IanT(MoneyAM) - 21 Apr 2005 08:32 - 4 of 162

Fundy,

It should be fine now - we think we have found what caused it should now be resolved.

Regards

Ian

StarFrog - 21 Apr 2005 10:58 - 5 of 162

IanT - I've made a silly mistake. Can't use my calculator properly and accidentaly spent all 100K on one stock (rather than 10k). Now I can't buy a second stock to activate my account. Do I need to sell it all at a loss to be able to start again? Or is the fact that I am not yet activated mean that I won't start on a big loss if I bail it all out now?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 21 Apr 2005 11:00 - 6 of 162

Starfrog,

We are going to put a fix in to stop this from happening - you have the option of closing and taking the loss, or we will reset it back for you as a one off but this will not take place until later in the day. If you want us to reset I will let you know when this is done later on.

Ian

StarFrog - 21 Apr 2005 11:06 - 7 of 162

Thanks IanT

If you could reset it I would be greatfull. Am playing as Toadstall.
I better not win the prize now or there'll be a commotion :-)

IanT(MoneyAM) - 21 Apr 2005 11:07 - 8 of 162

Starfrog,

will let you know when this is done.

Ian

Druid2 - 21 Apr 2005 11:40 - 9 of 162

I've bought 3 stocks this morning but my account still shows 100k and I can not see the stocks as purchased. Can you help please?

Edit later - hope you can find my original purchases as one of my stocks has done well since purchase.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 21 Apr 2005 11:41 - 10 of 162

Druid2/All,

There was a problem with the data from the LSE which was causing problems on some accounts - we have had to reset the accounts back to 100,000 sop please accept my apologies for this.

You will need to validate your accounts again and start off with your 2 opening long trades to validate the account.

Ian

bosley - 21 Apr 2005 11:56 - 11 of 162

please accept my apologies but we had to make sure all was fixed and fair,

Ian

bosley - 21 Apr 2005 12:43 - 13 of 162

fair enough. i don't think you should be using the word "fixed" in a comp , though......:)

"we had to make sure all was fixed"

Rebels - 25 Apr 2005 09:03 - 28 of 162

I was about to click confirm but it automatically took the trade and came up with the following 2 errors.

Warning: Division by zero in /var/www/tradinggame.moneyam.com/classes/ticket.class.php on line 154

Warning: Division by zero in /var/www/tradinggame.moneyam.com/classes/transaction.class.php on line 600

But no damange done

IanT(MoneyAM) - 25 Apr 2005 09:06 - 29 of 162

Rebels,

There is no process in place for it to be able to take the trader automatically. I will however pass the error messages onto our tech team.

Ian

Rebels - 25 Apr 2005 09:16 - 30 of 162

Having looked at it further since I made that post - it didn't take it after all. I think the automation took place because I was taking too long to confirm my order and rather than going back to the main page I got something else with a OK/Confirm button thinking that it was accepted but nothing happened when I pressed it.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 25 Apr 2005 09:29 - 31 of 162

Rebels,

YOu have a maximum of 30 seconds to accept the price and place the order - it does seem from what you have said that it timed out on you.

However, it shoudl not display an error message at this point so I will get the guys to look into that. Thanks for the update,

Ian

little woman - 25 Apr 2005 11:35 - 32 of 162

Decided to register!

Now all I have do is some research and how it all works!

moneyplus - 25 Apr 2005 16:19 - 33 of 162

Where do we go for updates and progress reports?

Greystone - 25 Apr 2005 16:32 - 34 of 162

moneyplus - If you click on "View league" on the account page of the game, you can call up the top 50 and the specialist leagues.

moneyplus - 25 Apr 2005 16:54 - 35 of 162

cheers Greystone.

simonpaynton - 25 Apr 2005 16:54 - 36 of 162

Just like the real thing, I purchased some shares and they all went down :)

mackem - 25 Apr 2005 19:32 - 37 of 162

This should provide some excellent free entertainment, hats off
to moneyam for this exciting new game.
Is there a limit to what sized market cap shares you can buy ?

packman7 - 25 Apr 2005 20:53 - 38 of 162

Ian,out of hours orders you say are purchased at a 08.10 in the morning. Why was my purchases placed out of hours on the 21st not actioned till 12.07 on the 22nd?

Bullshare - 26 Apr 2005 06:39 - 39 of 162

mackem. As long as its listed any market cap.

packman7. We had a small problem on opening with anLSE feed so on that day we had to do it at the first opportunity which was midday. Hopefully it was a one off

IanT(MoneyAM) - 26 Apr 2005 07:38 - 40 of 162

packman7,

I will get the guys to look into this,

Ian

janesteve - 26 Apr 2005 07:57 - 41 of 162

i tried to sell some stocks on friday and they havent been actioned yet

IanT(MoneyAM) - 26 Apr 2005 07:59 - 42 of 162

janesteve,

I will get the guys to take a look into this - was the trade during market hours or out of hours?

