I have just received the the latest computer from Dell which has a polish keyboard.

This keyboard has several shortcuts that take you direct to the following,

How to claim
Attendance Allowance
Attendance Allowance (Your Partner)
Bereavement benefits
Blue Badge Scheme
Carer's Allowance
Carer's Allowance (Your Partner)
Carer's assessment
Child Benefit
Child Tax Credit
Community care services
Community transport
Concessionary Fares
Constant Attendance Allowance
Disability Living Allowance
Legal Aid

I think its been designed for when the Bulgarians and Romainians arrive at the start of next year!

New PC finally arrived yesterday evening and I'm just setting it up.

1st impressions - you can keep windows 8!

You'll be wearing socks'n'sandals next, skinners! :o)

New operating systems are always a bit of a grind at first 'cos you are used to your usual system, but am looking forward, one day, to getting rid of my Vista machine, so probably W8 going to be my new toy. Watch out for the polish keys skinny!

Never together Hils, never together :-)

Harry, its the 'luddite' in me :-)

Only niggles so far, the day I ordered it, the spec omitted a 19-1 card reader - my fault for not checking more closely, and more annoying, it came with 3 power cables (only 2 needed) but 2 of them were European and thus useless.

Have been using the free AVG AntiVirus for a long time but was wondering is it the best free one,was wondering if Avast was a good option and is less power hungry ?? Can anyone help me on this one please ???

If you don't have a touch screen, Win 8 is a pain. There is some method of downgrading it to look like more normal Windows.

Haystack - 03 Apr 2013 11:29 - 10092 of 11003

I now just use the free MS Security Essentials for Chris protection and the free firewall from Comodo.

tyketto - 03 Apr 2013 11:43 - 10093 of 11003

DO NOT DOWNLOAD COMODO>
It is very intrusive.
Once on your machine there is no way of removing it.
Avast is fine.

skinny - 03 Apr 2013 11:47 - 10094 of 11003

Actually after a couple of hours, W8 is growing on me (no touch screen).

I've been advised by a security expert friend to use the proprietary Defender that is integrated into W8 and can be downloaded as MS Essentials with W7.

Any free 'Office' recommendations?

Haystack - 03 Apr 2013 11:49 - 10095 of 11003

Comodo is very easy to move. I have no problem at all with it. I have been using it in one PC for two years now. My kids have it on their PCs and laptops and so does my wife. I find it quite unobtrusive compared to other free ones I have tried.

Haystack - 03 Apr 2013 11:51 - 10096 of 11003

Win 8 often is delivered on PCs with Macafee or Norton preinstalled by the PC makers. Both of them are resource hungry and should be replaced.

hilary - 03 Apr 2013 11:58 - 10097 of 11003

Hey, Skinners. You might like to try these:

Software tagged 'office'

Kingsoft Office Suite Standard 2012 with 22% off.

Kingsoft Office Suite Professional 2012 with 22% off and there's a free trial download to check if it's any good

Mega Bucks - 03 Apr 2013 12:00 - 10098 of 11003

Out of the free AVG or Avast which one is the less power hungry as i hate using excess resources just to use a AntiVirus.

skinny - 03 Apr 2013 12:00 - 10099 of 11003

Haystack, it doesn't take much effort to get W8 to look like this.

Also Macafee isn't pre-loaded you are supplied with a software key to download it - which I won't be.

HARRYCAT - 03 Apr 2013 12:01 - 10100 of 11003

Avast is the best free one for PC's, imo. I also ditched AVG. However I installed Avast on my mobile phone and it slowed it down so much that I had to uninstall it.

skinny - 03 Apr 2013 12:02 - 10101 of 11003

Thanks Hills - I'll have a look.

HARRYCAT - 03 Apr 2013 12:02 - 10102 of 11003

C'mon skinny! You can get a better wallpaper than that surely??? ;o) [I know, don't call me Shirley!]
