Thanks Fred. :-))

DC,

Before you buy compare the specs and price with "Acers".

The family have 4 or 5 of them and all give them a hammering and "touch wood" no problems.

Unless. you already have a virus blocker try Avira system.

There is free version but the others are reasonable priced and come with registry cleaners and speed up program.

I switched from Free version to paid about 8-10 years ago as I had been trouble free and have a 3year contract.

Worth a look.

dreamcatcher - 21 Feb 2015 18:05 - 10788 of 11003

Cheers Fred, very difficult when I am no computer expert. Just need something reliable. Had an Acer in the past from PC World and as you say it was reliable. This one now for instance pressing a 3 will sometimes need pressing again or indeed put up 33, same for several keys. Does need updating.

DC, a Macbook Pro uses iOS operating system, not Windows, so none of the software you've purchased for your old Win 7 machine will work. Apple Macbooks, like all Apple products, are highly priced compared to Windows equivalents, but are lovely - just need a different way of operating.

I use Windows because everything I need business wise is Windows, but with lots of things going online now, the need for installed software is reducing, in which case your only issue is which browser to use - can't really make a mistake there!

Hope this helps.

D/C, A number of the positive things about Apple is that the software and hardware come from the same Company, also very easy to use and did used to be less a target for hackers, email spam etc.

Little or no keyboard skills needed (I'm proof of that). One downside is Apple's cost and updating (but Apple are not the only culprit in that area), but there again I prefer to pay a bit more on initial outlay and have less things that go wrong and saving me both money, time and frustration. Good luck with what ever you decide on.

dreamcatcher - 22 Feb 2015 22:08 - 10791 of 11003

Thanks for the info Seymour Clearly and Stan. The feed backs on these machines are superb . A few have said they take a bit of getting used too, but once they have got hold would not go back too Windows.

Balerboy - 22 Feb 2015 22:22 - 10792 of 11003

Eating whilst on the puter .....bad habit....try putting a hoover over your keyboard and sucking out the crumbs..... nothing wrong with the keyboard if it works... it's the operator.,.

dreamcatcher - 22 Feb 2015 22:28 - 10793 of 11003

Cheeky --- . I have nearly worn through the finger mouse as well , if that's what you call it.

It is getting tired.

Anyone know why the colours in my Stockwatch are wrong e.g. sp falls are showing with a a minus sign but blue in colour?

ExecLine - 24 Feb 2015 09:24 - 10795 of 11003

Any specific stocks? or a few of them? or most of them?

Mine seem OK. I have a Stockwatch with the whole FTSE 100 on it and all those are definitely OK

Sequestor - 24 Feb 2015 09:36 - 10796 of 11003

AIM tiddlers are affected e.g. AMC,KEA

ExecLine - 24 Feb 2015 09:48 - 10797 of 11003

I see what you mean. Although KEA is now minus and green.

AMC is minus and blue though like wot you said.

I guess the algorithm must want a tweak, particularly for these small cap stocks, which have weird trades.

Sequestor - 24 Feb 2015 09:54 - 10798 of 11003

MSMN is another one zero move but showing a rise, but remains green
Something has obviously changed at MAM `s end, never seen this before.

lol

I may patent this system to help the poor sods who trade AIM, showing a plus on a falling dog must be like heaven.

MaxK - 02 Mar 2015 18:20 - 10799 of 11003

I have been notified by AVG that this is on the ol comp, any ideas, should I let avg do the business?

superfish

Balerboy - 02 Mar 2015 19:14 - 10800 of 11003

So did we, but it applies to lenovo comps and their software it's loaded with.,.

MaxK - 02 Mar 2015 20:01 - 10801 of 11003

As it turned out, I let it do it's thing, and there was nowt to remove.

Why the notification at all?

It's an emachines comp, but I took it as being a badge engineered effort...hence the warning.

oh well.

kimoldfield - 03 Mar 2015 01:23 - 10802 of 11003

DC, I am an Apple fan, converted many years ago. I still use a PC for certain things, a Sony Viao laptop (Windows 7) which is so infuriating because of the number of viruses that try to trip it up, it is also very slow and generally pretty crap in comparison with an Apple computer. Apple is incredibly easy to use, my wife swore she would never use one, preferring a PC; it took just 3 days to convert her! I have an old desktop iMac G4 (2002) which I use for photography and printing and music, suits the purpose well but I cannot connect it to my newly installed fibre broadband, I expect it is too old to cope! My MacBook Pro is the most used computer along with an iPad. iPhones and iPods are also well used, so Apple have done very well out of this household! Apple products are not cheap but they are reliable and, as far as I am concerned, by far the best!

Sequestor - 03 Mar 2015 07:58 - 10803 of 11003

I found a couple of files from stinkingfish, but they deleted ok

dreamcatcher - 03 Mar 2015 17:00 - 10804 of 11003

Cheers Kim, A couple of questions - Will it be ok for moneyam ? Also will it link up to the Bt home hub ? Been talking direct to Apple . They will make one to order . So I can say ring in on the Monday and it be here next day. Like the chap said on the phone, dealing direct with us will give you the most up to date components, rather then purchasing from say the likes of pc world .

Stan - 03 Mar 2015 17:04 - 10805 of 11003

Yes to all that D/C, I have been banging on about Apple for years on here so it's good for someone else to have a go as well.
