Does anyone know what is happening regarding comensation for the shares, I know most people are saying we will get zilch, although hope is not lost for the small investors that bought the shares at a small price, news has been published that the hedge investors will take legal action against the govenment should the compensation be less than 4 whilst i apperciate that we may get nothing, i have heard little news on whats happening - does anyone have any views on this and the time scale?
your honesty will be appreciated.

Lets correct that, compensation from the government paid for by the tax payer.... Lets not forget by taking the government to court the tax payer gets the bill, can the tax payer actully be sued...?? Good question, if not you get nothing if so then something which I guess would be pretty small.

Just wanted to share this quote from the FT with you all:
"Northern Rock's results -- with almost surreal understatement, Northern Rock's executive chairman described 2007 as 'challenging'. Given that the bank went bust, one shudders to think what a terrible year might be."

But the former CEO has still trousered a 760K payoff. Results show how opaque bank profits really are - almost looks like they can be massaged at will to meet Board requirements.

Halifax, FWIW I suspect the Administrators would have to make mincemeat of NRK's auditors, as well as Management - this might be popular with the Public ( who really are due some "bloodletting", er, IMHO) . . . . . but it would beg the Question - why wasn't the FSA et.al aware of this pending fiasco?
IMHO that is somewhere near 2004 when they were actively providing Mortgages that were above the value of the property, even after the valuations were inflated to keep the market bouyant. The Gov too was "in" on this lie, believing that the Public wanted rising prices, even though it was creating a distortion that young wage-earners could not buy their own home.
Whichever way it is played, there will be some embarassing statements that our Gov will find hard to swallow. Along with many ex-employees who lost their life-savings (in shares) there was the many Pension funds that lost money when the truth was Out. I suspect there was a "false Market" as the Government delayed/dithered and this might lead to class-actions . . . . . . memories of the Queues will be with us for many decades . . . the UK was the disgraced Banking System, after all.
All IMHO - DYOR.
