How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?
Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Went down about 30 minutes or so ago. Not a happy bunny here as trading the SAA Open golf and in a strong position before it went down.

Good evening guys, well the Newcastle v Man Utd was an interesting game 'bettin g wise' I backed the 'Correct Score 2 - 2' @ 26 greened up at 12 after Man/U netted thier second for a 123% profit (the lay went to 1.04 by the bell)! Shame I did'nt hold on to the end would have bagged 2300% profit !!!
All went to plan for a change, happy with the days work, a good start to the new year.
Peter Webb - if you are around, do you know of a way I can refresh the Betfair pages more often than every 30 secons pls, (Apart from buying Bet Angel)!
Tia for any help you or anyone else can offer.

Gary Russell has a couple of freebie scripts on his website for IE and Firefox which allow you to define your own refresh rate.

chartist - go to
http://www.autobet.co.uk/software.php (opens in new window) and near the bottom you can get a free download of Betfair Tools. Actually there's only one tool available - an auto-refresh - which lets you set refresh rates down to 0.5 sec.

sealed - the autobet one seems to only refresh the prices within a Betfair page, whereas any other refresher I've come across reloads the whole browser page, and you don't want to try that in the middle of a horse race when you're betting in-running!

there are 2 versions of betangel, the pro one is the one you have to line Scrips pockets for but the basic version is free and gives you every second refreshing as well as one click betting

no probs pip, it obviously doesnt have all the bells and whistles of the pro version but if all you want is the refreshing and one click betting it does the job nicely

Best advice id give is to try to get used to the betfair website if youre not already.
Open up horse racing prices about ten mins before a race and just watch how they change prior to the race starting
Get used to placing both back and lay bets (id advise only using 2 stakes)
Watch a game of football with the prices on betfair open and watch how they move throughout the game and how they change on major events (goals/sending offs etc)
Feel free to ask further questions and ill try and help if i can

Greetings everybody. Great to see the thread reappear again. I hadn't made an effort to bring it back because I knew MAM had some sort of deal with Mansion and I didn't really want to cut into that as most of you know I only use Betfair. All those points aside I don't really have time to maintain a thread any longer but you are welcome to chat away and I can pop in from time to time.
Things have changed a lot since I started the thread back in Oct 2004. I now do an absolutely enourmous amount of volume with Betfair, much bigger than I ever could have imagined. I thought that maybe trading on Betfair would be a fad and would pass away but things have grown much bigger than I ever thought possible. The interesting thing is that it appears to be gaining momentum rather than slowing. Another interesting thing is that a lot of financial traders seemed to have completely missed the opportunity.
Bet Angel has grown also and is now a fully fledged company in its own right. Having worked so hard through investing to escape the rat race I now find myself back into the same old mode of managing staff, suppliers and customers again! However I still split responsibilities between trading and running Bet Angel, though it has to be said the former is much more enjoyable and profitable.
Hope you are all doing well.

Thanks, I'll take it slow with small stakes at first and hope to learn some strategies
on the course.

Some incredible amounts of money won and lost on the first goalscorer market on the Carling Cup Final. A lot of people thought a 140% lay book was a sure fire profit. They didn't read the rules.

Managed to get the software, there must have been a temporary problem with the site!
Hi Scripophilist,
I visited the Bet Angel site and there seems to be a problem trying to gain access to the Bet Angel free version. I keep getting "problem loading page" error message. I dont know if the link is dead or you have server issues?
