Win 8 often is delivered on PCs with Macafee or Norton preinstalled by the PC makers. Both of them are resource hungry and should be replaced.

Hey, Skinners. You might like to try these:

Software tagged 'office'

Kingsoft Office Suite Standard 2012 with 22% off.

Kingsoft Office Suite Professional 2012 with 22% off and there's a free trial download to check if it's any good

Out of the free AVG or Avast which one is the less power hungry as i hate using excess resources just to use a AntiVirus.

Haystack, it doesn't take much effort to get W8 to look like this.

Also Macafee isn't pre-loaded you are supplied with a software key to download it - which I won't be.

Avast is the best free one for PC's, imo. I also ditched AVG. However I installed Avast on my mobile phone and it slowed it down so much that I had to uninstall it.

Thanks Hills - I'll have a look.

HARRYCAT - 03 Apr 2013 12:02 - 10102 of 11003

C'mon skinny! You can get a better wallpaper than that surely??? ;o) [I know, don't call me Shirley!]

Gis a chance!

Haystack - 03 Apr 2013 12:06 - 10104 of 11003

The Win 8 picture above is fine, except there is no Start button and the program menus are very different.

skinny - 03 Apr 2013 12:22 - 10105 of 11003

Haystack, I was sceptical, but it doesn't take much effort to get it to look 'comfortable'

From the screen above the windows key & 'C' bring up this.

I use it every day and it still irritates me. I have used a touch screen and it is just what it is intended for. The closing of 'apps' is also a pain unless you use Alt F4.

There you go Harry.

Oooooh lovely. A scantily clad nymph on the foredeck of the boat there and a fast car on the jetty and all would be complete! ;o)

tyketto - 03 Apr 2013 13:51 - 10109 of 11003

Haystack.
Apologies.
The remove facility has been added long after I installed it.
It did not have it originally.
I'm now on Avast(free) and Private Firewall(free)

Balerboy - 03 Apr 2013 20:42 - 10112 of 11003

Agree harry, I have used both avg and avast, avast seems to update quietly in the background whereas avg brings comp to a stop almost whilst updating.

skinny - 05 Apr 2013 07:44 - 10113 of 11003

Does anyone run a 3rd monitor via USB?

Seymour Clearly - 07 Apr 2013 20:37 - 10114 of 11003

Mega, I use Avast free at home, on my mobile phone, and run paid-for avast at work, and am perfectly happy. There doesn't seem to be any difference in performance between the free and paid versions. Avast is very good at spotting the occasional dodgy website and warning you!

Avast for my mobile (GalaxyS2) works well with no noticeable effect.

skinny - 09 Apr 2013 13:58 - 10115 of 11003

Further to post 10113.

Any views on the pros/cons of running a 3rd/4th monitor by either a 2nd graphics card or a USB to VGA/DVI connector such as this or similar?
