Yep. Plan to do that as soon as my daughter lets me at the PC again. Minecraft maniac is what she is!

skinny - 20 Jan 2015 07:06 - 10759 of 11003

I'm getting the error - "your connection is not private" on AOL this morning.

I remember having this error many moons ago when it was down to the date/time being incorrect - not the case this time - any pointers?

The certificate seems to be issued by "entrust certification authority - L1C", who seem legit!

I'm getting the error in IE11, chrome and firefox.

kimoldfield - 20 Jan 2015 08:28 - 10760 of 11003

It could be an out of date SSL certificate that is causing it skinny.

skinny - 20 Jan 2015 08:32 - 10761 of 11003

Kim - despite my Chrome presets pointing to AOL.COM (been like that for years) I was directed to AOL.CO.UK, which looks to have had an out of date cert.

It confused me as the two sites look identical (and it was early!!) and it was occurring in all browsers - anyway all good now.

Computers can be a real pain in the butt at times!

MaxK - 23 Jan 2015 15:44 - 10763 of 11003

Cant get in to my second laptop, type in the password as usual and get this:

The user profile service failed the logon

User profile cannot be loaded

Any ideas?

skinny - 23 Jan 2015 15:50 - 10764 of 11003

Have a watch - User profile service failed the logon User profile cannot be loaded

MaxK - 23 Jan 2015 18:43 - 10765 of 11003

Many thanks skinny, I'll have a go :-(

Balerboy - 23 Jan 2015 20:33 - 10766 of 11003

can you not go in on safe mode as administrator and reset passwords ect from control panel?

Seymour Clearly - 26 Jan 2015 07:30 - 10767 of 11003

My PC is running slower & slower - or the display is. I'm wondering if it could be adchoices software, but I'm struggling to work out how to remove it, as it doesn't appear anywhere on my list of installed programs.

Of course there could be another reason, but this is my first thought - does anyone have any suggestions?

skinny - 26 Jan 2015 07:33 - 10768 of 11003

May be of use? How to Get Rid of Adchoices or Remove AdChoices or How to Remove "Ad Choices Adware"

Seymour Clearly - 26 Jan 2015 08:10 - 10769 of 11003

Thanks Skinny. I've already tried some of those but not all. Very wary about installing any new software, and one of those (Spyhunter4) has poor reviews saying you have to buy the package once you've scanned the PC.

The AdwCleaner seems to have good ratings so I'll try that. Will keep you posted.

Fred1new - 26 Jan 2015 09:03 - 10770 of 11003

Seymore.

May be the obvious.

But if you are referring to Adblock, put cursor over icon, press the right button and the menu suggests removal.

Whether it works or not I don't know.

skinny - 26 Jan 2015 09:07 - 10771 of 11003

Fred - AdChoices is something entirely different.

Seymour Clearly - 26 Jan 2015 09:28 - 10772 of 11003

Skinny's correct - it is AdChoices. Strangely seems to link to Google and I can't find it or anything remotely dubious in my list of programs. I might get my tame PC man to have a look if I get nowhere.

skinny - 26 Jan 2015 09:30 - 10773 of 11003

If you are using CHROME, check the Search engines under settings.

Seymour Clearly - 26 Jan 2015 09:54 - 10774 of 11003

Thanks, that's all OK. Too busy trading & working to sort anything out, will have a go later.

Fred1new - 26 Jan 2015 10:22 - 10775 of 11003

Skinny,

Fair enough, I thought it may be.

HARRYCAT - 03 Feb 2015 17:02 - 10776 of 11003

Has anyone downloaded call blocking software to their phone?
I have Android Nexus 5 and EE cannot block calls via their network so it is up to the individual to block any calls or texts.
Nexus 5 doesn't have pre-installed blocking software, so need to download. EE recommend TrueCaller but reviews are not great.
Would like Google voice, but the app says that it is not available in this country.

hilary - 03 Feb 2015 18:47 - 10777 of 11003

Floss,

Can you not just block specific content in your browser? Just use Dragonfly (or Firefly, or whatever is applicable to your browser) to inspect the HTML element and determine which site is delivering the offending content, and then use wildcards to block the serving domain or IP at its top level.

Easy, innit. And you don't need no fancy ad-blocking software to do it.

:o)
