Privacy:
Cookie Control off (I want this on medium but cant use MONEYAM unless it's off, it keeps requesting log in for every new page).
Ad blocking off (sometimes on medium but some sites dont work unless its off)

So far I have had 11 intrusions (1 high rated). A lot seem to be coming from the Chester area - is it you Gausie!!! Not sur
e what to make of all these intrusions!?

I've tested these settings at www.grc.com and they are ok. No problems accessing any sites either - perhaps it's the dodgy sites you're accessing :)

No Biffer I can still get my streaming porn, I sorted that out straight away :-)

vasey, a V and W drive?!! How many drives have you got!

What have you done, gone into my computer, clicked on the drive the CDR disc is in and there's no disc? If the disc is there then click on that, should then list your files. Also, which program did you use to make the disc? I'm only any good with Easy CD Creator as that's my prog! However, may be able to help.

The drive probably will only whir when you put the disc in as there are no programs on it. (i.e. no .exe files).

However, I could be wrong....

Anyone explain the difference between incremental and mirror backups?

robber, mirror means that you make an exact copy of what you're trying to back up. Incremental means that you only back up the files that have changed since the last backup. Incremental backups are obviously much smaller and quicker since they don't back everything up. If you were using incremental backups you might therefore take a mirror (or full) backup every week and an incremental backup on all the other days. To restore you would need to load the mirror backup followed by every incremental backup taken after that.

seymour: thanks for responding. I can see the disc and double clicking on that does bring up a list of files which shows exactly what I wanted, but opening one of the documents doesn't happen. Is it possible that somehow it's only transferred a table of contents and not each document as well. If so, how do I rectify that, please.

I use Adaptec Easy CD Creator v3.5c and V is the drive I read CD's on. W seems to be the Rewriter thingy! Apart from those two, just the normal C and A, I think!

Fabulous news about PDX - can't believe I missed it!

I've been trying to get some more info from the pursuit guys this morning.

So - here's the SP:-

Edmonton is Ontario's main heavy industrial area, about an hour's drive from Toronto. The deal thats been done is for Sonico to buy a small number of units from PDX for testing purposes. PDX engineers will support the deployment and test process, and will bill sonico for time and expenses.

The PDX-3 will be tested in some new 'standing tanks'. The theory is that a single solid state PDX3 unit will replace four traditional components: the pump, the macerator, the agitator and the oxygenator. Each of these traditional components costs more than a single PDX3. Each of these components has a shorter servicing interval than the PDX3. Servicing any of these components requires the standing tank to be shut down.

Should the tests prove succesful, the expectation is that all new water processing plant worldwide will be built with PDX3 technology, and a retrofit program will begin worldwide to replace all existing tanks with the PDX3 version. The cost of retrofitting a PDX3 pump and servicing it for 3 years is expected to be less than the cost of servicing existing technologies for two years.

If these tests prove succesful, in four month's time Pursuit could well be forecasting an initial annual royalty in the region of 25m and growing over 5 years to more than $500m.

The shares currently trade under 40p. Numis have a target of 1.50. Looks like they may have to revise that upwards pretty soon.

No.

Also bear in mind that if any of your previous backups (since and including your last full backup) become corrupted then your chances of doing a full restore to a new hard drive are nil. You multiply the chances of failure by an horrendous amount.

Robber, for the reasons that Gausie has dynamically pursued and outlined I prefer to do "differential" backups, which are the third option, if your backup program allows them. These back up everything changed from the last full backup, not the last incremental backup. That means that on a restore you only ever have two tapes to load, and that the deleted files issue only applies to files deleted from the original backup rather than the intermediate ones.