Ian

janesteve - 26 Apr 2005 08:01 - 43 of 162

the trades were during market hours

TAMAYBROKE - 26 Apr 2005 08:32 - 44 of 162

is their a general problem this morning with streaming prices, still have yesterdays trades showing while others are showing todays and are up to date?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 26 Apr 2005 08:38 - 45 of 162

TAMAY,

We had problems on the main site this morning which would have affected the agem - I will get the tech guys to take a look to see if there are any residual problems,

Ian

mackem - 26 Apr 2005 09:17 - 46 of 162

I cannot seem to do a trade, i enter the minimum volume required and
it comes up "chosen volume does not meet minmum requirements" ?

mackem - 26 Apr 2005 09:22 - 47 of 162

And now it works :-))..wish it did that when i tried to buy Oxb at 28p.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 26 Apr 2005 09:32 - 48 of 162

mackem,

this was due to the outage we had on the main site earlier - please accept my apologies,

Ian

mackem - 26 Apr 2005 09:33 - 49 of 162

No worries, i'm already enjoying the excitment this is creating,
it's ok when it's not real money, take more risks.

gorwel22 - 26 Apr 2005 14:51 - 50 of 162

i have dealt out of hours, but deal is still not done

IanT(MoneyAM) - 26 Apr 2005 14:53 - 51 of 162

.

superrod - 29 Apr 2005 14:17 - 54 of 162

how come im doing the opposite in the comp to my real trading but still losing? LOL.

a free hedge bet i thought. the snag is that real trades would affect the price i suppose.

ah well back to the lottery.......great fun though

EWRobson - 29 Apr 2005 18:09 - 55 of 162

I had the same problem with dealing out of hours. However, I was able to cancel them and repeat the actions. Great competition and the analyses are excellent. Interesting how the bears are winning although not surprising given the market. haven't shorted a share in my life so perhaps this is the chance to do so!

Eric

MaxK - 29 Apr 2005 20:54 - 56 of 162

Is there a prize for the peep who loses the lot first?

EWRobson - 29 Apr 2005 21:53 - 57 of 162

I'm not sure that its actually possible to lose the lot! For instance, its very difficult to spend it all as there is normally a few p left in your account. -:)

jimmy b - 30 Apr 2005 10:31 - 58 of 162

I was wondering that MaxK im doing pretty well at the moment ,lets see who can get under a tenner!!!..JB..

EWRobson - 30 Apr 2005 20:41 - 59 of 162

jimmy B: bet you a tenner you can't do it! Eric

jimmy b - 30 Apr 2005 22:50 - 60 of 162

Well Eric,, i was doing well on the first day (ranked 5th) which stands for nothing as i was probably the 5th person to join,,but due to watching other real stocks i neglected the game ,,silly really as there is bigger money to be had here than on the bloody real market..Opened my CFD account this week,,,Cheers .JB.

ptholden - 04 May 2005 09:09 - 61 of 162

I take it that ones account details do not update on a real time basis? My bid / offer prices on stocks purchased do not reflect real time data.

PTH

Greystone - 04 May 2005 11:54 - 62 of 162

PTH - Correct. Account prices are updated at thirty-minute intervals (I think), although prices are live when you place an order or ask for a quote.

Rebels - 04 May 2005 12:51 - 63 of 162

I haven't been able to successfully activate a sell at all after 15 minutes of pressing - Nothing!!! This contended system, which will allow a fixed number of game players to see a live price at any given time must be a low value or a lot of people are trying to trade at the same time - is there any plans to resolve this?

EDIT:
OK, discovered that the [Sell] [Buy] link don't work but now found another way to get to the sell screen.

On another note, I did manage to get to the sell screen at one time but the figure I entered where number of shares rather than value and therefore it was rejected or what that the other way round, anyway, it was rejected but it still took the 10 commission and I now have a cash balance of -9.73 which is negative.

Rebels - 04 May 2005 14:43 - 64 of 162

EWRobson - 30 Apr'05 - 20:41 - 58 of 62
jimmy B: bet you a tenner you can't do it! Eric

I'd take that bet back Eric! All you have to do is keep on selling one share at a time and it will cost you 10 a time. Keep on doing it'll reduce your holding to less than zero.

