MEDICAL MARKETING, A Speculative Punt That Might Reap Rich Rewards (MMG)

goldfinger - 01 Sep 2004 15:33

This ones a heck of a specualive investment but it seems that the institutions are willing to stomp up the cash to back it in the long term.

Heres the latest news from Killik stocbrokers on the company..........

MEDICAL MARKETING Joint Venture

We recently highlighted Medical Marketing (MMG) as worthy of attention. The company, in which I have a personal share holding, has this morning announced the formation of a joint venture, Genvax, to develop a novel DNA vaccine platform technology.

Human trials have been underway since 2001 in areas such as Lymphoma and Myeloma but the technology has broad applications in cancer, viral and bacterial infections (hence the term platform). The technology works on boosting the immune system by teaching it to identify hard to recognise cancer proteins as foreign and destroy them. Early results from the 25 patient trial in lymphoma are encouraging and evaluation of the result is expected by March 2005. Successful results should mean big pharmaceutical groups will start to take financial and commercial interests around that time.

This looks to be the first of a series of announcements due from Medical Marketing as it has a range of predominantly cancer trials moving into the clinical stage. (news flow could push the price higher)

The stock has made good progress in recent sessions up to the mid-80p level where the company is valued at just under 40 million. ENDS.

Please DYOR

cheers GF.

An other good one. The boys on the other side can be sensible when they want to.

On the subject of valuations (and I'm probably not telling you much you don't already know) from a financial perspective, a theoretically correct approach would be:
-forecast sales for the drug (if successful) over the life of the patent
-multiply this forecast by the percentage royalty rate: I believe someone on this thread said 20-30%. These are cash flows accruing to the IP holder.
-discount these back to their present value, using the cost of capital for a large pharamcetical company or market sector. This is the value of the drug right now.
-multiply this by the probability of bringing the drug successfully to the market.
This should be the current market value of the drug.
Doing this exercise for Oncosense, using pessimistic assumptions, gave me a value of 3 per share for MMI. If you relax the assumptions you start to get numbers which are difficult to believe.

Incidentally, my impression is that it is a foregone conclusion that Oncosense will go into clinical trials.

Tomorrow is the last day for CGT allowances, so wouldn't be surprised if the shorters had another pop.

Even it was a lot higher when I got in, but I feel like gaining now. Wish more buyers tomorrow.

swseun - 05 Apr 2005 11:39 - 1046 of 2444

how high it could go by this wkend? any prediction? many thanks.

rob308 - 05 Apr 2005 14:12 - 1047 of 2444

swseun,,,,, what we need now is a period of stability...... if we get another upward surge with no real news it will just be shorted back down again. I would like to see 250 again by the end of the week and then some small tick ups during the next few weeks before the coming news..... which we hope will be positive

swseun - 05 Apr 2005 14:50 - 1048 of 2444

many thanks rob308, it seems profit taking still there but not a lot, they may got in @ 200p and selling now for quick pofit. any suggestion? and would be nice if 250p end this week. But if above 3 by end this month, it is great.

rob308 - 05 Apr 2005 15:17 - 1049 of 2444

I think 300 by the end of this month is quite possible. This stock has now come to the attention of the day traders so we will see increased volatility in general. However this should not distract from the incredible potential of this company with its numerous different products at various stages of R&D.
It really is a matter of if you have any spare cash pick a few up as and when you can, there is also the strong possibility of mmg being targeted for a takeover (IMHO) BY ONE OF THE BIG PHARMA'S.

swseun - 05 Apr 2005 17:19 - 1050 of 2444

the steady rise today rather make me happy. :-) I agree that it is worth to buy more. Depends on the open price tomorow morning, comparing to the buy/sell volumn today may give me an idea. Of course I may be worng.

rob308 - 05 Apr 2005 21:05 - 1051 of 2444

sorry sweun but I do not agree with what you say about opening prices and volumes etc.......... not worth thinking about.
This is a share to buy for the long term. Buy it, tuck it away and check on it once a week, top up when you can. That is what I did five years ago and am now reaping the rewards. I am still buying.
Leave opening/closing/volume etc. to the day traders and dreamers. Look at the product and then the price!
cheers..... Rob

mitzy - 05 Apr 2005 21:35 - 1052 of 2444

I agree rob this is one to tuck away for 5 years (I did ) when the price will be 2000p ...by the way there is news due end of the month...
