been solved - so restart AOL and open up Money am as normal.

If it has not been solved. Close AOL again and Reset the security settings by
going to Start - then " settings" then "Control Panel".

Double Click Internet Options, click the security tab and then click the default button.

Click "ok" to apply the changes and Exit.

Once completed - re launch AOL and log into Money AM.

If this fails - then the last stage is to check that you have level 128 encryption - - but hopefully y it will be sorted by now

Good Luck _ I am afraid the instructions above relate to my particular operating system (ME) - but they should be similar for others - I think the key was the deleting of the current browswe caahe to zero

IanT(MoneyAM) - 26 Apr 2005 10:40 - 80 of 83

rivaldo,

Unfortunately, due to the problems we had earlier this may be the case on small caps - the technical team are looking into this,

Regards

Ian

Xargon - 26 Apr 2005 13:09 - 81 of 83

My prices are correct now. Thanks.

Priscilla - 26 Apr 2005 13:18 - 82 of 83

Mine still a mixture of yesterday and today's. Examples, DYS not showing any market makers on L2 but trades going through. Mid price on L2 showing 340, ie no change from last night's close whereas L1 stockwatch showing -2.44%, last night's close. Similar situation to VAN which also has no L2 market makers but trades seemingly going through. Their mid on L2 shows mid 333.5 on a green background while stockwatch, L1 shows the price was marked up 1p or .30%. ROK is another where stockwatch and L2 don't match, but while you are bug-swatting, ROK has a news flag against it but it refers to Rockwell Automation, the US giant, not ROK Property Solutions. I had hoped that bug had been zapped.

I have re-booted a couple of times this morning, including just now.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 26 Apr 2005 13:21 - 83 of 83

Priscilla,

This is due to the outage we had this morning with regadr to missing information which is affecting SEAQ stocks. Due to the loss of information this is displaying as either less MM's than one would expect or no MM's. We have been looking into this but it may be that we are unable to recover the lost data.

With regard to yesterdays data being show, we have again been looking into this, but again this is linked to the outage this morning,

Ian
