Galleon Holdings (GON)

banjomick - 15 Jun 2004 08:48

INTELLIGENT INVESTING WITH BANJO,well sort of! (Ed-hmmmm-lol)

Galleon Holdings plc has three key divisions:Galleon Entertainment for entertainment type IP,Croco Worldwide for product IP,Phoenix for interactive TV services for broadcasters in China/South East Asia which includes Robot Information Technology (Lushy Assets ('Yunbo')) who are a wireless interactive platform service provider in China who will work alongside Phoenix to enable GON to hold on to a greater part of the generated revenue and so increase the profit margin......think that's the plan! :-)

This makes Galleon Holdings a 'One Stop Shop' to develop and complete new and existing IP's.

From todays announcement (part of):

"Following the acquisition of the wireless service provider Yunbo, in China,
Galleon has established its position as a specialist in creating, distributing
and monetising cross platform interactive entertainment content throughout South
East Asia and China. Part of our strategy is to grow our pipeline into the
region through the interactive services that we provide to the broadcasters.
Currently we provide interactive services to 5 broadcasters and we aim for this
to be at least 10 broadcasters by the end of the year.

Strategically we will leverage this network and business model by co-producing
with South East Asian and Chinese broadcasters on mass market interactive
entertainment brands.

In China, Super Soccer Star, our first production with Guangdong sports channel
and Chelsea Football Club will be aired to an estimated audience of
approximately 50 million viewers on Friday 4th April and will run each Friday at
7.30pm for the next 13 weeks.

This show has already attracted attention from other broadcasters in China and
South East Asia presenting the opportunity of establishing the franchise as we
roll the program out across the region.

We have agreed to launch a second Galleon entertainment property with another
leading Chinese broadcaster in 2008. We will announce more details on this once
the broadcast schedule is confirmed.

Partnership with RDF Media

Having validated the pipeline and demonstrated the flexibility of our business
model we have sought access to a library of entertainment content and production
expertise that we can exploit within China and SEA. To this end we are delighted
to announce that Galleon has entered into an agreement to work with RDF Media to
co-produce a select number of shows with leading broadcasters in China
leveraging the best of RDF creative content and Galleon's business model and
expertise in executing these shows in the territory."

Galleon - Going it alone

Stephen Green CEO - Galleon
April 2, 2008

Galleon has chosen not to go down the master toy licensee route with its latest property, Skunk Fu. Here, CEO Stephen Green explains why he made that choice and what benefits the firm is now reaping...
Galleon is a distinctive vertically integrated company that gives us the ability to develop a toy line in house. Our toy company Croco strategically focuses on developing and supplying toys and games to be used as premiums in the global food and drink markets.

I think we are in a market where everyone is looking for something new in the children's entertainment sector, but when the new trend or property is spotted, people are nervous because they dont know what to benchmark it against.

In the case of Skunk Fu we have a brand that already has fantastic TV placement and some huge ratings coming through in the UK and the US. However, like all distinctive brands, it is a bit different in the way it mixes action and comedy with Eastern themes and aesthetics.

This makes toy companies slow to react as they are not sure on the execution. We are perfectly clear as to what the toy line should be, so in order to short circuit the whole process we used Croco to source and develop the Skunk Fu toy line.

In addition, we are used to working to food grade standards on a global basis, so have a very tight control on production, quality assurance, time lines and logistical fulfilment.

As we predicted, once you show how the Skunk Fu brand can come to life as a toy product, the overall potential of the brand become obvious. It isnt necessarily a strategic step for us but more a tactical use of resources. Brand owners and managers in the entertainment sector need to have more control over key assets like TV, websites, publishing initiatives and, in the case of a boys action property, the toy line.

I dont think its unusual in this respect but what is refreshing is that the response we have had from retailers, toy companies and licensees is that it is exactly what they wanted to see from a representative of the brand. This suggests that this may be a model to be employed more and more in the future.

banjomick - 05 Apr 2008 23:53 - 1043 of 1609

Very interesting and refreshing views from Mr Green which I believe shows they have a well thought out and positive direction regarding Skunk Fu.GON also hold the licensing rights so any products via other manufacturers will still bring in revenue.

I think GON have seen the change in the market place regarding traditional toys/merchandising and the profits that can be achieved.

In my opinion the market place has and is changing in quite a dramatic way!

The advent of computers for every child/teenager whether connected to the internet fully/partially or even not at all and along with mobile phones and the communication aspect to friends and all makes the electronic world a much more exciting world for the younger generation!

You just have to see how well the virtual pets went down, was it ten years ago?

The more I read Mr Greens article the more I understand the way GON as a company are heading, this may not be apreciated by the old school as yet and I quite understand that but what we are seeing is a company keeping up with the trends, times and looking to the future too!

Up the Boro! 3-1 ? Well,they should have won-lol
