[Maintenance] Site downtime Friday 28th April 2006 @ 2100

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 28 Apr 2006 16:00

Hello,

I'll be taking all of MoneyAM's websites off line from 2100 hours tonight to upgrade our webservers.

This work shouldn't take more than 2 hours.

I will post once the work's completed.

J.

MightyMicro - 28 Apr 2006 16:13 - 2 of 89

J,

I will post once the work's completed.

Well, you won't be able to post before, mate! :))

Mega Bucks - 28 Apr 2006 16:15 - 3 of 89

J,could you not take it down at 21.00 after the US has closed ???

Mega...

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 28 Apr 2006 17:22 - 4 of 89

Mega Bucks,

I guess so. You owe my GF a bottle of wine though as an apology for her losing an hour of TullettJ Lovin' ;)

Mega Bucks - 28 Apr 2006 17:33 - 5 of 89

No,take it down at 20.00, i can do without it,i dont want to take you away from your Lovin :-))) Enjoy your evening :-))

Mega...

DocProc - 28 Apr 2006 17:51 - 6 of 89

Hmmm?

The only way I could get to read this thread was to Right Click and select 'Open in New Window'.

PS. And my browser cache empties every time I close the a browser window.

Seymour Clearly - 28 Apr 2006 22:07 - 7 of 89

You pessimist JT. That only took 67 minutes.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 28 Apr 2006 22:08 - 8 of 89

Seymour Clearly,

I'm still working on it, it'll be up and down for a while yet.

J.

Seymour Clearly - 28 Apr 2006 22:11 - 9 of 89

I'm getting the posts in when I can JT ;-)

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 28 Apr 2006 22:37 - 10 of 89

SC,

Good on ya :)

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 28 Apr 2006 22:38 - 11 of 89

all,

The work is now complete.

There may be a few problems logging into the site for a few hours, however if you're reading this then you've succeeded in logging in :)

If you notice anything wrong, please post here; I'll be monitoring this thread all weekend.

J.

Seymour Clearly - 28 Apr 2006 23:55 - 12 of 89

JT, I notice that my address bar at the top always flashes up the yellow login of https when it obviously checks the cookie status before going into the thread list. It's obviously different from last time but I feel the login problem should be a bit more invisible than this. Just trying to help.

Seymour Clearly - 28 Apr 2006 23:56 - 13 of 89

And now it's stopped doing that! I retract my last statement.... ;-)

MightyMicro - 29 Apr 2006 00:23 - 14 of 89

SC: You need to get your eyes tested, mate!

Mega Bucks - 29 Apr 2006 01:15 - 15 of 89

All working fine here :-)

Mega...

Kayak - 29 Apr 2006 01:27 - 16 of 89

MB and others having problems, delete the cookie called www.moneyam[n].txt if you're using IE, or JSESSIONID if using other browsers.

Mega Bucks - 29 Apr 2006 01:37 - 17 of 89

Still working fine, are you having problems them Kayak :-))

Mega...

Kayak - 29 Apr 2006 01:38 - 18 of 89

Must go and get my eyes tested too MB, posts keep changing before my eyes :-)

Mega Bucks - 29 Apr 2006 01:46 - 19 of 89

I can introduce you to a good optician,a Mr Clearly is his name :-)

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 03:31 - 20 of 89

SC/all,

A few artifacts of the old system will be displayed until the cookie which was set yesterday expires (it was set with a 24 hour expires timeout so it'll be sometime today at the latest)

Once that's done, hopefully everything will be more stable.

Hopefully :)

J.

Seymour Clearly - 29 Apr 2006 08:18 - 21 of 89

Aha. I can get in on IE but not on Firefox. But then I never use IE so it looks like a cookie problem. I've jsut sent an email to support, but using Firefox I keep getting the login page.

Nothing (much) wrong with my eyes MM. They're age-normal!!!

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 08:37 - 22 of 89

SC,

Yep, that's the cookie issue, it should resolve sometime today.

If you want to speed things up, if you go to 'tools / options / privacy / cookies / view cookies', scroll down until you see 'moneyam.com' in the list, expand 'moneyam.com' by clicking the arrow and then delete the cookie with the name of JSESSIONID.

