Welcome to MoneyAM.
Today sees the launch of MoneyAM, a bright new financial website for the smart investor. Our aim is quite simple: we aim to become the UK's leading web-based supplier of shares related content and data.
Streaming real time share prices, up to the minute portfolios, live city news, email alerts, bulletin boards, company fundamentals plus expert analysis supplied by the same award-winning team of journalists, analysts and researchers that produce Shares Magazine every week. These are just some of the great features that MoneyAM provides free to anyone who registers on the site.
Our premium paid for services are compelling and competitively priced and a must for the serious investor/trader. Unlimited level 1, FTSE indices, alerts, Premium market scan tools and the Traders Room (Bulletin Board) are just some of the extras on offer. Level 2 services will be coming to MoneyAM very soon!!!
We hope you enjoy using the site.
Regards
Mike Boydell
Managing Director

As I say Juzzle to many nasty responses to posts on their for my liking and it's mainly everything except intelligent threads on Company shares. I especially wanted individual share threads like on here.

Stan,
Blogs and bulletin boards are different things. In that respect, Wordpress, or any other blogging software, is most definitely not what you need.
I'm in a bit of a rush right now, but happy to offer other advice, so feel free to ask.

Hilary,
My wife is not talking to me at the moment.
But, she is threatening to start again.

How can I avoid this happening?

Stan - I miss the sense of community we used to have on MoneyAM (at least on the daily traders' thread) back in the early days, but see the creation of this as an exception rather than the rule. I thought Fool had something going for it with its forums because it gamified involvement and good behaviour (up to a point), with quite active moderation (in the early days).
You can act as gatekeeper to an instance of phpBB (or derivative) and keep the disruptive elements out, but doesn't it end up as a private club with little content unless you can find a critical mass of civilised people? Otherwise experiences seem to show that as a business model it doesn't scale and it isn't profitable (it doesn't have to be, but how much of your own time and money would you put into such a site?)
I'm a former software developer, although these days I run IT operations (including servers, system administrators and coders) - I have the skills to create websites and forums (doesn't actually require much) - but echoing the sentiment of one of the comments above - to what end? I have an easier suggestion for you if you want something for a smaller scale community, much easier to manage, arguably much more usable than a bulletin board, definitely more modern (pros and cons to that), better on mobile, very quick to set up and free (up to a point): create a Slack community for MoneyAM refugees (I'll join) - if only as a temporary measure to continue the conversation when the clock runs out here in 28 days:
https://slack.com
For what it's worth it sounds like Shares is going to do something with its forums - so maybe it's not a lost cause? Of course, they'll go through an inevitably rushed software development phase (building up "technical debt"), lose their coders, run the increasingly uneconomic legacy codebase that nobody understands and increasingly can't maintain for a few years, and kill it when they kill Shares Magazine, or kill the forums separately when they are too much trouble. Then we might be back at Slack again anyway, or whatever else you want to spin up that isn't subject to profitability metrics.

I think what people are beginning to appreciate is how much we should thank Mike for keeping MAM going as long as it has.
I'm sure over the last few years, the only value to AJ Bell/Shares was to act as a funnel for the investor community to open new accounts and when TDW shut its doors I was happy to move to AJ Bell so in that respect it worked.
For those seeking free price feeds whether L1 or L2 there are options out there. Some cost more than others and offer different levels of service.
For those seeking a bulletin board community I find this a bit naive. They are only approximately 20 regular posters on Moneyam if that. I appreciate there are another 500 who post up to 3 times a year. AJ Bell/Shares can't justify it continuing presumably because the traffic figures are too low. As one of the regular posters I'm happy to go anywhere which is moderated appropriately. (which means anywhere but ADVFN really although I post regularly there too). It is what it is because we have made it what it is.
I'm sure the Shares BB would be fine and is ready to go. However, I'm not paying £9 a month (introductory fee) just to post to a BB. I think this should be made free or close to free. Perhaps the issue is BB's are dying. Apparently I should be living my life in the twittersphere.

CC, it is £9 for first 3 months ie £3 per month before ramping up to £33 per Quarter.
The 'Shares' BB/Forum has now been removed due to lack of use. I'll more than likely cancel my subscription after the initial 3 months.

Just for info, Mike Boydell is showing as the main contact on the Stock Market Wire site, clearly a supplier of news feed to MAM.

Well it's hardly surprising the BB isn't being used on Shares yet as this one hasn't closed yet.
Whose bloody brainwave was that ?

Not sure if this has been mentioned previous, but when Motley Fool Uk closed their boards down a few of the old regulars set up a site to carry on in similar fashion. You'll find it at: www.lemonfool.co.uk
