Oil and gas can be converted to petrochemicals, of which plastics are but one product
And the average shopping basket is packed with plastic. As well as packaging, plastic is a key component in thousands of household items.
It takes one cup of crude oil to make the plastic for one disposable nappy. Other products made from petrochemicals include ball-point pens and sunglasses, crayons and toothbrushes, deodorant and nail polish, tennis shoes and lipstick.
The products we use to build and decorate our homes are also based on oil, among them paints, carpets and many fabrics, such as canvas - a favourite for garden furniture and the summer's most fashionable trainers.
Then there are the plastic carrier bags that shops give away with gay abandon," says Mr Holloway. "If these get more expensive because of the cost of oil, that will be passed on to shoppers."
Green campaigners say that although it is all but impossible to avoid plastics, shoppers can choose products with less packaging or those made from natural materials.
And instead of accepting bags provided by shops - some of which have begun to add a charge - reuse carrier bags or bring a cloth or plastic "bag for life".

Tanzanian plastic industry hit by soaring oil prices
Soaring oil prices coupled with depreciated shillings have hit the plastic industry in Tanzania where
plastic products are likely to sell at 70 percent more than their usual prices.
Plastics are produced using mainly petrochemicals which are derived from crude oil that reached an unprecedented price level of 70 US dollars a barrel on the international market.
Harpreet Duggal, secretary-general of the Plastic Manufactures Association of Tanzania, told local media that prices of high- density polythene,
the industry's main raw material, went up from 980 dollars per ton to 1,140 dollars a ton at the end of last month.
Duggal predicted that the prices of high-density polythene could reach as high as 1,225 dollars per ton by the end of this month.
"Companies are now left with two alternatives of either to improve efficiency or close down," said Duggal.
The plastic industry in Tanzania directly employs 3,000 workers and holds some 10,000 others in indirect jobs.
The depreciation of Tanzania shillings against major currencies has added insult to injury to the plastic industry.
The shillings are now trading at 1,140 per dollar as against 1, 032 shillings for a dollar in January this year.
The Bank of Tanzania had to intervene in the foreign exchange market last week by pumping 2.75 million dollars to rescue and strengthen the shillings from further depreciation and to cushion the upsurge in volatile market demands.

Is EW Robson still in?
Andysmith, your language has moderated as you have weasled out of the share - when anyone had the temerity to question the somewhat pathetic fundamentals, you were most agressive.
The blind herd charged, the blind herd got nervous etc etc.......

Plastic packaging suppliers fear for their ability to supply
By David Vink 16/09/2005
German trade group IK reports shortage of raw materials.
16 September 2005 German plastics packaging trade association IK (Industrieband Kunststoffverpackungen) has warned that its members are facing a major challenge to complete existing orders on time, as materials suppliers start rationing supplies to their customers.
A shortage of raw materials has led to sudden price increases affecting the most important high volume packaging plastics.
Despite the structural deficits in the supply chain, IK still believed that current orders will be fulfilled, but warned that acceptance of new orders will depend on the availability of the plastics needed.
After stable prices in the first half 2005, while the oil price was rising, there were moderate increases in the middle of the year for polyethylene and polypropylene then suddenly acceleration to more than 15% increases at the end of August, IK said.
Meanwhile, shortages started to arise in supplies and further price increases of 25% to 30% have been announced by material suppliers for September and October.

what does a wigan girl use for protection?
a bus shelter.
how do you know if a wigan girl is having an orgasm?
she drops her pie.
why do women have small feet?
so they can get right up close to the kitchen sink.
why do women wear tampons when they go sky-diving?
so they don't whistle.
why do women wear white at weddings?
because all the best domestic appliances come in white
what's yellow and black and full of shit?
an aldi bag.
i got more if you want them!!!!

Amities/ Bos. Slt ! Really glad to read you have booked some profit { at last !! :-) } as i know you were in @ 4.75p with me.....My policy is ALWAYS take what the market offers you. Play the percentages. Always ! Try not to be greedy .You along with many others could have been in and out of this stock several times and be sitting on a kings ransom had you followed the market trend ( which as another poster pointed out is your friend; and the market trend @ 30p was severely downwards .. Sold @ 28p with all the clever money .walked away only to return another day..Perhaps SEO is the best thing since sliced bread : but who cares when 50% of your profit evaporates in a matter of months . lts dogmatic cocky pratts like PM who spoil objective debate. He is a dangerous route to financial oblivion who has lost sight sight of the bigger picture.. . The mind boggles as to his portflio . A loose canon . ..l dont want to bolster the mans ego by even suggesting he works for a PR company but ask yourself ? Would you personally set up a website about a company without some form of percuniary advantage or agenda ,and what is more ,incessamtly bombard a BB with every word EVER written about SEO ,,,,,Well would you ? @+ J,,

Driver Hi,
I have Aminex(AEX) and Northern Petroleum(NOP) and Emerald Energy (EEN)
All three looking good, worth reading the BB's here, as a few of us have posted plenty of useful info.
Also consider alternative energy companies like ITM power, they are the future for energy, so should do very well.
Cheers,
PM

Just received my RHPS issue for October and TB mentions the Carclo and Elwood news and that profit taking is hitting the SP. He is still a BUY with a limit of 25p and a target of 50p
He originally tipped them in March when the price was 14.88p. Previously his predecessor tipped them a few years back and they were dropped around the time of the court case. He knows a good one!

tfc, i originally got in seo at 3.5p well over 2 years ago. looking back the smart thing was to sell at 30p, but , at the time, we were all expecting a steady flow of greenseal orders that would support (maybe even continue pushing) the sp. quite understandable when you consider how successful the trials were hailed. after 5 months of waiting, and watching the sp slowly drop 50%, it is also quite understandable for caution to set in. the sp could continue it's downtrend. also, there could be news about more greenseal orders and there could also be news from across the pond. seo is still very much a rollercoaster of a ride!!!
