Right, back in harness, regarding the IC Roadshow on Friday 4th July at the Hyatt Hotel in Bridge Street. We need to register with IC individually first, go to their website for details.

They are doing 2 on the same day:

1. 9am -1.00pm.
2. 2.30pm - 6.30pm. * Registration half and hour before session start times.

Can I suggest we attend the 2.30 one? and meet in The Prince of Wales at about 1.15pm for a pre-Roadshow drink. Not been to the Wales before but seems to get a good write up here http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/17/17224/Prince_of_Wales/Birmingham

Fred1new - 23 Jun 2008 16:17 - 1040 of 1427

Stan, thanks for the E-mails. I am in the land of the living. Just! I have a few problems, but hope to make the meeting in the afternoon, but not certain. If I do make it I will meet you all there. Have a good day if I am not there to keep an eye on you.

Fred .... nice to see you posting again....

The Commodities Seminar at Aston Uni Conference Centre this evening was very informative. Besides SG and Lyxor then Selftrade and Investors Chronicle (in the form of Simon Thompson) were there. Lots of information on commodity investment routes (but no hard sell) and very interesting personal views on macro-trends in oil, gold, agro-produce.

Not sure if I can make the 4th July. Won't be able to make the Prince of Wales anyway. Had an 'interesting' experience there last year - with hindsight, the manageress saying the menu was limited because the chef was on holiday for the week should have set the alarm bells ringing .....

Stan - 24 Jun 2008 08:40 - 1042 of 1427

Gawd knows how I missed that SG date Chris. That makes 3 things on last night that I wanted to attend...everything comes at once these days.

It sounded good, you will have to give us a report at our next meeting.

Good to here from you Fred, stick in there.

Ian and Amar are you on for the IC thing at 4th July?

survived87 - 24 Jun 2008 11:00 - 1043 of 1427

.... last night was the best seminar so far I've been to in B'ham - let's seeif the IC is as good or better - I should know next week if I can get to the afternoon IC one .....

.... meanwhile back to the 'tracks' : High Speed Chiltern?

Network Rail said it was to commission a study which would look into the feasibility of new lines along the UK's busiest routesv - including the West Coast line and Chiltern route - in what would amount to the largest track build since the 19th century....
....If the proposals are adopted, the new tracks are thought likely to be built with high-speed passenger trains in mind.

Stan - 24 Jun 2008 11:23 - 1044 of 1427

As usual funding will be the problem, to much gone into the car culture over the years relative to Rail, be good to see that change significantly.

Look forward to hearing about that SG seminar.

Ed: They allowed us onto the Wrexham train when coming back from France last week at Wolverhampton even though we had Virgin tickets, very comfortable and quite ride...also pretty full for a latenight mid-week train.

55011 - 24 Jun 2008 13:33 - 1045 of 1427

Oops. Same boat as Stan. I have been travelling for the last week, and due to rail infrastructure weaknesses I was a day late getting back to base. I had clean forgotten about the seminar being on Monday, and had thought it would be later in June. Oh well.

Got quite a few things to sort out/catch up on, never mind the markets, but I'll try and look up the IC do.

Chris, rest assured I wasn't trying to dodge the obligation to buy you those drinks!

survived87 - 24 Jun 2008 22:59 - 1046 of 1427

..... the old Ansells brewary used to be just across the road from where yesterdays seminar was .... nearest bar yesterday was the Sacks of Potatoes ....

.... and, yes, those new rail lines don't have much chance of actually being built - but probably millions will be spent on feasability studies for them .... it's envisaged that the Chiltern one might finish at the two spare terminus platforms at Moor Street (where that steam engine is presently rusting away) ....

.... the IC guy at yesterdays seminar thought markets would go up later in year ..... but FTSE might get down to near 5,000 before then .....

