G550 Dual Head Adapters
I have a Matrox G550 Dual-Head adapter which has a vga and a dvi connector
on the back panel. I am using it with a digital flat panel display and an
old analog monitor. I was previously under the impression that I could
upgrade it to drive two digital displays by the use of a special cable
adapter. However, looking at the Matrox site is confusing me - there
appears to be two G550 boards, a standard and a dual dvi version which
requires the adapter cable for two digital displays.

Is this true? If so how can I tell which version I have? and can the
standard be upgraded to a dual dvi version?

Thanks for any help.

Thinking of buying a newish dell optiplex on ebay, does anyone know much about them, particularly if they have full or half height cards and how expandable they are - I'm thinking of a multi screen card eventually.

(There are two flavours of Optiplex, a small compact one and the larger one which is the one I'm thinking of).

Help please - just bought and connected one of the 18" tft Dells mentioned on another thread. I've done the properties/settings/extend my windows desktop/ok etc but all I get on the 2nd monitor is the wallpaper - I can move the mouse over it but cannot drag anything onto it - what am I missing?
windows xp/radeon dualhead card.

Try stretching the window (re-sizing it) instead. To do that you start by first reducing its size from full size. Then go to the side of the window and look for the little double headed arrow symbol to start the resizing.

Doc - tried that already - to no avail!

edit - Doc after much perseverence - it did work - obviously something I'll have to get used to. Thanks.

Well done skinny. :-)

Doc - having had a quick look at your link - this was probably my problem.

You'll probably want to move windows, applications or programs to the second monitor. However, don't even try to move a fully maximized window! It will refuse to be dragged to the second monitor until you have reduced its size or clicked on the restore button. Once you've done either of those functions, grab the top of the window, with the left-mouse button depressed, and drag it over.

Re DVI Connections. Can i get an adaptor so i can fit it to my existing PC
Or do i have to fit new sockets to my PC??

Spaceman - 24 Nov 2003 22:55 - 1063 of 11003

Iain, re DVI you need a DVI equipped Graphics card, the connector on the back of the card will be about 1.5 inches long and probably white, if it has just a 15 pin probably blue connector then you will have to stay analogue or buy a new graphics card. The converters that exist convert DVI to analogue not the other way round.

Thanks Spaceman.Using Matrox g550

Spaceman - 25 Nov 2003 08:19 - 1065 of 11003

Iain, the G500 is I think available in more than one version, one version does have dual DVI outputs. the connector is much bigger than the older type and is obviose when you have seen both ;-) If the Dell TFT's came with a DVI connector you need to see if that will plug into the back of your G550.

Ive got the older one.
Cheers for your help.

Check out Webroot.com for some free software to do this and also give yourself an initial Free Scan.

Spaceman - 27 Nov 2003 19:01 - 1069 of 11003

zarif, DocProcs suggestion is good for a general clean up but for spyware the best programs are Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware, both of these are free.
