Hi Haystack,

Yes its a WiFi printer, but it will not scan for existing WiFi IDs.

The router ID is used on the Laptop, so don't want to change it as not very IT literate, but will look at if its in the wrong mode, although not sure how to check that.

ExecLine,

Its an Epson XP 312.

Will try the link later, it does look the best of those I have tried so far.

Will post result on here.

Thanks to both for getting back to me.

Regards Greek.

Haystack - 20 Aug 2014 09:45 - 10641 of 11003

According to instructions online, it will scan for connection.

greekman - 20 Aug 2014 09:55 - 10642 of 11003

Hi Haystack,

Problem is this one won't or I am doing something wrong.

Will try again this evening, thanks.

Haystack - 20 Aug 2014 10:09 - 10643 of 11003

Try googling set up details. There are YouTube videos for that series (310)

greekman - 21 Aug 2014 10:04 - 10644 of 11003

Still unable to sort printer out, so decided to wait till a nephew is available next week to see if he has any ideas.
In case wondering why he was not asked first, he has been abroad for quite a while and difficult to contact, but thanks again to both for trying to help.

regards Greek.

Has anyone any suggestions for DVD copying software on windows?

hilary - 21 Aug 2014 11:52 - 10646 of 11003

Skinners,

You might find something (at a very good price) in The Coupon Code Shack.

:o)

Haystack - 21 Aug 2014 11:53 - 10647 of 11003

DVD vice soft is fantastic. It is virtually the only video/so and software you will need. It handles everything including downloading from YouTube. It handles creating files for mobiles, copyingCDs DVDs etc.
There are separate modules but download free studio and that has them all

Thanks - I'll have a look over the weekend.

Next question - I don't speak MAC, but my son is after a 27" IMAC @£1449.

Apple do some refurbed models with better specs including 'fusion drive'.

Stan/Harry/anyone have experience of similar - Refurbished 27-inch iMac 3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7

If you know anyone going to the States, get them to buy you one whilst out there. Only problem is getting it back as hand luggage! I heard of someone who bought a Macbook Air this summer in the US for £575 (UK £999). Doubt it was declared at customs mind you :-)

skinny - 22 Aug 2014 15:18 - 10650 of 11003

I'm not sure a 27" screen will fit in the lockers! :-)

Seymour Clearly - 22 Aug 2014 16:13 - 10651 of 11003

A mere technicality Skinny. :-)

ExecLine - 22 Aug 2014 20:21 - 10652 of 11003

SC

People complain about lugging around a heavy 15" IMAC Pro and have been known to trade down to a 13" instead for that very reason.

Obviously a 27" screen can tolerate two pages of A4 side by side with ease.

Hmmm? I do hope your kid isn't into plagiarising?

Certainly NOT! Came back the reply.

;-)

greekman - 27 Aug 2014 07:59 - 10653 of 11003

ExecLine/Haystack,

Printer problem sorted by son, but thanks anyway for trying to help.

Have either of you got windows 8.1, as that is on my new laptop, problem is that the screen is too sensitive as every time the cursor goes anywhere near the right hand edge of the screen, icons jump out from the side, very annoying.

Is this a common problem.

skinny - 27 Aug 2014 09:11 - 10654 of 11003

Greekman - I have W8.1.

It is much more friendly (to my mind), if you configure it to boot straight to the desktop.

Plenty of Links here

Thanks Skinny, out now but will look later.

klal - 27 Aug 2014 15:48 - 10656 of 11003

Installed a privacy tool called "Ghostery" on Chrome and Opera and opted to block all trackers. Amazed at how much faster browsing has become!

klal - 27 Aug 2014 16:05 - 10658 of 11003

Hmmmmm..that doesn't sound so nice. In any case, I did not opt for the ranking feature. Hopefully I am okay and as long as the pages continue to load as fast as they are now, I'll probably stick with it.

ExecLine - 27 Aug 2014 18:26 - 10659 of 11003

For the moment, and I might well be persuaded otherwise, using Ghostery gives me a much, much faster surfing experience. Indeed, I am totally amazed by the increase in speed on some web sites. I am amazed as to how many tracker thingies some web site are using too.

So...which sort of sucker punter should I choose to be:

1. Slow surfing with no Ghostery. Hmmm? The sites I visit track what I'm doing and where I'm going and get money for it supplying the results to whoever.

2. Fast surfing with Ghostery. Hmmm? Ghostery earn money from inspecting what trackers I shut down and supplying the results to interested parties. Interested parties will then develop more invasive tracking tools which I ultimately will not be able to shut off.

Answer: No. 1 every time. The development of unshutdownable supersonic trackers will come anyway.

Hmmm? Thinks......Must remember to put them back on when I'm shopping through my Quidco.