StarFrog - 04 May 2005 14:45 - 65 of 162

Account prices are updated each time you reload the screen. Press F5 (PC users)

ptholden - 04 May 2005 16:37 - 66 of 162

A good two days, up from 370 to 7th. Wahey!!

EWRobson - 04 May 2005 20:51 - 67 of 162

Hey, pth, how did you do it? Rebels has decided to go for the lesser prize of a 10 bet - doesn't qualify because he's gone negative whereas the actual bet awas for exactly zero. Could be either plus or minus zero, mind. Great game this: I am going to come through with a late rush on the outside; not telling anyone how!

ptholden - 04 May 2005 21:59 - 68 of 162

Eric,

Started a little late and rushed two trades through, one highly speculative, which is in profit and one solid pharma which isn't going to go anywhere anytime soon. Should have given it all a little more thought, might have to bin the pharma unless a miracle occurs!!

PTH

Rebels - 05 May 2005 09:59 - 69 of 162

IanW,

I think the whole problem about division by zero and sort of accepting your trade, but not carry out the transaction but taking the commission is due to putting in commas in the value fields. I.E. 200,000. From experience, it doesn't like it and treat it as zero and does funny things - I daren't do this again to verify if this is the case as I lose 10 everytime I do this. You have something to work on here and see if this is indeed a problem - I could be wrong here. Now, why did I put in commas in the first place? Your examples says something along the lines of max volume allowed 200,000 so I copy the 200,000 and paste in the input fields and press enter and things goes wrong when I do that.

EWRobson, nah, I am not aiming for the 0, I'm going after the grand prize me!!! But something tells me I might come last.

Greystone - 05 May 2005 11:57 - 70 of 162

Until it is checked out, I think it would be the best idea to omit "commas" from quantities... Seems to work fine that way.

I.E. 1,000 should be entered as 1000 etc.,

bosley - 12 May 2005 08:40 - 71 of 162

seems to be a glitch as it wont recognise cap as a company, even full company name.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 12 May 2005 08:40 - 72 of 162

bosley,

I will get the tech guys to take a look.

Ian

akel44 - 14 May 2005 15:35 - 73 of 162

month 2:
who is in front between a and b
month 1: a -50%
month 2: a -10%

month 1:b +10%
month 2:b +30%

Kayak - 14 May 2005 15:39 - 74 of 162

If you mean

month 1: a 50,000
month 2: a 90,000

month 1:b 110,000
month 2:b 130,000

Then obviously a, since 90/50 is a greater percentage increase than 130/110.

akel44 - 14 May 2005 15:39 - 75 of 162

because the rules say the one who makes the most percentage, i think

akel44 - 14 May 2005 15:44 - 76 of 162

is that how it works?
if so i might have a chance

Kayak - 14 May 2005 15:47 - 77 of 162

It's how it works, although b would have a better chance for the final 3,000 prize of course...

akel44 - 14 May 2005 15:49 - 78 of 162

ok

birronce - 16 May 2005 13:34 - 79 of 162

hmmmm, skandia may have been a mistake

xmortal - 18 May 2005 09:47 - 80 of 162

Can anyone tell me which CFD company offers trading on AIM companies. If not the FTSE 350. Much appreciated

jimmy b - 18 May 2005 09:50 - 81 of 162

xmortal try Barclays ..

xmortal - 18 May 2005 09:52 - 82 of 162

Jimmy b

I know they are v good but could not find if they do CFD on AIM companies. Do they trade on AIM?

jimmy b - 18 May 2005 09:54 - 83 of 162

Yes definately, you have to cover 20 or 25 % of your position as opposed to 10 %

xmortal - 18 May 2005 10:09 - 84 of 162

coolio. thanks Jim.

xmortal - 18 May 2005 10:14 - 85 of 162

I enrolled in the champion investor, however I am confused as to closing a short. Do I buy the share and then will it closed itself or do I have to buy it and then sell it again. Please explain

IanT(MoneyAM) - 18 May 2005 10:19 - 86 of 162

xmortal,

All you have to do is buy back the equivilant number of Shares - this will close the short for you,

Ian

xmortal - 19 May 2005 09:01 - 87 of 162

Hi Ian,

I had few longs and when I sold them they revert back to sell, and viceversa. They are still showing in my account as that. Should they dissapear once the position is closed and money shown as credit?? plse explain. ta

IanT(MoneyAM) - 19 May 2005 09:11 - 88 of 162

xmortal,

If youhave a long and then sell out it will clear from your current holdings but will show in the summary as a seperate transaction of a sell. Any profit or loss will then be taken into account and the balance will be adjusted accordingly, taking into account any remaining positions and liabilities.

