jules,
Perhaps I shouldn't say this (as I don't use them) but you are no the first with
these kind of problems with cmc.
Re trading long and short. I've tried it with Finspreads.
If you have a trade going on an October future and you want
to hedge it on a retracement then you can bet the daily cash.
The current month future and daily cash on the Dow are not that far apart.
It is a useful strategy to lock in profit (or loss) until the market goes
your way again.
A point about Spreadbet spreads. Although there is no commission and the
spreads may seem reasonable, because the bet quotes are based on the futures
prices, their quotes are 'sqewed' in the direction of the market. Sometimes
by a lot of points. I'm talking about Indeces not stocks.
Being able to watch the futures prices is useful.
Basically when betting the Indeces you are trading the futures.

The Dow tested the 20 day low on the 29th Sept.
This indicates weakness until it breaks a new 20 day high.
Unless it rises above 9500.
Remember....check out the men in black.

Jules99: Snoball: Megabucks et al:
Just read below what i came across while trawling the net.Be careful of deal4free:
Deal4Free just took 800 out of my account and won't answer the phone?!!
Hey everyone
I can't believe what happened earlier on. My account with Deal4free has dropped from 800-odd quid down to 6.81, and I didn't even have a bet open!!!
What is going on here?! Anyone else had this problem?
I phone Deal4free and they said it was a 'software problem' (after having tried about four times and having them hang up on me). Naturally I was worried that they had gone bust and were shifting the money over to Tel Aviv or something...Apparently not...But I still haven't got the money back in my account yet.
They've admitted that the amount I specified should be in there, but the action hasn't been completed yet. Dodgy or what? I didn't go furious with them, but that is highly irregular. I'm surprised nobody else has posted about this today...

Afternoon everybody:
My prediction from the crystal ball is that Dow is going to inch up and than (hopefully) with the jobless figures and farmers figures come in should take a nose dive -around 9230 would be a great weekend

Terod, I learnt EVRYTHING i know by following Zarif ans snowball...trust me 2 wks back never sniffed or payed attention, was researching and thnking of taking the Big risk...I've been lucky so far...
But try doing small potatoes first and that way it's easier on the nerves...
i.e $5 a point or less that way you dont sweat too much...not that u sweat ..lol..
I'm short till 9358 now...phewww!
Good Luck...

thanks jules99 - do you use grte'd stops or just sweat it!
i need a push over the edge.....i'm with e-trade at present and they do CFD's, i've cash in the bank....what was you v.first trade? if you don't mind my asking (that goes to you too, zarif/snowball). on DOW or FTSE? and why did you choose your lng or shrt - ie. was it just an educated guess or did you read something somewhere?
Also, are you glued to screen from open to close (i've 3 little 'darlings' who i ferry around) and although have some free/clear days without them it's often a case of one eye on them, one of the screen - TALK ABOUT STRESSSSSSSSSSS, do i really need to add to it - YES, if it's profitable!
thanks again,
t.

Terod:
Jules is too modest -She is clever and a very good learner,It is all her work and belief in what she does that has paid her dividends. Me,Snoball.Megabuks et al are just instruments it is her the Craftsperson that is in charge.
"As they say You have to break open a few Eggs to make an omelete" and that is the same analogy with doing the first step to trade.
I found that the footsie was too stagnant for me and dow has more volatility ( did you see the leap up by 60-80pts at 13.30gmt -Well that is when iwas glad that i had left the trade open without stoplosses. I usually trail the stop losses as the matket moves.
Play it small and learn with what u are comfortable with.Forget these 50/pts etc.
think of it as a game -and play

Terod:
Watch the market and it does not matter whether you take along or short in the beginning as long as you do a minimum /pt as soon as the trade is going wrong put another in the right way and close the ist one off before it makes ahefty loss etc.
Do paper trading etc: But things happen on the live trade even if its only 1p/pt etc

The worst thing that could get DOW upto 10000 now would eb if Bin laden caught...but then eventually it would come down...
2 massive leap frog days need to be erased sometime next 1/2 weeks...Profit takers and US shorters will be going for the kill...