.... and finally, don't eat Durians at same time as consuming alcohol - they seem to interact (internal combustion) .... if you don't believe me then your welcome to try it - but don't say you weren't warned :-) to select a Durian that's just right for eating seems to involve tapping it and listening to responce ..... it's got to be at just the right stage of going rotten to be consumed .....

.

survived87 - 26 Jun 2008 20:35 - 1047 of 1427

... looks like IC guys prediction of FTSE going down to around 5,000 level might be right?

55011 - 26 Jun 2008 22:04 - 1048 of 1427

.... not so long back, the good doctor was rather fond of mentioning Chesnara. Now, all of a sudden, it looks like it needs some attention from the s'scope......

Fred1new - 27 Jun 2008 10:14 - 1049 of 1427

55, have not been following CSN what has accounted for loss. Yield now 11%?

I have doubts about likelyhood of been able to make IC meeting. Sorry!

survived87 - 28 Jun 2008 16:59 - 1050 of 1427

..... *&^$* trains ..... seem to have bad luck with any day trips to London .... last trip prior to yesterday was on Virgin (& came to return from Euston to find it in chaos as no Virgin trains out due to signal / overhead line probs).....
..... so yesterday played safe and went on Chiltern ..... er .... came to return from Marylebone to find no trains running north of Aylesbury and passengers being advised to go to Paddington (for services up to Solihul) and Euston (for Brum and beyond) ...... hope Chiltern resolved problem before the end of Nelson Mandela concert as they were due to lay on extra long trains late evening to get concert goers home.

Oh, Well..... Could have been worse ..... Could have been holding TAN shares yesterday ...... !!!

And on a brighter train note, this weekend it's Tyseley 100:
http://www.vintagetrains.co.uk/tlw100/
There'll be a proper loco there: 86 259 Les Ross

55011 - 29 Jun 2008 11:14 - 1051 of 1427

Now then Chris, you know full well that it is better to travel than to arrive........................ If you had gone via Bristol you could have hitched a ride behind a Deltic!

survived87 - 29 Jun 2008 16:52 - 1052 of 1427

>it is better to travel than to arrive

well, actually getting aboard the scheduled trains in the first place might be 'nice'....

..... at Tyseley today they coupled three main line steam locos together (about 360 tons worth) and ran them up and down the demo track a few times......

.... and got to get in to 86259 and walk thru betwen cabs ....

Stan - 30 Jun 2008 21:47 - 1053 of 1427

Regarding Ian's post about Chesnara, how about this as an example of a share that's following the footsie 100 http://moneyam.com/action/charts/basic?stockCode=CSN probably not the only one either.

survived87 - 03 Jul 2008 09:45 - 1054 of 1427

.....looks like I won't be at tomorrows IC Roadshow ..... did try to register last week(and follow it up this week) ..... but no sensible responce from them ..... so presume:
a) Roadshow is already full, or
b) I'm on some 'blacklist' they've got, or
c) The registration administrators are incompetent....

.... enjoy your Roadshow.....

Stan - 03 Jul 2008 10:12 - 1055 of 1427

Sorry to here that Chris, do you want me to make inquiries when I get there, I could give you a ring on the day if a vacancy was on? can't believe that they are fully booked.

Ed: Anybody else coming or is it just me?

survived87 - 03 Jul 2008 10:29 - 1056 of 1427

thanks ..... but I've lost interest now ..... they did seem just 'useless' to say the least or perhaps they've 'downsized staffing'..... when phoned they couldn't give any explanation as they said they'd have to walk over to another office to check why I wasn't getting a confirmation from them .... e-mail I sent to them this morning got the auto-responce that they'd reply within three days .....

Stan - 03 Jul 2008 10:40 - 1057 of 1427

Fair enough, IC owned by FT who in turn are owned by Pearson Group I think...sounds like typical "couldn't care less" big business.

survived87 - 03 Jul 2008 10:55 - 1058 of 1427

yeep, with staff ensuring they don't deviate from their job descriptions .....