Unfortunately this issue wasn't something we could work around and is the reason why we decided to do this work late on a Friday - to allow everything to sort itself out by Saturday night / Sunday at the latest...

Let me know how you get on with the cookie guide above (if you decide to do it...)

J.

Kayak - 29 Apr 2006 09:44 - 23 of 89

I had to delete the cookie again this morning JT, otherwise I was stuck in the login loop.

Mega Bucks - 29 Apr 2006 09:54 - 24 of 89

J,had the same problem here :-(

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 10:06 - 25 of 89

Hmm.

Is this with accessing the bulletinboard, or some of the streaming pages?

If it's with the BB, and it happens after 9pm tonight (please let me know!), then I'll work on the code changes needed to stop it from happening in future. I'm not convinced that it's not still the same issue as yesterday...

J.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 10:33 - 26 of 89

I've made those changes anyway, and they're deployed and seem to be working.

Please do post if you continue to have issues.

J.

Mega Bucks - 29 Apr 2006 11:21 - 27 of 89

J,my main puter, which runs FireFox and IE use to work a treat, when i use IE i get the main webpage up and go to login it just goes to a blank page, this page cannot be displayed,i then go and delete cookies and still the same, just the main website appears, but nothing after that :-(
When i go to login with Fire Fox,i get the webpage up,but not complete, when i put username and password it just loops back to login again, once again the cookies have been deleted, this i noticed is only on the puter with win2k pro installed, the others with xp are ok !!!!

J,if you have the energy after last nights Lovin, could you help us please :-)))

Mega...

Kayak - 29 Apr 2006 11:44 - 28 of 89

MB, apparently he did it without her even waking up...

Mega Bucks - 29 Apr 2006 12:05 - 29 of 89

K :-)))

hawick - 29 Apr 2006 12:15 - 30 of 89

I'm in on Firefox, no problems so far, but will the site's IP number change, as I had problems the last time that happened as my security settings barred me, and took ages to sort, thanks?

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 13:01 - 31 of 89

hawick,

MoneyAM's IP addresses haven't changed since November 2002 (before we open to the public), so no, they've not been altered.

Mega Bucks,
That seems like a very odd problem if only Windows 2000 is affected. Is there any software running on there that isn't on the XP machines, perhaps different firewall or something like that?

J.

hawick - 29 Apr 2006 13:07 - 32 of 89

Thanks JT.
Also, Mega, I use windows 2000 pro with firefox and have no problems so far

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 13:15 - 33 of 89

Mega Bucks,

Would you mind going here: http://www.moneyam.com/temp/show-headers.php

with the browser that doesn't work and then email me the output to: spooky@moneyam.com (please do not post it here!)

Thanks,
J.

Mega Bucks - 29 Apr 2006 15:21 - 34 of 89

J,info sent, dont work late again tonight, you want a early night in with the GF for Lovin :-))

Rick...

Mega Bucks - 29 Apr 2006 15:58 - 35 of 89

spooky you have mail again !!!!!

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 17:23 - 36 of 89

What a nightmare :)

I've knocked up a script which should reset your cookies for you.

If you point your browser (if it's not allowing you to log in properly) to:
http://www.moneyam.com/temp/cookie-reset.php

it should remove any old (stale) cookies you have and allow you to log in properly.

Let me know if you continue to have issues, please.

We're sorry for the inconvenience this is causing, however, when it's all working properly, the improvements will be worth it!

J.

Mega Bucks - 29 Apr 2006 17:26 - 37 of 89

J,FireFox is working on this puter Ok,all i need to work on is the IE version, will try that link of yours.

Mega...

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 17:34 - 38 of 89

Mega Bucks,

Good luck!

J.

DocProc - 29 Apr 2006 18:18 - 39 of 89

Done the cookie re-set.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 18:29 - 40 of 89

DocProc,

Did it work?

J.

DocProc - 29 Apr 2006 18:35 - 41 of 89

Erm, err.....well, erm, er, let's say, so far, I'm fairly, erm, er, optimistic....

