How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Some incredible amounts of money won and lost on the first goalscorer market on the Carling Cup Final. A lot of people thought a 140% lay book was a sure fire profit. They didn't read the rules.

Managed to get the software, there must have been a temporary problem with the site!

Hi Scripophilist,

I visited the Bet Angel site and there seems to be a problem trying to gain access to the Bet Angel free version. I keep getting "problem loading page" error message. I dont know if the link is dead or you have server issues?

Rgds

Scrip

the probs came from a so called moneyexpert forum

knew something was up with the market but didnt quite realise what to capitalise. Went into the game with 4 players worth between 500 and 1500 green wih no red but wasnt to be :-( just wisjed Toure had shoved Walcott out of the way and shot himself ;-)

an example of how mad the prices were: Toure 95 down to 34, Essien 90 down to 25, Lampard 22 down to 12, Drogba 9.6 down to 6.2 in the 2 hours pre match

Hi Fundamentalist,

I Managed to get the software, there must have been a temporary problem with the site!

Thank you anyway!

I was in London with the kids on Sunday so I missed all the action. What was your view on the match. I was surprised with the line up thought it would have been nice for a bit of chance of some silverware.

Interested to see an ex-saint score!

Fundamentalist - 27 Feb 2007 00:35 - 10155 of 10502

The line up was spot on, the players that got us there deserved the chance (and embarassed Chelski for periods). the big downside was no potential injuries/suspensions for key players which weve ended up with big time after the handbags at the end (though what Toure was sent off for im not sure and how Lampards was only yellow!!!)

That said. Lampard got shown up for how ordinary he was by Fabregas and Denilson, he had one shot from 25 yds and apart from that was anonymous

Ultimately the key to the game was Senderos isnt good enough to handle Drogba (as has been proved too many times now), shame Djorou didnt play instead

Ps must sort to meet up for a game of golf tho may be April/May now as looks like i may finally have to have my knee sorted properly :-(

Scripophilist - 28 Feb 2007 17:49 - 10157 of 10502

I've always wondered about the wisdom of these line ups though. Worth going for some silverware surely? Anyhow, there's still the champions league isn't there?

Scripophilist - 28 Feb 2007 17:50 - 10158 of 10502

Betfair have asked me to talk at the active investor event on Monday. If any body wants a chat come over and see me.

All we got left now and currently were not good enough

tonite was very frustrating, felt we got mugged by a bad ref and Blackburns only shot on goal in 180 mins (great tho it was). Thought Poll was his usual joke, refused to book/send players off for bad fouls but happy to book for trivial matters and as usueal nevers gives anything in/around the box

Clearly Baptista will be heading back to madrid and Senderos wont be first choice once Toure and Gallas are available (and Djorou in my book) though would expect some strengthening at centre half for next year, otherwise the future still looks bright

How many teams could go away to a top half prem side missing the following players and still dominate (if not win :-( ) Lehman, Hoyte, Djorou, Toure, Clichy, Fabregas, Rosicky, Diaby, Flamini, Adebayor, Van Persie, Henry

Scripophilist - 01 Mar 2007 08:41 - 10160 of 10502

I can't see them winning the CL league though. That said I couldn't see Liverpool winning it either a few years ago!

Fundamentalist - 01 Mar 2007 11:08 - 10161 of 10502

Cant see us getting through to the next round at the moment, not scoring in PSV could prove very costly with our habit of shipping a goal to the oppo when at home

I have been using Bet Angel basic over the last week or so and have a question that I'm hoping can be answered? When betting on horse racing I have noticed that there seems to be an in-play feature/function which seems to allow for a wild fluctuation in price movement during the race. This in-play only seems to appear during certain races though and not all of them is this a known bug?

Hope this makes sense to any Bet Angel users out there?

bakko - 06 Mar 2007 09:48 - 10163 of 10502

Ian, The "in-play" feature you mention indicates the race is underway and the odd fluctuations are directly proportional to how each horse is performing during the race.

eg fallen horses will go instantly to 1000-1, horses that have little chance of winning will drift out as the race progresses.

Hope this helps.

Iankn73 - 06 Mar 2007 16:21 - 10164 of 10502

Hi bakko,

Thanks for replying, the problem is the fact that the in-play feature doesnt always appear on Bet Angel during a race and your just prompted with "suspended" at race end?

Rgds,

Ian

bakko - 06 Mar 2007 17:29 - 10165 of 10502

Cant really comment on the Bet Angel basic version as I'm currently using Pro (paid up version). The green "in play" indicator always kick in on the off.

Maybe its a bug in the freebie version to encourage you to switch onto Pro lol

hangon - 06 Mar 2007 17:39 - 10166 of 10502

Horse-racing.
I know nothing about this....but I thought all betting stopped as soon as the horses were lined-up? That being the case, all bets become zero-volume.
Is it possible that racing-horses outside the UK have different rules?

Iankn73 - 06 Mar 2007 17:40 - 10167 of 10502

Thanks bakko,

There is definately an intermittent problem with the basic version then as the in-play feature doesnt always appear! as you say maybe a deliberate bug to get you to switch. LOL

Can anyone confirm whether the "in-play" feature is limited within Bet Angel Basic?

Rgds,

Iankn73

hangon

all uk horse races go in play, they are suspended at the off then turned in running a few secs later (all unmatched bets cancelled) on betfair

betfair have recently started offering some of the US races in play as well and i guess they would like to do so for all horse races (though think may have legislation issues doing so in Australia)
