Mediwatch - Watch them rocket in 2005 !!! (MDW)

overgrowth - 12 May 2005 22:21

Mediwatch is a small company destined to become a much bigger fish by the time this year is out. Mediwatch are already a market leader in urological medical diagnostics equipement and are currently exporting their products throughout the UK, Canada, Europe, India and Japan. That doesn't leave much of the globe left for them to capture - until you remember the good ol' US and China. These are the two massive markets which are destined to be added to MDW's export client portfolio by the end of 2005.

The company is currently heavily undervalued. This is probably because Mediwatch's speciality is not a very glamourous business to be in as their equipment is used extensively to diagnose prostate cancer in men and other nasty urological conditions affecting both men and women. However, don't let that put you off investing in these guys. This is big business and is growing at an exponential rate as more and more people globally become health-aware as they get older.

Mediwatch normally supply their products through to global markets via distribution agreements. They already have the best of distribution partners in the well known US medical distributor CR Bard who supply Canada and Europe and GE Medical who supply Japan. The UK business is handled by Mediwatch's own dedicated sales team.

US FDA approval was gained for MDW's products at the start of last year, however a whole year of US legal wrangling meant that they were unable to seek a suitable partner for the crucial distribution agreement until the start of this year. This distribution agreement is expected by the board to have a "significant effect" on the share price so they are reluctant to give any clues as to when it will be signed, sealed and delivered. The general consensus is that this US distribution agreement will be announced in July/August. In China and Hong Kong, MDW have done things the other way round. They have set up distribution agreements with major Asian medical equipment distributors and have stock already out there waiting to sell into the markets - all they are waiting for is SDA approval (which is a "rubber stamp") from the Chinese authorities - this can take anything up to 12 months to come through and MDW applied during Autumn 2004 - so even more good news coming soon this year. Epidemiological data from British Association of Urology conference last year: On average 30-45% of all men between the age of 50 and 70 have at least one PSA test per year in the US / Italy / Australia.

If that's not enough to convince you to invest a few hard earned coppers in MDW, they are also developing a PSA stick test product (PSAWatch) which is revolutionary and causing some excitement in medical circles. This product can also be adapted (at very low cost) for a whole spectrum of medical disciplines from Cardiology to Veterinary Practice! This product is likely to be released in the next few weeks. Philip Stimpson the CEO has said that this product is going to be their "gold mine" - I'm sure it will prove to be ours too.

Emailed MDW CEO today.
Bemoaning the lack of information flow. The SP will continue to sink unless they release some sort of information, any information. Like the Results, which appear to be at least a month overdue. If they fall any further, I'm out and if they rise I'm out. My money has been tied up for far too long on what is beginning to appear a vehicle for the Directors to earn a salary with nil regard for shareholder value :-(

banjomick - 15 Aug 2006 18:46 - 1028 of 1497

Evening pth,
I think the Final Results will be announced no later than end of September but could be anytime before that. They might be tied in with MDT's webcast on the 24th of this month, who knows!

Although frustrating at times i have no real problem with MDW's newsflow to investors and what news that has been announced, over the last 10 months or so,has been very positive.Obviously not positive enough for bringing in the hordes of investors though, well not yet anyway.................

Just my thoughts.

ptholden - 15 Aug 2006 19:13 - 1029 of 1497

Mick, you have the patience of a saint!! I'm afraid beyond a certain point I do not, nor does it appear do other PIs who have been slowly drip feeding sells into the market over a period of months since the last SP rise.

I am sure that MDW will eventually grow and prosper, but at this rate I will be even older than I am to witness the event. Quite frankly there is little point in hanging onto an investment which only moves downwards when the money can be put to work elsewhere. Even if it moves up, it will be sooooo slow, there are a million and one opportunities elsewhere!

pth,
Yes,agree totally that i could have put me money to better use but I have always thought that PSAwatch would be a big SP mover and now along with the Medtronic Urodynamics deal (when MDT announce it) the SP should really move.
Lots of good news to come, over the next few months,so quite happy to hold and if it does go all pear shaped then I've only got meself to blame :-)

Fred1new - 15 Aug 2006 20:53 - 1031 of 1497

One of the problems is that good ideas sometimes take a long time to come to fruition. They often taste good but often the gardener has died of starvation in the meanwhile.
I hold MDW, and think that it is doing the right things, but as my demise is coming closer, I am trying to cease buying companies which don't have a profit and preferably a dividend. Both of the latter should be increasing year by year.

