Llanteg, I don't have access to o express at the month but you are right about the outgoing messages, it may be something in security settings stopping html can you check that? Stopping html can be a good thing so if you want to do that see if the moneyam stuff can be sent as rich or plain text. I an writing this from a mobile device in the street in barcelona so I can't check more at the moment. Good luck I am sure we will sort this problem out for you

Spaceman from a street in Barcelona...I am impressed but perhaps you should be in a tapas bar about now.
Optimist "read all messages in plain text" is unchecked so I am no further forward. I will have to get on to moneyam again I suppose.

Anyone got any ideas as to why my PC would be 'crashing' recently?
It has happened when I have been online each time, but that could
be coincidence.
When it happens both keyboard and mouse wont work
at all. Ctrl,Alt,delete wont work, can't quit out of the screen or
get any response from it at all.
But the really 'dodgy' thing is that the on/off button on the computer
wont operate, it is 'stuck' on, can't be manually turned off,
and the only way to do anything except
sit and look at a frozen screen is to cut the power at source, by
pulling the plug out of the wall socket.
Has happened 4 times this week - getting very worried....
Any ideas would be appreciated - thanks!

Thanks Optimist - I'll buy you a drink in GD's tea-rooms!
Yes loads of free disc space - rotten thing is only 18 months old too and
NO I didn't take out any 'extended warrenty' thing either at the time.
I have run a full virus check and that is up to date too.
I have dumped the excess 'stuff' you can which is cluttering things up
like temp.internet files etc and I've emptied the Recycling Bin!
I will de-frag. next - thanks for the idea - it hasn't been done for
about a month so maybe....
Have checked external connections and cleaned what is accessible externally
but do you mean open the box up and take a look at the internal stuff?
Sorry - I'm one of those irritating people who 'just use' their PC
and have no techno. savy!

Will do Optimist and thanks again for the help.
After de-frag. yesterday appears I have several possibly
corrupted files - brought to my attention as they would not de-frag -
which I am going to look into first before taking the cover off etc.
If I discover anything worth passing on I will post it here for others.

I think I asked this before about networking PC's etc but????
I have broadband with AOL on the main PC using the modem supplied by AOL. I want to connect another PC to access the internet on a wireless network.
PC World say that AOL will not permit internet connection thru an internet gateway. I must say that when I had two PC's networked together using bt as the service provider they worked OK but when I changed to AOL it failed to work. Even the network printer failed to work after a period of time.
Before I commit myself by buying various wireless router etc can anyone unequivocably state that AOL is suitable for my use.
Both PC's have Xp.

2Abbey, AOL uses NAT (Network Address Translation) which is I believe the reason there are problems sharing a dial-up connection. I don't know if broadband suffers from the same problem but surely the only unequivocal answer is going to come from AOL itself? Try their help pages.
Not sure why you're using AOL since there are plenty of much cheaper and better broadband providers. Try Pipex or Plusnet. There is plenty of information at http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ .

When I signed up you contracted for 12 months. Even when I was having problems with the broadband setup and they failed to fix the problem I informed them that they were in breach of contract, that I was going to terminate etc.
A broadband indicator is flagged against your telephone line, they were unwilling to remove it and no other supplier would take on my custom without this being removed.
I quite agree with you that there are other suppliers out there but it seesm that I am locked into a contract (5 months to go) with a supplier that is operating restrictive practises and doesn't seem to be bothered about customer satisfaction.
The website wireless gateway seems to suggest that these problems are not insurmountable, however I am reluctant to buy wireless kit if it will not work.

2Abbey, there is information at ADSLguide on the message boards, e.g.
here . It doesn't look good. Personally I would ditch AOL asap and get yourself a proper ISP. AOL is a prehistoric beast dating from the days there was little content on the Web and ISPs provided it themselves. Most people don't need that anymore.

2abbey, I agree with what others say, ditch AOL, I hate AOL for the way they play with internet standards and stop things working. They DO stop you sharing the link and they also stop several other things. Get shot of them ASAP and start again with a decent ISP.