;-)

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 18:40 - 42 of 89

DocProc,

Good, so am I.

Sodding computers.

J.

Kayak - 29 Apr 2006 19:10 - 43 of 89

Well I was doing fine, impressed I was still logged on after having gone away for dinner and come back, and then it logged me out as I clicked on Later Posts on this very thread.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 19:29 - 44 of 89

Kayak,

Hmm.

I can see the sessions that have been created, one at 17:20 and another at 19:09, each on different clusters.

The only way I can see this happening is if your session at 17:20 expired, or if your cookie expired.

Could you check what timezone your machine is set in, and whether it thinks it's in BST at the moment or not. (Control Panel, Regional Settings...)

Very strange...

J.

DocProc - 29 Apr 2006 19:43 - 45 of 89

Hmmm? All is still OK for me but I've gone slightly less optimistic after reading that.

By the way, I'm on 'GMT Daylight Time'.

Is this correct; is it the best and if not, what is?

Kayak - 29 Apr 2006 20:16 - 46 of 89

Jon, I'm in Togo at the moment, could that be the problem?

Just joking, yes summer here :-)

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 20:32 - 47 of 89

Kayak,

Even if you were in Togo, it shouldn't be a problem as long as as the clock is set right for the timezone the computer's in.

I'm putting it down to you doing something odd. Perhaps your magic privacy proxy thing cleared it after a few hours of inactivity. Yes, that's most likely it - your fault ;)

J.

optomistic - 29 Apr 2006 20:48 - 48 of 89

All back working for me now.

Kayak - 29 Apr 2006 20:50 - 49 of 89

OK if I'm the only one logged out henceforth then I'll believe your explanation :-)

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 21:42 - 50 of 89

optomistic,

that's good; I'm glad everything's ok.

J.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 21:43 - 51 of 89

Kayak,

:)

J.

Seymour Clearly - 29 Apr 2006 21:53 - 52 of 89

Back in without any difficulty on Firefox now. Thanks. (PS I didn't do anything except wait!).

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 21:54 - 53 of 89

SC,

Excellent news. Thanks for your patience.

J.

Kyoto - 29 Apr 2006 21:57 - 54 of 89

I always have to log in several times a day. Plays havoc with my Terminal windows. Will the new server setup cure this problem?

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 29 Apr 2006 23:31 - 55 of 89

Kyoto,

Hopefully. You'll need to be browsing round the site to keep your session active, any page should do it - the session timeout's set to 4 hours (that's 4 hours of total inactivity)

Let me know how you get on.

J.

Kayak - 29 Apr 2006 23:36 - 56 of 89

Just logged in again :-)

chocolat - 30 Apr 2006 02:01 - 57 of 89

Heyyy so did I :))

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 30 Apr 2006 02:51 - 58 of 89

Kayak,

Are you sure that none of your privacy software is shortening the lifetime of the cookie we provide?

I"ve only had to re log in when I've left the terminal for more than 4 hours so far :/

J.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 30 Apr 2006 02:56 - 59 of 89

hmm.

perhaps not.

I'll do more testing tomorrow.

J.

Kayak - 30 Apr 2006 07:50 - 60 of 89

You're a lot like my wife, nothing is ever her fault either :-)

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 30 Apr 2006 08:58 - 61 of 89

hehe :)

Having been thinking about this into the early hours, I came to the conclusion that you'd only been using the BBs.

With the code we put in place last week, doing this would indeed keep your session open on the appservers, however your cookie would still expire (prompting you to log in again)

We'll be fixing this today - I'll post when that code's live.

J.

chocolat - 30 Apr 2006 13:53 - 62 of 89

JT - dunno if this is a general 'bug' problem or related to your tweaking :)
but the Forex news appears to have disappeared into the ether.