Ian

xmortal - 19 May 2005 11:24 - 89 of 162

Ian. Sorry to bother again. It seems to have worked for some of my stocks, eg RPT, however, I had ISYS as long, then sold it and now apppears in the open position table as short. Same with LUP, had it as short, bought it to close it and now it is in the open position table as long. I thought the open position table should clear those stocks once they have been closed? all confusing!!

xmortal - 19 May 2005 14:25 - 90 of 162

Would be grateful if you could look into it plse (post 88)

IanT(MoneyAM) - 19 May 2005 14:28 - 91 of 162

xmortal,

Many apologies I missed your earlier post I will take a look at your account,

Ian

IanT(MoneyAM) - 19 May 2005 14:37 - 92 of 162

xmortal,

How exactly are you doing the trades - are you clicking on the sell next to the position, are you entering the epic in get quote and then performing the transaction, or are you going clicking on trade and then performing the transaction?

Also when you do the trade, which box are you filling in with the volume before you trade?

Ian

xmortal - 19 May 2005 15:53 - 93 of 162

I am executing the buy/sell in the open position table and on the trade tab. if I going to close a short, I proceed by filling the the buy box and if closing a buy I fill the sell box. I am not searching for the EPIC code if i want to close a positio, I am just using the table and trade from there. Please explain the step I need to do when carrying out the correct transaction. Soz for this Ian :-)

IanT(MoneyAM) - 19 May 2005 16:08 - 94 of 162

xmortal,

We will take a look into this and get back to you,

Ian

xmortal - 20 May 2005 11:42 - 95 of 162

Hi Ian, any news?? Thanks

gallick - 20 May 2005 13:40 - 96 of 162

IanT(MoneyAM) - 23 May 2005 13:41 - 102 of 162

I think I can see what you are trying to do - you are trying to access a Shares Magazine article which is why it is not letting you - this is only for magazine subscribers - to access the game you will need to use the link I have posted above,

Ian

akel44 - 23 May 2005 13:42 - 103 of 162

oh right

akel44 - 23 May 2005 13:47 - 104 of 162

I think it could be that im executing my trades using the open position tables, instead of going thru the trade tab and then seaching for the epic and trade there. let me know

Kayak - 24 May 2005 17:33 - 112 of 162

xmortal: when you close a position, are you using the "maximum trade volume" it suggests. If you do you will square and reverse, i.e. close the position and open the opposite one. In other words the maximum trade volume is more than the open position.

Dil - 25 May 2005 16:51 - 113 of 162

Hi xmortal , long time no see , I missed you.

:-)

xmortal - 26 May 2005 00:06 - 114 of 162

Kayak, thanks so what do u me to do so it does not open the position again when I wanna close short trade?

Dil. Hi! I missed u too.

Kayak - 26 May 2005 02:23 - 115 of 162

xmortal, look at how many shares you have open on the right hand side of the ticket and use that amount rather than the maximum amount, which would open an opposite position.

Shame it's only for three months, as it seems to have been well supported. Just managing to hold it together atm, shame I took a block of Corus just at the wrong time:( - Entertaining all the same. Good job guys, are you going to run it again, if so, will it be over a longer period?

Bullshare - 01 Jun 2005 06:41 - 119 of 162

Nitefly; Yes first game ends at end of July and we will launch a new one with a longer life we hope.

Thanks for the quick response BS.

hewittalan6 - 01 Jun 2005 12:40 - 122 of 162

bullshare,
how many entries in total??
alan

hewittalan6 - 01 Jun 2005 13:09 - 123 of 162

In fact a better question might be; what was the worst performance, mine was abysmal but i'm sure their were worse!!!
no roll call, just a percentage loss figure would cheer my day up no end!
Alan

ilanderton - 02 Jun 2005 10:11 - 124 of 162

hewittalan

If you look at the monthly leader 'ravey-davey-gravy' is up 16.67% in June with 24,465.99 implying s/he lost around 80% in May

hewittalan6 - 02 Jun 2005 10:14 - 125 of 162

bloody amateur, any idiot can lose that, I managed that in a couple of days!!LOL
Alan

jimmy b - 02 Jun 2005 10:20 - 126 of 162

I think i can beat you alan , im trying to get down to a tenner!

