Birmingham Pie and a Pint

Fred1new - 31 Oct 2004 17:08

Any punters living in Birmingham Area interested in a Pie, Pint and jaw, one evening in a pub in Birmingham area.
Personally interested in small time investing(gambling), developing an appetite for CFDs. Also developing an interest in Charting or TA.

I use Sharescope, Moneyam, Barclays, Comdirect and IC

"Some are routed that way.", Wonder if Virgin know that? still they can't actually pick up so not taking customers away.

Certainly interested in that SG Seminar, only a 20 minute walk from New St.
"Location: Aston Business School Conference Centre, Aston Triangle, Birmingham B4 7ET"

Don't forget that's also the venue of the Birmingham Beer Festival in September. Can I suggest that we have September's meeting at the same time there. Details of the 3 day Festival are not yet available, I will post when they are.

this is last years .....looks interesting.....

90+ new beers and old favourites from all over UK, Trad cider and perry, Interesting selection of imported bottled beers, Festival Food, Live entertainment from 8pm Thu + Fri eves, Tombola and CAMRA products.
http://www.camra.org.uk/event.aspx?o=246543

There was still enough beer left for the Saturday night visitors to enjoy a good session.

I couldn't go last year but did the year before (a lunch time session which was nice and quite), not a bad venue and with a good food choice as well (which can sometimes let a festival down).

..... Stan ..... you might be interested in this (which has some events on same day as you'll be here for the Queen's Arms)...

Any one having any thoughts on going to the SG thingymajig on 23rd June at Aston.....?

Stan - 26 May 2008 14:13 - 1017 of 1427

Yes I certainly am interested in your link Chris (I will have a look closer later), thanks.

At the moment I definitely am interested in that SG on 23rd June at Aston.

Also I may be able to sample some of the stuff from The Bewdley Brewery, as some of the "outlaws" are coming to stay with us later this week and a suggested day out is on the Severn Valley Railway (stopping at Bewdley of course)...once again thanks for the link -):

Probably be at the SG do, all else being, etc, etc. Will book nearer the time.

Any idea of any means of going long/short on British Bank Holiday weather?

survived87 - 26 May 2008 17:03 - 1019 of 1427

I'll probably be going to the SG event as well ....

.... for the first time I saw a Wrexham & Shrops train this morning ...... t'was stationary at New Street first time I saw it ... then saw it go past Curzon Street at about 11.09 - so presume it was the 08.55 from Wrexham that's due in London at 13.15. There's a Chiltern Railways 11.12 departure from Snow Hill to Marylebone ..... presume the W&S would end up in front of that?

Just to remind everyone,

Thursday 5th June at 4pm. for our next meeting.

Address: The Queens Arms
150 Newhall Street,
Birmingham.

This is a new venue for us so any newcomers will have to just turn up and have a scout around for 3 or 4 blokes at a table.

55011 - 02 Jun 2008 12:07 - 1021 of 1427

Noted.

survived87 - 04 Jun 2008 18:50 - 1022 of 1427

I assume tomorrow is still on....? I should be able to get to Queens sometime between 16.10 and 16.30....

Fred1new - 04 Jun 2008 20:35 - 1023 of 1427

I hope so. I don't intend dying for a least a month or two.

Have a good time.

Tempted to join you, but I think I would be divorced if I came out on my crutches.

Stan - 04 Jun 2008 22:04 - 1024 of 1427

Yes meeting still on for tomorrow, see you all there from 4pm onwards.

Good luck with your recuperation Fred.

>I would be divorced if I came out on my crutches

Yes, Fred, have a good recuperation....

...the famous Davenports vans will soon be making home deliveries for the first time in a generation.

Stan - 05 Jun 2008 10:03 - 1026 of 1427

Oh well spotted Chris,

Is this a possible new venue for consideration as our meeting place after today?

Don't know if I will have time today to do some pre-meeting research, but looks worth considering.

Just to remind everyone for today.

Thursday 5th June at 4pm. for our next meeting.

Address: The Queens Arms

Birmingham.

Edit: Just had a look at a review of that Davenports pub...not good.

until a year or so ago this pub was great, albeit very smoky. However the last few visits have greatly reduced my appreciation of this pub. The beer doesn't appear to be kept as well as it was and the staff are now useless. It's a shame as for that part of town it was a great pub.

..... still reakon that The Barton Arms is the best / most consistant .... they've got Kreik on tap......pity it isn't in the City Centre ...

Stan - 05 Jun 2008 13:46 - 1028 of 1427

I agree, the best pub but not in the right place -):

survived87 - 05 Jun 2008 20:00 - 1029 of 1427

I hope you caught your respective trains etc. OK......

Dales liquid stuff quite nice .... but would have been good with a Durian ......

The durian is the fruit of trees of the genus Durio belonging to the Malvaceae, a large family which includes hibiscus, okra, cotton, mallows and linden trees. Widely known and revered in Southeast Asia as the "King of Fruits,"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian

And can you take it home with you in the plane? Forget it! .... All personnel of Thai Airways (and doubtless of other airlines too) have had a special "durian smelling" training! I once was at Bangkok airport, waiting to get into the plane, when suddenly one of the Thai stewardesses seemed to get completely out of control: "WHO HAS DURIAN" she cried out and did not rest until she has confiscated that smelly fruit.

Stan..... here's the "The Old Contemptibles"
http://www.birminghampost.net/news/west-midlands-news/2008/03/31/old-contemptibles-toasts-industry-award-65233-20697504/

PS: Fred .... we hope to see you on the next outing (SG Aston?)..?

55011 - 06 Jun 2008 09:57 - 1030 of 1427

Another good meeting. (The totty did indeed duly appear).

Nice pub, but beer a bit pricy for the "bare boards" ambience.

Good run back, to find the Dow was nicely up.

I see Chris' references above to that which should not rise to 30,000 feet. I guess we'll just have to save up to keep him in beer next time!!

survived87 - 06 Jun 2008 18:19 - 1031 of 1427

there used to be a few good pubs in easy walking distance to Aston Triangle ..... presume one or two of them remain ..... anyone going to SG seminar fancy a Quick Brew before the event....?