MightyMicro - 30 Apr 2006 14:22 - 63 of 89

Choccie: If you mean the News slot on the right of Hil's thread header, then that is correct. The site she links to is currently reporting No News Available. If you mean something else, then send JT a stiff memo ;-)

aldwickk - 30 Apr 2006 17:56 - 64 of 89

Since the site shut down , a message keeps poping up asking me to click yes or no to this message, Downloading non-secure content from a secure Web site . every time i move about the site.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 30 Apr 2006 18:54 - 65 of 89

aldwickk,

sounds like you're browsing over an HTTPS connection, you can confirm this by seeing if it says 'https://' at the beginning of the location bar. If it does, remove the 's' and press return.

J.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 30 Apr 2006 19:37 - 66 of 89

Hello,

We've been coding and testing another set of changes which should resolve the random logout issues that people have been having when using the bulletin boards.

When this is done, everyone will be logged out of the site automatically, but should be able to log in again straight away.

J.

chocolat - 30 Apr 2006 20:12 - 67 of 89

Thanks fx furry :)

Ok lurvegod - consider yourself stiffly memoed.
Check yer malebox ;)

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 01 May 2006 09:19 - 68 of 89

chocolat,

We delete all news articles older than 24 hours that aren't directly related to a stock (ie, have an epic against them) except if they're RNS articles.

If there were no forex bulletins yesterday or Saturday that would explain why searching was returning no articles.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 01 May 2006 09:20 - 69 of 89

all,

You may (or may not) have noticed, but due to unforseen circumstances I wasn't able to do the code drop last nght.

It will go ahead tonight after market close. As part of the code drop, you will be logged out of the site.

J.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 01 May 2006 20:36 - 70 of 89

all,

I've just put live the changes we've been working on for the last couple of days (hence you just being logged out).

You should no longer be logged out of the site if you only view pages like the BB (as was reported on Saturday.)

Please let me know if you experience any odd logging out behaviour.

J.

Mega Bucks - 02 May 2006 07:28 - 71 of 89

J,since the changes last Friday,my main puter running win2kpro is as just a waste of time trying to run MAM on,i have changed no setting apart from what you have said,IE get the main website and login screen, after trying to login it goes straight to a blank screen and the popup green advert,it worked a bit better on FireFox over the weekend then this morning went to login and all i get is a load of rubbish and login loop !!!!AS luck i have 3 backup puter running win xp and they seem ok.Any other site on the web it will run no problem just this one website, have you any ideas before it goes out throught the ******* window.

Mega....

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 02 May 2006 07:35 - 72 of 89

Mega Bucks,

This is indeed rather odd.

Having attempted to log in, can you please go to http://www.moneyam.com/temp/show-headers.php and email me the output again.

Thanks,
J.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 02 May 2006 08:20 - 73 of 89

Hello,

Sorry about that brief outage there, the cause has been identified and rectified.

J.

Snip - 02 May 2006 08:20 - 74 of 89

everything I click on mam is giving me a security box to click before I get access

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 02 May 2006 08:22 - 75 of 89

Snip,

If you look at the Location bar at the top, you'll see it's got 'https' at the beginning of it. If you remove the 's', everything should be back to normal.

J.

Snip - 02 May 2006 08:25 - 76 of 89

Thank you TJ

Ian no need to reply to my email if it was a tempory glitch.

opto,

No it wasn't just you we did have a temporary issue - Jonatahn has now fixed this, but any problems let me know,

Access again...... :-)

Seymour Clearly - 02 May 2006 09:35 - 81 of 89

Having lots of problems this morning, slow or no login, pages loading slowly or not at all. This all fits in with the glitches you've already mentioned but the reliability is disappointing as I only have this morning to day trade during this week and next :-(((

DocProc - 02 May 2006 09:36 - 82 of 89

Was that one or two temporary issues?

:-)

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 02 May 2006 09:51 - 83 of 89

DocProc,

Perhaps 3 then.

We are working on them...

Kayak - 02 May 2006 22:08 - 84 of 89

On the plus side, I haven't been logged off all day.

chocolat - 02 May 2006 22:09 - 85 of 89

I get logged out at least three times a day, and I find the site slow to refresh quite frequently. Not a complaint, just saying..

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 04 May 2006 07:33 - 89 of 89

splat,

We are currently looking at these issues. I hope to have an update in the next few days.
