It could be an out of date SSL certificate that is causing it skinny.

Kim - despite my Chrome presets pointing to AOL.COM (been like that for years) I was directed to AOL.CO.UK, which looks to have had an out of date cert.
It confused me as the two sites look identical (and it was early!!) and it was occurring in all browsers - anyway all good now.

can you not go in on safe mode as administrator and reset passwords ect from control panel?

My PC is running slower & slower - or the display is. I'm wondering if it could be adchoices software, but I'm struggling to work out how to remove it, as it doesn't appear anywhere on my list of installed programs.
Of course there could be another reason, but this is my first thought - does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks Skinny. I've already tried some of those but not all. Very wary about installing any new software, and one of those (Spyhunter4) has poor reviews saying you have to buy the package once you've scanned the PC.
The AdwCleaner seems to have good ratings so I'll try that. Will keep you posted.

Seymore.
May be the obvious.
But if you are referring to Adblock, put cursor over icon, press the right button and the menu suggests removal.
Whether it works or not I don't know.

Fred - AdChoices is something entirely different.

Skinny's correct - it is AdChoices. Strangely seems to link to Google and I can't find it or anything remotely dubious in my list of programs. I might get my tame PC man to have a look if I get nowhere.

If you are using CHROME, check the Search engines under settings.

Thanks, that's all OK. Too busy trading & working to sort anything out, will have a go later.

Skinny,
Fair enough, I thought it may be.

Has anyone downloaded call blocking software to their phone?
I have Android Nexus 5 and EE cannot block calls via their network so it is up to the individual to block any calls or texts.
Nexus 5 doesn't have pre-installed blocking software, so need to download. EE recommend TrueCaller but reviews are not great.
Would like Google voice, but the app says that it is not available in this country.

Floss,
Can you not just block specific content in your browser? Just use Dragonfly (or Firefly, or whatever is applicable to your browser) to inspect the HTML element and determine which site is delivering the offending content, and then use wildcards to block the serving domain or IP at its top level.
Easy, innit. And you don't need no fancy ad-blocking software to do it.
:o)

What are folks opinions on the MS Defender firewall/virus checker is it any good,i do have the paid version of Avast which i think is good but i feel it slows down my laptop and have tried the Defender setup this evening it seems to have increased the speed but was concerned that it may not be reliable as the Avast.

MS defender is all that I've used for the last year or so - no problems (famous last words!)
