I'm thinking about the Nexus 7 as well, however my son just bought a 7"
Nook HD. No camera, so no chance of selfies. The screen is fantastic, not a very stylish machine but works very well - it's no longer being made, so a fantastic bargain at £79 for the 8gb model, and you can use SD cards to expand the memory.

Tyketto.
Been to sunnier climes for a week so apologies for the delay in replying, no, I didn't delete anything that came with it, so I couldn't say whether or not it affects the operation.

Thanks Plateman.
Didn't dowload cause of all the extra space required
on HD plus security.

Greystone,
Are you using DHCP or a static IP address on the LAN? If you're using DHCP, it might be worthwhile seeing if there's any improvement by moving to a static IP address.
Here's how to assign a static IP in Win XP

Yesterday I installed Java update 45 , but it's "blocking" me from accessing my Watch List until I accept the "risk" that http://streamer.money.am & http//moneyam.com are "potentially unsafe".
How can I bypass having to agree every time that I try to access Moneyam?
Thanks
Choo Choo

Firstly let me reassure you that there is no risk in opening the MoneyAM streaming applets. The warning comes from java itself and we are working on a short term solution to get it certified, and a longer term project to move away from java completely,
Regards
Ian

Thanks for getting back to me and your re-assurance. It will be good if Java can be dumped!

Does anyone have any ideas how to reduce radiation allergies from computer monitors. Is it just a question of adjusting the monitor's brightness or buying special glasses? Are some monitors worse than others? I know this isn't really a technical question, but I would appreciate any info.

You can get a screen that fits over the front of your monitor that will filter out various things.

Depends on your age DB4. If you're over 40, you may just need ordinary specs.
One of the most common problems people have with prolonged VDU use is dry eye - blink rates drop massively when you're looking at a screen, so the most important thing is to blink your eyes very often, and get into the habit. That should sort most problems out. With LCD / LED screens there really isn't a radiation issue any more.

Re: Windows 8 saga.
Have tried to load "word" into the new machine, but no luck.
It starts up and make encouraging noises, product key etc, and then stops.
I have no idea whats wrong, is my 10+ year old "word" wp program no good for W8?
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm running Office 2007 under Windows 8.1 - have a look here -
Windows 8 compatibility
It does say "All the software that runs on Windows 7 also works fine on Windows 8.".