banjomick - 15 Aug 2006 21:39 - 1032 of 1497

Evening Fred,
Well,we should hear by the end of September whether we have chosen the right path down the garden into the rose garden or the compost heap :-)

Minder - 16 Aug 2006 18:49 - 1033 of 1497

ptholden,
As the flatline has broken, I assume from your statement last night you are out. That is a shame, keep a close eye on this, because I feel your comments were a little misguided, when you say this will move up soooo slowly.

ptholden - 16 Aug 2006 19:39 - 1034 of 1497

Minder

No, I am still in (and have been for a long time). But the current SP is quite close to my stop, so I am expecting the worst. Please, don't get the wrong idea of my opinion as to MDW products. I still believe that the company will eventually be successfull in terms of revenue generation. My problem is with the company failure to support the SP to any degree. It is all very well for people to say that MDW cannot give revenue projections, but other companies do the same all the time. The deal with Medtronic cannot have been signed on wing and a prayer. MDW must have some idea of their expectations so that they can tailor their production lines accordingly. Without any degree of expectation from MDW it is impossible to value the company and a realistic SP. Hence my statement that if I am not stopped out, I will sell and invest in a company where I have some idea of what is going on.

Good luck to other holders

Treblewide - 16 Aug 2006 20:50 - 1035 of 1497

you folks aint gonna like this but I am looking to short this on any bounce up......if they show no move to break even in next set of results the market is going to hammer them and i am betting they will not be anywhere near break even, i used to hold loads of them but they seem to be struggling to actually sell their product and with the greatest respect in the world that is all the market cares about...more jam tomorrow aint gonna cut it this time I am afraid....

i know i will get the usual terrible shorter chat and trying to deramp but i think there is a dnager a lot of people on here have fallen in love with this share

ptholden - 16 Aug 2006 20:58 - 1036 of 1497

trebs

I think it is safe to say I haven't fallen in love wiv this share, I hate the fookin company with a passion. However, I wouldn't short it at these levels maybe at 13-14p perhaps. Good luck if you do, contrarian views makes a market.

banjomick - 16 Aug 2006 21:09 - 1037 of 1497

yes, each to there own.Good luck Treble and nice of you to share your action plan :-)

banjomick - 17 Aug 2006 00:27 - 1038 of 1497

I'm I going to have to post all me posts from t'other side, grrrrrrrrrrrr

banjomick - 17 Aug 2006 00:28 - 1039 of 1497

Evening TT2(from t'other side),
I can't see a cash call at all but i could be wrong of course.

All will become clear soon with the Final Results and what extras are included within.

These results will mark a large upward change in the SP for the long term if positive and if so will hopefully be backed up by an MDT 'A'(Re.Urodynamics).

Short term big drop if they don't explain the MDT Urodynamics deal in full or/and don't mention positive progress with PSAwatch.

Just me thoughts.

Interesting bit on the benifits of Portable bladder ultrasound scanners from Canada our Bardscan gets a mention.

Now we have access to an extra 45 countries and after reading this paper i'm sure you can see the great possibility for huge increases in sales.

Page 16

Regulatory Status
Several Portable bladder ultrasound devices are currently licensed for use in Canada. (Appendix 1) The Diagnostic Ultrasound Corporation is the only company licensed to provide sale of portable ultrasound machines with automated bladder volume measurements in Canada. BardScan (34) and Bladder Manager (35) are two other portable ultrasound devices that provide an automated readout of bladder volume.

and from the link:

Current Use

Currently, both nurses and physicians alike use Portable bladder ultrasound in many facilities. Often urologists, gerontologists, and gynecologists are the physician specialties most likely to use Portable bladder ultrasound. Nurses in post-operative units, obstetric-gynecology units, long-term care, home-care, rehabilitative, complex-continuing care, and general practice use Portable bladder ultrasound. Portable bladder ultrasound instruments are often purchased through operating budgets of individual institutions and departments.
During the Improving Continence Care in Complex Continuing Care IC5 project, aimed at improving continence care in Ontario complex continuing care facilities, twelve institutions purchased Portable bladder ultrasound instruments for implementation and evaluation in continence care nursing practice. We now have an extra 45 countries to sell MDW's Portascan in (under the name of Bardscan)and with the general sales of portable ultrasound scanners in general (as above chart shows, just for Canada mind)rising...what more can i say, except that i can't fault MDW for picking their markets to aim for and investors will take note soon!