hewittalan6 - 02 Jun 2005 10:55 - 127 of 162

Thats easily done, mate. Simply ask me what long and short positions I am taking in real life and copy them. Got a great track record in turning silk purses into sows ears.
Good luck with the tenner, and if you need help to get there, go short on YOO. Confident this one is about to rocket.
Alan

hewittalan6 - 02 Jun 2005 11:02 - 128 of 162

Another good tip to lose the lot, JimmyB. Invest in a shopping trip for my missus. She can blow 100 grand faster than an ethnic lesbian on a loony left council (can I say that, is it politically correct?).
Unfortunately you would be unlikely to see the tenner ever again.
Alan

jimmy b - 02 Jun 2005 11:36 - 129 of 162

LOL, yes you can say that , im sure it was worded properly

jimbobGR - 03 Jun 2005 16:40 - 130 of 162

U seen the person In 8th on monthly has under 8,000

jimmy b - 03 Jun 2005 18:54 - 131 of 162

Dam it !! he's beating me,

akel44 - 07 Jun 2005 14:46 - 132 of 162

once you have chosen your minimum 2 stocks in the competition
can you then revert to having 1 stock only, with all
your money on that one stock,

IanT(MoneyAM) - 07 Jun 2005 14:48 - 133 of 162

akel44,

yes once you have validated your entry by taking out the first 2 positions as per the rules, you can then hold as many or as few stocks as you want (or can afford)

Ian

akel44 - 07 Jun 2005 15:08 - 134 of 162

ok thanks

akel44 - 08 Jun 2005 07:56 - 135 of 162

oh one more question, are your buys and sells timed to the minute
the reason for asking is,lets say i buy 2 stocks at 9 o clock
then immediately transfer everything into just one holding in just a few minutes,"will everything be valid"

IanT(MoneyAM) - 08 Jun 2005 08:29 - 136 of 162

Akel,

Please note there is a 30 second timeout which means that you cannot place a deal straight after another one you must wait 30 seconds

Ian

arawli - 10 Jun 2005 07:49 - 137 of 162

HI There

I have some CFP shares in my portfolio and their EPIC was changed to DGT a couple of weeks ago but my p/f has not been updated and is showing a loss when I should be at break even.

Could you have a look at it

Cheers

Andy

IanT(MoneyAM) - 10 Jun 2005 07:53 - 138 of 162

andy,

we will take a look into this,

Ian

IanT(MoneyAM) - 10 Jun 2005 10:36 - 139 of 162

Andy,

This has now been adjusted,

Ian

mackem - 10 Jun 2005 11:46 - 140 of 162

Overall league positions dont seem to be updating as quick Ian ?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 10 Jun 2005 11:58 - 141 of 162

mackem,

The league table updates every 30 mins or so - a thing which may cause it not to update at this interval is if any of the stocks on the exchange are for example placed in auction. This would cause to update 30 mins later.

The figures in the Account section are a snap shot taken at the time you access them

Ian

mackem - 10 Jun 2005 12:05 - 142 of 162

Thanks Ian.

akel44 - 10 Jun 2005 15:08 - 143 of 162

are all the positons and percentages in the league tables
based on mid or sell prices?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 10 Jun 2005 15:10 - 144 of 162

Akel,

They are based on the value from the portfolio - so a short would be based on the current offer price and the opposite for a buy,

Ian

mackem - 10 Jun 2005 15:15 - 145 of 162

Those overall positions Ian have not changed or updated since
this morning.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 10 Jun 2005 15:23 - 146 of 162

mackem,

We will take a look at it - your portfolio figures are correct, and if there is a problem, we will resolve it in good time.

akel44 - 10 Jun 2005 15:25 - 147 of 162

i have noticed a company, with two epics "fas" and "fasw"
if i buy fasw,is it a ligitimate buy, has they look as if
they could be warrants which are not allowed, but they do have a trading epic

mackem - 10 Jun 2005 15:26 - 148 of 162

.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 10 Jun 2005 15:28 - 149 of 162

Akel,

YOu are correct byut you are only allowed to buy the actual equity i.e. FAS

akel44 - 10 Jun 2005 15:35 - 150 of 162

well i have been holding fasw since last month
HELP! whats my next move, and what effect will this have ?
i am in the top 20

IanT(MoneyAM) - 10 Jun 2005 15:40 - 151 of 162

akel,

If the game has let you buy it you can hold onto it or sell it when you want,

Ian

akel44 - 10 Jun 2005 15:57 - 152 of 162

they have a buy and sell price and are on the LSE
and my buy was accepted as its in my portfolio,
so its seems ok,

IanT(MoneyAM) - 10 Jun 2005 16:11 - 153 of 162

all,

A Company called TNJ had been without an offer price all afternoon - if there is something like this out there the table will remain static as it has so as not to give people a completely false view.

when this is resolved the leagues will be gin to update again

IanT(MoneyAM) - 10 Jun 2005 16:12 - 154 of 162

KArl is going to resolve this

mackem - 10 Jun 2005 16:16 - 155 of 162

Thanks for the updates Ian.

akel44 - 15 Jun 2005 16:26 - 156 of 162
